Is it true that Stevie is a free agent here in the US? I was told that she didn't recieve a new option ( deal ) with Warner Bros. Records here in the US. That doesn't make any sense at all......

Idk about that, if that's true wouldn't that have been in the news or heck even the tabloids? If so, that's sad! She's awesome, and i'm sure has more material to release even if it's just stuff that's never been released before.

Fleetwood Mac's former producer Rob Cavullo just became the man in charge at Warner, so who knows?

OMG I love your cat playing the piano!! Okay back on topic--no I haven't heard anything about this...... but isn't this what everyone was hoping?? So she didn't have to keep putting out greatest hits after greatest hits???

Maybe so, but doesn't that mean she can't put out anything? Or maybe start her own label?

I would think Stevie could go and do whatever she wanted...ANY record label would love to have her...

WOW! I had no idea about this. You'd think if it were true we would have heard about it. I guess only time will tell. In a way, though, this wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing would it?? If she weren't under contract with a record company telling her just what and when she could release something, she would be able to release a lot of stuff that the fans would love that the record execs may not have been too keen on because it may not be widely commercial. It might have to be on a smaller scale if she were to do it on her own, but at the same it would be more about her and less about being commerial.

Still, even though she has to compromise a lot while under contract, I understand there are a lot of advantages to having the backing of a large record company.

We've speculated about this for quite some time. With the release of the Soundstage Sessions, there is speculation that her deal is done. But I don't know for certain.

Don't know, but if she IS a free agent........

She should totally come down to Bowling Green, and she could be the singer in my band and it would be a beautifully enchanted spectacle!!!!!!:D

How long has this been going around, and how true is it? I'm a newbie still, but getting more knowledgable and would like to know more about this.

I would say we've been speculating about her deal for five or so years. When she showed no interest in making a follow up to TISL, people stated she wanted to do a greatest hits type thing and live record and that's exactly what has come to pass.

She's also pretty clearly said something along the lines of it's never an artist's idea to do these greatest hits packages, but contractually she had to go out and promote them once they were released and act thrilled about them. I do know with the release of Soundstage, she's fulfilled her contract with WB. I suppose she'd have to sign a new contract with them to record any new material. It doesn't seem she or the Mac have any interest in leaving WB, though I think it'd be better for all parties involved. But I suspect WB has made it clear to her they aren't interested in her recording any new material, hence all this greatest hits type crap.

Maybe I should know this already but I was just wondering...how does her contract with WB as part of FM affect her contract with WB as a solo artist?? If say, her contract is up as a solo artist, yet she is still under contract as a member of FM, how would that affect her ability to release her solo work without WB? Or is it that the two are completely separate?

They have completely separate contracts. I believe that both FM and Stevie have fulfilled their contractual obligations though, so technically neither is under contract now and they're both free to shop for their own respective deals. I don't think either would leave WB though, I think they feel a real sense of obligation to them. I suppose since WB has continued to allow the Mac and Stevie to keep recording, long after their biggest successes.

I think there was a sense of loyalty for sure, but when "administrations" change how far does the loyalty go?

It does make me think of Stevie's infamous 1978 speech (3:05):

WARNER BROTHERS, THANK YOU!! ;)

Thanks for the info :)

I didn't figure that her FM contract would have anything to do with her solo one...but you never know...and I wasn't sure if they would use their relationship with her through FM to still exert pressure on her in terms of her solo career (even when they had no right to) but I guess if the FM contract is up as well, it doesn't really matter anyway.

My understanding was she signed a three record deal with WB priot to TISL. If that is the case then she is done with the contract. At this point her not having a deal really doesn't mean anything because she doesn't have anything recorded yet. EVERYTHING she's done as a solo artist up to this point is either owned by Modern (Atlantic) Records or Warner Bros. Records. They can re-issue collections until the end of time.
So Stevie could very well be without a deal. I believe that Fleetwood Mac is also without a deal. Wasn't "Say You Will" signed as a one off thing? Keep in mind when they recorded SYW they didn't have a deal either, but Warner Bros. opted to pick it up, but it was offered to other labels first.
Stevie being without a deal doesn't really mean anything at all.

Speaking of WB administrations, last week I kept hearing about Rob Cavallo being promoted to the position of Chief Creative Officer at Warner Music Group. The press release noted that he was responsible for putting together The Dance.

This is VERY interesting. Don't know WHAT'S going to happen. Fleetwood Mac, and all it's various members, have long run their course with Warner's.....they should have all left the label long ago.
Lindsey was out of his contract after UNDER THE SKIN.....yet he chose to re-sign for GIFT OF SCREWS....and look what happened!
I know they talked to a number of other labels for SAY YOU WILL, but were swayed back to WB.....and look what happened!!
As for Stevie.....with no new material in almost a decade, getting a new record deal could tough. Plus, being over 60 is another strike against her. Being a woman and over 60 is a double strike.
And I really can't see Stevie starting her own label....she's never been that driven!
Maybe if she hooked back up with Paul, Danny and someone younger.....!
