They haven't performed there for 29 years. As Luke might say, they did not oversaturate that market. Therefore the demand was there. Remember the large crowds fM attracted on The Dance Tour? That was because the 5 Rumours era members hadn't toured together at that point in 15 years. I would bet that if Christine toured with the band on the Unleashed Tour, there probably would have been several thousand more fans at each show.
Thanks for the clips. I don't know about New Zealand in general, but they've been talking about how New Plymouth has never had anything this big. This is the first time testing out their ability to cater to a crowd of this size and just to host something this big. So, I'm sure they like FM, but it's not just that it was FM, per se. It's just like getting excited when the Olympics or Superbowl comes to your town, even if you aren't interested in the Olympics or Superbowl.

Ok, it all makes more sense now. Thanks!

In the haze of my spotty memory (remember, I almost knocked myself unconscious before the show!), I seem to recall that Stevie was just speechless while Lindsey went on her mic saying "Bob didn't call you; I called you. I called you." Then as Stevie tried to continue the story and Lindsey was walking back to his spot, he turned around and continued off-mic, "I called you, I really did." Stevie just glared at him. And then after a few seconds he walked up to her mic and said "I even kissed you," followed by a peck on the cheek. Stevie was visibly shocked and could only muster up "I'm speechless," but she did continue with the regular story moments later.
LOL! Thanks for the additional details! Sorry about the head-hitting thing... :(
I love how you say Stevie just "glared" at him. hehehe I bet she was thinking, "stop interrupting my story!"
Pictures were awesome too - thanks for posting! How cute are Mick's kids? They look like Lynn and Mick, respectively. Adorable.

Visitors and band sing volunteers' praises
By MATT RILKOFF - Taranaki Daily News Last updated 05:00 23/12/2009
Volunteering has never been so cool.
The volunteer programme put in place for the Fleetwood Mac concerts has won the praise and respect of the band and visitors alike.
The 150 red T-shirt wearing volunteers took up strategic positions around the airport, city and the Bowl of Brooklands during the weekend and proved a big hit.
So much so the Fleetwood Mac members had even asked for several of the T-shirts for themselves.
Council venue manager Jenny Mills said the volunteers had come up again and again in the comments made by visitors.
"And it was all positive," she said.
Which might not be a Taranaki exaggeration.
Volunteer Kathy Glass had the task of asking visitors for their opinion on what New Plymouth had to offer.
Not only did she enjoy the experience but the results showed they did too.
"Well, I haven't seen the totals for everything but what I saw was mostly four out of fives for everything," she said.
That's the same as 80 per cent, or an "A" if you use old academic grades.
As well as being delivered lunch or dinner on each day they worked, volunteers were thrown a thank-you meal by the New Plymouth District Council on Monday night.

I guess Lindsey figured since it was the last show on the tour, she wouldn't have time left to kill him or anything.
Thank you for those pictures. I don't know which one is "Ruby" but I hope she has had a full, 100% recovery and it's fun to see Stevie with them.
Stevie's collar thing looks scraggly. If it's something her mother found in the attic that used to be Grandma's, I applaud her for wearing it. Otherwise . . .
I could not have spent all of those traveling hours going to NZ and I don't think I could have endured a venue like that, especially not the first night of rain. So, I never could have done what you did, but I so envy you the experience. Thanks for sharing. Now, on to Hawaii!

Alas, it did happen. And, life has played yet another cruel joke on us by a video of it not surfacing on youtube. Doesn't anyone believe in Santa Claus anymore??
I'm not astounded by the kiss though - just the way it happened. Too funny! And, seeing and hearing Stevie's reaction to Lindsey's intrusion and blatant pda would just be the icing on the proverbial Gypsy cake.
A big shout out too to Ms. Nicks for being all transparent with this autobiographical tale. It rocked like San Fran in '69.

Yeah, I think he kisses her at least 3 times a night. But just his coming over after all this time, when he never said anything the other nights . . . It's funny, it's intimate, it's the tension and intention of throwing her off guard.
I love it.

The video was filmed on Leelee's birthday, so ... but that video is way too blurry and short to really tell - imo. It would make sense it was the twins together, right? Maybe Stevie was having Karen carpool them over to Leelee's party. :woohoo:  I mean, there's a ton of possibilities really... great candid video though.

I actually wondered this last night
maybe it was a spur of the moment thing
maybe her stories have been annoying him from the moment she started telling them. and he had this one last opportunity to correct her.
and he said that kiss comment as an excuse to KISS HER THEN AND THERE
maybe he was making up {embellishing} the story like she had been

You know, back in October, when we were running around the Euro tour, I thought there was no way in bloody he'll I would go to nz. I think earlier in this thread I said something to that effect. I also had misgivings about flying. And of course there is the expense. But so many things fell into place, the unbelievable ticket being the least of them. Anyway, this trip has been the greatest thing I've ever done and the show was just icing on the cake. I've learned so much about myself and the world, and I'm doing things I would have never dreamed of doing. Right now I'm in this lovely little village called akaroa and I'm about to go swimming with the dolphins! And I can't swim! But who cares? All I can say is thanks to the Mac for giving me the excuse to experience so much of the world this past year. And thanks to the other crazies like DavidMn for blazing the trail for extreme touring- he puts me to shame! I somehow doubt I will do this again any time soon... but never say never, I always say!

I'm pretty sure it's the same Red Rocks/Tango coat. It's her warm "rock and roll coat" that she busts out when the mercury dips below 70 degrees LOL. She wore the same one for the Jones Beach show during the CV tour when it was very cold, windy and wet. She also wore it at Jones Beach for the 04 show of the SYW tour. I remember seeing on some website during one of those HOB or New Year's Eve shows from the early 2000's and there were pics of Stevie dressed from head to toe in all cream colors and I remember it being one of her best stage looks from recent years and how lovely she looked. Taranaki Daily News 3/1/2010
http://www.stuff.co.nz/taranaki-daily-news/business/3387693/Region-counts-concert-blessings
Region counts concert blessings
If you are a Taranaki local and went to one of December's Fleetwood Mac concerts, you were very much in the minority. But that was good news for Taranaki, as Rob Maetzig explains.
Anyone who was in New Plymouth during that heady weekend just before Christmas will know that the city was bulging with visitors.
They were all here for a single reason - to attend one of the two concerts by rock group Fleetwood Mac at the TSB Bowl of Brooklands.
It all meant that thousands of fans poured into the region on the Friday and Saturday to attend the first concert on December 19. Then, as they departed on the Sunday, thousands more poured into Taranaki to attend the second concert on December 20.
And while all these people were in Taranaki, not only did they spend, but they also enjoyed what Taranaki has to offer - and most say they'd love to come back.
How do we know all this? Because the region's economic development agency Venture Taranaki commissioned an economic impact report on the weekend, which used sales data, attendee surveys and economic impact analysis to measure the difference between Taranaki having the concerts and not having them.
The report's conclusions are fascinating.
For example, the research showed that of the 34,045 people who crammed into the Bowl for the concerts, three-quarters were visitors with 27.7 per cent from Auckland. More than a third were aged between 45 and 54, and more than two-thirds were women.
That data speaks volumes about the years Fleetwood Mac was at its peak and who the fans were.
But there's more. Of those 34,045 ticket sales, 25,622 or 75.3 per cent were to fans from outside Taranaki. Most came from Auckland, 16.4 per cent came from Wellington, 13.9 per cent from Waikato, and 10.5 per cent from Bay of Plenty.
Only 9.8 per cent of visitors came from Manawatu and 3 per cent came from Wanganui - the same number as those who travelled all the way from Canterbury for the concerts.
Close to 98 per cent of all the visitors stayed in the region for at least one night - their average stay was actually 1.76 nights - and 72.2 per cent stayed in commercial accommodation.
Of real economic significance for Taranaki is the fact that 26 per cent of visitors had never been to the region before.
But did they enjoy themselves?
Venture Taranaki's research questioned visitors on how they rated the concert experience, with one being a low rating and 10 being a high rating.
Close to 80 per cent gave the experience a ranking of seven or more.
And when asked how they enjoyed Taranaki itself, 66 per cent ranked the Taranaki region as either vibrant or very vibrant.
Seventy-nine per cent said they'd come back for another event, with 58 per cent saying they'd like to return for a holiday.
Venture Taranaki chief executive Stuart Trundle says the visitor rankings of Taranaki pleased him most of all.
"With the concerts, we were aware we were being presented with an opportunity to maximise the promotion of Taranaki.
"It's great to know that so many people who came to the concerts say they would definitely return.
"It shows that you have to get people to visit a region for them to change their perceptions about a place.
"It's a much better way than simply putting nice images on a wall at Wellington or Auckland airport."
The research also surveyed the Taranaki residents who attended the concerts, and that has thrown up some interesting data.
Of the 8423 Taranaki fans, 90.9 per cent came from New Plymouth district, 7.6 per cent from South Taranaki - and just 1.5 per cent from Stratford.
They were asked whether events are important to Taranaki's vibrancy, with one being not important and 10 being extremely important. Of the total surveyed, 53 per cent gave a ranking of 10, while another 39.7 per cent gave a ranking of eight or nine.
Not only that, but 65.2 per cent felt the number of events held in Taranaki is about right, while 33.3 per cent felt there aren't enough events - with just 1.5 per cent saying there are too many events. And 75.8 per cent felt the variety of events is about right.
So while this survey showed that the Fleetwood Mac concerts provided a $23.08 million initial financial boost to the Taranaki economy, which resulted in a net profit to the region of $9.56m, the benefits obviously go beyond the cash.
Not only did the concerts draw national and international media attention to the region, but they attracted many people who had never been to Taranaki before. And they were impressed, which means there's every chance they will come back.
"While the measurable economic benefits were certainly a boost for the region, the many non-financial benefits offer greater long-term potential," says Mr Trundle.
"Attracting new visitors to the region and delivering an experience resulting in significantly more positive perceptions of Taranaki will deliver further benefits down the line, as the region looks to meet future growth needs."
