The Dance tour is a great old tour...
Please step right up and share you story from The Dance Tour! How surprised were you to hear that these five people were getting back together again? And what did you think of the show that you went to? Lindsey was back...Stevie was thin...and we hadn't seen Christine in a live setting in 7 years.
Please share any memories you have from this tour.

I went to the October 1st 1997 Columbus,Ohio show. It was my 1st Fleetwood Mac concert. I was so completely thrilled!!! I certainly didn't have great seats, but I was just so happy to be there! Everyone was wonderful and it was like a dream come true:)

First concert for me was September of 1997 on the Dance tour. I was 8 years old and my mother took me. We had 24th row center section and I had never been to a concert before. I was absolutely terrified when everyone started yelling hahaha! But when they came out I was just in awe and I totally thought Stevie was waving at me!!
I remember Stevie in a long white jacket, she looked chilly. I remember when they did 'Everywhere' everyone went crazy when Christine sang the high part. After Gold Dust Woman Stevie said it was great to be back in Boston. I remember when she went backstage for ISA she almost got stuck inbetween the speakers because the space was so small.
I was baffled by Lindsey's 'Sardonic World' poem, didn't really know what it was about. I remember Stevie re-entered in like a Harry Potter robe/cloak that I hated haha! I was very upset because my mother spilled my popcorn during 'Sweet Girl'. There was some obnoxious fat lady behind us that was yelling at me (an 8 year old) because I was standing up and dancing.
The whole day of the concert I kept arguing with my mother that they would absolutely do 'Second Hand News' (it was my favorite song at the time). And she was like, no, no, no. My concert happened to be the night they dropped Eyes of the World and added Second Hand News. I remember when they started it, I looked at my mom and literally was like "TOLD YA SO."
I was so excited when Stand Back started, but I was so confused as to why Stevie was in a different cape. I was hoping for the big one with the dots, but she had a silvery one and wore it differently.
No one seems to believe me, but when Mick and Lindsey were doing their thing on NTF, I saw Christine smoking a cigarette on the side of the stage! I was also convinced that the USC marching band would come on stage and do 'Tusk' with them, but of course they didn't (I was such an optimistic child).
Honestly, even though it was great to see them all, I think it was the worst of all the Mac shows I saw. They were musically all over the place.

At the Chicago show, Stevie forgot the words to "Stand Back" and we mouthed them to her from the audience. Lindsey and Christine were cracking up and Stevie looked horrified. Just a random memory of the Dance tour... :p

I'm very excited about this thread! I actually wasn't able to afford tickets to the Dance tour so that is one that I'm always curious to hear more about. It's interesting to hear about the interactions seen between the band members after such a long, hard break away from each other. They seemed to have changed so much. Any other stories would be really appreciated!

I saw The Mac on this tour in Atlantic City, about the third or the second show to the last...can't remember which but I remember this and a few other dates were added at the last minute. I missed the original Philadelphia show because I had to work and I was not happy but then this show appeared. It was a great show, Stevie wore a pink chiffon duster for the Rhiannon, etc. segment instead of the black one (for those who care about such things LOL). Her GDW twirl from John back over to the mic was absolute perfection. And yes, this is the show that Lindsey had to finish singing Silver Springs for her. I don't remember it that clearly because it was so unexpected and I was mesmerized during the whole show, and when he sang that part I wasn't quite sure it was rehearsed that way or not. I don't think I had seen/bought any bootlegs while the tour was still going on so I didn't have anything to compare it to. It was, however, an incredible moment when he sang those words...

You've thrown this around a lot on the boards, and I want to know your rationale for saying it. Everything I've heard from people close to Stevie says they weren't...

I heard they were together as well, and through Stevie's Enchanted Tour. Some say they spotted Lindsey at her solo shows in random cities...

I'm really, really curious about this. Stevie and Lindsey's relationship in the late 90s really intrigues me, because I firmly believe there was emotional attachment that made things "complicated".... but from there, I don't know.

I think they were emotionally "together" and therefore it was a form of cheating... I get that vibe when we read about Stevie knowing that it was "officially over" when he had his first kid.

But who were they cheating on? Didn't Lindsey meet his wife sometime in '99? I don't recall.
As far as I know, there's been no "evidence" from either Lindsey or Stevie that supports that eh?

I love how Lindsey gave his "eternal return" speech in Arizona with Stevie embracing him from behind, two months after Leelee was born. For real? I'm Kristen - I'm kicking you out. You can have your eternal return to Arizona with your ex-ex-ex (spectre) girlfriend buddy. :wavey:

I didn't make it to a concert, but my sister,Deb, and her friend, Danielle, went to the Minneapolis show. Danielle had connections and got them backstage passes. After the show, they were taken to a room backstage and told to wait for the band members. There were a few other people already in the room. After nearly an hour, the others got tired of waiting and left, but Deb and Danielle decided to wait a bit longer. They saw someone pass by the door, and asked him if the band members had left already. He said that he knew that Mick and John had, but he thought the others were still around. A few minutes later Stevie and Lindsey walked in the room, hand in hand and sat close to each other on a couch. They apologized and said that they didn't know that anyone was waiting for them. They did confirm that Mick, John, and Christine had left, and hoped that Deb and Danielle weren't too disappointed, (of course they weren't). After a few minutes of small talk, Danielle told them that she was happy to see that Stevie and Lindsey were back together again, and they both denied that they were. Lindsey spoke up and said that Stevie had a boyfriend. Stevie went on to say that there had to be a better term for the man she was dating because he was not a boy. She then settled on the term "gentleman friend". Stevie told them that Lindsey was involved in a serious relationship, that he was practically married, and Lindsey said, "Well, I don't know if I'd go that far." After a few more minutes of small talk, Stevie and Lindsey appologized again for making them wait so long for such a short time with only part of the band. Stevie said that she had some friends in the area who were having a party for her. Lindsey didn't say where he was going, but Deb and Danielle did say that they had seperate limos.

That's amusing. Thank you for the recounting. Funny that Stevie and Lindsey took turns discussing the other person's romantic status. Oh, we aren't having an affair Stevie has a boyfriend. Oh, there's nothing going on here, Lindsey is practically married. Usually people would just speak for themselves and say, "I'm involved" or "we're just friends."

I saw this concert at the Continental Area. Woooooooooooooo. It rocked! This was my first time seeing Lindsey with Fleetwood Mac, and it was awesome. I'm So Afraid completly blew my mind, it was the absolute peak of my evening. But simply watching them ( not 6 of them, not 4 of them, but the 5 of them) interact, the sounds of their voices, and the loud kick ass music was more than I'd ever expected. I'll never forget!

I was there in the second row between Stevie and Christine... they was real tears, hon'. To be honest, at first I thought it was just schtick- that somehow she was able to turn on the waterworks every night. After all, she often cried at the end of "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for You." But then that next-to-final chord kept playing while Stevie stood at the mic. By this time, after what seemed an eternity, she had turned her back to the audience and was standing there in the spotlight kind of frozen in place. Eventually Lindsey came up to her, put his arm around her and finished the final "You could be my silver spring..." line for her looking her dead in the eyes. As the lights came up I could still see that she was just completely overcome. And then as the lights dimmed, the tape track for "Tusk" started playing, and I could still see that she was inconsolable as she marched off stage. It was definitely a real moment.

LOL. Ok, gotcha. I meant I thought her voice gave out and it was strained to the point it caused her pain - which is what caused her tears. But, if she was emotional, she was emotional.

Michelle and I were driving across country that week, from Massachusetts where I had just purchased a car to Phoenix, where we lived. Michelle did most of the driving because she liked to go very fast and I was always scared to go faster than 65mph. I didn't look at the speedometer when she was driving. Many times she complained she was tired and I'd say, "keep driving. I've got to get to the Fleetwood Mac concert." I told her if she got any speeding ticket I would pay half of the fine. She got a ticket in Oklahoma City. She was driving at 90mph. (Everybody gets a ticket in OK) New Mexico weather is always unpredictable. It's a very large state and not too far from the Arizona border we had to drive through a major lightning storm with a huge downpour. It slowed us down immensly. We arrived in Phoenix after 5 days on the road and drove straight to Desert Sky Pavilion. There was no time to go home first. The band was already on stage and had just finished singing Landslide. We did not have tickets. There was a one inch crack in a wall that allowed us to peer through to see the stage. Michelle didn't care about the show. She was so exhausted from being pushed and whipped across country by me that she just went over near some bushes and started puking.
Near the end of the show I had a conversation with some stranger through that peep hole. I could see him but he couldn't see me. He seemed "interested" in me until he asked how old I was and then he vanished.
This is what I most remember about the show.

I saw 5 shows on this tour.
10-3, Cincinnati
10-4, Detroit
10-5, Indianapolis
10-8, Minneapolis
10-9, Fargo
I remember it being Lindsey's birthday at my first show and everyone talking about how that was the arena that the infamous Who concert in 1979 happened at. Indianapolis was beautiful because it was outdoors at what was then called Deer Creek Music Center. My favorite outdoor Venue Ive been to to this day. I wanted to go to more shows, but tickets were so scarce I just couldnt afford it. For ths Minneapolis show, I was the first person in line for tickets I waited for 27 hours, and there were over 400 people in line at the Target Center by the time the tickets went on sale! That was one of the last shows I remmber where the tickets were "first dome, first serve." I just remember haning out all day and night with a lesbian couple and 5 college dudes from UW-Madison. What a fun time! Oh and I got interviewed by all of the major TV stations in Minneapolis being the first in line. What really pissed me off though was that both Detroit, Indy, and Fargo went on sale the same day so once I had my Minneapolis tickets(front row!) secured, I had to go over to the Ticketmaster outlet and wait in line for another 2 hours to get my tix for the other 3 shows. Long story short, I forgot to tell my mom I was on the news and by the time I got home I was so exhausted I fell asleep and never saw myself on tv!:laugh: Now for the Cincinnati ticket story. This one really frustrated me because I kept calling TM and they said they had no information for this show. Well it turns out that this show was being handled by a different ticketing agency and that arena had just undergone a refurbishment and been renamed The Crown. I couldnt get any information and was getting really pissed! Finally, 2 weeks before the show I called Cincinnati information and someone finally knew what the F**K I was talkin about! I called the ticket office thinking that theyd be sold out for sure but for 1 single ticket I got 3rd row center right on the aisle!

Gosh this seems like yesterday but it was like 12 years ago! F***.
I saw them in Buffalo late november right before thanksgiving. November 23,1997. My parents got me tickets for my birthday. I was beyond stoked. I got the dance album for my 13th birthday from my brother and concert tickets from my parents. Probably one of my favorite birthdays...ever.
Two things I really remember from this show. We were up in the bleeds and the sound was TERRIBLE. I remember the bass being so over the top, insanely loud that it made my ribcage rumble. It ruined the entire mix, it was atrocious. I have yet to attend a concert with sound THAT BAD ever since. I can't even put into words how terrible the sound mix at this concert was, it really was unbelievable. Obviously they got into town late and didn't do a soundcheck, the sound tech was deaf, or just poor design of the building created some bad acoustics. I saw the mac at the same venue again in '03 and they sounded great but I had floor seats. Saw billy joel there in '99 up in the bleeds and it sounded fine too. I had a cassette copy of this show for years and you can clearly hear the sound issues on that recording as well. I always wished a better recording would pop up, like the Fargo or Minneapolis recordings.
The other thing I remember was the couple of people in the row in front of us passed a joint around during gypsy, which was pretty hysterical at the time...siting there with my middle aged parents and i'm barely a teenager. The aroma made gypsy a pretty memorable moment.
I also remember Not That Funny going on for what seemed like FOREVER. At one point lindsey was flat on his back and then on all fours, screaming "buuuuuuuuuuuuffalo......buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuffalo.....are you there!?! are you still with meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" kind of like how mick does on world turning.
The encores were extremely rushed, lindsey even mentioned that they were running out of time, real quick. This seemed to happen very often on this tour from other boots i've listened to...not sure why.
I remember my parents saying they thought it was kind of crappy that they never introduced all their back up musicians...which I guess is kind of crappy looking back. At least they do it now.

Forgot to mention this other little sidenote...the two ladies sitting next to my parents and I told us how they saw stevie on the wild heart tour at the old aud. Way up in the nosebleeds, which if anyone here is familiar with the old aud in buffalo, those seats are infamously steep. Anyway, they said they thought stevie was really stoned the whole time LOL

I was only three years old when they did The Dance, so I don't have any memories
I have no memories either as they didn't do Europe. I think Christine had had enough by then.

Please step right up and share you story from The Dance Tour! How surprised were you to hear that these five people were getting back together again?I was shocked. I never thought it would happen. The distances between the members had grown too great by the mid 1990s.
And what did you think of the show that you went to?Not very interesting to me because of all the hardware involved, even though I had seen & heard just as much hardware on the past two Fleetwood Mac tours. The pre-Time tour was refreshing because the band didn't employ anywhere near as much hardware.
Lindsey was back...Stevie was thin...and we hadn't seen Christine in a live setting in 7 years.I don't think Stevie was thin. That's not my definition of thin. Christine didn't seem to be having as much fun playing as she used to have. She didn't get into the jams as much, or bob around much.
Please share any memories you have from this tour. When I think of this tour, I think of its connection to the Ledge. I think of how I was supposed to meet a couple of friends at the Shoreline show, but I didn't. They were really hurt & decided to take revenge on me. They knew I & a few other ledgies were posting on a Ledge page that was no longer in official use but hadn't been removed by the administrator. They knew because I told them, & they read it. So they decided to alert the main bulk of the ledgies as to the existence of this "hidden" site by linking to it in public. This caused an uproar & ultimately convinced the administrator to split the single Ledge into five or six mini-Ledges. These were great times, but kind of sad, too. That's what I think of when I think of the 1997 tour.

Thin isn't always relative, but it is for Stevie. And relative to everything from the Unleashed tour.....yeah, she was thin.

And yet I remember her looking as good as she ever has when I saw her in 2007 - only two years ago...
It's a Fleetwood Mac thing, I swear. She needs to drop 'em and go solo.

For the rest of the tour, Stevie wasn't even on that side of the stage at that point. She was over there with John and Chris when he usually grabbed her. He would touch all 3, one after another, in the same vicinity, as a matter of course.
I have to assume that that night she was over there, as far away from him as possible, specifically to avoid him. He was not deterred.

Cool...thanks for sharing this!

The Seattle Times, October 13, 1997
http://community.seattletimes.nwsource.com/archive/?date=19971013&slug=2565878
Fleetwood Mac, Saturday night at the Tacoma Dome.
TACOMA - All is forgiven.
Fleetwood Mac didn't look or sound like the splintered band it had been for so long. It was as if all the past acrimonies, romantic entanglements, financial disasters and drug horrors that had plagued the superstar group for so long had never existed. All the bad stuff fell away and all that mattered was the music.
If there was one moment in the nearly two-hour show that epitomized the new era of sweetness and light it was when Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham - former lovers who had long been at odds - hugged each other tenderly after performing an especially touching "Landslide."
Better than recording
Performing the song close together on stage, Nicks' singing was as strong and emotional as ever, and Buckingham's guitar accompaniment was even better than that on the original hit recording.
Another moment that showed that Fleetwood Mac was back came when Mick Fleetwood - still the tallest and skinniest drummer in rock - performed a good old-fashioned drum solo, concluding with his roaming the stage "playing" his vest, which had synthesized drum pads all over it, played with his hands and fingers. He may be gray and balding, but he showed he could still wail, just as he did in the band's heyday 20 years ago.
As always, Nicks was the focal point whenever she was on stage. She did not waver a bit from her gypsy image, even after all the jokes and ridicule. She twirled in a fringed golden cape at the end of "Gold Dust Woman," arms outstretched, rhinestone bracelets glittering on her wrists and her blond hair flowing. Under the cape she wore a fringed black dress that looked like lingerie, with a revealing, plunging neckline.
After singing her trademark song "Gypsy," she remarked, "There's a houseful of gypsies here tonight." She must've spied some of the Stevie Nicks wannabees in the crowd, dressed and made up just like her (only most of them were in their 20s). Nicks apparently is still a fashion icon.
The most supercharged member of the reunited lineup was Buckingham, who obviously kept his chops up during the seven years or so that the band was largely inactive, prior to its reunion earlier this year. Always the best musician in the band, he threw himself into his performances, almost to the point of being scary.
Plenty of intensity
He seemed to ravage his throat singing his intense songs, "I'm So Afraid" and "My Little Demon." His guitar playing was impressive throughout, but especially his searing solos during "Afraid," "Big Love" and "Bleed to Love Her."
And let us not forget Christine McVie, always the most normal and most stable member (and thus the least noticed). Looking elegant, as always, behind her black, shiny grand piano, she added greatly to the harmonies and sang, in a voice unchanged over the years, "Everywhere," "You Make Loving Fun" and "Sugar Daddy."
The concert resembled the band's new live comeback album, "The Dance," a mix of classics and new songs, but also was much richer, with almost twice as many numbers.
Many of the band's classics were represented, including "Rhiannon," "Don't Stop," "The Chain," "Dreams, "Say You Love Me" and "Go Your Own Way."
Others on stage
The five band members were augmented by five additional musicians, including two guitarists/keyboardists, two female backup singers and a percussionist.
The show sputtered at first, with some sour harmonies during the second song, "Dream." Nicks went over and huddled with the two backup singers, and everything went smoothly after that.
The evening had a celebratory feeling, with the worshipful, largely middle-age audience applauding and cheering every chance it got.
