There are no lousy Steve Nicks songs. Like any experienced artist, her sound evolves over time and reflects different periods of her life -- some good and some bad.

There are several cringe-worthy tracks, but I'd rather just focus on one main one. "Beauty And The Beast". Good f'ing lord, what an overwrought, overproduced, self-indulgent piece of ****. Every time I start to praise "The Wild Heart" album in a post, I immediately recall this track, and begin to vomit in my mouth.

For those of us who enjoy Stevie's solo career for its own merits and couldn't care less about the airy fairy mysticism and wardrobe, BATB is the bane of our existence. I know for a fact I'm not the only one, and I'm pretty sure there are far more than just a few of us.

I like the song fine. Album version, beautiful. But the Vegas performance with Nosferatu and the head gear and the ugly dress . . . I just could not take that. That seemed like an SNL skit to me. Honestly, when we wondered about the omission from Soundstage and Peter speculated that maybe they had the licensing rights to use it live, but not for the DVD, I felt like a prayer of mine had been answered. Please end world famine and please don't subject me to the way Stevie is doing BATB. One for two. Yeah baby!

WOW!! I am surprised over this whole Beauty & the Beast thing. I never would have guessed that it would be included in this thread. There were other songs I thought might make the list for some people but BATB wasn't one of them

Fire Burning
Unconditional Love

I chose not to include songs like Just Like A Woman and I Still Miss Someone because they are cover songs. Both blow majorly though... and should be listed as some of her biggest mistakes, simply because they have nothing to do with her style.

You're not the only one, my friend. You pretty much summed up my entire revulsion behind that song. Yet it still didn't make my top 5... there are frighteningly worse songs than even BATB. I honestly lump most of The Wild Heart in the same category as BATB though, for the reasons you listed: overwrought, overproduced, and self indulgent. I just plain don't like the album. Even though my list has more Street Angel tracks than any other album, I still think that album is better than The Wild Heart... simply because it's good songs are very strong, compared to most of The Wild Heart, which is just one giant sappy, melodramatic piece of crap.

"Cry Wolf"
"Ooh My Love"

And everything else on TOSOTM.

gasp. i think the title track off WH is one of her best vocals ever. right up there with whenever you call me friend.

i used to hate beauty and the beast. i thought it was self indulgent and terrible, but now i think maybe it's one of the only self-aware songs stevie has ever written. is there any other song where she takes responsibility for, well, anything? i don't give a f*ck about airy fairy mysticism, nor do i think there is much of it in this song. the metaphor is pretty on the nose for stevie, so the airy-fairy criticism doesn't really work.

i just listened to it again and i enjoyed it more than i ever have.

to me, it perfectly expresses the kind of clarity that can only been gained through the lens of fresh loss.

i'm the first person to charge stevie with being overwrought and melodramatic (see: "has anyone ever written anything for you?"), but to me, the sentiment of BATB feels genuine.

Agreed. Although I'm not a fan of anything BUT the vocal of this video, I do think she sings it beautifully here:

I must admit I do like the fat, juicy tone of Stevie's Wild Heart vocal. She just totally negates anything positive in the song when she starts screaming about enchanted children though.

I love The Highwayman and Too Far From Texas! I seem to be in the minority though, especially as regards the latter track. I'm not including I Still Miss Someone and Just Like A Woman either because they're covers but I think my opinion of her Cash cover is widely known...it sucks!

5 worst (no particular order):

Jane
Sable on Blonde
That Made Me Stronger
Silver Girl
When I See You Again

In my opinion ther's no Stevie song that "suck"...bit here's five that I don't like that much:

I Still Miss Someone (I know it's not a Stevie song)
Fire Burning
Listen To The Rain
Love Is Like A River
Welcome to the room...Sara

You see, most of them are from SA and TOSOTM....

I don't hate Every Day, but I'm going to put it in the category that Louie carved out: cover that doesn't fit Stevie. This is not the type of song that Stevie sings and not a song that she should sing. It's Hallmark schmaltz.

Oh, BTW, I Still Miss Someone is not in that "no cover" category. I Still Miss Someone should be making Top 10 lists people!:p

No, to be serious. I wouldn't let any covers through, though I really do like I Still Miss Someone. The only cover exception I would make is Some Become Strangers. I'd replace all the others, but Every Day would be one of the first to go. Head of the line.

Thank you. I'm not sure if I'd call it cringe-worthy, but I have never loved BATB on the record. Live performances, fine, but I still don't understand the hype. Overall, it's actually not a huge favourite of mine. Neither is HAEWAFY.

No one has mentioned When I See You Again? I thought that was a universally-hated FM song (Which I happen to like :o )

The hate for Beauty and the Beast makes me sad - favourite solo song of hers ever.

Anyway -
Silver Girl
Doing the Best I Can (Escape from Berlin)
Whole Lotta Trouble
Street Angel
Bombay Sapphires

When I begin to go through Stevie's solo stuff, there are actually only a couple of her solo albums I can listen to all the way through. A lot of her work is inconsistent. However, the reason I still adore it is when it's good, it's spectacular. When it's bad though...

24 Karat Gold (Does demos count)?
Inspiration
Sable and Blonde

This song I don't hate it, but I am getting tired of hearing it "Landslide". I have heard it too many times. It just gets over played a lot.

That's all I can think of at this moment. I know that I am not a big fan of the albums "The Other Side Of The Mirror", and "Street Angel". But I only like 3 songs on "mirror", and 2 songs on "angel". But the "SA" album, had awsome songs that were well written, but badly produced and put into musical form. I thought the whole album was done very sloppy in my own opinion and her voice just didn't sound right. It wasn't Stevie. It sounded like someone who was very exausted. And the terrible truth is she was. I am just glad she's better than ever now. The music keeps getting better and the voice keeps getting better!:wavey:

I love Beauty And The Beast. It would be in my top five favorites of Stevie's.

Five songs that totally suck........well

When I See You Again (the "what's 'a matter baby" makes me cringe).

The other four "sucky" songs could be anything from Street Angel.

My GOD! I've just found it on the dvd! It's not in the menu of videos on my screen and not in the place it should be in the chronological order, so I thought it was missing! However, it plays after the Sorcerer video if I skip ahead. Weird! There must have been some mistake with this disc. I always thought it was weird that it wasn't there! It is listed on the artwork but I always thought this was a misprint because the video wasn't on the disc.

Hurrah!! Now i realise that I just have a slightly odd version of the dvd, haha.

The truth is, when I first listened to the album, that was the only song I liked. Of course, eventually all the others rose exponentially in my estimation and now TFFT is like my 7th or 8th favorite. But, right off the bat . . . it's the only one that caught me immediately.

I am somewhat reluctant to single out any of Stevie's "questionable" songs -- only for that fact that I've come to embrace them as part of her many quirks; over time I've found something to like in all of her songs -- if you don't take them so seriously. However, I have to admit that The Second Time and When I See You Again test those limits.

Yet I think it's one of the best songs she's ever written. I was living in Phoenix when this song was released and she talks about our favorite mountain (Camelback) and the beautiful section she lived in(Paradise Valley). Therefore the song was more meaningful to me I guess.

This thread has some really surprising songs. The Highwayman, Kick It, and Beauty and the Beast are three of my very favorites! I can kind of get people not liking Kick It, but the other two seem like such quintessential Stevie songs.

Anyway, if we are sticking to songs Stevie wrote or co-wrote...

The Nightmare
Silver Girl
Sister Honey
Whole Lotta Trouble
Gretta/Docklands/Listen to the Rain/Unconditional Love/Love is Like a River/Maybe Love (I know, sorry, but I think of all of those tracks as one song that I just can't listen to).

If we add songs she didn't write...

her cover of Free Fallin' is just awful
and that song by Sheryl Crow from the Boys on the Side soundtrack was also terrible

Sorry Stevie!

In my opinion ther's no Stevie song that "suck"...bit here's five that I don't like that much:

I Still Miss Someone (I know it's not a Stevie song)
Fire Burning
Listen To The Rain
Love Is Like A River
Welcome to the room...Sara

You see, most of them are from SA and TOSOTM....

HANNAAAAAAAAAAA..................WTF
are u serious???
LiLaR is one of her kick ass ROCK songs

SA and TOSOTM are my favorite albums... i don't like ALL the songs on them, but theyre the 2 albums that i can listen to the most amount of songs without fast forwarding through everything

it's so weird how different everyone's taste is
but we all love Stevie *sigh*

good topic, albeit the fact it's causing my heart pain

Dani!!!?? You don't like this album?? You hate the song Rooms On Fire?? It's the bEST video she's ever made(solo).

I have issues with The Other Side of the Mirror, yes. I think its my least favorite of all of her albums. You lose Stevie under suffocating layers of all things 80s.

I agree! I like Sable on Blonde. I can't comment on 24k because I don't even remember what it sounds like, just that Stevie told Lindsey to shut up during one of the recording sessions for it.

I didn't know where that was from. So, I'm glad to get this 24k identification. I just had the clip where she was saying shut up Lindsey and get in the picture. Since I didn't hear his voice, I didn't know if she was really talking to him or what demo it was attached to. I heard the voice saying they didn't want to be in the picture, but it didn't really sound like Lindsey.

There are a few mentionable tracks as everyone has said.. But as was also said they all have their moments but none are worth hating... ALso BATB is self indulgant buut also the circumstance and meaning behind that song. the storys that Stevie tells in her songs such as BATB. :(

I would buy it. I rather enjoyed several tracks on this record, much more so than say, Trouble in Shangri-La. And if you love that album you'll certainly appreciate SA more, hopefully. NEVER listen to the critics. Form your own opinions first. Be a leader not a follower. Unless you're a follower of Stevie Nicks, well then that's alright my friend.

Personally I only like 4 songs from it, but there are many fans that would tell you it's the best album she's ever done. We all have different tastes in music and that is a good thing. Can you name some songs by Stevie that you really love that were never singles?

I personally love TISL. There are a few "eh" tracks but its a very strong album-- if you're okay with overproduced Stevie, which I have grown to accept and often love.

How you can be a SN fan and not like the song Rhiannon is beyond me. You might be the only fan who hates that song. Do you like any of the live versions any better?

Well, I don't know if I can name five; I'll have to think about it a little more, but I definitely can not stand Silver Girl. This song gets skipped every time I come to it.

I can't understand why some people have named Beauty & The Beast as a hated song. I LOVE to hear Stevie sing this song live. It's a real emotional song, JMO.

And I just love Rooms on Fire & Rhiannon. Can't understand why people don't like them. And I downloaded "Free Falling" from iTunes not too long ago, & I love to hear her sing this song, too.

Now I don't like the "studio" version of Dreams for some reason, but I can listen to a live version, like from The Dance. I can't explain it.

TISL is a great album in my opinion. As someone already said, there are a couple of "blah" songs, but it's worth the money.

It's actually not that bad. I know there are people who will disagree with me, but I think that the title song is great. It's actually one of the songs that got me into Stevie's solo stuff. She ruined Bob Dylan's Like A Woman, and there are chimpanzees, and a laundromat, but if you are planning to become a totally obsessed Nicksian, you have to have it even if you hate it.

the rest in no particular order because they've grown on me a little...

I love all these songs too. I'm a bit tired of Outside The Rain though, but only because it was performed live far too many times. But the words to the song are still great to me.
