Does anyone know if Dave Matthews has ever commented on Stevie's version of "Crash Into Me"? She seems to be very proud of it, yet I've never heard that he has ever acknowledged it.

I have to say that I was really surprised that Stevie chose to redo that song. I mean, if Stevie was upset by Lindsey singing "Come', it would seem that 'Crash' would be somewhat offending as well....

Well, Come doesn't just have sex. It's rather insulting. Crash, on the other hand, is romantic. So, if Lindsey wrote a sexually romantic song, I guess she'd sing on it.
It was funny to me in that BBC interview that Lindsey discussed Storms and thought that "every night that goes between" was sexually suggestive. He's reaching there. I don't think she meant "between" that way.

I don't think it's gross, I actually like it. It's sexy and chauvanistic. A man's song. It's just different than Stevie's songs, but not in a bad way. I can understand why she apparently didn't want to sing on it, especially since it's not about her (I think).

I hope she'd be less likely to sing on that one if it were!

Well, if it was about her, that would be all the more reason not to sing it.
I don't think there's anything wrong with the song -- other than the fact that I'm not really into rock music. But I can see why Stevie could love songs about sex and not like that song, because in Come, the speaker is basically telling someone off, putting them down, rather than reveling in their allure.

i seriously love songs like Come that others would find rude...
songs like "something in your mouth" or "crazy bitch" kills me when i hear it and it make me very happy when other ppl admit to liking it too. it just shows that some ppl are into stuff like that (:o).."others" (aka Stevie +) aren't =[

I don't like the song Come either. I think it's gross too. Stevie wouldn't have a problem with a sexual song if it wasn't so direct. Remember in Tunnel of Love she sang an excellent background vocal complete with moans.

Have we ever actually heard from Stevie's lips whether or not she had a problem with "Come?" We all know Stevie was never on stage for Come, but how do we know it wasn't just for a wardrobe change/hair & makeup touch up? After all, she's not on the stage for "Big Love" either, and I doubt she has a problem with that one. As further proof, we know that to this day Stevie takes issue with "Go Your Own Way," but she's always sung back up on that one.
I think Stevie singing "Crash" is good evidence to further support that she doesn't have a problem with overtly sexual songs. After all, it's a more sexual song than I ever thought I'd hear her sing. And there is absolutely NO evidence to support "Come" being about Stevie. I've always wondered if instead it were about Anne Heche, who I believe "Miranda" to be about. On the other hand, Stevie doing "Crash" could be a reaction to "Come." Who knows...
Crash, on the other hand, is romantic.
Actually, Dave Matthews has said the song is written from the "peeping tom's" point of view and that he wrote it instead of being arrested. It's interpreted as romantic, and it is because that's how it makes people feel, but bottom line...it's kind of like Every Breath You Take
...and I think 'Come' is awesome. No offense...

Oh my God, "Tunnel Of Love" is WAY more sexual than "Come" could ever dream to be! Good Lord, look at the verse:
"It's so stimulating between your thighs"
for crying out loud! Stevie doesn't have a problem with sexuality.

Honey, you aren't the only one! Everyone has sex, including "Ms Prudish" herself, Stevie. And EVERYONE is way dirtier in the bedroom than they'll tell people. I like songs about sex, and I'm glad people like Madonna threw that door wide open!
Besides all that, "Come" is a kick ass rock song and I personally love it! :D

Come is hardly disgusting. It could be so much more overtly sexual and dirty than it is. Everyone writes about sex, including Stevie herself. Gate and Garden, anyone? Just because it doesn't explicitly take lines from the Karma Sutra, doesn't mean that it's not there.

Come on. Come doesn't offend most because of the sex. It's because of the bravado and taunting. Think of me sweet darling every time you don't come.
If it had been, "I'll think of you sweet darling every time I don't come," that might be be pleasant and palatable and maybe Stevie would be singing it with the same ribbon-swinging vigor that she sings Second Hand News.
Actually, Dave Matthews has said the song is written from the "peeping tom's" point of view and that he wrote it instead of being arrested. It's interpreted as romantic, and it is because that's how it makes people feel, but bottom line...it's kind of like Every Breath You Take

This reminds me of Fumbling Towards Ecstasy. And I will be the one to hold you down. Kiss you so hard. I'll take your breath away. I love the song, but it's like an ode to rape.

Lindsey has said that Come was about Anne Heche. Not that I believe everything he says, but . . . I think it's a safe bet. The "God" lyric would have to be about her, even if the rest of the song wasn't, just based on what she has said about her psychosis. At any rate, you make a nice point about Stevie never having said she had a problem with Come. She probably did. But we can't assume she did based on Lindsey's report any more than we can assume he says all the stupid stuff she claims he does or, if he said them, that he said them for the reasons she ascribes to him. So, just because he said she didn't like Come and might think it's about her doesn't mean he wasn't just regaling himself with the possibility.

Yes, it is. The album it's from is Fumbling Towards Ecstasy. It's about a letter that one of Sarah's stalkers sent to her, hence the voyeuristic theme throughout the song.

Yes...actually it was sort of her response to her stalker. Taking his power away by turning his own words around on him, and getting a sucessful single out of.
Another song sounds very sexual/romantic, but isn't really...

Great question. No I have never heard any comment about it either, other than from Stevie, and that being that Dave was supposed to sing on it with her, but then could'nt because his wife had a baby. I'd love to hear what he thought of the whole thing.

No doubt. She might have even changed her delivery of it even more, to either blend with or bounce off his vocal. To see a performance of them doing this as a duet would be truly enjoyable.

I guess I put that the wrong way. I think I meant that when Lindsey's songs are about her, she seems to feed off of it. At least, it seems to me that she does. So even if she thought the song was too dirty to sing, she would still enjoy the fact that it was about her. But, "Come" is not, so not only was it a "dirty" song, it wasn't about her, so of course she wouldn't add vocals to it.

So, she'd be more inclined {and like} the fact that Lindsey wrote a dirty song FOR her...so she'd sing on it
i REALLY REALLY like that way of thinking :p

I absolutely agree. Stevie can say anything she wants...but she's not foolin' anybody! That goes for this particular conversation and everything else...especially when it comes to Lindsey and certain aspects of her personal life...most of the time, a lot of what she says is more about self preservation than anything else. Unfortunately for her, we know that.
