Why does everyone bash this one so much? Granted from what i've heard of it is kind of a bland album. But she sounds clearer, like she doesn't have a lot of machines and instruments behind her, not over produced I guess? I've only listened to up to Rose Garden, and it's not that bad sounding, although not the best.

What do you guys think? I saw a review on Amazon where someone said this was his favorite by Stevie and the most underrated.

I love Street Angel, as much as I love all Stevie's albums :) I think her voice is really good in it and the songs are awesome!!! I think it's a great album and not that bad as some thinks... ;)

I love most of SA. The only songs I can live without are the Dylan cover and the Monkey.

Monkey? I've heard tale of this monkey don't know which song it is mentioned in.

Maybe Stevie wants a monkey?

Why does everyone bash this one so much? The songs don't have enough unicorns in them, so the fans bash it.

What do you guys think? I think it sounds great. Good songs, played very straightforwardly & recorded clearly. Engineering is kind of poor, especially on Docklands. All in all, one of Stevie's best -- & least pretentious -- albums. I could listen to Destiny & Just Like a Woman all day.

All you haterz who don't like Street Angel -- she is not a witch! get a life!

I have to admit I am one of the ones who thinks she is Wiccan, although I do like her songs even if they don't have unicorns in them! :D

Street Angel is a good, if flawed album. Get rid of Unconditional Love though. louielouie made some very good comments about it in a previous thread. I'll see if I can find them...

Well I've said this before, no-one does Dylan like Dylan. However, full credit to Stevie for trying. You don't know you will fail unless you try ;)

I agree David....Street Angel shows a more versatile (less airy-fairy) side of Stevie. Although, I love the airy-fairyness, I love Street Angel.
I just bought this album at a used music store about a week ago, and I had reservations because of the bad reviews...but, I was not about to leave a poor, lowly Stevie CD in that store!!! I'm glad I bought it.

Street Angel was the first solo album I got after Timespace. I immediately fell for this album- you know how most albums have to grow on you- this one was instant love, and it still is. I actually listened to it on the way back to school today!!!

I think this album just needed a bit more production it was a little to bland in spots and i definitely agree that Docklands, Just Like A Woman, Unconditional Love and Jane should have been scrapped or at least changed so that they didn't have Laundromats and Forgotten Chimpanzee's in their lyrics...

I like Street Angel, but I wish she had used the version of "Listen to the Rain" with the lyric "This world will still revolve without you". Also, I would have loved it if "Love is Like a River" was more like the demo "She Calls You Missing".

I actually like Docklands despite the laundromat!

The music on Street Angel is not completely irredeemable. Some like what others don't, as ever...

However, are we all agreed that the artwork is terrible?!

It just plain sucks. Bad photo, bad font. It looks really cheap and nasty, and the cd itself is even a dodgy colour, that horrible lilac! In fact, I've never understood that one. It doesn't match the artwork or colour scheme of the rest of the package at all. Weird...

I don't have the cd I downloaded it, anyone got pics? I know what the front looks like however. I agree i don't like the font.

I agree completely. The demos for both these songs were better. The demo for Docklands was better than what she released too.

Street Angel has it's good and bad. I find I really have to be in a certain mood to listen to it. I may not listen to it for a year and then, out of nowhere, it's all I can think about!!

I can't agree with you more this is by far the worst album cover stevie has ever done, did someone not mention to her that when you put on weight and wear white it makes you look a bit like a fridge!
Not that stevie looked like a fridge but this cover is bland and boring it needed at least some spectacular title font like Enchanted and TISL.
Who commissioned that photo shoot? they need to be shot!
Where was Herbie when she needed him?

Isn't it confounding that this song was in serious consideration to be the first single from the album?

It's easy to understand how sub-par it is when you know Chris Nicks was the "designer." I appreciate that Stevie loves her brother, but he does her no favors when it comes to anything he touches in her career. It's a grevious case of nepotism. I was so mad when I saw the butcher job he did to that album. No graphic design talent at all -- it's just so sloppy, misconceived, and amateurish. How the hell did that get approved to go to print??? Where was quality control?

On a side note: Many years ago I briefly lived in Arizona. I worked with someone who used to hang out and play with Chris Nicks when they were early teenagers. He noted that Stevie's mom would always tell both of them that she wished they would cut their long hair.

My mom cried the first time I cut my long hair, i hate cutting it, and since joining the Marines have finally grown mine out. Unfortunately i'm "shedding" so that is just irritating!
