For anyone who knows a bit about me, you'll know I collect the back catalogues of artists I like. This usually involves a combination of buying albums and trawling around the net trying to find an mp3 version of albums that have long since been deleted from production.

Yesterday I managed to get my hands on two albums by Marcella Detroit that I had been seeking, Dancing Madly Sideways and Feeler. However, I am still on a never ending quest for her 1982 album "Marcella" released under her real name Marcy Levy.

I know I could make my life easier and buy a turntable but I am a child of the CD so I would have no way of playing a vinyl copy if I found it.

So my request is that if anyone has this album on CD (not sure if it even made it that far) and is willing to part with it for fair exchange of $, or is willing to at least rip the album for me, it would be greatly appreciated.

What ever happened to Mr Bill Gates' promise that we would one day have a chip that would contain all the music ever released. Didn't he say that years ago?

Thanks ;)

I could never understand why she changed her name after being around so long as Levy???

I mainly remember her from her days as Eric Clapton's backing singer - 1974-1978. I bet she could tell some tales of life on the road

Being a child of the 90s I first encountered her as one half of Shakepaere's Sister...who I love!!

It was a shock when she turned up with that act. I only ever knew her from Clapton's 70's band. Seems she must've been around 22 years old when she joined Clapton's band in '74 and 40 years old when 'Stay' hit number 1 in the UK.

Yeah, I had no idea who she was before then. I think I was about 9 or 10 when Stay came out. I have a fair bit of Shakespeare's Sister stuff, it's brilliant.

What other album should I get of Marcella's then?

Well other than the one I can't find "Marcella" (which is rumoured to not be very good anyway), she had four main solo albums (and a few EP length releases).

The first three, Jewel, Feeler and Dancing Madly Sideways are all reasonably similar although to be honest I'm not overly keen on Dancing Madly Sideways yet (only listened to it a couple of times).

If you like Blues though then her Marcy Levy album "The Upside of Being Down" from a couple of years back is excellent (although completely different to her Marcella Detroit work).

Edit: Oh almost forgot she has a Christmas album too "Santa Claus is Knocking at the Door" which is like the usual Christmas trash that most artists seem to produce (please exclude Bob Dylan from that comment -)
