I don't know if anyone ever talked about this or not but if someone has the answer please tell me.....I love Stevie's demo "Christian". Who is Christian? Is Christian supposed to be Lindsey, or is it from a book or a movie? Does anyone know?
This is the Christian I know...Dr.Christian Troy (Nip/Tuck). I love him! He's sooooo hot!

Never saw him on Nip and Tuck, but I did see him on Charmed and, yeah, that was pretty great.

Hahaha. I love Julian McMahon. I don't think Stevie's Christian is that Christian though. Christian is just another of of those Stevie names like Sara or Juliet, Cecilia, Alice, etc. If I remember correctly it is the only male name she's referenced in a song.

OMG. Lol that really changes the situation.
And to answer your topic title question, I'm Jewish. IDK why such a topic is in the Stevie Nicks section though.

Hands off...he's mine! I knew of him way before Nip/Tuck and Charmed when he was in Aussie soap 'Home and Away' and married to Dannii Minogue!

I've always held the opinion that "Christian" is a "code word" for Lindsey. (Usually I tend to steer clear of feeling that "every little thing Stevie writes is about Lindsey," but in this case my personal feeling is that this is one place where it is.)
Not sure how relevant this is to what I'm saying, but don't forget Stevie and Lindsey first met at a Christian youth group meeting -
"love at first sight????"
By the way, I'm not so sure Stevie meant it in a kind way - - - seems to me there's some sarcasm involved here, in between her lines.

I always assumed "Christian" was Lindsey.
I read Ceremony of the Innocent a while ago which Stevie was quoted as saying was her favorite book (in Rolling Stone '81). One of the main characters in that book was named Christian so perhaps it was something like Rhiannon. She read the name in a book and loved it so she wrote a song with the same name.
Either way, Christian is one of my favorite demos.

Or it might be Thomas Christian, the friend who sent Mick to Sound City in Van Nuys in 1974 to check out the facilities. A real moment of fate there.

I leave the ledge for a few days and a thread about the celebrity love of my life comes up. Good work, ladies.
Moving on, I've always taken Christian to be about Lindsey. "On your terms, we're no longer friends" is Stevie telling us once again how much she resents Ayatollah Lindsey's authority; as far as I can remember, he's the only man she's ever spoken as the dictator in her relationships.
The lines "harder hard luck stories have been told down through the years" and "what about your sad, wild dreams" remind me so much of Lindsey's version of "Try for the Sun." It's that idea that the two of them were striving for something beautiful and impossible together, but it's from Stevie's perspective this time.
Once she gets to "it was only love, wasn't it?", my heart's broken.
I don't think either of them would ever consider trading their success for their love if they could go back now, but everyone loves a "what if."

Interesting concept. I think Lindsey would consider not joining Fleetwood Mac. But that would be because he would assume that BN would have eventually become successful and done so more on his own terms -- and I think that is unlikely.
Plus, even if they had just stayed in BN together and had been successful, I think they still would have broken up. The sudden money, fame and social popularity -- rubbing elbows with luminaries . . . no little couple from Northern California can stay together when new temptations like that are suddenly opened up to it. Although, I could see them breaking apart for 10 years or so and then getting back together, after having experimented and discovered there was nothing better on the outside. Michele

I agree. So let's take BN and FM out of the equation. If Stevie had gone back to school, and they had completely given up the dream, do you think they would still be together? I think from songs like Christian and Try for the Sun, we see that they wonder.

My guess is: no. They were both too selfish and immature to stay together.
Once you take away the possibility of musical success, I don't know if there was anything momentous about their relationship. Stevie once said that if she and Lindsey hadn't been in a band together, he would have gotten over her pretty quickly. That's probably true and she would probably have gotten over him too, without too many backward glances (let alone 1000 songs). It was the constant tension and drama that heightened the emotions and compounded the bond. Once Stevie has to work for a living and Lindsey either, (1) doesn't work, (2) goes on the road as a musician, putting distance between them, or (3) works in an unsatisfying job, I think they would have drifted apart. The strains of raising a family and meeting monthly bills would have soon converted passion into the pedestrian.

This is what I've been thinking for some time...after reading the book a second time. Considering "Christian" seems to be from '80 or '81, it makes sense to me.
