GNR proved to be the winners over Nirvana last round.
This time I've gone for some classic pop.
Once again please vote and post who you voted for and why.

"duh"? I think Like A Virgin is a great pop record myself. I think it's Madonna's best selling too.

Wow. This is really a tough one. The albums are so different from one another, and both classic. I suppose you could argue that Thriller is the better album. Oddly enough, I would listen to cuts from Virgin more often... so I pick Madonna. ;)

Again: Ew. Must I choose? Just kidding... Like a Virgin is a decent album and I'm not giving any sympathy votes so I'm gonna go with Madonna.

If "Lucky Star" , "Holiday", and "Borderline" (ESPECIALLY "Borderline")- even two out of the three- were part of "Like a Virgin", only THEN could there be a possible comparison with "Thriller". "Virgin" has the 2-3 big singles, a couple catchy tunes, and the rest is pure filler. You could make a pretty strong case that its a considerably weaker effort than her debut album.

"Thriller" has the abortion known as "The Girl Is Mine", but even that can't be considered filler.

I'm going to have to sit this one out. I just thought I'd mention though that True Blue is Madonna's best selling album. Anyway though, both albums have played an iconic role in my life when I've been discovering music. Madonna was my first true idol of music (yes, there was someone before Stevie!) and as my mam loved Michael Jackson, and still does, I remember being exposed to the likes of Thriller a lot as child.

Oh, and Luke, there's the likes of Dress You Up, Angel, Over and Over -- songs I would definitely not consider filler. But, it's all subjective.

I'm a big Madonna fan (of her stuff between '84-99, not so much in the past 10 years) but having said that, Thriller is a much more consistent record than Like A Virgin. That's why I've gone for Thriller. I completely agree with every word of this post and I was about to say the same things before I noticed it.

I agree that Like A Virgin is weaker than Madonna (the first album) and yes, if the first few tracks mentioned above were on it it could well have been her best album ever! As it is I think that too many tracks are a bit like filler, but Dress You Up is great! Oh well...

Thriller only has one great song after another and I always thought that Human Nature never got its due as a great track, even though it's been sampled by several artists. The Girl Is Mine is truly AWFUL though, the horrible speaking parts...eeuughhh!

Right you are! Like A Virgin is her best selling in the States but worldwide it's True Blue. I think Like A Virgin is her most iconic though.

This is a tough one. I listened to both of these albums obsessively when I was a little kid. I had my walkman and if I wasn't listening to one or the other I was listening to Bonnie Tyler or Cyndi Lauper. I miss the eighties. I guess I'll go with Thriller because I had a Michale Jackson Thriller iron-on t-shirt from the mall when I was 4.

The actual song Thriller scared the crap out of me, and I generally refused to listen to it. The video did not help matters.:o

I'm also sure my parents must have loved it when I would sing a long to Like a Virgin.

I chose "Thriller" because as much as I love Madonna, I don't think "Like a Virgin" was nearly as good as her first album. Besides the singles that came from it, and LDLHA, it just doesn't impress me as much as what came before and after it.
