This has been on Amazon as long as I can remember:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wild-Heart-Autobiographical-Stevie-Nicks/dp/0385189877/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1253795876&sr=1-17

I think this book was going to come out, it obviously had a publisher and went as far as having an ISBN number and release date but was pulled. It sounds like it would have been great. Maybe she re-considered or there were legal problems or something. Someone needs to ask Stevie about it.

Thank you so much for posting this interview. I've been asking for years if anyone had the rest of this interview and you just provided another large section,
Too bad the book never came out and thank you Sister Honey.
I always thought this was conducted inside the MTV studios, never would have guessed it was her house, or did she say it was her mother's house?
Right near the end of the interview I heard a plane flying by.

These interviews would be 1984. They played 'em on MTV, as you know.

There have been a bunch of times Stevie has sworn to write a book. Even the people around her do that -- Herbert Worthington was going to publish a coffee-table book of Stevie Nicks photos through the old Museum of Rock Art at around this same time.

I must have passed into the dark realm of disenchanted fan, because watching this interview just makes me angry, and incites a lot of eye rolling . I guess we at least have proof from 25 years ago that she has always been "too busy" to do anything artistically new, and that she makes a lot of empty promises. I must say I did get a good giggle at the interviewer thinking that her new drawings were done when she was a little kid .

I don't think she has the attention span right now to write a book! that would be way too much 'work' for her...

Cheyne, thank you so much for posting this video. I've never seen it before. Stevi e certainily looks interesting, if not beautiful. And louie I don't know what your talking about. While it was never released, it sounds like there was a lot of thought put into the book for your fans. I really believe that Stevie was in love with her fans the most during the WH period. You can tell from the live concerts, and interviews like these. In 1984 she was busy with RAL, which we know ended up being a long process. It's a vaild excuse. You have vaild points for 2009 Stevie, but 1984? Sheeeeeeessss channnnggggeeeddddd!

and how many albums have YOU put out??? ;)

I just watched all four parts of this video, and I thought it was great!!

Stevie made many good points, and she was quirky (as usual) in someplaces, but overall, it was a great interview.

Just a side thought--the book thing made me think of when she said someone had stolen all her demos and stuff...does anyone know the details of the heist? The who, what, when ,where?? Just wondering.

Interesting interview, Stevie looks beautiful as always. That book sounded like it would have been a great read, it's a shame it's not our there for the public.

I think what put me off most about this interview was her bloated sense of self worth. Lord, she was in LOVE with herself in that interview! She was acting like her kiddy scribblings were world class art. I think the interview just gives me more perspective on who she REALLY is, and that she's not so different now as she was 25 years ago ("nothing ever changes, no it doesn't"). Arguably in 1984 she was TONS busier, she probably had a legit reason why the book was never published. But the song just sounds so very familiar. We were supposed to have a Rhiannon movie and Goldfish and Ladybug book 30 years ago, a Wild Heart Book 25 years ago, and we've been strung along for 8 years waiting for another solo album, 6 years for a new Mac one. And just how difficult would it be to release Buckingham Nicks?? I'm totally leaving the autobiography off the table here, because I just don't think she's interested in telling all. It just seems all the potential and momentum that was generated by the Dance reunion has simply been wasted, and it's such a shame. She's clean and sober for the first time in her life, she's taking better care of her voice, she's writing wonderful songs, but all of it goes unused. I just hate it :(.

You ain't kidding buddy. She even had her bro design concert t-shirts of these. I think it was for the Enchanted Tour?

I always thought it looked like the painting of a second grader.

Its a shame she really couldn't have prioritized things much better.....in a way so that she'd gotten 'more' out. It was possible.....but we all know the drugs/drinking got in the way. I do like this early video...early RAL period is about all I can take....or could we say MM interview since well it was to have been MM....anyway....it showed how she really changed from what '84 to '86....more big hair/etc....her voice changed alot than too.....I like how her voice sounds too cause it sorta reminds me of some BD interviews....I like her hair here too much better than the later RAL stuff.....but sorry....I'm not a RAL lover either....I can handle some stuff better than others....(I don't like Tango either....ugh)....but to each his own really.....we all like what we like.....and theres nothing wrong with that either......I have not ever seen this part of the interview. I always remember the MTV woman in rock int. but it was so short. Its cool how she does show a painting though.....that one is kinda 'dark' to me though....but thats my interpretation of it anyway.......thanks for sharing......yeah, the book would've been great......sad it wasn't ever 'finished'.....like many of the 'other' projects through all the yrs........sad but true.......:nod:

Thanks for posting! I thought it was a pretty good interview. I would love to have read that book. As for the rest of it, no reason to take the whole thing so seriously IMO...so she liked her painting and wanted to share it. Art is art regardless...some people will love it others will hate it. I thought it was pretty good. LOL...and there is a lot of very famous art out there that looks like a kid painted it. ;)

Jeffrey Christ always seems to come up with some very interesting and rare postings. I've never seen this part of the interview before.

Stevie looks, and IS incredibly bewitching here!

As for the book, maybe she realized that it would be one not completely finished. She had more to say. Her life's story was not done yet. I'd rather have a complete book rather than one with just a few chapters. As we all know, there was a lot more to write about than just what happened up to 1984. I think we'll get that book, and a much more complete book than the one we would have gotten then.

Thanks for posting the video EnchantedKiwi!

I wonder if this was filmed before or after Stevie broke up with Joe? The way she answered the love question made me think after because she didn't really go into detail.

What was the name of the planned book in the mid 1990s? Mark & Brian asked Stevie about it in 1994, I think (& she pretended to know nothing about it)?

"Stories, Poems, & Drawings"?
"Stories, Songs, & Poems"?
"Poems, Paintings, & Prozac"?

Something like that?

I think it was that third one.

Anyway, the uploader has this video dated as August of 85. That can't be though because Stevie is not talking like it is 85. From how she talks it sounds like Jimmy is still in the picture.

I have my bets on late 1984. Stevie doesn't look how she did in the "Rock A Little" era. Her speaking voice is not like how it is on some of the 1985/6 videos, for example the Molly Meldrum interview. I'd be really surprised if this was actually mid-1985.

Right, when I said speaking voice I meant in the context of her life. Jimmy left before RAL was finished, and I got the impresion he was still a part of her life during this interview. Also she said RAL was not right yet and she spent a lot of time trying to find out why. RAL came out on 11/18/85. Stevie doesn't know when RAL was going to be released during this interview, so I'm sure it can't be just three months before the album was released.

Yes she looks basically the same as she did at the Purple Rain premiere and that was in July '84, her hair seems a bit longer so I'm going with somewhere in the fall of '84.

She's been showing the same few painting's since 1981 passing them off as new. They all look ametuerish and I used to be tickleish.

I knew what you meant. I'm saying her voice sounded different later, like more gravelly. Here it still sounds slightly "Bella Donna"-ish, like someone mentioned. I agree with what you said though, she doesn't even know what the single is. If the album was nearly due for release, all preparations would be on promoting the single and album.

Thank you for posting this video EK. I actually liked seeing the drawing--she sees Sister Honey as some sort of angelic 3 dimensional being. I'd love to watch this video with Stevie today and get her take on how she saw herself at that time. If she puts a book out, I'm sure it will have some pictures that she has drawn--other illustrations of songs she has worked on. I'd love to see it.

Anyway, the uploader has this video dated as August of 85. Pieces of this profile aired on MTV in 1984. I remember specifically the "I rocked in my cradle fer sher" line & the bit about Prince being influenced by Stevie's fashions.

It was the year she was supposed to have toured the United States with Julian Lennon as opening act. She was expected to co-headline with David Bowie at the Anaheim Angels Stadium earlier that year, but she canceled her tour to pull her album together.

I know people love to make comments about how ****ed up Stevie looks/sounds in every interview and performance from this period and I think they're usually dead wrong, but I think this interview is one of the rare instances where it can pretty legitimately be said that she's just cracked out. She looks amazing and sounds basically coherent, but her tense, almost paranoid, facial expressions, the way she moves her mouth and keeps looking down and away from the interviewer/camera and the general low-grade anxiety and defensiveness and her inability or lack of interest in picking up the threads the interviewer is feeding her — not to mention the fact that she says she's been "up for days" — it all signals coke bender to me.

Stevie is always intense and serious in interviews, but she's usually passionate, thoughtful and creative. She's really flatlining here.

Yes, I read all the ramblings. If you actually watch Part 1 of the interview video, the first question asked is this: "What can you tell me about your new album, Rock-A-Little?"
Is that so hard? Sheesh.

Stevie herself tells the world in several interviews that she toured Wild Heart in 1984 & Rock a Little in 1985. People make mistakes -- even about their own lives & work. I can't remember whether my appendix ruptured when I was 10 or 11, so I just tell doctors "I was 10 or 11."

MTV aired parts of this same interview in 1984. I think I still have my old VHS with those parts on it. It had bits of Cyndi Lauper, Annie Lennox, & Stevie Nicks. Nicks says that Prince borrowed some of Stevie's ideas for stage clothes for his own act.

I did watch part 1 - and 2 and 3 and 4 for that matter. Just because she was asked that question doesn't mean RAL was out yet. Stevie had the idea of RAL as early as 1983.

She didn't even know anything about a single yet. Jimmy Iovine is still working with her. She still doesn't know when the album is coming out. These three things can't be going on 3 months before the album was released.

edit: and as David says, he saw the video itself in 1984.

In part 4, she also mentions she didn't want anyone thinking about how she didn't do anything for a year and a half. The Wild Heart wrapped at the end of 1983...so again...it points to about August 11, 1985 to be about right.

This was the interview where Stevie said she loved Cyndi. (especially the Money Changes Everything video with the trash can bit) Pretty cool, since Stevie was considered a seasoned star by that time, where Cyndi was just hitting the big time.

That's because her home was not far from Sky Harbor Airport.

Interestingly, her "Sister Honey" drawing looks a LOT like her Rhiannon one finished in October 1982 (after Robin's death).

It aired in 1984. What else can I say?

"She's says the skies not crying, he said the sky is blue"

Are you saying that it aired in 1984 because David said 1984? With all due respect to David, he is not the grand pooba of all things Stevie Nicks.

I still think it's 1985. Maybe not August, but sometime in 1985. In Part 4, Stevie is asked about working with Fleetwood Mac after this tour (Rock-A-Little). Stevie answers "she thinks they're going into the studio in July".
Now this is weird, as Tango In The Night started the gears rolling with Christine McVie's recording of 'Can't Help Falling In Love" for the "A Fine Mess Soundtrack", which released in 1986. She also mentions their are plans to start with Fleetwood Mac. Or was it July in 1986?

If it was 1984, it seems strange that an entire year passed before Rock-A-Little even released (which was November 18, 1985) and the lead single (Talk To Me) released October 28, 1985. It just seems the album was for the most part completed and the tour at least initially planned. If this interview as the Summer in 1985, there was more than enough time to plan everything and film the video before the end of October. Besides in 1984, wasn't Rock-A-Little called Mirror, Mirror? We already know the interview said your new album "Rock-A-Little" in Part 1.
Seriously, I'm not arguing with you just to argue or to show I'm right, you're wrong. I'm just not buying 1984, unless someone can prove it and not flap "memory" lip.

I still think it's 1985. Maybe not August, but sometime in 1985.Maybe the very beginning of 1985? But I swear I have VHS of the Women in Rock stuff from 1984 -- I don't remember when in 1984. Maybe that was right at the end of the year.

Or was it July in 1986?I noticed that. It couldn't have been July 1986, because by August 28, 1986, at the big shindig at Long Beach Sports Arena, Lindsey told the audience that the work they had already done on the album constituted "the best thing we've ever done." Assuming Fleetwood Mac started recording at the time Stevie expected them to, I think she was talking about July 1985.

"A Fine Mess" was released in July 1986, so it's not extraordinary that Chris & Lindsey & Mick recorded their song at the very beginning of 1986 or even the end of 1985. That would mean that the band was about six months late getting started on Tango -- not hard to believe.

Stevie also mentioned wanting to go play clubs, but she did play some clubs in 1985, including the club up the coast with Les Dudek. Why didn't she mention that in the interview? She sang Talk to Me there, so that song was probably among the batch for Rock a Little Marque #1.

If it was 1984, it seems strange that an entire year passed before Rock-A-Little even released (which was November 18, 1985) and the lead single (Talk To Me) released October 28, 1985.But that album was notorious for the holdup. Everyone kept expecting it & it kept getting pushed back. Jim Ladd told Stevie on the telephone in October 1985: "I didn't think I was going to live long enough to see this album," & Stevie replied, "You & me, too."

The "more than a year" makes sense if it's late 1984. The 2nd album was out the door by spring 1983, & Stevie could have started recording the third one either on the road or in November right after. From November 1983 to November or December 1984 (or January 1985) makes over a year. And that's only Stevie's loose way with words anyway. At first she says over a year, & then she says a year & a half.

It just seems the album was for the most part completed and the tour at least initially planned.I don't get the impression the album was for the most part completed from this interview. I get the impression that Rock a Little Marque #1 may have been in the can, but Rock a Little Marque #2 was still to come: new producers & a largely new batch of songs.

Besides in 1984, wasn't Rock-A-Little called Mirror, Mirror? We already know the interview said your new album "Rock-A-Little" in Part 1.Maybe it was called "Mirror Mirror" when she first started talking about it, but she also said early on that she had written a song about how her Marina del Rey condo shook every time waves crashed on the beach, & how that was going to be the title song of her next album.

Seriously, I'm not arguing with you just to argue or to show I'm right, you're wrong. I'm just not buying 1984, unless someone can prove it and not flap "memory" lip.Not conclusive proof, either, but there's a photo going around (maybe Sanne can dig it up) of Stevie onstage with Tom Petty at the Heartbreakers' gig in Tempe AZ in July 1985, which really shows a difference in Stevie between what we see here & what we see onstage. She looks about twenty pounds heavier, for one, & she has a second or third chin. (I can vouch for the weight gain because I saw her in September 1985 in a concert.)

Thanks for the cool discussion, Macsters!

I don't have anything else to say - I think David backed up his 1984 claim quite well. He makes a good point - Stevie did look heavier in 85. The women in rock thing makes sense too - she talked about how it was a good year for music, one of the mentions was Lauper. She had a hit (I forgot which song) in 84.

I still wonder about the Mirror thing - I don't know if it was ever called Mirror Mirror - or if that was just a title a fan gave some of those RAL bootlegs.

Anyway this seems to be 1984, I think we can be almost sure. Just because the uploader said it was 85 doesn't mean it's right.

Yeah, I do not think it is August 1985, but certainly earlier in 1985, especially with the time frames she discusses. As for the weight gain, she is starting to look puffy in the face in this interview. Stevie is 5'1, so putting on weight is super easy for her. Damn, I gained 15 lbs in 1 month once and I'm 6'0! She discusses the Cyndi Lauper video 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun', since Stevie mentions Cyndi had her Father in the video. She also discusses Christine McVie's videos, especially 'Love Will Show Us How', both released mid 1984. But even in early or mid 1985, you would still be talking about those videos, especially since they were discussing women in rock as a year hadn't even passed.
If it was 1984, it was very late in the year. If 1985, early.
I found these air dates for Women in Rock:
MTV Women In Rock, interview segment 4/19/85
MTV Continuation of Women In Rock, 7/20, 8/2,8/16,8/23,9/13

I still also think it's '84...cause of look/voice etc. She doesn't look like she did in '85-86 to me & her voice is also different too. Her hair also looks nice in this interview compared to '85-86....it was much more out of control if you ask me. (not Stevie's best look but thats IMO)...but to each his or her own. I know or recall that during a the OSOTM interview (promo) she mentions in that that the orginial title for RAL was to have been Mirror,Mirror but that she didn't like how the song turned out so than RAL became the lead song ...than it was changed to RAL. I know I have RAL interviews (one with Jim Ladd) but I'd have to relisten to it again for I don't recall the interview right now(what was said that is). I just know that Stevie confirmed that RAL pre title was MM during the '89 Mirror interview. Hope this isn't confusing? Don't mean to be...........Personally, I love the song MM so I'm not sure why she didn't like it.....its one of my favorites......

These three things can't be going on 3 months before the album was released.

edit: and as David says, he saw the video itself in 1984.Actually, in an interview she states that she had the RAL song before BD came out. Which what would make that maybe '80? It must be a RAL interview.....sorry I can't back my claim up......I don't recall....if anyone knows the interview please help out. Thanks.......(esp after hearing the RAL demo with Mick....her voice sounds very BD like in it.....)

In an interview shortly after the realease of Bella Donna when she was living in a condo near the ocean in Marina Del Rey she stated "I wrote a song about how this house shakes every time the waves crash" It doesn't take too much of a leap to presume that song was "Rock a Little"
