You have to buy it asap. I think it's Stevie's best record since The Wild Heart. Before anyone jumps up and down, I do love Rock A Little, Other Side of the Mirror and I like Street Angel, but for a run of one good song after another rather than just one or 2, Trouble In Shangri-La is the one.
If you've got The Soundstage Sessions then you must have heard Fall From Grace, one of the best racks on Trouble in Shangri-La. The only slightly dodgy track is That Made Me Stronger, otherwise it's all good!

I agree. It's actually one of my favourite Stevie albums, certainly the best thing she's done since the early 80s.

TISL is one of my favorite Stevie albums (one of my favorite albums period). Every song has this deep story to it. You can really feel her pain through some songs (ie: Love Is). A lot of the songs are really catchy and what I like is that they all don't sound the same. On some albums, for me, the songs sound so similar. You kinda go into a fog listening to it. For me, TISL shakes it up and kinda keeps me on my toes! Also, for me, there's always at least one song I skip. I don't skip any songs on this album. Get it! You'll really enjoy it!

I lovvvvvvvvve it
It never leaves my car...and I've got it on my computer and ipod, of course. There isn't a single song on it that I don't love...how many albums can you say that about??? Right now I would say that I have a preference for "Love Is" (its just so beautiful and telling) but my favorite track overall is Fall From Grace because its so kick @ss. I was a little skeptical of It's Only Love when I first heard about it because it was written by Sheryl and for some reason I always have this irrational avoidance at first of anything of Stevie's that has Sheryl in it (I think because she seems a little obsessed with Stevie)...but even that was realllllly gorgeous!

The album is outstanding, I think-- especially the first 4 and the last 4 songs. Imagine the modern edge of her SYW songs but (generally) lyrically and musically at a whole new level. I LOVE it.

I like TISL, but I don't think it's that great.
I prefer the '70s piano demo of "Planets of the Universe" over the version on the album.
I prefer "Nomad" and "Sorcerer" from the Buckingham Nicks-era over the version on the the album ("Candlebright" = "Nomad").
I prefer the demo version of "TISL" over the version on the album.
^Those statements might be because I kind of like raw Stevie without lots of instruments around. Sometimes it's nice to just zone out with her voice and piano.
However, I love love love "Love Is" and "I Miss You" and I actually kind of like "Too Far From Texas" I know it's not a favorite among most, but I kind of like it!

Definetly one of Stevie's best albums all the tracks are great she sounds awesome on all of the songs classic albums up there with Belladonna,The Wild Heart and the rest of her solo records. Its a must have in a stevie nicks collection.

dont want to piss anybody off...but i think i listened to it once and shelfed it..i think it is waaaayyyy over produced..it sounds nothing like her other material..i mean musically..i love the song lyrics of most of the songs but bella donna, wild heart sound so rough.... they just played, sang and recorded..the way it should be..rock a little got a little "trying to sound like mainstream" OSOTM was like her older stuff..love most of it..although a few odd tracks and i dont think "rooms on fire" was the best choice for a first single..i would have done "ooh my love"..." long way to go" or "ghosts"..."street angel"...a mess..but still some good material on that and i have said before..stevie could sing the "abc's" and "mary had a little lamb" and i would buy it...BUT TISL??? i just think its a weirdly overproduced (by cheryl crow..who i do love as well...but i wish she stayed w/iovine) and lacked the authentic sounding stevie nicks that i have always loved and still do..i am a loyal fan and i accept her wanted to change things...but wat i would do to go back to 1983 and watch her perform..i think that was the best show i ever saw and i probably have seen close to 2000 concerts in my 47 yrs on earth

I've never understood the poor reception this song gets. I love it! For me, it's one of the strongest tracks on the album. That could be because I'm a country fan but how can you not love Stvie with Natalie Maines?! The song just has such a catchy melody and the chorus is great!

TISL??? i just think its a weirdly overproduced. I am 47 yrs old.
My thoughts exactly, but I worded it a bit differently as you can see.

"Rooms on Fire" not a good choice for the first single from OSOTM?!:shrug:IMO it is one of the finest singles of her career and the last significant pop hit single by anyone in the Fleetwood Mac contingent here or in Europe. It should have charted higher than it's Billboard no.16 here but she and the Mac were on their way to a slide by then .As I recall it made number 12 in sales here and someone at Billboard was surprised that the airplay did not keep up with the sales when before she had recieved massive airplay .

Agreed. I like the demo versions of those first three significantly more than the album versions (although I do love "TISL" on the album). The "Planets of the Universe" piano demo could be my favorite Stevie demo ever. Those demos just make me wonder why those songs didn't show up on early albums when her voice could have carried them in the same way it did in those demos.... if she had tried to keep that raw feel on TISL, it wouldn't have worked, I think.

Good album! I'm still going through the albums being a newbie and all and I definently like this one. I think I can see the whole idea of it being overproduced though, alot of background compared to her earlier albums, on the other hand I think too much vibrato was used on her earlier stuff should have toned it down! Anymeow....good album! About to do a listen through on RAL.

She was just trying to make it as modern as possible, I think. Which I guess sells these days, especially if you're in the 50+ range and needing a new generation of fans.... again, its sad, but true.

I like "Trouble In Shangri-La". In terms of artistry, I think it's definitely up there with Stevie's most creative albums. It hasn't got the folk influences that her music generally has, or at least they're not as prominent. Also, the "epic" of the album - I consider this her title tracks generally, I love how she's basically kept up this tradition - is magnificent. What an amazing song to kick off the album with!

I agree. The songs are all strong but I with the exception of Love Changes and Love Is, the production is very heavy handed. And as I've said before, her voice doesn't sound all that great on most of the tracks...it sounds far better on the demos. I like TISL but it's certainlty not one of my favs and I really need to be in the mood to listen to it. I wish David Khane would have produced the whole record...I love his work on Love Changes.

Overall, I think TISL is pretty great, a few notches below Bella Donna and The Wild Heart. The title track is one of the best songs she's ever written. "It's Only Love" is one of the best vocals she's produced in recent years. The duds are Love Changes, That Made Me Stronger, and Every Day.

Yup. Eleven different studios were used in recording this album, by seven different producers (not including the person who actually produced "Bombay Sapphire", who was bought out and literally expunged from the record). My legitimate beefs with Kahne aside, there's still a legit reason why Kahne named himself Executive Producer for this album.

It's her most listenable thing since RAL, that's for sure. The middle of the album (and by the middle of the album, I mean That Made Me Stronger & Too Far from Texas) is pretty dreadful, but the first 5 songs and the last 6 are decent if not great.

Well personally I thought it was one of her better albums, beaten perhaps only by Bella Donna. Lots of people saying that The Wild Heart was better, though that is one of my least favourites of her releases. Then again, I'm a fan of TOSOTM so that just says it all....

Yes, if I don't put it #1, I would place it #2 behind Wild Heart. But it could be #1. I guess it depends on what day you ask. TISL took awhile to grow on me though, but grow it did.

I don't love this one either. But I DO love how much Stevie loves it. It's the only song left that she currently sings where you can see fire in her eyes. It's kinda like the Rhiannon of the 21st century. She's very proud of the song, and seems to perform it any chance she can. And when an artist is that proud of their work, that's a great thing. Especially for Stevie, since she seems to be struggling with musical insecurities the past 20 years.

I agree totally about FFG.
Except don't you mean Rhiannon from the 20th century cause this centuries Rhiannon's are nothing compared to those?

No, Rhiannon is to the 20th Century as Fall From Grace is to the 21st Century :D. It's her modern day exorcism song... the one where she gets really worked up and briefly unveils that old fire .
