Probably Mirage although both are great. Stevie is at her absolute best when a viewer honestly needs to doubt her sanity for a few moments during a performance. I prefer the fiery and flailing type of crazy to the more subdued-- although when Stevie packs a subtle and yet staggering emotional punch in her less explosive performances, they are pure gold.

Mirage, by far.

I can't decide because I love them both for different reasons:

Mirage is great because of the speaking in tongue thing and you can just really see her emotions on her face.

Tusk is awesome because of the (fake) audience responses and I like how she sings "does anyone know my name"

I wish there was a combo!
Absolutely adore this song live. It's killer onstage.

I looove them both....but I"m going to have to say the TUSK doc. There's just something about it.....It's such classic rock.

I like the way Fleetwood Mac sounds better on the 1979 one -- something about Lindsey's guitar tone & amplification -- but I like the way Stevie sang in general in 1982.

So it's twelve of one, & six & a half dozen of another.

Neither one of these performances, incidentally, would I consider the best of their respective tours.

I would have to go with the Tusk doc..... I guess I'm in the minority when it comes to the Mirage one--I don't think it's all that sorry

Agreed!

I'd have to say Mirage. That one just tugs at my heart...she's so intense. I'll admit, my eyes were opened recently to the joy of the Tusk version. It's definitely awesome in it's own way, but Mirage kicks @$$!

I don't like the whole sister/brother thing in the Mirage performance......it's odd.... I know, i know....I'm probably the only person who doesn't like that part....
She makes up for it when she collapes on Lindsey at the end...

While I love both versions, I'm inclined to declare the Mirage one my absolute favorite. So emotional, blisteringly intense, and unforgettable.

Any version that includes the lyrics that were left off the original recording!

"And so we make our choices
When there is no choice.
And we listen to the voices
Ignoring our own voice."

LOVE that!

I also really love the recording when she starts screaming lyrics to "Cecelia" towards the end. Magical.

Absolutely without a doubt the Mirage version. There is so much intensity in that one video that it's just insane.

Go check out her delivery of the very last "moon" on the Tusk documentary version. If it weren't for all that stupid crowd noise, which yes I think is fake now that you mention it, that might be the better version. She looks so much happier. I love the way she smiles. The end is definitely better to my ears ("you and you and you" etc. works way better than the incoherent stuff, to my ears).

But I love the way Lindsey sings the bridge in the Mirage video, and the intensity of the whole performance. And I do love the "sister...sister...brother" bit. So I'm going with the Mirage video version for my best-of Stevie compilation, but visually I prefer the Tusk documentary version where she seems so much happier (and Mick's amazing drumming is so brilliantly captured). And I think she is in better voice there (early in the tour rather than later).

I am going to go with the Mirage preformance of SOTM as my fav, but I love almost any preformance of it that I've seen. :xoxo:

But I love the way Lindsey sings the bridge in the Mirage video,Kind of weird that they split the song up vocally that way in 1982. They had done so in 1978 when they played it four or five times. But Stevie took all the vocals on the entire Tusk tour. So something gave them the idea to break it up again in 1982.

I bet it was a staph infection.

I love it when Stevie and Lindsey divide the lead vocals within a single song -- Frozen Love, the 1982 version of Sisters, Twisted, the the 2009 versions of Say You Love Me-Don't Stop-World Turning. They really should do it a lot more. Frozen Love and Twisted are the perfect examples, with one of them singing verse 1, the other singing verse two, and both of them singing verse 3 together.

Don't think it worked so well on SYLM though.

I love both versions, but if I had to pick one it would be Mirage.
It maybe Stevie's best video taped performance of all her songs.
Too bad it's edited.

She makes up for it when she collapes on Lindsey at the end...

The reason it works (for me at least) is that in this version, unlike in most all others, Stevie has changed the person point-of-view in the last verse (wonder whether Lindsey tried to talk her out of it ala Thrown Down in Destiny Rules!).

So the people are now gathering around the audience not the singer. And since the audience consists of both men and women, sisters and brothers, it's as though the gathering people are saying "be my sister/brother of the moon, whichever applies to you." That's why her alternating between the two makes sense, at least to me.

why would you call the audiences reaction fake during sisters of the moon performance from the tusk doc. tour? that is a true a reaction from her performance from the fans it is not fake reaction from the audience. i love both versions of this song live myself.

I'm pretty sure they enhanced the loud applause/shouting on the video after Stevie sings "Does anyone here ooh know my name?" part because I have that on mp3 and there's no reaction to that on the mp3.
Perhaps whatever source got the show edited out the applause, but there's other applause throughout the song... It's from the St. Louis, MO show.

why would you call the audiences reaction fake during sisters of the moon performance from the tusk doc. tour?I think he means that the film & sound are edited so that Stevie's every gesture is accompanied by a frenzy in the crowd & in the lighting director. Audio & video are spliced together in order to amplify the experience.

I entirely agree with you. Stevie seemed a little more comfortable with the song in '82, but Lindsey's guitar playing/sound/amplification simply will never match that of the '79 era. His guitar sounds almost evil on that song!

We call it fake because the soundboard recording of the show reveals what appears to be a truer crowd reaction:

It doesn't make sense that the audience would go so all-out crazy at the parts that it seems to in the documentary version.

Really? I prefer the Mirage Tour video sound of Lindsey's guitar on that song. Especially at the end!

I really love both version's, it is my fav F/Mac song!! I was SO lucky, right place right time, I met Stevie & the Band on the Gold coast back in 1980 Tusk Tour, she was so friendly, & happy to chat for 15 min, it was a day I will never forget...

if i had my choice between watching the video-i'd go with mirage. the quality is much better, stevie has the wild, crazy thing going on, especially when she comes back from the break. i love after the speaking in tongues, she spins off into the oblivion in true stevie style. and then there's always this:

http://www.buckinghamnicks.net/bn/images/SnLSOTM.jpg

but i have both recordings on my comp, and just to listen to them..i'm going with tusk doc/st. louis.

they are both equally raw, but i prefer her voice on the tusk doc. i also love the "it's you, it's you, it's youuuuuu!!!" part at the end. it's just a little less....polished, i guess. not a good word, i know, but the band sounds better as well.

Agreed. 1982 was a banner year for Stevie's vocals. But you're always holding out...which are the tour bests?
