View Full Version : The Best of The Wild Heart Tour

I made a little something that I thought you all would like. I listened to all my Wild Heart tour bootlegs and took note when I heard a version of a song that I thought was extra great. After I did all this I narrowed it down more because I had more than one choice of shows for almost all the songs to come up with The Best of The Wild Heart Tour.

I got at least one song from every wild heart show that I have on here, so the sound quality varies from A - B sound. I hope you all enjoy this. It should be extra good for those of you who don't like to collect every single show.

Here are the download links and where each song comes from:

I hope you like it! I also have ( :o )typed up to the best I could what Stevie said before/after every song, including band introductions. Is anyone else besides myself crazy enough to want to read them? If so please let me know and I can post them here as well. The cool thing is that she rarely repeated herself. These also include the length of gdw and edge wails.

I'm listening to my whole CD now all together for the first time. Here are just some reasons why I picked these versions of the songs

Gold Dust Woman - love the tribal scream at the very start of this song. Stevie gives it her all and there are a lot of "hit it"s in here. No wail though, but the rest of the song makes up for that.

Outside the Rain - very lively and stevie says damn

Dreams - "heartbreak" and "some woman they will come and always go!" really make this one. Wish Dreams was still sung like this.

Gold & Braid - good quality and it was hardly done on this tour

I Need to Know - Lively stevie!

Gypsy - really heartwarming gypsy...very robin inspired performance

Sara - lovely

Enchanted - only version of it that I have from this tour, it was only done sometimes in the start of the tour.

Angel - again, only version I have besides US fest. But this is really great. "tired angel" Stevie sings it beautifully.

If Anyone Falls - she goes crazy on this one!

Leather and Lace - lovely, great vocals

Stand Back - the drums at the start of this song are really cool.

Beauty and The Beast - I know it doesn't have the orchestra backing on it, but it's still a great version

How Still My Love - a lot of extra add libs thrown in here!

I Will Run To You - this is the only time she ever did this song live, and Tom is with her.

Stop Draggin - This is the first SDMHA from the tour which means it doesn't have that horrible long guitar solo that got longer as the tour went on.

Edge of Seventeen - What can I say, very powerful and very stevie.

Rhiannon - Lot's of nice add libs. Towards the end it's the best. "did you see her? I think that yes you did!" Also, Stevie might be playing the piano intro this time?

Thank you so much for taking the time to put all of this together.
I'm downloading right now. :)

I love listening for little differences in each song.
Thanks again!

Rhiannon - Lot's of nice add libs. Towards the end it's the best. "did you see her? I think that yes you did!" Also, Stevie might be playing the piano intro this time?Nail, this one isn't from Kansas City. It's from Tempe, Compton Terrace, Sept. 25, 1983. The first part of it is cut out, too--the part where Roy plays the piano & Stevie sings. This MP3 starts with Stevie doing a little twiddle on the electric piano & Benmont on the B3. She did that a bunch of times later in 1983.

Do you have the HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Wizard from either Ames or Tulsa? I'd like to hear that again.

Oh thank you for the correction David. That's really strange. I don't remember how I got the kansas city show - unless someone just stuck a different Rhiannon on the end of the bootleg, because on the whole bootleg I have stevie sings Kansas City, and I know she wouldn't do that in Tempe. So I wonder how much of my bootleg is actually from Kansas City.

I have both of those shows so I think I should have the happy birthday. I'll look for it and post it here if I can find it!

David, would you have made any other picks for this idea? I bet you would chose the BATB from east rutherford, huh? It was so hard to pick some of these.

I'm glad you like them Alexa and rags. I hope to make one for RAL too.

I actually used to make up transcripts for every bootleg I had. They included my own comments too so I would remember how good or bad the performance was. I had a lot of time on my hands

Thanks for posting this. I've always wanted to do something like this but just don't have the time. I'm looking forward to listening since Wild Heart is my favorite tour and I noticed a few of the songs were from shows I don't have.

I've been enjoying "this show" as I make my Christmas cards. I keep thinking, thank God they didn't have in ear monitors back then. Maybe she was so spastic and loud in those days so she could hear herself and the band while she performed. Man I wish she would put this much effort into her vocals these days, but still sounding as good as she does nowadays.

Somehow I believe her.

You did truly pick what sounds like the best of the wild heart tour. Just when I thought I've heard every possible Rhiannon ending here's the "Did you see here and I say Oh Yes I Did" ending. It truly was the Gold Dust Woman of its time  Rhiannons a song that even in the early 80's she never did well solo. But this version you posted is easily her best solo Rhiannon ever. I agree that the tribal scream at the begining of GDW is awseome and does anyone else catch that Stevie goes into her second round of white winged doves before she finishes the first verse about being no more then a baby on the edge of 17 then she finishes it and does more white winged doves. It's great.

Thanks very much for the kind words everyone. I love this tour because Stevie was wild, and had a great relationship with the fans. So I tried to pick the most wild versions of the songs I could find.

I want to do another one of these. I think I'll do the Rock A Little tour next. The Tusk tour is another one that I also know for sure that I'd like to do.

I DL-ed the Dallas "How Still My Love" yesterday... OH, MEMORIES!!!!!!!

This version is just insane!!!!!!!!!! I can even remember the flashing green lights spraying the crowd during, "It's ME talkin' to ya!!!"

And the NYC "Gypsy"... incredible! I SO wish that "Gypsy" from the 1983 tour was on a radio show in perfect quality. That tour was my favourite way that "Gypsy" was performed, live or studio. The piano, the drums, the guitars, the FAST beat (not PLODDING like FM) and Stevie's wonderful wild-hearted voice and ad libs!!!!!!

I was also at the 08/31/1983 concert in Austin where this "If Anyone Falls" is from!

It was my first week of college at Texas A&M University, and I was so excited to see Stevie again. This was the show where Stevie came out when Joe was performing "Life's Been Good". I clearly remember it! Stevie had that crazy FRESH new perm ~ I think she got it actually IN Dallas. She wore black leggings and white sneakers. Her top was a blue & white horizontal-striped knit, kind of sailor-ish. Over her t-shirt, she had a Stevie-esque black smock that was a huge Deep V in the front, so I could see the blue & white striped T.

While Joe (and Marilyn!) were singing, Stevie was sweeping the stage with a broom, dancing around! Joe started singing, "Stevie's insane! Stevie's insane!" as she danced around the stage with her broom and sneakers. Stevie was smiling and laughing the whole time!

Looking back now, in pure speculation, it kinda seems like that fresh bloom of love, where you can't stand to be away from your new boyfriend, not even for a little... :)

I like it because it's early in the tour and Stevie sounds great, the orchestra is there to play on Beauty & the Beast, Enchanted was performed at this show (posted on the first page of this thread), and Stand Back was closest to the album as far as Stevie's vocal goes. :D

Guys, thank you SO MUCH for these wonderful Texas concerts from The Wild Heart!!! It's amazing how much I still remember after almost 27 years... ;)

On the Dallas "Sara", Stevie is so awesome when she shrieks out "ALWAYS been a Storm!!!"

Does Houston exist in good quality like these two?

Yeah, that's hot, I'm listening to it now.

Seems like there's a bunch of ad libs in this one... "Said somethin' 'bout the laceeeeeeeesssss," is hot too.

"And then he said, 'Sara'"

But what does she say in the first verse - "But when you build your house, _______ fabulous"?

Amazing, huh???

Her obvious love for Dallas.... maybe that's why she decided to initially record Rock A Little here!

In 1996, Gordon Perry told me the address of the house Stevie owned in Dallas in 1984-1986. It's on Inwood Lane in Highland Park, the richest, most exclusive community in Dallas. (I live 2 blocks away!!! NOT rich or exclusive!!!)

Beautiful house with lots of trees...

Amazing for sure. I had no idea she lived in Dallas. Her people really have an eye for fabulous, Stevie-like real estate, don't they? It's a little strange. I mean, I don't think she's ever lived anywhere that hasn't screamed Stevie.

Stevie co-owned a night club here in Dallas in that era, The Starck (I think that's the spelling). It had unisex bathrooms and a huge gay clientele. But it was for anyone. And it was a huge cocaine hangout.

Stevie performed there several times. One old Stevie fanzine, Dreams, had photos of a May 1984 concert Stevie did there. Stevie looked very 1983-ish still.

I was invited to go with some friend sto The Starck after the 1986 Dallas show, but I was living in College Station then and wasn't going to get a hotel (poor college student). But, of course, Stevie performed there again at the club that night after her official concert at Reunion Arena!! Just my luck!!!

Her house on Inwood here was not a castle. Almost Frank Lloyd Wright style, but tall. Lots of wood & stone.

This is one of my favorite Wild Heart shows for a couple of reasons. I like it because it's early in the tour and Stevie sounds great, the orchestra is there to play on Beauty & the Beast, Enchanted was performed at this show (posted on the first page of this thread), and Stand Back was closest to the album as far as Stevie's vocal goes. :D

End of the tour (second to last show??).

First part of the show only (part 2 was a SendSpace link that's expired). Sound quality is not the best, but Stevie is O F F T H E C H A I N.

The coke really made for some great shows. The Wild Heart tour is probably my favorite just because she was completly "wild" on that tour. By the time of RAL the drugs were getting the better of her and after that is when reviews started saying "Stand Back? more like stand still!!"
I do kind of miss the wild out of control Stevie.

Folks, here are links to a bunch of Wild Heart shows from saintbernard in an older thread. Some of these may be redundant, but enjoy. Missing, is disk 2 of Ames, IA - not the best sounding show, but really an incredible performance, in my opinion. If anyone has disk 2 (for instance, David) and they would like to upload to Mediafire, we'd be thrilled. Enjoy!

Dallas 83 is all my time favorite solo show of Stevie's. She is crazy!

"Do you get into...GOLD DUST"

"I don't know anybody else who has a ZZ Top keychain. I want the red car now. I'm calling them tomorrow. I want the red car!"

Outside the Rain- "And then Mick says it's just one more link, one more link, Stevie, in the goddamn chain!"

Sara- "But when you build that tangible, weak house. . ."

"I have got to stop writing about my life. It's really ridiculous."

HSML- "I don't get angry, but when I do you better watch out."

Rhiannon dedication- "I would like to dedicate this to Mr. Joe Walsh. Can he play? Yes, he can. (sings) Can he play. . . yes he can. . ." Love. It.

And then Sharon belting out "Would you even try!" towards the end.

Ah, such an entertaining show.

Remember these words... ;)

And her friend put her head down on the table
And she cried, and she said,
“Well… can he play?”
Yes, he can!
She said, "Well, can he play?"
Oh, yes, he can!
My friend said, "Can he play?"
And she said, "Yes, he can!"
Well, can I dance with this man?
Yes, I can!!
Ooh, can he play?
I said, "Yes, he can!"
Can he play?
Well, well, yes, he can!
I know...
Can he play?
And I think, "Yes, he can..."

"In the still of the-- I refuse to carry equipment!"

All as she sings "How Still My Love"... :)

I must say that these "new" Wild Heart shows have invigorated my interest for me to revisit hundreds of CDs of bootleg shows that I've collected over twenty years -not just from Stevie, but also Fleetwood Mac, Lindsey, Christine etc... They have layed dormant for a long while. All of them reside in an antique two-draw file cabinet - my "vault." I had about 6 Wild Heart shows, but now that collection has gotten a big boost with these other posted shows.

Some have mentioned how wild her vocals were back then, citing her Dallas show. That made me want to pull out and listened to her other Dallas show a few years later, during her Rock A Little tour. WOW! What an amazing mess of a show...in a good way that I can only now appreciate. She was on fire! And the crowd was equally so. I like that years later, up to now, Stevie has matured and gained more control of her vocals, and delivers her songs with a measured consistancy in later years. But such was a time when the world was different; she was younger, and approached things with wild abandon.

I really enjoyed listening to this show. Most notable: Right off the bat she screwed up Gold Dust Woman. She went into the second verse by singing the first verse line "Rock on gold dust woman" which resulted in a moment of confusion. Then on the second song, Outside the Rain, the first verse went missing because she sang the last verse first! On Leather and Lace, she got completely lost. She would talk fast --babble in short spurts to the audience, but no one could understand what the hell she was talking about or referring to (I witnessed that at a Rock a Little show I attended). There was a lot of manic vocal improvisions, with words altered, and many ad-libs that often weren't very successful (but still interesting). Also, after performing Stand Back late in the show, Stevie left the stage, and the audience got a five minute Waddy guitar solo, while Stevie was "freshing up" sniff sniff.

It's fascinating look back to such a different time/space.

Yes, yes. Thanks for reminding me. I remember those long guitar solos used to drive me crazy, but not in a good way. His guitar was so frikkin' loud and would screech all the way to kingdom come. He played as if he were at a heavy metal concert.
