View Full Version : SYW as a Stevie solo album

I really wasn't a fan of a LOT of Lindsey's songs on SYW. I can't stand "Murrow" or "Red Rover" and don't really listen to "Say Goodbye", "Come" or "Steal Your Heart Away". I like "Whats The World Coming To", "Miranda" and "Bleed To Love Her" but I don't LOVE them. So, I made my own Stevie solo album using her tracks from SYW plus a few others. I've possibly posted about it before, but I've just listened to it again and realised how good it is and wanted to see if anyone else felt the same?
Tracks:
My Heart
Illume
Thrown Down (wall of sound mix)
Say You Will
If You Ever Did Believe
Crystal
Smile At You
Running Through The Garden
Silver Girl
Not Make Believe
Everybody Finds Out
Destiny Rules
Goodbye Baby

This is really good, but Silver Girl has to go! I'd also go with the standard mix of Thrown Down but then again I seem to be the only one who doesn't like the wall of sound mix of that song!

I like Silver Girl - it's cute and you have to have the eneviatble slow song somewhere in the 2nd half, so it got included, although "Space Needle" would work in it's place.
I included the WOS version because it deffo sounds more like Stevie solo than it does FM, but either version would work well. I like the WOS version apart from the fact that it missess out the 2nd verse, but I don't think that was written yet (it's my favourite verse of that song)
I think my choice for first single would be "My Heart" - I really love that song. Followed by "If You Ever Did Believe", "Everybody Finds Out" and "Running Through The Garden" :)

Silver Girl should have been deleted and recycled in the trash bin.

As far as Lindsey's songs, I love love love "Steal Your Heart Away", can't imagine anyone not liking that beautiful and heartfelt song of his.
As far as Stevie's songs, I did something similar not long after the SYW CD came out, I just can't get into the CD as a whole.
My track listing:
Thrown Down (Alt. Version) ... a good opener
Everybody Finds Out
Twisted (duet with Lindsey Buckingham)
Illume
Not Make Believe
Say You Will
-
Running Through The Garden
Smile At You
Silver Girl
Sweet Girl
Destiny Rules
Goodbye Baby
Bonus Tracks:
Thrown Down (Original Version)
Say You Will (Remix Cold)

I like that. I'm going to give it a try when I get home. I forgot about "Sweet Girl" but I do love it. Might have to try with that in

What is "My Heart"?

I'll never understand how people can hate Silver Girl but be all over Not Make Believe - "it hurts my self-esteem, it hurts my everything - I am reeling, ooh it hurts my feelings."
I mean...oh em gee. :shocked::eek:

An outtake from TISL, I think.

NMB gives such a peek into her feelings about the Mac. And it sounds so goood. Those tumbling drums.
As for Silver Girl, it's monotonous, I suppose. But I do like the concept (even though it's about Sheryl) and I love the line: "...if she lets you / see her soul"
An outtake from TISL, I think.

Spot on - it's a complete song and is totally finished but was never included on the album. I think it was used on some promo CD somewhere at some point along with the WOS version of "Thrown Down". I'll upload it if you like? It's a fabulous song :)

I think so. I can't really remember. Someone else might be able to tell you more. As far as I am aware, it was a promo CD that included the wall of sound mix of "Thrown Down", "My Heart" and the extended version of "Planets Of The Universe" with the extra verse. I'll upload "My Heart" when I get home from work for you :)

It's not the Silver Girl lyrics that leave me cold. In fact, I don't even have a problem with high tech world.
Yeah, I'm both put off and charmed by the Not Make Believe lyrics. I smirk at the juvenile simplicity, but in the end find it endearing. I think the words exemplify that feeling of being 30, 40, 50 years old and having someone in your life who can strip you down and hurt you to the quick, as if you were just 5 again, no matter what your accomplishments or how tough the barriers you've built over the years.
I think the lyrics capture that, but I think the music is much better than Silver Girl 's too.
Plus, I'm glad to have that side of Stevie in her lyrics. She's always running around saying, "Oooh he was very mean to me. Oh, he was very angry with me," like she's in the playground. David has recently been saying, "I'm not going to be your friend," which is just what I used to do to my little brother (and it worked) and just the kind of thing Stevie always does. Not Make Believe brings that aspect of her to cd, but in a way that aches just a little too much for me to call it childish.
NMB should have been on that album.

LOL, I agree ... I loved "Silver Girl" from the first time I heard it. Love the music, has a mystical charm about it. "Not Make Believe" on the other hand, eeeek, never was a fan.

I blame LB's lackluster production for the dimished nature of the final cut of "Silver Girl." I think the demo heard in the DR doc was superior. I think this song was one of the ones that La Nicks referred to when she said she was not pleased with SYW because she was not pleased with the way the final product compared to the demos and other productions. Conversly, I think "Thrown Down" is an instance where she liked LB's version better as she commented that LB (via that cool guitar intro and line) knew "exactly what to do with that song" or something like that.

Agreed... I love WISYA and WTTRS and it's because it has that FMac production.. Silver Girl is definitely dimished...

I think "My Heart" is fantastic.
I think the vocal is terrible. Right from the start it has that quality that non-Stevie fans always found irritating about her voice pre-TISL days.
That's when I loved her voice.
I love the way she sounds live but most of the studio recordings for TISL annoy me. I'm glad My Heart wasn't on the album, but I might be the only one that feels this way.

And - I just had lunch with a friend at this swanky place and ate lots of it!!!!!

Can anyone upload Not Make Believe or is the special edition Say You Will still commercially available? It doesn't seem to be, and I can't find this track on itunes or anything. I never managed to get this edition of the album (d'oh!) and am desperate to hear this song!
