To hear segments of Mick Fleetwood's new radio interview in New Zealand.
Easy Mix's Mick Fleetwood Interview - What Really Happened Onstage In New Zealand 30 Years Ago...
We love Fleetwood Mac - what a band, what a legacy and yes, what a soap opera. I interviewed Stevie Nicks once and she said that New Zealand was the only country the band hadn't done an encore in because Lindsey got angry at Stevie for singing the wrong part in a song and threw his guitar at her before they all stormed off the stage. Lindsey told me he doesn't remember this happening at all and when we interviewed Mick he says he thought it was a lighting rig that had fallen down and he went on the radio the next day to apologise! - Tim. (radio interviewer)
The segments are very short, but Mick discusses about the incident that happened on stage 30 years ago in New Zealand, between Stevie and Lindsey. After Mick also wrote about the incident in his own book, now Mick says that he thought it was a lighting rig that had fallen down on the stage... Then Mick briefly says that there could be a movie about Fleetwood Mac... They all 3 (Mick, Stevie and Lindsey) have different stories about what happened in New Zealand 30 years ago, and now Lindsey claims he has forgot and does not remember what happened back then about the stage incident... Could you imagine all 3 of them in a room trying to remember stories, for a script for a movie... the arguments they would have over who remembers what, and who's story is correct??? I say they could get enough material out of that 'making a Mac' movie for another music album... "Rumours 2" ~...:laugh::laugh:

Reminds me of this (from an Australian article in 2004 for the SYW tour):
"Things are better now than they used to be," says Nicks. "In the old days we were angry with each other and didn't like each other. We had to go on stage and play. It was all about dirty looks and not having much fun. That's partly to do with why Lindsey left the band in '83."
"Eighty-seven," interjects Buckingham and, as if on cue, there follows a few minutes of intense discussion between them about just when the guitarist was in the band and when he wasn't.
"But honey, you really left in '83, you only came back to do [the album] Tango in the Night in 1987. You didn't tour."
"No, no, I was in the band until 1987," he insists, and suddenly it's as if only the two of them are in the room. "I was there for the whole thing. I produced the album and then I pulled out for the tour because it was just too crazy."
Nicks gives this a few seconds' thought.
"I thought you pretty much left. Oh, I can't even remember," she concedes.
Buckingham, however, is eager to make his point, recalling how the artistically adventurous Tusk, the relatively unsuccessful follow-up to Rumours, was a turning point in his relationship with the other members. He's still addressing this only to Nicks.
"It was harder for me because after Tusk there was this dictum that came down [from the other members] that we weren't going to move to the left too much anymore. It was hard for me to reconcile the process because that was interesting to me. In some ways I was treading water, but I was never not there. I was there for everything."
Nicks thinks again. "So where was I?"
Then, realising there's a third person in the room, they laugh and acknowledge the therapy session ambience.

I know Mick was telling people in Meet and Greet that Sara was about him and Stevie said that Sara told people that too, even though Stevies says Recor knew it (supposedly) was not about her.

Mick has got to play some part in the "inspiration" for Sara. Think back to the 1979 Innerview in which Stevie said: "Mick is involved in Sara because he's a very deep & dear friend. There's another musician in Sara. There are many men in Sara."
Sara just might be the kinkiest song Fleetwood Mac ever wrote.

Oh, Lord!
I now need to bathe in bleach!
I could see him as the Great Dark Wing (and that's what I remember Stevie saying somewhere--that he was the inspiration for that since he wore that funky-assed cape) but that's about it.
I'd assume the singing and lace-undoing was Don Henley.
I think anything stormy was Lindsey.
And Sara, of course, is Stevie.

I agree with this. I think she was saying that Mick was sort of the saviour to her when Lindsey was being a prick. Which, I guess at that time, was most pretty regularly.

After Stevie said that there were about 3 or 4 men in Sara, including Mick, she also said her friend Sara was in it. But later she said it wasn't about Sara Recor:
"Sara is sort of the life and times of Fleetwood Mac during Tusk. Sara is sort of what happened in the beginning of the recording of Tusk to the end. I do have a girlfriend whose name is Sara and is very sweet who would like to think that Sara is about her, but knowing that it's not, she just tells everybody this when I'm not around. It's about Fleetwood Mac. I'm Sara, Mick is Sara, Lindsey is Sara, Chris is Sara, John is Sara, Sara is Sara. I just use that name to tell what happens in Sara and you have to realize that there is another sixteen minutes of Sara that you haven't heard."
_____________
"Yeah, it's really special to me and all my friends really love it...and my dad loves it. My mother used to say to me before the album came out, she'd say 'Stevie, when your father talks about Sara, he sounds like he is talking about God Bless America.' I'd say 'I know mother.'"
"He starts to go, 'Now listen to this part, this is very nice, this part coming up' and I'm just going 'oh Dad, I know.' And he just drags people in and drags out the demos and makes them listen and points out, just like I do."

This thread reminds me of one of my favourite Stevie quotes:
"I feel I can write about myself through Sara and that people will understand. Because I can’t write all these songs and call them all Stevie [laughs] I have to come up with something different. So I pick out names that I especially love like Rhiannon and Gypsy, even though gypsy is not a name, to me it is a name… Juliet of Romeo & Juliet, Alice of Alice In Wonderland. So I write my own stories about me through them."
That quote always makes me laugh because she's right, pretty much all her songs are about herself, but I definitely think there's a little bit about Sara Recor in that song. I think she probably denied it at the time because Mick left her for Sara and over the years that's the story that has stuck.

Stevie to self: "Now, what can I do to really piss Sara Recor off? I am SO mad at her for stealing Mick, the great dark wing, away from me...I KNOW! I will write a song and name it after her! That'll teach her! And everytime I sing her name onstage I will be reminded at how pissed off I am at both her and Mick Fleetwood for breaking my heart into a million tiny pieces. I will also point out in the song how Sara is the poet in 'my' heart, even though I will really not be talking about Sara Recor at all but instead Sara will become one of my alter egos, who is DEFINITELY the poet in Mick's, Don's and Lindsey's hearts...and Fleetwood Mac too. Because that's just the poet that I am!" ;)

There's a LOT of things in his book...the book which everyone has admitted is evidence that not only was Mick prone to extreme exaggeration, but was also the product of a couple of *ahem* well-lit interviews... ;)
My favorite Stevie quote about Mick's book:
If I read it, I would go through with a BIG read marking pencil, like a teacher, which is what I was trying to be, and I would be putting question marks [laughing and does a question mark in the air] and scratching out things and putting big LIE [writes a big lie in the air] and you know, circling things "Could've been written better".

Well, it was Lindsey who said that Mick was "rock cock" without any prompting from the big guy.
I thought that Mick was "piggy in the middle," but ok. Maybe Stevie shared some technical specifications with Linds.

It seems to me that whenever you ask Lindsey, "is this song about" he just says "yes" to whatever you suggest and I don't know whether I believe him or not. Maybe I'm influenced by the video, but I think of "rock cock" as Lindsey too.

The song is perfection any way you look at it...but if we can eliminate DH from the "undoing the laces" lyric (one of my two favorite parts of the whole song) it becomes even more perfect. LOL...now that I think of it...is there any way we can reason away any connection between any of Stevie's lyrics and any member of the Eagles??? Yes, ITA, especially when that new interview reminded me of how long the song was originally. I'm sure those verses were spread across quite a number of people. I'd wager very few of her songs are about any one person. A seed is planted that is, perhaps, inspired by something specific, but then it takes on a life of its own.

^I agree as well. Perhaps a song here and there was written about one thing or person but for the most part, her lyrics are influenced by multiple feelings/situations/people. Besides, I like that her songs are written in a way that allows us to come up with interesting interpretations of the lyrics...I think its fun. Its definitely much more enjoyable that trying to study for all of my anthropology classes. :p

Of course it's written about a ton of different things that were going on at the time. Sara says that when she first wrote it, there was a lot of different verses, but once they edited it down for Tusk, it lost a lot of what it was about. However, Sara is not saying that this song is totally about her, but after hearing her tell me the story, I think I can understand why Stevie named it "Sara", maybe. And of course there is parts about Mick, Stevie, and Sara. But the undoing the laces...HAHA, NOT about Don, you guys....very interesting story, though Stevie herself would have to tell it and I bet you she never does, lol.

LOL...noooooooo, not JW!! I don't want it to be about him :p
Even being the shipper that I am, I never thought it was about Lindsey. There's a tenderness to the lyric that makes it impossible for me to think it was about him...not that he doesn't have a softer side...it just doesn't sound like something that she would say about him. LOL...does that make sense to anyone??? I don't know how to explain it.
I never thought it was Mick either. I wouldn't have minded it being about him though...after my initial shock long ago of learning that they'd been together (because looking at them, they do seem like an unlikely couple), I kind of got used to the idea. I think its sort of sweet now. Still, like was mentioned before, the whole "he was singing" line made it completely unlikely.

It's about Giovanni, her one-time tailor.
A sad story, really. He was an aspiring opera singer in his native Italy. Tall, dark, handsome. Incredibly tender voice that could calm babies and make grown men weep into their linen handkerchiefs. And women! Please! There was swooning in the rehearsal halls.
But, alas, there was another aspiring opera singer...let's call him...Luciano...who had "connections" and an incredibly fiery temper (think a corpulant Lindsey), and Giovanni was no dummy. He gave up his beloved opera and joined the family business where he spent the rest of his life making incredibly frothy dresses for the filthy rich and eternally poetic.
So, while we all are looking for hidden meanings, Giovanni was literally singing while...undoing...the laces. Undoing the laces.
The moral of this tale? Sometimes a blue lamp is just a blue lamp.

I'm not trying to act like I know something and don't want anyone else to know who it is. I'm just saying, Sara said for you guys to think a little harder as to who it is.
But fine---since apparently The Ledge is a very "serious" board, screw it. I used to come in here all the time because it was fun and I'm not trying to tease anyone. Damnit--it's JD Souther.
But I'll never bring up another thing, ever again. I'll just continue to read what everyone else has to say and never add any input. If someone had guessed JD, I would have said it was him. But you guys get all super serious about stuff....

That is exactly what you did - Get off the cross
In the end - post away. I like your posts. Just don't act put upon when people ask you about some teaser thing that you brought up - and then act all huffy when people get a little miffed when you play with them. People call me on cr*p all the time. I get over it. Hopefully, you will too.
As for JD - I can see it - but don't want to believe it  He seems like such a jerk - at least he had that rap. Thanks for sharing this.

Everyone needs to cooooooooooool out!
I know, huh? I'm so cool, Alexa, haha. But you know this, man! I have a question before I do something....
Sara and I are thinking it would be very entertaining to start a reality thread called "My Life with Sara Fleetwood" lol, and we'll blog in it everyday about the random ass stuff we do...cus together....we do pretty dumb things, but it's hysterical, at least, I think it is. Like today....cleaning out her closet...FUUNNNNYYYY.
So my question is: should I post a thread about this? Or does anyone have a problem with it. Like, will I get badgered for it? or will people actually want to read it? Cus if it's gonna piss someone off for any reason, we definitely won't do. But we just had this idea of randomly blogging about our day and posting pics and stuff on the Ledge...cus there are tons of Mac stuff just laying around this house....Stevie's gurdles...you know, stuff like that...that I somehow find myself putting on for NO REASON lol, and then regretting it.
So before I post.....input? Would anyone even care?

I think you and Sara would have to be very careful about what you post. Anything remotely negative about the Mac will inevitably cause a sh*t storm. I know others will disagree, but I've seen it happen too many times. If your just talking about everyday life, and oh we found this or that would be fine and possibly interesting. Basically think a long the lines of is this something I would want someone to post about me online and go from there.

One way or another it doesn't bother me, but if your intention is to just blog about your day etc.. why not just set up a blog.. They're free and there no different in terms of posting.. You could provide a link. This way, you're free to post what ever your heart desires... cause it's your blog.

No. Why would we post anything negative? I just meant we'd make a thread like about the interesting, stupid situations we get ourselves in. Not to mention, I'm always picking up something around the house and then Sara will say "Oh, that was Stevie's" or there are thousands of pictures and all kinds of old things that I think people would like to see. Nothing incriminating. Just stuff to share. Sara would never say anything negative about the Mac, nor would I. We love them. We are fans, haha.

I think you should start that thread. And, no one is going to badger you if you come across as shooting straight. But, if you fill it with innuendo, etc., people will call you on it. This is not that complicated a deal

brysondt, I know you think we're all so "serious" but there's been a history of people on the board that have come on and posted that they know something, or have something, but won't share. It leaves the rest of us wondering, well why did you post anything in the first place? If you're not like that then cool.
As for your thread idea, I'm sure there are plenty here who would enjoy it and read it, I've no clue though if you do really know Sara Fleetwood or how you know her. I'm a bit confused by it all tbh.

I didn't mean to imply that the ledge was a too serious for such a thing, I was giving you a way/option to avoid any possible badgering... Cause what one person might find interesting or amusing, another might take some sort of offensive... And you seemed to want to avoid that... That's all.:wavey:

The most I ever remember hearing her say about him was that they "had a good time" or something like that...and now that I think of it, that may not have been about him specifically but about the time period in general. Doesn't sound very exciting. I guess you never know what goes on behind closed doors though :p

It's funny, I think a lot of people have that reaction but he's so closely linked with The Eagles I've often wondered why he isn't better known. For my money his first two solo albums, John David Souther and Black Rose, are better than anything The Eagles ever did. He released his first album of new material for 24 years last year, If The World Was You. I'd recommend his early stuff over that though.

I can agree with you that people have choices about what they choose/not choose to read on this board. Accordingly, people have a right to their opinions. Personally, I think it's all fine and dandy that people come on here to post their personal brushes with FM-related people. And I think it's really cool that people are willing to share whatever inside dirt they have obtained. But it's seriously douchey to come on here and go around saying "I know something you don't, and I ain't tellin'. Nyeh nyeh nyeh!" and then act all offended when people call her on her bullsh*t. Personally, I don't know this person, but I have come to the conclusion that I couldn't give two sh**s about her as a person or her personal antics. If she has cool information or music to share with us, that would be fantastic. But otherwise I don't want to watch a couple of grown women acting stupid (that is, unless there are lots of slo-motion shots of Sara's firm breasts and long legs).

But from what I remember, nobody was being rude in the beginning. It wasn't until you started the whole "I know something you don't know!" thing that people got annoyed. You were the one who said you were going to tell us a ton of stuff, but then all you did was wave vague facts in our faces. Well--I'm not sharing anything because all of a sudden people got really rude and mean. I don't care whether people believe I know or live with her. I asked her if I could share some stuff on here, and she's totally cool with it, but screw it. Why would I give you guys stuff now that everyone has been really rude??? I seriously am a nice person and I like to contribute on The Ledge whenever and however I can, but when people jump on me like this, how excited should I be to give them what they want?
Bryson, I don't really know you but I do know from Sara's FB that you do actually know her which is cool. I don't know if this has been discussed here at all but I would like to know how Stevie and Sara met.
I have read Carol Ann's book that touches on how Sara and Stevie met but I was wondering if there was any truth to it.
If you do have a blog about your adventures I would be interested in reading it.

She's talked about it on her Facebook. She said that they occaisonally speak and that she'll always love Carol Ann. However, I got the impression that Sara did not like some aspects of the book (yes, she did read it). She apparently "took her in alot" but she never saw any proof of physical altercations between Lindsey and her. "Marks, nothin." Apparently Carol Ann is doing well.

Yes, ITA, especially when that new interview reminded me of how long the song was originally. I'm sure those verses were spread across quite a number of people. I'd wager very few of her songs are about any one person. A seed is planted that is, perhaps, inspired by something specific, but then it takes on a life of its own.

I so agree... As most of us know, 'Sara' started out over 16 minutes long... Stevie's song "Sara" was NOT written only about nor was NOT named after Sara Fleetwood. It was mainly written about several people that were in Stevie and Fleetwood Mac's "inner circle" at the time it was written. It was also about Mick Fleetwood, where Stevie refers to "the great dark wing"... And parts of the song were about Don Henley who she was dating at the time... And the song was mainly named after her Great Aunt Sara.
Here is a link where Stevie explains in her own words through different articles and interviews about writing "Sara"...
www.inherownwords.com/sara.htm
Here are some of the articles below:
Sara was my favorite [song] ~ for that kind of song. Sara was, and is, the love of my life. There are different kinds of favorites. You have your miserable favorites and your happy favorites. I can't pick just one [song].
~Stevie Nicks, Arizona Living Magazine, September 1983
Sara was pretty much about Mick. So, he was the 'great dark wing'. And, ah, it was about everything that was going on at that particular time, too, but he was the, the reason for the, you know, the beginning of it.
~Stevie Nicks, MTV Fanatic, 1998
Sara [is my most personal song] It's about myself, and what all of us in Fleetwood Mac were going through at the time. The true version of that song is 16 minutes long. It's a saga with many verses people haven't heard.
~Stevie Nicks, Us magazine, July 1990
[On who Sara is] Probably my alter ego, my other self.
~Stevie Nicks, Montreal Interview
I wrote Sara on the piano, by myself. The original Sara was 16 minutes long. Like about nine more verses than what you hear on the record. It got edited down to 14 minutes, down to 11 minutes, down to 9 minutes, down to 7 minutes, down to 4 minutes and 40 seconds. I was to the point where I went, 'Is the word Sara even going to be left in the song?'
I knew that Sara would be very popular because I loved writing that song. I've had more fun writing that...I remember the night I wrote it. 'I sat up with a very good friend of mine whose name is Sara, who was married to Mick Fleetwood. She likes to think it's completely about her, but it's really not completely about her. It's about me, about her, about Mick, about Fleetwood Mac. Its about all of us at that point. There's little bits about each one of us in that song and when it had all the other verses it really covered a vast bunch of people. Sara was the kind of song you could fall in love with, because I fell in love with it...
~Stevie Nicks, Tommy Vance show, May 1994
[On whether the line in the song Sara, 'When you build your house, I'll come by' is about Don Henley, whom she was dating at the time?] (laughs) That is true. He did [build the house]. And I was in it before he finished it.
~Stevie Nicks, Us magazine, July 1990
If I ever have a little girl I will name her Sara. It's a very special name to me. I love singing it on stage. It's the absolute delight of my night. There's so much in Sara. And it is ~ the poet in my heart, for sure.

Hi everyone...My name is Jim...I haven't been around in so long as I have my own website and have been working with my best friend from my showbiz days...my Beverly Hills neighbor, Lydia Cornell. Her book is done...and it was and is a very big deal. I'm so proud of her. From her "Too Close For Comfort Days" to playing a part in everything...her passion is now writing...as is mine...and we've been friends for almost 22 years. Anyway, my site is about Spirituality, Politics, Miracles, Recover and Blessings. The reason I wrote this piece is that I know some have contacted me but I've been busy freelancing and such as mentioned. BTW Lydia tells me a story about being at a Warren Zevon? sp? party and Stevie was in the basement...a little out of it...singing karaoke...Ah, to be a fly on the wall...
When I listen to the words of Sara, Goodbye Baby, Storms, When I See You Again...I think of the child Stevie always yearned for...or even maybe lost. Don Henley talks about "Sara" being his child that Stevie was carrying that she lost...she did say, "...yeah, it was about Don's House...and when he finished building it I moved in for a couple of years..." something very close to that effect. I remember her and Mick's ramblings about Sara...and he would roar into his driveway with one of his cars...And Stevie does say it's encompasses that whole, "TIMESPACE" of Rumors to Tusk...etc..
Here are some of the words from Sara...and some of the songs above that bring me to this conclusion...
Sara
"wait a minute, "baby" stay with me a while"
"...well there's a heartbeat...and it never really dies..."
"...but now it's gone...it doesn't matter anymore..."
"...it ALWAYS matters what for..."
I hear in these words the "baby's heartbeat, again...and that it never "really dies" and even though it's gone...and perhaps it was said that it "doesn't matter anymore"...she counters with, "it's ALWAYS matters what for..."
In her words of, "wait a minute baby, stay with me awhile..." I hear that literally...kind of like, "Sara...don't go..."
GoodBye Baby
"Don't take me to the Tower...and take my child away...
Twas I who was...the hourglass...and the sands of time...
Went shattering past...like a tunnel to the sea...
And I who went to sleep as 2 woke up as one...
Now only YOU remain..."
This sounds like she lost her child...and she didn't want to go to the Tower (maybe Cedars Sinai...a "tower" like hospital" and a womans figure is an hourglass...and the shattering glass that went past must have been pain...maybe she was put under anistesia and when she woke she was no longer with child...but with "YOU" the guy in her life.
"Goodbye Baby....I hope your hearts not broken...dont' forget about me...yes I was outspoken...you were with me all of the time...and I'll be with you one day..." The fact that she's always yearned for a daughter had been a feeling with her all of the time...now that she perhaps lost a child, Maybe she named her, Sara, like Don Henley said...and in her spirituality she prays the baby's heart isn't broken...or sad...and not to forget her...becasue she'll see her in Heaven...or On The Other Side...
Storms
"...as you slowly go away from me...this is ONLY ANOTHER DEATH..." Some say the lyric is "test" and not "death" I think it's death...and she lost the relationship with perhaps the father...or maybe just some guy...and to her it's, just only another, "sorrow for sorrow".
When I See You Again
Just the lines repeating, "what's the matter, baby?" She echoes this through out the song, "when I see you again" which is a lyric used in tons of her songs alone...maybe she was asking that to the child she lost while in her womb...
There are a ton more. I'm NOT saying Stevie aborted children...although Don Henley reported that Sara was his baby that they "aborted"...and even this weird interview before Timespace when Steve lived in on of the Encino places...she "burst into tears" blah blah blah...and cried, "...and those babies coundn't be born because of my career..." The interview sounds like a fraud...
Unless we hang with her for sometime...who knows? When I hear a Stevie song that I love and connect with it...and especially if I find the words pertain to me...and that I totally get it...as much as I dig Stevie and her 'funny little voice' the song's words and melody take me away into this twilight thing and I relate...understand...and think I really get the story...and that's what supposed to happen to a listener or a reader of great, great Story Tellers...like Stevie is.
And please...I hope you read this...you probably won't share the same interpretations...I just hope you don't knock me down and start jumping up and down...
Just saying...
God bless you all.
Jim
