Hey everyone! Later today on MTV2, they will be airing a documentary called 'Darius Goes West' in honor of Darius's 20th birthday! I attented high school with Darius. He really is one of the sweetest guys you could ever meet. We even became buddies in a graphic design class we had together my junior year... Anyway he suffers from DMD (read below) so he and some friend made a documentary about his journey to California in 2005 and it's going to air at 12:00 est time. Everyone should check it out if they have time!

(This is from his website daruisgoeswest.org) In 2005, Darius Weems, and his eleven best friends left their hometown of Athens, GA. They set a course for California, where Darius hoped to raise awareness for his disease, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), by convincing MTV to customize his wheelchair on the hit show, Pimp my Ride. DMD is the number one genetic killer of children in the world. The viewers of Pimp My Ride represent the age group that lives and dies with DMD, and the generation that scientists believe will discover a cure for this disease. Thanks to the relentless support of DGW supporters across the country, Darius’ journey will come full circle when MTV broadcasts the film next Sunday.* And the day is special for Darius for other reasons…. On September 27th, 2009, Darius’ twentieth birthday, and the last day of DGW’s year long tour, both MTV2 and MTVU will broadcast Darius Goes West to over 80 million homes. The broadcast comes as a result of Darius and crew being honored for their tireless advocacy at the prestigious 2009 Do Something Awards.

wow was this an inspiring show & i thank you for telling us about it~ darius is such an awesome kid, i just love him to pieces~ & to see his friends rally around him like they did, so he could see the country was so awesome, seeing these days considering all the bad you see on the news anymore~ i cried & i laughed & i laughed so hard i cried~ this was sucha neat story & i feel blessed to have seen darius's tell it~

i can't believe mtv were such chicken ****s when it came to pimping his wheelchair~ i won't watch "pimp my ride" anymore, the last letter they sent just really didn't sit well w/ me, knowing this poor teen probably won't be here much longer seeing how bad DMD can be & they did nothing~ but the lambo shop that did pimp his wheelchair, what an awesome bunch of folks & his wheelchair was rockin'~

my heart goes out to darius, his mother & siblings, my heartbreaks that he lost his brother to the same disease~ but what a huge heart he has & to not want to be pitied but to just live life, is a message we could all take w/ us~

thanx again for the heads up~ great show~

Awww, I'm so happy you enjoyed it! I love when Daniel decided to drive into the tornado and Darius and crew go to the set of Desperate Housewives. Those scenes are so funny. I love the entire documentary, it's so well done. Darius is so awesome and talanted and I'm so happy MTV finally shared this with the world... It's about time!

do you know how he is doing healthwise?, is he still able to get out?~ i just wanted to hug darius, the way he looks at life & the way his friends said they knew he probably wouldn't be here for a cure, but that darius knew that, but wanted to help others by getting out there & speaking of DMD & how so many places aren't accessible to people in wheelchairs & the like~

i loved when they went to the set of desperate housewives too, i watch the show & was so glad to see felicity wearing a darius goes west tshirt & all they did for darius & his friends~ & driving into the tornado was hysterical, they made it feel like you were right there w/ them~

once again, thanx for telling us~ i dreamed about darius, because i couldn't get this show out of my mind~ i am having my husband watch it w/ me this weekend~
