What do you guys think stevie enjoys / enjoyed performing in more

Depends on how you define enjoyment. Having a pleasant time and the thrill of autonomy, then I'd say solo. Roller coaster highs, tension filled plunges, heady power and emotion, Fleetwood Mac. Michele

Agreed completely. If I was to guess, I'd say that her solo career is less stressful but her Fleetwood Mac career is more.... exhilarating.

See I just listened to the 1980 version of Angel in Japan with the mac.
Then the 81 version of it solo.
It sounded like she had a lot more fun doing it solo.
Idk. something to talk about

Right. I mean it's the feeling that you get after conquering a challenge. That can be quite fulfilling. The sense of accomplishment exhilarating, as you said. But sometimes the high doesn't always seem worth the struggle it took to get there. Do you enjoy strenuous hiking or a Hawaiian beach more on vacation? Guess, I'd choose both at different times.

Which is why I voted for Fleetwood Mac. I think that there's something about those few magical shows and moments throughout their work together that makes it all worthwhile-- at least to me, and from what we see and hear from the band (usually). I've never seen Stevie look as happy on her solo tour singing ANYTHING than she looks during "Angel" on the Tusk documentary.

Edit: I answered this question wrong! I thought you put, 'which do we prefer'.

Solo for sure! She gets to go up there and do whatever she wants without concern for Lindsey. And I think she really loves being able to do that. Steive is happy to play Angel - if it was from the Tusk doc or the US Fest. She loves that song. She is more talkative and more smiles during solo from what I've seen in person and heard in bootlegs.

Solo for sure...
However, I think the music she made with the band is much better than her solo stuff. Okay not much better, but better. I think she benefitted from not being able to do whatever she wanted... Thats just me though...

Right on. I suspect the answer to this question changes depending on when you ask her as well.
I go back and forth on thinking her solo career solely exists to provide a thoughtless, easy way of decompressing and releasing music in between Mac projects; or whether she has just suffered through the Mac the past 30 years to fuel her solo career. I think she probably just enjoys both equally, for entirely different reasons. She was essentially saying a couple of years ago how bored she was with her solo career, yet lately she's been saying how she doesn't have to take crap from the Mac because she would be happier solo. Sounds like more Gemini-ness from Stevie... she's gotta have both.

Theres a line in the Rolling Stone review of the Wild Heart, that quotes the Nightbird and says that maybe she really does surround herself with too much love. Always thought that was especially true...
And as for ^^^ ita... I think its probably pretty relatable for non rock stars too. Sometimes you wanna hang out with your friends who are party animals, and sometimes you wanna hang out with the ones who are more chill. Vanilla and chocolate :) I didnt just say that...

Me too, but the question is asking what she enjoys doing more. I think some people got confused - this is what I thought the poll was asking first too.

I do think that she enjoyed working solo more, but my poor ears enjoy her with FM alot more. Going solo, she could and probably would fire everyone who told her "bad idea" - with the results you hear.
FM restricts her, she needs that. When I think solo Stevie I think of those goddamnawful 12 minute versions of "Beauty and the beast" a monstrous self serving pompous mess, and that was only the tip of the iceberg.
And listen to ever one of her solo recordings, the musicians try every then-popular trick, made the albums sound outdated basically the second they came out. The sound of "Rock a litte" is terror, even if from songwriting and her singing, the album is very good.
I could go on and an, and I won't become anymore popular here, so let me just say:
1 for FM, 0 for solo

Me too, but the question is asking what she enjoys doing more. I think some people got confused - this is what I thought the poll was asking first too.I think she has enjoyed being in charge of her own albums & concerts a lot more for many years now, whereas she doesn't seem to enjoy making albums or doing shows with Fleetwood Mac (based on what little I've seen). So I voted for solo.
However, at the very beginning of her solo career, I think she still preferred being on the Fleetwood Mac stage. In fact, I think she even mentioned that a couple of times to DJs & interviewers -- about how she loved being in a great band, about how it made her feel like a performer at Woodstock, & all that.

She said something about having to mix it up, because solo could get boring right at the beginning of this Unleashed tour. I don't have the post, but it's on here. Michele

I think she really enjoys being apart of a band.
like she's more comfortable with that group of people behind her.
on a personal level, I thought her solo show was amazing and I'm still buzzing about touching her hand...but the FM show had more electricity in the air, so to speak.

Ahh, true! I mistook the poll. Well, knowing now, I think my choice of FM still sticks. I think she's committed to Fleetwood Mac and it seems to me that her performance with the band was always better.

Well for her I"m sure each has there moments. Part of me wants to say solo over Mac but I choose Mac because without her success in Mac she couldn't have any solo career period. I think early on in her solo career she did enjoy it better but each has its own pressures & giving in to some degree. As far as I recall in most interviews about her solo career she always left it up to the Producers to chose the songs released on her solo LP's she didn't chose them. She still gave up her power to some extend. She always stated that she couldn't chose what songs should go on the LP's for some reason. Too close to them......thats why she liked Mac cause all those choices were pretty much made for her since she was 1/5 of the band.....anyway....now adays I don't see much difference. Mac/solo.....she seems to treat each the same ways....setlists etc. Its not like it was (nor will it ever been again) in the 'old' days of Mac/solo. Those days are gone. I still say Stevie/Mac need to release the 'valuts' to us in some form or another. I see that Bob Seger is releasing some rare stuff 11/24 vol 1 .....I think its awesome & I'll be buying it. It sounds like he's planning on doing more as well since its Vol 1.....if he's not afraid to do it than why, why is Stevie/Mac. The only thing is theres only 10 songs/wish it was at least 15 since cds can fit alot of info.....but to me theres no excuses except excuses for Mac/Nicks. I don't buy it anymore. I think its laziness on there parts. No maybe I don't have the right to feel this way....but I do....& it all is what it is ..............but as a long time fan to me its sad & a disgrace.....but to each his/her own.......I guess Stevie's stuff will come out when Chris gets his hands on it......til than......oh well......no offence just some deep thoughts on a Sunday.......:nod:

Normally I would say Solo...but when we talk Angel live, from Tusk Doc, then yeah....that in itself..encompasses enough happiness to last her awhile I'd say...its a favorite of so many of ours..I'm sure she remembers that being fun as well and worth it! But even with that said..I think I'm going with Solo...She looked so happy and proud for CV and I couldn't believe how somber she looked during this tour even though I enjoyed it to the max!

I'm not meaning to cause an argument, and I hope I don't, but is it really necessary to profess your "disgust" and "betrayal" at Fleetwood Mac with every single post you put forward? Sure, we all have our quips with the band. Many of us feel the same way. But it puts a dampener on some light-hearted threads to always hear that they're 'lazy' and 'not active enough'. Would it be better to hear 15 mediocre albums, or 7 (Buckingham-Nicks incarnation) brilliant ones? There are many, many threads about their downfalls. If you want to expel your disappointment, perhaps you could write in one of those?
---
Anyway, I still think Stevie prefers Fleetwood Mac over her solo career, however much she may claim she likes being on her own. I think Stevie doesn't like too much power as a person, although over the years she's grown more accustomed to it.
It reminds me of an interview in 1987 where she said, 'Fleetwood Mac is something different to Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, Christine McVie or the other members of the band. To find a situation like this again would be like looking for love... and you don't find it.' Or something along those lines. It made me think, as much as she probably enjoys the freedom her solo career brings her, and the break from the intensity, Fleetwood Mac is a one-off situation. It's more famous than her on her own, for a start. Also, the dynamic between the members is so electrifying - how often do you see that kind of chemistry in a band? I think she enjoys it in a masochistic way. Fleetwood Mac also seems to fuel her creativity, and that's a plus.

Sue, you have all rights to share your opinions with everyone here, NO matter if you agree or disagree! I'm glad that there are people out there who don't have rose colored glasses on the whole time but like to tell that they are disappointed about the "laziness" of Stevie and Mac to release new stuff. WE ALL have discussed this in other threads, this is nothing new. WE ALL wants to have NEW STUFF. There are TONS of threads here who are repeating the same stuff over and over again and we all read it over and over again. So YOU ARE WELCOME, Sue, to post your messages like everyone else!

Please don't let anyone run you over and try to silence your opinion. Stick to your guns... they're *YOUR* opinions after all, no one else's. That's something that took me years to figure out about this board... you'll gain so much respect from others if you say how you feel, don't censor yourself, and make no apologies. Nobody has fun when they feel like they're constantly walking around on eggshells, biting their tongue. Fandom is not the same for any two people. Don't fall into the all or nothing mentality... you can dislike the band's work ethic, or the subpar quality of their last album and still be a fan. If others disagrees with you, debate it! That is the purpose after all of having a message board!

Honestly I think Stevie enjoys her solo career more. She seems to work her hardest at it. The main reason I say that is because of her boots. In her solo career, she has never wore her platform reeboks, but she wore them during SYW, and at the beginning of Unleashed she threw around the idea of wearing them again, but I'm not sure if she did. And it may not mean much, but I feel like she does Fleetwood Mac because they got her here and she doesn't want to leave the band, but she doesn't put all of her heart into FM anymore. She will wear her reeboks, she will stand back and let Lindsey rule the stage, but in her solo career she always wears her boots because she knows she can't half ass it. I think she likes her solo career because she has less competition and more freedom and control, and its evident that she puts more heart into it. She is still amazing with FM, but she has more energy solo.

Yes, I think she introduced them solo, but it was before TISL. She wore Reeboks long before that. I mean, not those exact models, but they were Reeboks in the early nineties.

It was the TISL tour...but she wore something similar at one time when she hurt her ankle after falling or something...I think thats when they made their first appearance.
I can't vote because I really don't think she truly prefers either. She gets things from each that she doesn't get with the other. After a while of being with FM, I think she longs for the independence of her solo career. Then after a while solo, she longs to be back in the group because she misses the tension and excitement of being with the guys again. Thats why the FM/solo careers have always been a good balance for her. I remember her saying that on her solo tours she doesn't get as stressed out as she does working with the guys...but the tortured artist within her needs all the drama/tension that goes along with being part of FM to fuel her creativity. Truthfully, I think that for all the negative feelings she has had about being in FM, deep down she really enjoys it...like Lucy (I think) said, in a very masochistic way

I never said she had to not give her opinion; I'd find it just as over-the-top if someone declared in every single post that they loved everything about Fleetwood Mac and thought they were the best band in the world (that sort of blind adoration is annoying.) This topic though is light-hearted, in my opinion. There are a million threads that list everything Fleetwood Mac has ever done wrong and where they are still going astray. It's depressing to read about it in a thread that is entirely unrelated to their faults.
