I'll be there too. Still trying to decide whether to take my camera or not. I took loads of photos from the front row last time but am only ;) in row 6 this time. I think I might concentrate on the show.
Here (http://plee.smugmug.com/Concerts/Fleetwood-Mac-4122003/3348593_ZPYfi#186655688_xWhib) are the photos I took at the MEN last time round. I can't believe it's been almost 6 years!

Back,
lil dissapointed as no silver springs!, also I have taken no pictures:(, the camera I had with me just wasnt adequate to focus from where I was, so I gave up and just enjoyed the show.
Awesome show all in all. I will be looking forward to anyone with pics sharing .. please:D
A few thoughts.
Lindsey really stole the show in Manchester in all honesty, this man is 60 and has SOO much energy it is insane. I always wonder where he keeps all his extra hands needed to play guitar like that, all the usual things blew us away e.g. big love, im so afraid etc. the key word really is ENERGY. He seems to just get more and more.
Stevie was less energetic, not that I was suprised. She wasn't on top form for gypsy unfortunatly but her singing on the whole is SOO much better live than on recent recordings. She told her story about lindsey calling her up and asking to join the band "what kind of band is it ...." and she let out a yell that ive never heard before - gave me and the audience a laugh. Before her costume change she seemed to loose a glove ... and performed in one black glove for a while
Highlights were hearing her beautiful rendition on storms, gold dust woman (which was beyond awesome) landslide, and stand back. Sara could have been better, but I was glad to hear it all the same as a LOVE the song, it just isnt really a good live track in my opinion.
Big suprise was Micks drum solo during world turning I DID NOT EXPECT any of this, didnt know he did drum solos anymore, I mean i've seen the mirage video and his "not that funny" drum solo, but this was news to me. He really worked the crowd, and it was a great crowd btw.
I was hoping for silver springs at the end but it wasn't to be :distress:

Thanks for the review!
You may be right about Stevie's lost glove, and here we were thinking she's been doing that purposely! Cory needs to add that to the prompter before she goes to change: "Go to tent, Remember other glove!" ;)

I was just kidding around. She's been wearing the one glove for awhile and someone saw her teleprompter early in the tour giving her instructions: "Go to tent", "Change shawl", "Leave stage", etc... so, just joking. ;)

Hi All,
Agree with the review. Lindsey blew me away. Stevie was, of course, the gracious lady that she is. Less energetic and her voice wasn't at it's best but you could tell she was having a blast up there. The whole show was fantastic. Stevie cut the 2nd verse out of Sara which was disappointing. Gold Dust Woman and I'm So Afraid were my highlights. I got some very cool comments from people about my Stevie t-shirt which made my night. The guy sitting next to me was also very impressed with my knowledge of the Mac to say I'm only 19 lol. All in all, they clearly are the greatest band EVER!

Well, for all those wondering, MEN Arena is laid out as follows in blocks with about 20 rows in each block.
STAGE
A B C
F E D
G H I
and the the lower, middle and higher tiers are round like a hockey stadium and go around the outside of the stalls. In the layout as it was, MEN arena held 12,000 people for this show. 12,000 people all singing "Don't Stop" at the top of their lungs is an amazing thing to be part of and gives you the most INCREDIBLE feeling.
Judging by your 2nd row, E Block, you were across the aisle and down a bit from me :)

I just got back from Manchester (stupid trains!).. all I can say is WOW. My first Mac concert, and it was amazing! Got a good standing spot right in front of Stevie.. Talked to a couple of Ledgies which was nice :D
Highlights for me were Storms and Gold Dust Woman, Stevie's voice was fab.. Oh Well, GYOW, and Don't Stop were fun :D
Lindsey is incredible live! I played his guitar and got a high five! And got dripped on with Lindsey sweat.. which was nice....!
I thought it was hilarious when after the little story about Stevie being asked to be in the band with Lindsey she pretty much screamed 'YEEEAAAHHH! I can DO it!'.. haha..
I got a few good pictures which I'll post tomorrow :) I'm still on a high!:blob1:

Hey all. just back now from the show.
Ive a load of pics and a few videos which I shall be sharing with you all tomorrow.
All in all a great night cried a little when that band took the stage.
and although Lindsey does not use a plectrum he sure hands them out at the end of the gig. and I got one. Its got a picture of a plectrum with a censor sign over it. and the words "LBTI" on the back.
was right under Stevie all night and got to touch Liddys guitar. Heaven. I also made John Mcvie crack a rare smile.
absolute great night and youll have a load of pics tomorrow i promise.
Not sure about her dropping thee second verse ... I didnt really notice.
it was certainly the 4 minute version of the song, not the 6 ( or 9) minute version:laugh: and included all the bits after "all i ever wanted.." which is cut short on the fade out of the actual record.
But like I said last night - Sara isn't my favourite song live, even though its one of my favourites on record.
Stevie took it up a gear at certain point during Storms, almost giving me heart failure one the line "I did not deal with the road, and I did not deal with you I know" and again further on, cant remember what line it was - but the way she sang it almost had me in tears; were it not for my rugged masculinity:D

I had a great night too, stood under Stevie's microphone too (for the 4th time now). It was great to chat to you LittleCharmer and your lurking friend too (you should find a way to sign up). Hope you didn't get too squashed when that woman behind you tried to reach Stevie towards the end and that your handbag has dried out.
My highlights were Oh Well, So Afraid and GYOW. Got to play Lindsey's guitar twice, got a high five at the end from him too. Oh Well just rocked.
I was a little disappointed at the energy of the crowd though. There was a little pocket of us under Stevie's microphone who were rocking out and a few under Lindsey's but apart from that it was pretty tame.
Comedy moment of the night was when someone asked Lindsey for a tissue which he'd used to wipe sweat off his brow. He laughed, made a yuck expression, and gave it to her.
I took 99 photos of which 51 came out half way decent. They aren't as good as the ones I took on the previous tour and very few of Lindsey came out right. You can see them here (http://plee.smugmug.com/Concerts/FM271009).
At the end stevie took sombodies hand (around the center) and she pulled away it looked like she was saying somthing, like maybe the fan got a bit over excited. anybody know what it was about, I was too far back to hear.

Business and pleasure in any order
Fleetwood Mac
by Mark on October 28, 2009
Last night I went to the MEN arena in Manchester to watch rock legends Fleetwood Mac. I’d never been into central Manchester before but the drive in and parking was pretty stress free. As ever, I’d arrived early so wandered around The Printworks looking for something to eat. I tried Wagamama’s first, then Tampopo and finally Pizza Express but there were ques for the tables at all of them so after trying and failing to get a beer due to there being no staff on in the bar I picked I strolled back to the Arena. The ticket was sent to me by email so I’d just printed it and carried it to the door where it was very quickly scanned and I was in the arena before I knew I’d arrived. After quick beer and a hotdog I made my way to my seat and waited for the show to begin.
The first couple of songs were a little rough at the edges, but the magic soon started to work and before long I was well into the music. Stevie Nicks was clearly showing signs of her age in her walk, being a little stiff around the hips but she was as “glam” as ever. Whatever posessed her to wear Doc Martin boots with her first two outfits I’ll never know, but once she swapped them out for a pair of strappy high heels she was a woman transformed. (Women take note: dressing like a bloke is no where near as cool as dressing like a woman!). I’d also say Stevie was a little reserved in her singing, rarely making attempts for the high notes that she was always so good at, but she was still working her magic on the crowd.
Mick Fleetwood was dressed, well a little wierd in knee high trousers, long socks and a pair of red slippers. Yes, well, less said the better! The star of the show, in addition to Stevie Nicks of course was Lindsey Buckingham on guitar and vocals. His guitar technique was bad with a collapsed right hand but he was making it sing like a pro, and it made me want to pick up one of my old guitars and have a go again.
Somehow, I found myself in a thai karoke bar after the show singing along to old classics. Eventually I collapsed back into bed at just after 2am. Tonight will be a quiet one.

I wonder if that's one of the shirts he wore in the picture with Kristen. He only has, like, 2 shirts. What I like about the red is that although Stevie is wearing a deeper color, it seems like he wore it to match her and Mick. So, I liked the group theme. I guess the idea was formed when Stevie was opening in that dress. John obviously excluded himself from the rose-toned coordination.

That question's been on my mind ever since the Dublin gigs... I'm hoping in Lindsey's case it's "wow, who's that gorgeous Irish girl in the front, and how can I get her number?" :p

Fleetwood Mac Manchester Arena
Dave Simpson The Guardian, Thursday 29 October 2009
"This band have a complex emotional history," begins guitarist Lindsey Buckingham, hinting at Fleetwood Mac's rollercoaster of bedhopping, cocaine, mental illness and religious cults, which is almost as famous as their music. While the antics (and some members) have been lost to the years, the music, particularly 1977's mega-selling Rumours, still defines AOR cool and inspires current acts, not least Bat for Lashes.
Without a new album to promote, the Mac are choosing songs for "fun": nothing from 2003's underwhelming Say You Will, but rather a fantasy setlist from their ravishing back catalogue. After a tumultuous The Chain, a hallucinatory Dreams and a wistful Gypsy, the band charge into Rhiannon, Sara and a drumming-led Tusk. It feels like seeing off an army only to face bigger cannons coming over the hill.
The songs don't sound exactly as they did. With leather-jacketed Buckingham – the band's Clash fan – seemingly on a mission to prove the band remain relevant, the AOR sheen has been stripped away to reveal the emotional turmoil and even anger that inspired them. The delicate counterpoint is the ethereal Stevie Nicks, whose dulcet tones cast a spell. The hug between her and lost-love Buckingham might be scripted, but it nonetheless seems as poignant as Landslide's lyrics about "getting older".
In two and a half hours, there isn't a dull moment. Highlights are a dark Gold Dust Woman and a Buckingham guitar rampage, delivered to a standing ovation. Fans of the Mac's 1960s blues-rock incarnation are sent into raptures when the band pile into Oh Well, so electrifying it could power a small town. As an exultant Mick Fleetwood puts it: "The Mac are back!"

Firstly, hi to all here. I have been reading this board for ages but haven't got round to posting much. However, this concert has jolted me from my lazyness and made me post. This was my second time seeing the Mac live , and they managed to blow me away even more than the first time. That might have had something to do with my position - managed to be leaning on the stage directly in front of Stevie's mike for the whole night (I think, from reading this thread that I was probably standing next to Phil and near Little Charmer - I was the bloke in the green T shirt with the "Best night of My Life since the birth of my son" expression!. Hello to you guys - it was good to share the evening with you.)
Highlights for me - there were so many, but Gold Dust Woman was unbelievably powerful, Stand Back rocked with energy, Lindsey on Big Love - how his strings don't break i don't know, Rhiannon, landslide of course - tears in my eyes !, oh heck, it was all unimaginably good!
Other things that made my night - playing Lindsey's guitar, shaking hands at the end with both Lindsey and Stevie (thought I was going to faint!) and best of all, a smile and gesture of acknowledgement from Stevie when she came to the front of the stage at the end and I mouthed "Thank You" to her. Couldn't have hoped for a better night.
Best thing is I'm going to the Birmingham show next Tuesday , with my wife this time - can't wait. Anyone else going to this show aswell?

Fleetwood Mac @ MEN Arena 27/10/09
It's a funny thing about Fleetwood Mac, when I hear them I'm instantly transported to a fantasy 1970s that most likely never even existed and it's all what I imagine it was like based on stuff I've seen on TV. I'm pretty sure I'm to young to actually remember Rumours when it was originally released, so just why it has such an effect is beyond me. But I like it.
I'm not a huge Fleetwood Mac fan, and I'd never seen them live before but when I heard they were touring again I decided to get myself some tickets and check it out. The current line up is the same as the Rumours line up, but sadly minus Christine McVie and they're not promoting any new material so I knew it would basically be a greatest hits package, which suited me.
They're ****ing ancient. I swear I thought I saw Mick Fleetwood piped up to an oxygen bottle, and despite Lindsey Buckingham being full of energy he seemed to be getting a bit of gyp from a bad back. Stevie Nicks isn't exactly the siren she used to be, at one point some tight twat did shout out "Stevie ya fat git", which I thought was a bit cruel.
But they do still have it. Early in the set Nicks did a rather poor rendition of Rhiannon, and it seemed like she really wasn't going to hack it. In fact at the start of the show Nicks seemed quite absent, possibly pissed(?), and not really in the swing of things. Fortunately that was to change, maybe she just needed to warm up, or get a few shots of whiskey down her neck to lubricate the old voice box, because when she performed Sara, Landslide and Gypsy she was superb. Her distinctive vocals were spot on, she managed to carry them off brilliantly.
When you listen to Fleetwood Mac you really get a sense of the individual personalities within the group, some of my favourites are the songs Buckingham wrote. Last night they performed Second Hand News and Never Going Back Again, two of my favourites. Probably worth going just for them.
They let themselves down a little towards the end, Fleetwood did a rather poor drum solo during which he kept shouting out nonsense which I couldn't quite make out. The bloke's a nutter, and I just kept thinking of him presenting the Brit Awards with Sam Fox, and the chances he tried shagging all The Corrs when he was swanning round with them a few years back. Don't Stop was a bit of a let down too, for some reason it sounded like Chas and Dave were playing it. They really should've convinced Chritine McVie to rejoin.
Sorry the pictures aren't better, I really must try and figure out how to work that ****ing camera.

They're ****ing ancient.
Now, now. No need to say it with such extremeness.
I swear I thought I saw Mick Fleetwood piped up to an oxygen bottle, and despite Lindsey Buckingham being full of energy he seemed to be getting a bit of gyp from a bad back.
I hope this is all an exaggeration. I think the oxygen isn't news but Lindsey's now got a bad back? He better not neglect it and get some regular therapy in. I didn't intend on suddenly not seeing him rock hard on stage anytime soon, selfish as that sounds.
Stevie Nicks isn't exactly the siren she used to be, at one point some tight twat did shout out "Stevie ya fat git"...
Now that's just WRONG. Come on people. Fat jokes are old, lame, and the product of narrow-minded imbeciles. Let's represent FM with some maturity here people.
But they do still have it.
I know that's right. Though this reviewer needs to make up his mind already. He's bitching about ridiculous things these people can't help instead of basking in the greatness that is seeing a legendary rock band that still has IT, or most of the members anyway (especially one in particular).

I've just uploaded a short video I shot during Landslide. The quality isn't great because it was shot with my iPhone. The sound is distorted because I was right on top of a monitor speaker. I'd have shot a longer video but didn't want to get a tap on my shoulder. Anyway, here's the video:

Well it was my first FM gig (curse my youth!). Absolutely loved it. My only gripe was that Silver Springs was not played. I think my heart would have grown legs and walked right out of my chest if they had (perhaps a good thing they didn't then). Always been a huge Stevie fan but fell in love with her more seeing her in the flesh.
Fav songs of the evening... The Chain, Gypsy, Storms (nearly died when she announced THIS one), Stand Back (ditto - me and my friend had been joking about her doing this one before the gig, we hadn't seen the previous setlists), Go Your Own Way, Big Love and World Turning.
Oh, I had another gripe. My block was boring as hell. Me, my friend, and about 4 other people actually seemed to be enjoying it. Note to self: splash out next time and get to the front rows!

Sounds Write - Fleetwood Mac
2:25pm Wednesday 11th November 2009
By Anthony Loman »
WHEN Fleetwood Mac guitarist, singer and principal songwriter Lindsey Buckingham told the audience at Manchester’s M.E.N arena that, “This band have a complex and convoluted emotional history and it has not always been easy”, the comment was undoubtedly one of the understatements of the century.
For if the forty year plus rollercoaster life and times of the supergroup were ever to be dramatised, it would certainly make for the most compelling viewing with its tales of marital splits, inter-band affairs, acrimonious bust-ups, casual bed-hopping, copious amounts of drug taking/life-threatening addictions, alcohol abuse, mental illness, therapy and rehab, flirtations with religious cults and all this whilst simultaneously managing to create some of the finest and biggest selling albums of all-time.
The fact that Fleetwood Mac in 2009 are now, seemingly, the most stable of units is nothing short of a phenomenon and a testament to their individual and collective survival instincts. Messrs Buckingham, Stevie Nicks, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie (Christine McVie quit the band in ’98, opting for a quiet life these days down in Kent) have long since cleaned up their acts and settled their personal differences and, on the current ‘Unleashed’ world tour which rolled up in Manchester last week for a sell-out show, they convincingly demonstrated that their performance levels are as high now as any point previously in their lengthy career.
In the early 1970’s, Fleetwood Mac were a British blues/rock group whose moderately successful career up to that juncture had been seriously derailed by the departure(due largely to one too many bad acid ‘trips’) of founder member, legendary guitarist Peter Green. The group continued to splutter along for a while until the pivotal moment when an American duo, Buckingham and Nicks, joined the band. Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks were lovers as well as performers and came very much as a package, with Buckingham, having been identified as a replacement for Green(after a succession of other players had not worked out), refusing to join Mac unless his partner came ‘on board’ too. The introduction of the duo in 1975, who had previously been bit-part players on the West Coast music scene, struggling to eke out a living, succeeded in adding a radio-friendly sheen to Fleetwood Mac’s blue/rock roots, turning around their fortunes in the process and completely revitalising the group’s career. The now new look Anglo-American Fleetwood Mac embarked on a glorious period of unbroken musical success throughout the remainder of the 1970’s/early 80’s but the new chapter in the group’s history also heralded the start of those well-documented problems that very nearly destroyed the band.
The 2009 ‘Unleashed’ tour has a real celebratory triumph over adversity feel to it and the crowd-pleasing tone of the evening was set in place from the very moment Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham walked out on stage hand in hand to thunderous squeals of delight. And in truth, the two and a half hour show that followed did very much belong to the duo who were undeniably the main focal point with their great on-stage dynamic.
Fleetwood Mac don’t presently have any new album to promote, their last one being 2003’s ‘Say You Will’, though they did hint during the show that there could well be one in the offing, news that was met with great audience excitement. The set list of the current show is drawn largely from the group’s trilogy of 1970’s albums, the self-titled ‘Fleetwood Mac’, the 25 million plus selling ‘Rumours’ and ‘Tusk’, records which marked the band’s halcyon days. “This time we said, ‘let’s just go out and have fun’”, Buckingham told the crowd when explaining the show’s rationale and content and so, what was subsequently served up amounted to a veritable Fleetwood Mac musical feast for fans with great big dollops of classic songs such as ‘The Chain’, ‘Dreams’, ‘Rhiannon’, ‘Gold Dust Woman’, ‘Gypsy’, ‘Oh Well’ – a solitary doff of the hat to the Peter Green Mac era, ‘Never Going Back Again’ and ‘Second Hand News’, which Buckingham introduced, with another reference to their ‘crazy’ years, by saying, “This next song, if memory serves, and these days it often doesn’t serve, due to living one’s life a certain way for a number of years, was the first song written for the Rumours album.”
Buckingham himself is, physically, remarkably well preserved these days and with his boyish, skinny frame, still thick though greying mop of tousled hair, makes a mockery of his sixty years. As for his guitar playing, it is nothing short of dazzling and if anyone present had any doubts beforehand about him deserving to be ranked right up there alongside the greats, they would surely have left the building utterly convinced that he is indeed, a bona fide guitar maestro. He plays his instrument with a manic intensity, at times a picture of almost demonic intent and his spine-tingling solo performance on acoustic guitar for ‘Big Love’ (from the ‘Tango In Night’ album) was something very special to behold, with his breakneck speed of hands building to an awesome finger-shredding climax. Elsewhere, he turned in immense solos on ‘Tusk’ and ‘Go Your Own Way’, shamelessly playing up to the crowd with his whoops and stomping of feet as well as his frequent forays to the very edge of the stage where, on bended knee while soloing, he allowed fans to run their eager fingers all along his guitar fretboard. He still sings great too, possessing a natural flair for harmonising and he does all this, whilst visibly drenched right through in sweat from the second song in yet never once bothering to remove his short black leather jacket in a great display of ultimate rock star ‘cool’.
Miss Stevie Nicks, the perfect onstage foil for Buckingham, still sports her career ‘uniform’ of cropped style riding jacket complete with floaty shawl, billowing skirt, suede platform boots and (occasional)Victorian top hat whilst her mic stand and tambourine are draped with trademark sheer scarves and long ribbons. At sixty-one, despite her years of hard living having clearly taken their toll on her looks and her once svelte figure certainly a little more rounded these days, Nicks remains effortlessly sexy and the epitome of Californian hippy/mystical chic. Her vocals however are her greatest seduction tool, as smoky and ethereal as ever and although she now noticeably avoids notes in the higher register, her dulcet tones still cast quite a spell.
There’s some lovely Buckingham/Nicks coming togethers’ during the show that are played out for maximum effect and which the audience readily lap up. A stunning Nicks rendition of ‘Landslide’ sees her alone on stage with her former paramour accompanying on acoustic guitar and, at the conclusion of ‘Sara’, the pair warmly embrace and hug, sway momentarily in each others arms with a resting of heads on shoulders and there’s a tender kiss from Buckingham to the back of Nicks’ hair. It’s all a little too stage managed but it’s a poignant moment nonetheless and elicits the intended crowd cheers.
As something of a backdrop to the Buckingham and Nick’s floor show, there’s the two ageing gents and somewhat unsung heroes of the group, bassist John McVie (64) and drummer Mick Fleetwood (62), driving things along at a frenetic pace as one of the tightest rhythm sections in the business. McVie, typically motionless and doing his best to avoid eye contact with all, hiding under his flat cap, could easily pass for a grizzled farmer that had just parked his tractor at the back and ambled on stage whilst the towering 6ft 6in Fleetwood, with his grey/white hair slicked back in a short ponytail, wild, wide-eyed gaze, white shirt and black waistcoat and, with those omni-present, what appear to be, pair of oversized clackers dangling from his waist, looks for all his worth as though he has come straight out of the pages of an old English medieval novel. And when he gets his big moment under the spotlight during a fairly lengthy drum solo towards the show’s end, he goes into full-on frenzy mode, battering the hell out of his monstrous kit as he barks out some incomprehensible words to the crowd and generally exhibiting characteristics of a deranged madman. The all-absorbing and enthralling concert reaches a real peak with everyone coaxed to their feet for the big crowd sing-a-long anthems that are ‘Go Your Own Way’ and the rousing encore of ‘Don’t Stop’. It leaves the audience on an exhilarating high and the final utterance from the stage of “We’ll see you next time” is a promise all present surely hope Fleetwood Mac will keep.
