Hold Me
Good Song

Hold Me is a Top 5 FM song for me. Lush and simply beautiful.

Think About Me always makes me smile.

Now, despite what one would think, Show Me a Smile, doesn't really always make me smile. Isn't that weird?

You Make Loving Fun is constantly played on Melbourne's 'classic hits' radio station. Even though I stated Hold Me was my fave, YMLF puts a smile on my face when I hear it on the radio!

YMLF would probably have to be #1. Followed closely by Hold Me, and Think About Me.

I know, it´s not any hit... but I just love that song very much. The melody, that combination of guitar with keybords and Chris´ voice...

Everytime I hear "You Make Lovin Fun", I smile a lot. And now that I heard "Love Shines" randomly on the radio, I am seriously into that right now. So that song is making my smile. Basically....anything Christine has always made me smile. I love her so. And now that I've heard so many personal stories about Chris, I love her even more. She seems like the coolest woman ever.

Say You Love Me

Definitely. Even when the current line up sings it -- that and there's not another living soul around chorus remains irresistible. Everybody singing it together. It's more infectious than the swine flu.

And fallin', fallin', fallin' just captures the sense of succumbing against your will and reaching the point where you stop trying to fight it and give in. That makes me smile too, even if the message under the music is that the outcome will be tears.

So, I guess Never Make Me Cry doesn't make anyone always smile.

Everywhere :). Don't know why, or maybe because of the Dance version and the "aaaaaahaa"s.

Honey Hi and I'm not really sure why. I guess because it's just so light and happy. Makes me think of one of those happy roadtrip songs... where you sing along in the car and get silly. I just grin ear to ear every time I hear this one.

Sometimes YMLF makes me cry too, but for different reasons. Still, I know what you mean. Sometimes I will look at Farmer's Daughter from one of the Dance boots and I get so wistful and misty. Michele

The White Album version of Say You Love Me makes me smile because the song and the band's performance of it is so good. That song never fails to make me grin with genuine excitement.

Likewise with Love in Store.

I smiled--then outright laughed with glee-- when I first heard Forgiveness on ITM. It was such a sassy, bluesy song with a moving, reflective switch in the middle. I remember thinking "Yes--this is the Christine I've been missing for so long!"

There's a wry sense of humor in many of the ITMT songs. It begins with the words, but is carried through in the music, as you described and in Christine's tone and inflection too. Forgiveness is one of them and Anything is Possible too.

For real?? Based on this and past posts, I guess you and I are just polar opposites all the way around when its comes to musical taste!! lol ... (Yet I think we're around the same age.)

I like his guitar playing. I can't imagine not wanting him to play on anything by anybody.

I know that I heard an interview where Christine said the two are friends and she'd been to parties at Jimmy Page's house.

But I don't mean to distract from the intent of the thread. I was just dreaming again.

Hmm...
All of Christine's songs would probably make me smile (although only some would make me cry as well, of course), but I'm not sure. I'd have to ask someone watching me! However, if any Fleetwood Mac related song comes on the radio, I know I smile (like today, with John Stewart's "Gold"). I can't help but also feel very self conscious, almost as if I'm somehow showing off the Mac's brilliance to everyone in the car. :D
As a completely different, yet related, matter, "Little Lies" is a big nostalgia song for me - it's one of only three songs I remember from my early childhood. Come to think of it, I'll start a thread on that right now! :)

Hi Guys & Gals, a Ledge newbie, hope I don't embarrass myself.

Aged 52 I'm the CEO of a large charity in the UK so hopefully my posts will be measured and well thought through (or perhaps I should behave like a 19 year old and just "let it out?").

Life-long FM fan, I've long wondered about the incredibly talented Christine McVie for many, many years so imagine my surprise when surfing the net I find a CMc forum!

I've read the Chris McVie story, echo the sentiments of previous posts vis-a-vis how well its written and the very interesting content - well done.

As I write, I have "The Dance" Video playing in the background on itunes and unequivocally, in my opinion, Christine's performance of "Songbird" at the end of "The Dance Concert" is unequalled by comparison with her other live performances, though ironically Songbird is not my favourite Christine McVie track(but it's close to my favourite).

Incredibly talented and unquestionably the genius behind much of the Fleetwood Mac success (and I love them all; who could deny the silky sexy voice of Stevie Nicks and the incredibly gifted Lindsay Buckingham who's guitar playing is outstanding, etc. each member having unique gifts as both musicians and performers) Christine remains the conundrum within the group!

1. When I watch "The Dance" album do I perceive a sense of unhappiness in Christine, during various parts of the concert, at playing again with band?

2. Was her performance of Songbird her farewell to the fans (and the band)?

3. Did she know then that this was likely to be her final performance with the greatest Rock Band?

I have all her subsequent music/album which I love and which continues to evidence her musical mastery.

4. Will she ever perform again?

5. Is my ultimate wish that all the members of Fleetwood Mac will again sing together in the future, a lost and forlorn hope?

There you go; forgive my ignorance but appreciate my enthusiasm and love for one of the most talented musicians it has been my privilege to listen to in my short 50+ years.

Kindest regards and my sincere apologies for the length of my inaugural post here on the Ledge, but listening (and trying to understand Christine McVie) makes me want to ask these and so many more questions.

Mark Geraghty

P.S. I assume Christine doesn't ever view this forum?

Mark, you have wonderful taste in singers! Christine will always be the heart and soul of Fleetwood Mac, at least as far as I'm concerned. I watched The Dance last night, and I agree, that she didn't really look happy. I think she knew the end was near, for her time with the band.

I don't think she'll ever perform live, again. She knew when it was time for her own curtain call. Damned pity, too, since she's the only one who can still sing! Hell, she sounds BETTER than ever!
So Fleetwood Mac will never be the same for me. I'll just live in the past, with my DVDs. So in my world, it will always be 1975, 1977, 1979, 1982, 1987, or 1997!
What I'd kill for, is some full length Bob Welch era, concert footage!

Hi Guys & Gals, a Ledge newbie, hope I don't embarrass myself. Welcome to the forum.

1. When I watch "The Dance" album do I perceive a sense of unhappiness in Christine, during various parts of the concert, at playing again with band? She said she enjoyed playing with the others once again, but wasn't keen on the big tour & the traveling required.

2. Was her performance of Songbird her farewell to the fans (and the band)? It was traditional for Chris to sing "Songbird" at the end of all the Fleetwood Mac concerts over the years.

3. Did she know then that this was likely to be her final performance with the greatest Rock Band? What you are watching on "The Dance" was taped in May 1997, at which time the band knew it was more than likely going to tour the United States later that year.

4. Will she ever perform again? She repeatedly says no.

5. Is my ultimate wish that all the members of Fleetwood Mac will again sing together in the future, a lost and forlorn hope?Christine says no (& has had several opportunities to sing with the band already -- once in 2003 & again in 2009). But if you can look into the future using the crystal ball, you might see something else.

P.S. I assume Christine doesn't ever view this forum? If she does, she keeps mighty quiet about it.

I assume Christine doesn't ever read this forum MG; If she does, she keeps mighty quiet about it. - what a thought if she ever did? MG

Yo David & Homer, thanks for your thoughts and insights.

Sadly the reality of David's comments resound in my mind with the words - "but why Christine you make the Mac come alive". I believe Christine now lives here in the UK?

As for that crystal ball David - hope is all I have - come on Christine, at least think about just ONE more time?

Currently listening to "Little Lies" on my iPhone. Is there any where I can read the stories behind some of Christine's critical compositions? I suspect "Little Lies" continues the theme from Rumours and the break up of relationships.

Has Christine ever written an autobiography? I've looked on the net but don't appear to be able to find anything? Are there any books about Christine's career or is the post on this site the current and definitive story behind Christine's life in Music?

Ah well guys, thanks again for your posts. Hope all is well across the pond, -5C here in the UK; snow and freezing temperatures have brought this small island to a shuddering halt hence my indulgence in the Mac.

Take care, stay safe and keep loving the best band ever!

No, to the autobiography. Christine would be the last person on Earth, to kiss and tell. She too classy for that. She shuns the spotlight, anyway.

Yes, she lives in the UK.

Of course I wish she'd come back to FM(and rekindle my interest in the band), but it ain't gonna happen. She's 65(66?), and always wanted to be a homebody. At last count, she was worth 34 million pounds, so what's the motivation for her to rejoin? She's happy(I assume), and enjoying the fruits of her labors. I say, good for her! I wouldn't want her to come back, if her heart weren't in it.

BUT, she COULD record a new album with the band, and just not tour!!!!

Homer, not looking for kiss & tell, just want to know more about her musical influences, values and beliefs. It's Christine McVie the musician/performer that intrigues me!

Agree another album with the Mac would be a compromise - let's hope (fingers crossed).

I've seen these before, of course, but I thought I'd click on your link anyway since it had been a while since I'd been over to that section of the site. Something jumped right out at me. There are articles from the late '60s and one from '71 when Chris had just joined the band; and then there is nothing till '76.

What happened to the "Welch era"? There were no articles, no press, nothing on Christine during that hugely productive and highly volatile five-year period?

I find that hard to believe ... and extremely disappointing. Here was a woman in a rock band, blazing a trail, singing, writing AND playing an instrument (a previously unheard of combination) ... and creating excellent music ... and the rock press didn't even notice!?

Absolutely shocking. To this day Christine just doesn't get the credit for what she accomplished.

Well, I think the Welch era never received the respect it greatly deserved, so there was probably a lack of publicity, all around. And I think that's probably why Bob left the band, too. It just felt like they were spinning their wheels, without really getting anywhere.

In retrospect, the Welch years is my favorite era of FM! Mystery To Me is the best FM album, by leaps and bounds.

"Bob Welch saved Fleetwood Mac" - Mick Fleetwood
Yet the jerk Mick saw to it, that Bob wasn't inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame. The ultimate crime, that ever been committed in FM. :(
