I know you all are aware that I'm in a band with one of my best friends, Kevin. For what seems like ages, we've been trying to come up with a band name, and nothing has really stuck. In a similar thread, someone made a suggestion, and we've kind of tossed around almost as a joke, but there have been many people who have actually liked it.

So- what is your take on the name Ethwood Kev

Bet you all can't figure out where that one came from! ;)

Much Love,
Ethan

That was my idea. And please don't use it, it's too silly. I'm going to have to vote dislike for my own suggestion! However I'm not going to vote because I'll be sad to see all the dislike for my suggestion that wasn't really a serious suggestion. I'm not sure who the "many people who really liked it" are, but maybe it's like Rhiannon. I'm afraid Ethwood Kev would fall flat on it's face. Or at the very least, Mick would sue you.

However, Evie Kicks might be a good idea. Or Euckingham Kicks.

Sorry but had to vote dislike. Unless you are two guys doing a Fleetwood Mac tribute band then stay away from Ethwood Kev.

Just go for "Keth", much easier ;)

or Vineth

Thanks for the tips guys. Another name that has kind of been floating around is:

Oceans In Cairo

We're wanting something kind of mystical and thought provoking, and definitely something that doesn't sound too generic.

Sorry Ethan I know there was a thread about this before but I'm just too lazy to go looking for it right now...what kind of music do the two of you play?

I'm guessing Ocean's In Cairo wouldn't be a thrash metal band...

ha ha- No, we are not a Thrash Metal Band. Here is our website- with an unfinished instrumental. We haven't yet done the vocals, but you can at least hear what the music sounds like.

Well I'd be leaning towards Ocean's in Cairo over Kevwood Eth or whatever ;)

No, because most people would probably pronounce Ethwood with a short e sound like "eh" (and who wants a Canadian phrase in the mix?), not the long e as in your name, Ethan. Having a name that's easy to say is better.

How about naming your band "The Ledge"?

This name would only work if your real name is Ethwood.

Please for the love of sweet Jesus, don't call your band either of those names. Oceans of Cairo sounds pretentious, Ethwood Kev is blantant plagurism.

Don't worry- Ethwood Kev I do believe is off the table!!!

Let the long, hard search continue! :)

$100 for anyone who's name we chose! ;)

Both those names are terrible, but I have to say I really like that instrumental  I am kinda impressed despite myself, if you know what I mean. Don't wreck it with below-par vocals.

Or get someone else to do the vocals instead (no idea if you can sing or not so not meant to sound insulting  )

Thanks you all!!! :n0d:

When it gets time to record the vocal, we'll really be spending a lot of time on them, to make them sound stellar. Hopefully going to have some Stevie-esque harmonies in there too! ;)

Seriously though, thank you for listening to the song. Please spread the word to your friends!!!

As for band names, I know we'll come up with something really stellar at some point. Nothing that we've thought of at this point has had that really gut punching excitement to it.

Hmm...just a thought...

Take your name from a song...for example "Outside The Rain" which would be a good name for a band....

Some famous bands have taken their names from song titles, not least of all Judas Priest (can't think of any others as it is time for bed).

Yeah- I would love to try to use some sort of Stevie/Mac reference!

It's finding one that sounds good by itself as a band name that is kind of the challenge. And what's funny is that my opinion on what I want changes. Sometimes I think a one word band name would be good- others, I like the multiple word concept.... It's just been insanely difficult- as I've mentioned before. But thanks for some suggestions!!

I think Outside The Rain is a great name for a band too. Certainly better than Oceans In Cairo, which sounds like a prog rock song.

How about ''Potential Band''?

Or, "Still Searching" ;)

Outside the Rain is kind of growing on me actually, I should probably mention it to Kevin. He mentioned something like "Snow Drift" or something last night- kind or leading up to it like it was going to be some awesome name, and I was kind of underwhelmed by that one!

No way t o that name. If you love stevie then a stevie reference......the stevies, Sara or a lyric from sara....said sara. Go through her song lyrics I'd say.

Snow Dream? Star Stream? Snow Dream sounds dirty to me out of context, so, I dunno.

Did a quick scan of some Stevie/Mac CDs on my desk:

Potential Band Names, in no particular order

Eyes of the World
Second Hand News
World Turning
Outside The Rain
WatchDevil
Said Sara
The Ledge
Bombay Sapphires
Face of Grace
Watching Grace's Face
If Anyone Falls
Wild Heart Nighbird
Sable on Blond
Go Ahead Lilly
Imperial Hotel
No Spoken Word
Cry Wolf
Rooms On Fire
Long Way To Go

Anyone think anything of these? :)

I'm liking Said Sara and Outside the Rain and maybe Bombay Sapphires.

THanks all for the suggestions. I think the top Stevie/Mac related ones are:

1. Watch Devil
2. Said Sara
3. Outside the Rain

That being said, Kevin just came across a phrase that means retaliation and stuff like that- which is great because of my lyrics. The name he proposed was

"Roland For An Oliver"

Very unique and I kind of like it. What do you all think?

If you are really going to call your album Running From Shangri-La I don't think a Stevie-inspired band name is a good idea myself.

It also kinda sounds like a rip-off of "Long Road out of Eden" in a way.

And, um... I think the poll respondents are really not digging the name.

Yeah- we're looking at all options for band names- not just Stevie related ones. Kevin and I are looking at many different options- including some my roommate and I came up with last night. Right now, the list looks like this:

1. Watch Devil
2. Said Sara
3. Outside the Rain
4. Roland For An Oliver
5. Three Ways From Sunday
7. Secondary Dominance
8. Songs For Susan
9. Secrets of Sara
10. Third Party Opinion

Wanted to ask opinions on this one. Within the past week, I wrote a song with this title, but thought it may be a nice potential band name. So, what do you think of:

Amorous Mile

Just let me know!

nailatixela
06-06-2010, 05:20 PM
Well, a name describes the band. Do you want yours to be described as one mile's worth of sexual desire? If so, great name!

I'm still embarassed to see my sarcastic band name on this thread's title.

I would be careful on using song names of Stevie's or FM,For a band name,I dont like the idea of seeing anyone on here going to court to meet Stevie and her team of attorneys.I would check into it, if it was me.

The name that came as I'm typing this post is "The Wild Hearts" but that name is taken by band in the UK.

Maybe this would be a good way for Ethan to meet Stevie.
