Rhiannon. Especially the live versions. After the cancellation of my favorite tv show ever, DARK SHADOWS, I had always been searching for some type of replacement. The character of Rhiannon that Stevie portrayed as a witch in black flowing robes really gave me the feeling that she could have been a character on that show. But before I saw what Rhiannon looked like, the live versions that I heard without ever seeing Stevie, invoked that mystical feeling within me.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamen. As we've talked about countless times before.

This song teaches me something new on a frequent basis. I feel like its constantly unveiling a new meaning in my life. For me, Rhiannon is a constant reminder of what I want to make of my life and also what I want to leave behind. I'm a very intense person but I have a tendency to hide that because intense people are difficult to deal with. So I guess "Rhiannon" is my daily reminder that I need to be "true to myself" (I hate cliches) but at the same time, prepare for the consequences of being as absolutely intense as I am. It tells me to man up, to write what I need to opposed to what others like the best. It tells me to love wildly and give myself completely-- but not without a fight. "Dreams unwind, love's a state of mind"... love isn't concrete, and it never will be. We create our own happiness. We have the choice to sculpt something beautiful out of ourselves and our relationships-- discouraging to see at first, but that type of power now makes me more motivated to influence people's lives than ever.

God, I love this song.

The first one that comes to mind is Touched By An Angel. I've always had a tough time letting things and people go... and listening to Stevie sing about this philosophically made the biggest impression on me. About how you put all of your emotions into a corner, and go on with life. I think the song really helped me grow up.

Only one??? I'll tell you what, I tell you the first one that really had an enormous affect on me. Gypsy...and like you said about Rhiannon...especially the live versions.

Sara...which helped me through the death of my Grandma back in the 80's and the WWDove live version of Rhiannon.....the day I first experienced Stevie Nicks EVER....and since changed my life forever. I have no idea what my life would have been like if Stevie never existed and she hadn't influenced the most essential parts of my life growing up!

so many songs have influenced me over the years or have come to symbolize different aspects of my life and experiences but one that coincided precisely with what was going on in my personal life at that same moment was "cry wolf" (my original post said incorrectly "two kinds of love"). I had finally got around to playing side 2 of TOSTM and the song just popped like a revelation!!

Isn't it on side one? For some reason, without looking at the CD, I picture it as the third track.

"Silver Springs" (as presented on "The Dance") changed everything in such an undeniable, irrevocable way. No "quotations" are needed on this one.

Vivi, it was way back in the day, it's on side two of the vinyl no, wait, i just checked ur right...now u've completely screwed up my memory...lol...the song is "cry wolf" tho "two kinds of love" is also attached to a memory...

and now I've re-checked the liner notes and Stevie didn't even write "cry wolf"...looks like I've been a lifelong fan of the wrong person!! :]

I would say Sara, only because it got me into FM. None of Stevie's songs changed my life, but the band has and Sara opened that door -- or maybe I should call it a Pandora's box.

"Gypsy" was the song that made me a Fleetwood Mac fan when I was about 3 or 4 years old. A lot of tracks on "Bella Donna" and "The Wild Heart" (especially the title tracks) were "my anthems" growing up. But the whole TISL album was probably the one that kind of made me who I am. I was 11 when it came out, and at the point where I was discovering who I was, and what I wanted out of life. My early-mid teenage years weren't easy either and TISL sort of guided me through it - it deffo changed the way I thought, the way I saw other people and the way I saw myself.

No no, I was 3 or 4 when I first started listening to Fleetwood Mac and Stevie in the early 90's. I'm (almost) 20 now.

Oh wow, just ONE? Ok, I guess I'd have to Sara because it is the reason I was named Sara. But I also think it's one of the most beautiful songs. It's also kept me from hurting myself when I've been in those dark places that we sometimes go. "Sara" is always there when I need it.

I'd have to say that "Gypsy" and "Rhiannon" aren't far behind.

One song...Edge of Seventeen, probably. It was the first Stevie/Mac song that I've ever heard, and it changed everything. I remember the first time I heard it, and I'll never forget it, and how much I cried when I saw the 81 live. That was my first Stevie experience, and even if it's not my favorite song, and I don't listen to it that much, it has changed my life, totally ! I listen to it before EVERY exam, tradition :D
Then, I got my Stevie steps : Rhiannon (I just fell in love with this song, and yeah, "Dreams unwind love's a state of mind" is one of her best lines EVER), Dreams !!!, Silver Springs, Gypsy, Sara ("there's a heartbeat and it never really dies" is also a great line, helped me through a lot of things)...
All those songs changed my life, and my love for Stevie

Gypsy....but, there are many more which would follow close behind.

I love Rhiannon for many reasons. Dani has a great grasp on some of those reasons. In fact, if I have a daughter, I'll be naming her Rhiannon.

I also love The Chain (even though it's not just Stevie).

definitely Rhiannon.
it's one of the only songs i remember playing on the radio when i was little
and i knew all the words. and when we'd get home, i'd make my mom leave the radio on and the car running til the song finished

i've always liked mystical things and witches coz my birthday is near halloween and the imagery i get of rhiannon is how i'd like to be. just blowing around in the wind rocking out :D

I think Rhiannon on the Dance changed me because it was the first song that really made me sit up and take notice of Stevie. She was just like nothing I had ever seen before, her music, her voice, her movements, her clothes and her general mystery. I really fell in love with that one-of-a-kind beauty and I just haven't been the same since.

More recently, and less Stevie-related, I Know I'm Not Wrong is having a big impact on me. It was my favourite song at the Dublin gigs and anytime I think of it, I just get deliriously happy. It's coming in very useful when college gets too stressful for me ;)

LOL! She will learn:nod:
When I told my mom, she loved the idea. In fact, I used Stevie's words and said something like.."Don't you think that Rhiannon is a beautiful name?"...lol.
Of course at the age of 31, I think my mom would be happy with about any name as long as she gets a grandchild!
I can picture a beautiful nursery with intricate lettering painted on the walls.."she rings like a bell through the night."...cool huh?

As cheezy as it sounds, Landslide still gets me through a ton on a regular basis. Anytime things aren't going great with my boyfriend I listen to that song, cry a little bit and clear my head. I love just laying in bed listening to that song.

Not cheesy at all! I have a new appreciation of that song every few years-- something about that time in my life revives it for me. The entire college application process already has me nostalgic, so "Landslide" has appeared on dozens of CDs I have burned since September.

Although Gypsy is my all time favorite it has to be Gold Dust Woman simply because that was the first song I ever heard of Fleetwood Mac on the radio in the car with my mom right around the 4th of July in 1977. I was 6 years old.

In my case, if I have a daughter her middle name will be Rhiannon. Sadly it was a compromise with my Fleetwood Mac-hating wife. :(

Of course like others here alot of songs are important & mean something.....each in there own right. One song that met alot to me at a difficult point in my life was:
Doing The Best That I Can....for various reasons it was a hard time in my life for me....so going to work I'd play that tape from Mirror alot & when this song came on it was very hard to listen too or even try to sing i I would cry alot)....the words mean alot to me even to this day.....when I was very angry the song : Long Way To Go meant alot too.....& so did Desert Angel.....even though I know people don't like DA for some reason.....I guess the words or some of them did with me.....sorry I did more than one song.....but anyway.....Doing The Best....will always matter to me because well....."she thought that she was out there....but noboby saw...I didn't win or lose....I just threw the cards....but I paid a price for it......"
We pay many a price for our choices....even not making a choice at all.....its still a choice......I've threw many a card.....its where they land thats what you deal with....the fall out.....its never easy.....but life goes on.....you make the best of a bad situation......so ....I think with some songs you kinda have to go through something like it or the pain to really understand were the song is coming from....but of course not totally......does this make sense?? Anyway.....it does matter......

Has anyone ever written anything for you <3

The lyrics was like I was singing them to all of my friends: "Have you ever heard me sing? Listen to me now, you know I'd rathe be alone than be without you, don't you know? I want you to remember me"

Because when I first heard Stevie, I was in 8th grade and hadn't been singing in front of my class yet. My music teacher knew I could sing but I was too shy to sing in front of them. So I sent him recorded songs on the email, but if I wanted the highest grades, I had to do it. So I finally did, and I sang Dreams...but it was HAEWAFY that made me do it, because I was thinking about the part "In all your darkest hours, have you ever heard me sing? Listen to me now"...and I got A in music :D So that song made me belive in myself more...

And also that part in That Made Me Stronger "No, you write your songs yourself!", made me think that it's better to write my own songs...:)

Like all her songs has made me more comfortable with myself, you know, most of her songs is like medicin...you hear one line of the song and go like "WOW, Stevie just helped me"...
"If you do not run the race, how will you know? If you do not run it, then you cannot win it, ever!", that's an exemple...that part has made me belive in myself sooo much more than I ever really did :D Thank you Stevie!

Okay "ONE" means I'm skipping "Edge of Seventeen" changing my life by turning me into a Stevie Fan in November 1981.

The BIGGEST change (aside from becoming a Stevie Fan in the first place) happened in August 1988 in Houston, when I went to a record show on a Sunday afternoon. Remember record shows??? We had them every month almost in Texas back then.

I only had Almanac as my only taste of unreleased Stevie (aside from several live bootleg LPs). Well, I FREAKED OUT at the one dealer who had this 3-LP set with the Rhiannon painting on the front and various Stevie photos on the back ~ I mean, I Queened out in a Stevie-gasm!!!! WHAT the HELL were ALL of these titles????

"Castaway"? "Forest of The Black Roses"?? "If You Ever Did Believe"??? What the HELL??!?!?!?!!

The second I got home North of Houston, I put the records on (these were the black vinyl with the better sound; I got the coloured vinyl a little later). OMFG!!!!!!!!!!

Amidst amazing things like the "Leather and Lace" demo, the live '77 "Silver Springs" and the TWO piano demos of "Rhiannon", there was ONE UNCREDITED SONG...

Of course, with my destiny, it was the WORST quality song on all 3 records, on top of not being listed on the sleeve.

However... it was the song that changed my life...

I could NOT get that song out of my head! As amazed as I was by these other wonderful unreleased songs, this song which the bootleggers did not even know the name of was the one that captivated my imagination.

In 1994, I would finally learn the song's name and get better sounding quality versions.

The piano, Stevie's voice, the WEIRD changing tempo!!! The ambiguous lyrics, the stop/start hallmark of Stevie's trademark songs, the fragileness and fierceness in her voice...

The version from Uncirculated Rumours, the one that changed my life, was recorded in my later home town, Dallas. For The Wild Heart...

That song, of course, is "Julia"...

Sara completely changed my life, and what i knew as music. I had never anything so emotional and true. I remember thinking: "what in the world had this woman experienced to write this?!" around that time i also downloaded Fireflies on some downloading site and was blown away even more. But Sara still remains my favorite song ever.

It would have to be "SARA". It led me to Fleetwood Mac.

By that same reasoning, I'd have to say "Seven Wonders". I most likely would've discovered FM sooner or later, but that was one of two FM songs (can't quite remember the other...) that inspired me to get TVBOFM... which changed my life.
As a side, the FM concert of 15 Dec in Brisbane arguably changed my life again, as I now have trouble thinking about anything other than FM during the course of my days (thus explaining the sudden surge of posts sent and general time spent here on The Ledge)! :D And I couldn't be happier! :woohoo:

For me, it was the day my mum handed me a copy of Timespace. She'd bought it me from a second hand store for very little money, came home and told me to play it and that I'd love Stevie.

So, I duly put it on, and started with 'Leather and Lace' and my mind was blown! From there I descovered Fleetwood Mac and all Stevie's other solo work and I've never looked back :D

For me, It has always been "Gypsy"- my sister and i had always been very very close and then one day she just walked out of my life with her new partner and became more and more distant- to this day i haven't spoken to or seen her since last august, because when i call her or write her, she ignores me, she doesn't speak on the phone (she even went to the same Fm concert as i did and didn't bother to say anything) and she's never ever been like that to me... So everytime i hear "I still see your bright eyes... I can't find you..." it just tears me to pieces...

Lightning Strikes Maybe Once Maybe Twice so never ever let anything get past you...

It has to be Rhiannon. I remember trying, and failing, to get to sleep one dark, winter night, so I put on an old best of FM CD on my portable player (it saddens me that that has just aged me) and listened to the first track. It was Rhiannon and I'd never heard it before and I played it over and over and over, and became so wired by it, I wasn't tired anymore, I just wanted to hear it in any way I could. It totally consumed me. Then a few weeks later I saw a doc on T.V with Rosebud footage and I just remember hearing, 'Once in a million years a lady like her rises!' and thinking I absolutely had to hear that.

Gold Dust Woman was always important to me, too. I remember back in school doing an analysis of it for English Lang. and none of my friends had ever heard of it, and since we couldn't find a CD player, I had to sing it to them. I was uber embarrassed and absolutely terrified, but was so proud when I finally played them the record and they said I sang it very well. My English teacher was so impressed with that song that I remember she made me write down the lyrics and she stuck them on her wall in the classroom.
