Sadly The Eagles won the last poll with 14 votes
Next Tom Petty vs Bruce Springsteen, with two classic 70s albums.
Once again please vote and post who you voted for and why.

I voted for Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuce. Tom Petty annoys and bores me.
I wouldn't mind someone posting a bootleg of the show Bruce & The E Street Band did this past week where he performed the Born to Run album in it's entirety.;)

love them both...
but I had to go with Tom in the end.

I grew up with his music.
In fact, he was probably my first favorite singer...when I was about 7 my dad used to play his music in the car.
That started it all for me. I still love him almost 15 years later!

I had to go with Tom on this one....to me, his album is more of a classic. I can't really think of any Bruce Springsteen songs except for "born in the usa" (right? that's a springsteen song, right?)
-Might be my problem though, I need to experience more Springsteen to appreciate him.

Tom Petty!
I was watching some show on Classic VH1 and Tom Petty was talking about how he opened for Bruce one time and while he was still doing his set, the crowd kept booing him. He couldn't figure out what was going on. Well the booing was actually them yelling "BRUUUUUUUCE" hahaha poor Tom! I love him.

It's weird. All my favorite people are creepily connected to each other. Fleetwood Mac --> Stevie --> Don Henley/The Eagles --> Tom Petty --> Eric Clapton

The Eagles winning the last poll is unfortunate, as much as I like them!

This is a really hard one but my immediate instinct wins out and so I had to go with The Boss on this. I think Tom Petty is fantastic and Damn The Torpedoes is an excellent album but I just love Born To Run. After all, he is The Boss!

This is an easy one for me. I love TP and, well, I don't like Bruce. At all. His music is just so grating to me. I'm probably one of the few people that don't like Bruce.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. No contest.

I thought there couldn't be a harder choice than Bob vs the Beach Boys :( After much deliberation, I flipped a coin. It told me Born to Run. I'm okay with that. Born to Run has more genuine feeling in it than Damn the Torpedos, if not as many radio friendly tracks.

(and the title track is my anthem :o )

This is definitely true! Born In The USA is actually not one of his best and has been constantly misinterpreted since it was released. If you want to check out some of his stuff then albums to go for are The Wild, The Innocent and the E-Street Shuffle, Born To Run, Darkness on the Edge of Town and Nebraska.

Yes, yes, yes on BTR & DOTEOT (his twin masterpieces), and, begrudingly, N (it's brilliant of course, but not my kinda thing), but do not forget his best 80s albums: THE RIVER! and TUNNEL OF LOVE!!

My very very very personal favorite Boss song is "Tougher Than The Rest" from TOL.

I voted for Bruce since we didn't own the Petty album.

My younger brother had Born to Run and we seemed to hear it non-stop....along with Rumours.

He worked at the grocery store and had more money than me.

He bought all the albums, so I guess my vote is his vote....

Well, at least y'all are getting one of these right!

I went with Damn the Torpedoes! since I think Bruce Springsteen (much like U2) is for the most part vastly overrated. If you'd picked Born in the USA instead of Born to Run, I'd have had to have thought about it, since that's the only album of his I genuinely like and can listen to.

My favorite Springsteen album is The River. That's his Tusk album as far as I am concerned.

My favorite Springsteen album is The River. That's his Tusk album as far as I am concerned.

Its in my top three (the other two being "Tunnel of Love" & "Wild/Innocent/E Street Shuffle").

Most Springsteen fans put "Born In The USA" in the bottom tier, mainly due to the overall lack of real substance compared to his other efforts. Bruce unabashedly (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAmDmdMKB7g) & shamelessly (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qM6TuZ6lSWI) did everything he could to make the most commercial album/cultivate the populist "working man" image he's known for... and he certainly succeeded. I can't blame him for that. Just don't judge him based on that one album- good or bad.

I voted for Tom Petty based on my musical tastes. Yet did Bruce have a chance in this face-off considering the Nicks/Petty music relationship? :D

I own Springsteen's first three albums, and "Nebraska". I haven't heard them in years, and I don't feel I need to now. After watching the four hour Tom Petty documentary ("Running Down a Dream") almost two years ago, I've gained high respect for a musician I already admired.

I'm the opposite of others. I never got tom petty. I just hear average tunes that don't have a unique style and could be by any artist from that time.

springsteen's music is about so much more tho for me. Its like a movement. I like most of his albums but actually like Magic the most cause its like a return to his earlier stuff but with a matured outlook.

Well, if you'd rather I said I don't like him in general, think he's overrated and sings like he's trying to have a bowel movement, I can certainly do that. ;) Tho I do remember liking Tunnel of Love an awful lot, too.

My favorite song on Born in the USA was the only track never released as a single: Bobbie Jean.
I waited, but it never happened. They released all the others, why not that one?

Speaking of BORN TO RUN:

From Bruce Springsteen.net

BORN TO RUN IN CHICAGO 9/21
Either you were at the show in Chicago last night or you are probably wishing you were there: smack in the middle of an epic set, Bruce and the Band played "Born To Run" in its entirety. But that ain't all: among the audience requests were two never-before-played oldies-but-goodies: The Crystals' "Da Doo Ron Ron" (Couldn't you just hear Bruce singing "I met him on a Monday and my heart stood still?") and "Rockin' Robin," a 1958 hit for Bobby Day and revived by Michael Jackson as one of his first singles as a solo recording artist. Let's not forget the late, great Ellie Greenwich, who co-wrote "Da Doo Ron Ron" with Jeff Barry and Phil Spector.

FORGOT TO MENTION: HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRUCE!!! HE TURNS 60 TODAY!

Hard one as I like both of them, but had to go with Tom Petty, simply because it wasn't one of Bruce's better albums in my opinion. Then again, it wasn't one of Tom's either.

While lifting weights at the gym tonight, I posed this "classic albums face off" question to 3 guys nearby. (A Petty song from Damn the Torpedoes was playing, which gave me the idea.)

Vincenzo, John and John all voted for Petty. I was the lone Springsteen vote. They told me to change my vote and then proceeded to tell me all the songs on the Petty album and why I should have voted for it. :o

this was HARD.

i picked DTT and i don't even know why. they are both wonderful albums, but i have been a fan of tom petty longer. that was the deciding factor, i'm sorry to say

I love and adore TP forever and always, but I had to go with Bruce. I've been celebrating his greatness a lot to the point that he's the only artist I'm listening atm. Anyway, I love this album. I saw him a few weeks back and he played it all the way through and it just reminds me of my dad and my childhood and everything really amazing. So he wins here for me, even if Tom is the coolest dude ever.

late to the party but glad to see tom won. damn the torpedoes isn't my favorite album of his but it still qualifies as great in my book.
