Hey estranged4life....How about those Oklahoma State Cowboys?
Goddess6 & ChiliD ... How about those Huskers? (We went to the local Nebraska-in-Colorado bar to watch the game on pay-per-view. Those people went wild.)
CU lost to CSU but I still love you Dan Hawkins...however, you better start winning this year, or your butt is ¡Adios Amigo!
I am looking forward to watching Ohio State & USC and Michigan & Notre Dame.
And am wondering what's gonna happen to Brianj's favorite Team Blow-U now that Sam Bradford is injured.
I can't remember who all contribute to this thread last year, but if you got a favorite. Speak up.

OU and OSU - it's a good news/bad news thing for the Horns, the Chokelahoma teams are weakening the Big 12 conference.

What an exciting weekend in college football! Georgia pulled out a win against the gamecocks. I was so scared that the gamecocks were going to get that touchdown BUT they didn't :D Notre Dame and Michigan was an excellent game as well. I thought ND would pull out the win but was happy they didn't. I don't really like Lou Holtz ;) Let's see... Oh, Alabama and Flordia won, big suprised. USC pulled out a win against OSU. I knew they would! OSU is so overrated and ranked. Yep, that's about it. I LOVE college football!

Yea he seems like such a cool and nice guy. He's a great player, that's for sure. But I was born AND raised in Athens so I hate Flordia no matter how many times they beat us haha. I think GA has more wins overall in the series but in the last 20 years it has been downhill for us haha.

"Antique on the sideline"
As for me, I am looking forward to this weekend. CU plays Wyoming. I am "praying to the commerical Gods" (Stevie line from Destiny Rules) that CU wins.
Dan Hawkins is such a positive man...and not like the egomaniac/sexist /unstable coaches we've had in the past (Neuheisel/Bartnett/McCartney). But because he plays his son as QB, there's a lot of guff going on. That offensive line won't hold them, and little Hawkins is constantly having to pick his ass up off the turf.
I think Coach Hawk is trying to civilize CU -- at one game the whole student section got ejected from the game by the ref's... so there's this empty section...and I think it was a Nebraska game...which was televised.
So with the positive Dan Hawkins quotes in the media, I just really like the guy. He even shakes the hands of the opposing players and pats them on the helmet at the end of the game as he's headed for the opposing coach handshake. [End of soap box speech].

Well now that the "antique" suffered through five years of other schools discouraging top prospects not to sign with PSU (cause A) he'll retire or (cause B) do a Bear Bryant, didn't pan as planned? PSU played USC in the Rose Bowl last year. Sure, they were destroyed, but they wouldn't have been there in the first place without Paterno.
Paterno is not Connie Mack (if you need to search this name, it's important). Take a look at FSU. Bowden has completely lost it. His staff runs the team, not the case with Paterno. Paterno was demonstrating onside kicks last season when he injured his knee. You think Bowden is doing that at FSU?? I think Bobby Bowden needs the sippy cup these days.

I like Paterno & Penn State, but he's every bit (at least 90%) of what Bowden is at the moment, in terms of active involvement. Granted, Paterno is older and in poor health- Bowden's just an personality-driven idiot wholly dependent on his assistants (just as he's always been)

That was a hell of an ending for Texas and I'm glad they won, but wow. They got very, very lucky. I don't understand what Colt was thinking on his final play, but luckily he got away with one second so that the field goal could be kicked to win the game.
I'll say this time and time again, not one single coach/coordinator/player on any level of football (college or NFL) understands clock management.
If Texas goes to the national championship, they are going to have to look a lot better on all sides of the football. I realize that Alabama's defense is not as strong as Nebraska's, but still. The only way I see them winning is if Alabama comes out overconfident.

How was Nebraska robbed and raped? They didn't exactly outplay the Horns offensively, they didn't even score one touchdown. They also gave us a huge gift with the personal foul call on the last drive. This game was all about defense from both teams. In the post-game conference, Colt said he thought there were 2 seconds left on the clock - Mac Brown said he called a timeout, but the officials didn't hear him over the crowd noise. Assuming that's true, the officials should have expected, and looked right at him, for a timeout call. Regardless, the review of the clock was correct. The Horns aren't dumb enough to let themselves run out of time.
If anyone was robbed and raped, particularly by the BCS system, it was UT, last year.

Last time the Longhorns were in the national championship, 2005, Reggie Bush (USC) held the Heisman title.
Look how that turned out.
When is the last time the Heisman winner was on the winning team at the national championship?

Florida and Tim Tebow
Tebow won the Heisman for the 2007 season. And the 2007 season BCS National Championship game was LSU winning over Ohio State.
Florida was in the 2008 National Championship game and won versus Oklahoma, but Sam Bradford (of OU) had the Heisman in 2008.
So basically it's the "curse of the Heisman."

Yay, Longhorns! Is that enough for major style points, stupid BCS computers?!? I hope UT jumps Alabama, they had a close call.
Congrats to Colt McCoy - 43!!! NCAA record for the most games won by a starting quarterback! :D
I was in California for Thanksgiving, watching the UT/A&M game with a bunch of UT-hating USC fans. :D What a great game! GO HORNS!
Anywho, congrats on winning the Big 12! Exactly half of my family had heart attacks this evening.
hell yeah~ i live in nebraska~ we were so robbed, raped & it's bull****~ good thing i am a bama fan, god help you colt!!!~
roll tide!!!~

Granted the kicker still had to make the field goal, but, there never should've even been the attempt...the game was over.
Just reminded me of the Olympic Gold Medal basketball game in '76 between USA & USSR, they kept adding time back on the clock for the final 3 seconds until the Soviets finally hit the winning shot.
It was fixed. A damned fix. Huskers got screwed out of the Big 12 championship. Sure, they weren't playing for the NATIONAL title, but Texas shouldn't be there EITHER, they lost the game, they KNOW they lost the game, Mack Brown knows he lost the game, Colt McCoy DEFINITELY knows he lost the game.

There's definitely some ill will between Leach and Texas Tech Athletic Director Gerald Myers.
Leach was due an $800,000 bonus on Dec. 31 if he was head coach at Texas Tech....so...they decided to fire him BEFORE the end of the year.

Brian Rosenthal: For Lincoln Southeast band, it's a job well done
SAN DIEGO — They sat in the spot where Nebraska’s band was supposed to sit, wore red and played the appropriate fight songs at the appropriate time.
Consider it a job very well done by the Marching Knights of Lincoln Southeast High School.
You’ve probably heard by now that last week’s blizzard kept the Cornhusker Marching Band from making a 30-hour bus trip to San Diego. The Southeast band, which had already been planning to perform with other high school bands as part of the Holiday Bowl halftime show, subbed for the varsity.
Yeah, the pace was a tad bit slower, and the volume of 100 instruments isn’t what you’d hear from the volume of 300, but who cares?
Outstanding job, Marching Knights. You sounded great and represented the state well.
The band, led by director R.J. Metteer, received a loud ovation from the Nebraska fans as it was introduced during the pregame show as “representing the University of Nebraska.”
We then heard “March of the Cornhuskers,” followed by “Hail, Varsity!” Then band members filed into the corner of the lower stands, shed their Southeast band uniforms and showed off the red Nebraska T-shirts they’d been wearing underneath.
When Nebraska scored touchdowns — yes, plural! — we heard the full version of “Hail, Varsity!” something I haven’t heard after TDs in several years. (And, yes, they finished before the extra point, with time to spare).
And remember, these young men and women learned the Nebraska songs in only a matter of days.

Leach will end up at another lower-tier BCS school where he can run his gimmick offense that has proven unable to beat top teams (he has something like a 15% winning percentage vs. ranked teams) yet schedule enough cupcakes to ensure a bowl appearance most every season. I was referring to the lower-tier status TT had when Leach took over. They're still certainly a lower tier Big 12 school, though. They'll never be able to recruit on the same level as other schools in their conference (the built-in Texas HS football advantage can only carry them so far). Leach pretty much maximized & realized the program's potential.
I don't think Leach is hireable at this point. Not until this whole thing blows over and another big college football story comes along-- which will probably happen win #2 beats #1 on Thursday night. ;)

This isn't necessarily an indictment of TT/Leach, but, it doesn't take much of anything to get to a bowl game. If you're a Big 12 team and you have 6 wins (even if 2 of them came against I-AA level cupcakes), you're going to a bowl game. Not exactly a beacon of pride.

Alabama is running the ball down their throat. With McCoy out this game will turn into a rout. The "real" national championship was Alabama over Florida in the SEC title game. If Texas played in the SEC they would have had two losses this year.
Texas just threw the game a way with a senseless pass and TD interception with just seconds left in the half. (Bonehead call says Lee Corso)

Texas fans can't blame the backup qb (Gilbert) for how he is playing. He is completely inexperienced and was just thrown into the national championship in the footsteps of McCoy.
Texas needs to put in Childs because Gilbert is not able to move the ball. The standard run, run, throw on 1, 2, 3 is too "by the book."

Well...
I did feel badly that Colt got hurt. The offense is built around that guy.
When the Tide rolled to a 24-6 lead at halftime, I thought, "This is gonna be a massacre, and do I really want to watch?"
Then I heard where Texas was playing with their back up quarterback and their backup center...and I thought...." Crap. Do I really want to stay on this channel?"
I wanted to see an equal match-up...which then made the third quarter and second half impressive when Texas brought it to 21-24.
Gilbert? I hope that the kid isn't beating himself up over the interceptions and tragic fumble, but I am sure he is. That poor bastard was probably thinking that he was gonna enjoy the scenery/vacation and ended up enjoying the scenery of the Alabama defense and the turf up close and personal.
Of course, I am more familiar with the Big Twelve (also known as the little dozen in some parts of the US ;) especially where JWS lives :D ) so my heart was deep on the Texas side of things... And I wanted to see Texas improve since the Nebraska game...but my college son kept telling me that the Tide was gonna roll, and I didn't believe him.
The Alabama defense was impressive and Dareus was excellent for his effort.
I was worried when Mark Ingram got hurt. I don't want to see anyone hurt, but he managed to come back at the end and show us impressive stuff, along with that freshman Trent Richardson. Both had over 100 yards rushing.
The game was entertaining, in its shifts of momentum and bizarre and ballsy coaching decisions.
It is Alabama's turn at being #1 again and I am sure Bear Bryant is smiling somewhere.

And now Nick Sabin has his second crown.
The best team won with the best players.
(Though personally, I thought Boise State and TCU were better teams ... but ... I don't want to start any fights... :D The season is over.)
Thanks to everyone who an interest and took part in this thread. I had fun reading your comments and I hope you had fun too.
See you in the fall.
(P.S. GO BUFFS!) Now THOSE are the words of an eternal optimist...and someone with delusional tendencies.
Ugh, so heartbreaking. :distress: We could "what if" it to death. Had Colt not been hurt, it would have been a very different game, that's for sure. My hopes were raised at the 24-21 point, but we all know what happened. :( Props to UT's defense and for the team hanging in there and playing hard. I can't imagine the amount of pressure Gilbert must have felt.
Yeah, I did hear Tusk. That was Alabama's band - their mascot is an elephant. I've never known why, can someone explain that, please?
Big Al

The origin of the mascot dates back to 1930. On October 8, a sportswriter wrote about the previous weekend's Alabama-Ole Miss football game. The writer, using the flair for the dramatic common in sportswriting at the time, wrote that an anonymous fan yelled out "Here come the elephants" upon hearing the rumble of the first team coming on the field. The name stuck throughout what became a national championship season and beyond.

I'm starting to wonder how many National Championships we will win in a row.
I'm sure at least 3 more.

I just think Bama is happy Kentucky is off the schedule next year.
That's exactly what I'm sayin'! Texas' defense was playing pretty well, and 14 of Alabama's points were from interceptions/fumbles by Texas' true freshman quarterback.
(P.S. My phone is deadsville but I'm chargin' her up! :) )
Colt would not have been on the field when Bama's Richardson ran up the middle for a 49 yard TD.

Good point.
Why did Colt keep saying in the after-game interviews
"oh snap, guess what I saw"?

Well, the college football season is finally over and the SEC took its rightful place as the best conference in the nation for four straight years (a record by the way). I see the SEC, with LSU and Florida in the wings, running off another two, three NC's . (That's SEC as in Southeatern Conference...not Securities and Exchange Commission. A Harvard lawyer once asked me why the Securities and Exchange Commission would be involved with college sports:lol:)
Now we have the annual coaching marry-go-round with USC's Pete Carroll going to the NFL, Leach fired at Texas Tech, Rich Brooks retiring at Kentucky, Tuberville to Tech and on and on.
