When she joined the Mac she was 27 i believe, yet she sounded in my opinion so much younger when she sang. Same if you listened to her Bella Donna Album. Just figured i'd post this, cause it just suprised me at how young she sounded despite how old she really was.

How old do you think she sounds? Her voice has never been that girlish in Fleetwood Mac imo. I think she sounds her age, and 27 isn't exactly old. Also I think by the time Bella Donna came out all the touring and smoking were starting to show in her voice. She sounds very husky and sexy to me on that album.

In Rumours I think she sounds probably at least in her earlier 20's like 20 or 21 she just sounds girly imo!

now i have always thought the line in "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You", where she says "So, if not for me, then, Do it for yourself", the studio version, she sounds super young~ it's one of my favorite lyrics she sings, the way she sounds still gives me goose bumps when i hear it to this day~

I agree, I thought in the first 10 years of her career that Stevie looked and sounded way younger than she was. Just listen to Say You Love Me from the Live '80 album. But at the same time, the band has always seemed like parental figures to me. I had to realize the other day that I'm now as old as Stevie was during the White Album  .

He means the one from the Live album. It was released in 1980 but not all the songs on the record were recorded during the Tusk tour.

When she sings the first line from "Outside the Rain" at Red Rocks she sounds so young.

I don't think her singing voice ever sounded that young. In fact, I'm amazed at how mature she sounded doing Landslide back then. Now, her voice certainly sounds, um, something on the BN album. But I don't know if "young" is the word I would use.

I think the higher her voice is, the younger she sounds. To me, she sounds younger in her harmony vocals but more mature in her leading songs (like "Landslide", as someone mentioned).

She sounds really young here:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/1IJNmWNPDYg&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/1IJNmWNPDYg&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
I know she was young, but her voice is more girlish here than on the album.
Also Landslide from The Dance, after the guitar solo where she sings, "I've been afraaaaid of changin'..."... she's almost doing a Cyndi Lauper/Elmer Fudd thing. It sounds more like "afwaid."

I think that up until about Rock A Little, stevie seemed much younger than she really was because she was quite fragile. In the way that she sang and the way that she wrote. For instance Beauty and the Beast, shows both her fragility and innocence through her vocals and lyrics.

We could be talking about cats and dogs and I'd find a way to work it into the conversation.

I think the reason why we feel she sounds so young back in the 70's is because the way she sounds now compared to then is complete night and day. Now, that's not a bad thing, just a fact.
AS for the line in HAEWAFY, I remember the first time I heard that as I was just starting to fall for Stevie's music, thinking the same thing!!
