Just listened to this song for the first time in ages and I've remembered why I skip it... what do others make of this track? I really, really just don't think it works at all! I don't know what posessed Stevie to do it. The thing is, it could have been brilliant because as we know she sings country really well but the horrible 80s synth backing track and Rupert Hine's production....just no!
This song has been covered by so many people over the years and I really think Stevie's version is the worst I've heard, which is a real shame because I hate to dislike anything she's done quite so much!
Does anyone like this? Maybe I can be persuaded...haha...

I like it "ok". Simply because it's an old country standard and I thought it was really cool she covered it. Plus, the sentiment behind it of course being for LB. Very touching. Musically, you're right. It's awful. But, I try to just listen to the words and tune the other out.

This is one of my least favorite tracks. I love the track before this (Doing the best...) and I wish TOSOTM would end on that track. Or stick one of the better songs on the end of the album, like Real Tears. There were some good demos from this era that are better than I Still Miss Someone. Heck anything would be better than this song.

But it could have been a good recording in Stevie's own hands five years earlier. But as it stands, the treatment is awful & her vocal is bad. Listening to her try to work too many words into an exhale practically triggers a panic attack in me.

Love the album but not this track. Stevie of 1973 sounded like Dolly Parton could do country. And maybe today's Stevie could pull it off. But in 1989, and particularly with this treatment, she just doesn't pull it off.

Yeah, it would be great if it ended with Dping The Best That I Can. I wonder if Stevie regrets recording I Still Miss Someone now? Or at least regrets putting it on an album? We all know she has reservations about some of her material from this era!
It's such a shame. I'm a huge country fan and she could have done this song so well but as it is it perhaps has the dubious honour of being the worst track Stevie has put on any of her solo albums.

Johnny Cash sung it better. Sorry, but she shouldn't have covered that song. The original by Johnny is better.

One of the only things that really stands out to me about this song is that it's really the only song on OSOTM that has a guitar solo!!!! Believe it or not, but it is!!! So I guess you could say that it truly is the most rockin' song on the album!!!

Nah, "Street Angel" or "Just Like A Woman" take that title. But it's definitely up there. It's like I'm waiting for the duration of the song to hear her voice pick up some emotion. And it just doesn't happen, which is sad because although Stevie is not at all a technically brilliant singer, her voice is made brilliant because of her ability to put forward emotion.

Clarification: That "stupid song" is about monkeys being put to death and how it affects her.
