I am reading Michael J. Fox's book Lucky Man. I bought Always Looking Up (his second) but since he refers to the first book a lot, I decided to stop and read it first.

If you are looking for a good book, funny, easy read and very positive and inspiring, get Lucky Man. I like how he talks about being thrown into the society of richandfamous and how it can mess with your head. (It reminded me of some of the quotes of FM about their first year, going from nothing to "money in pockets, money on tables, money everywhere.")

Just curious....Has anyone else read Lucky Man?

Oh My God. Betsy... you started a Michael J. Fox thread on a Fleetwood Mac board...2 of my favourite things brought together - thank you!!!

Michael is quite possibly my favourite actor ever and I've seen everything he's done. My favourites are The Hard Way, The Frighteners, Casualties of War and The American President. Not to mention Family Ties and the brilliance of Spin City! Life With Mikey and Greedy are best avoided though, ouch.

I've often felt he doesn't get his due as a really talented dramatic actor because of how good he is at comedy (which is itself notoriously difficult) but never mind..

I love Lucky Man. It's incredibly moving, funny and honest. I've read it several times and I always find something new in there. Of course it is difficult for me to be objective because I'm such an unashamed fan but as someone who reads a lot of biograhpies/memoirs I really do think that this is one of the best.

Have you read his most recent book, Always Looking Up? Not only is the title a nice short joke but it's an excellent read. It's very different to Lucky Man, this time it's just his thoughts on various subjects and how to stay positive etc, but written in a distinctly non preachy, self help book way. It's fantastic. Here's an amazon link:

On a sidenote, when I was writing one of the chapters of the piece I'm working on for uni (about the shifts between film and tv stardom and how they're now much easier to combine now, SJP etc) my supervisor, not knowing of my obsessive fandom, told me that I should look at Michael J Fox as an early precedent for this! I couldn't believe it! As research I then of course watched Family Ties and Back to the Future endlessly! Proof that I study an incredibly indulgent subject - haha!

Sorry, I seem to have taken over your post here...

Hello Betsy & Dodfather, It's been a while, but I thoroughly enjoyed "Lucky Man" when I read it. His devotion to his wife & children shines through on every page. Haven't read "Always Looking Up" yet, but will in the future. glad you enjoyed it. Best always, Madelow.

Always Looking Up is great. It's all about his life and career after retiring from Spin City. He can really write. If you enjoyed Lucky Man you'll like it!
