Pretty straightforward.
My favorite movie ever is Woody Allen's Stardust Memories.
I also love Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Dead Poet's Society, 8 1/2, the Virgin Suicides, La Belle Et La Bete, The Hours, Wedding Crashers, Something's Gotta Give, Manhattan, and.... the Hangover.
Anything with Meryl Streep in it is gold in my eyes.

Ahhh Danielle, I wondered if you'd do this -haha! I was waiting for the bands one to go on for a bit before doing it myself but now you have, great!
I always have a tough time picking favourite films. Trust me, when someone hears you're studying film it's always the first question you get asked and it's pretty impossible! I usually have a list of 10-15 that are in no particular order and depends on my mood etc... Here goes
The Silence of the Lambs (1991) - Stunning in every way and if I had to choose one this would maybe be it. Jodie Foster is fantastic in almost everything, apart from a few of her more recent movies.
Double Indeminty (1944) - The best film noir ever. In my opionion of course, lol.
Superman (1978) - I loved this as a kid and never grew out of the fandom for Superman! This gets better when you're older though.
Almost Famous (2000) - I fell in love with Penny Lane! Is there a cooler real-life couple than Cameron Crowe and Nancy Wilson from Heart?!
When Harry Met Sally (1989) - I think this is one of the best romantic comedies ever.
Back To The Future (1985) - Michael J Fox is one of my favourite actors. I'm such a fan. I've seen all of his stuff (The Hard Way is especially good) but I still think that these movies are the best franchise ever. They beat Lord of the Rings (and I like those films too!)
Love Me Or Leave Me (1955) - Doris Day's finest film. I'm a big fan and think she's totally underrated in dramatic roles. The only time James Cagney accespted second billing.
Pillow Ralk (1959) - Another one of Doris' best. The so-called "homage" Down With Love from a few years ago was dreadful!
Moulin Rouge! (2001) - Wow! I was blown away by this in the cinema.
Overboard (1987) - Goldie rules! This film is endlessely quotable.
Anchorman (2004) - Again, the quote factor...
Gone With The Wind (1939) - Epic,
Rear Window (1954) - I think this is Hitchcock's best.
To Die For (1995) - Nicole's best performance. Fantastic.
Bringing Up Baby (1938) - So, so funny. Katharine Hepburn. Cary Grant. A leopard. What's not to like!
10 Things I Hate About You (1999) - Such a great teen movie!
Mary Poppins (1966). So much fun!
St. Elmo's Fire (1985) - A darker version of the brat pack films. Ally Sheedy and Andrew McCarthy are great in this. It also has one of the best movie theme songs ever!
All About Eve (1950) - Possibly the best film about Hollywood there's been. Although any fans of The Player may disagree with me.
Phew!! Sorry - this post has gone on for ages. See, this is what happens when I start to make lists, haha! Good call on Eternal Sunshine by the way. Kate Winslet is fantastic and really should have got the Oscar for this. Have you seen Heavenly Creatures (1994)? Her first film, made in New Zealand by Peter Jackson. It's brilliant but very dark.
How can you not love Meryl Streep? She can do anything, Death Becomes Her (1992) with Meryl and Goldie is so great!
God, there are so many more movies I could add to this....I'd better stop now!
By the way, sorry if putting the years in is annoying. I noticed I'd done it just now (force of habit)....

Ooo, fun!
Oldboy - I never get tired of watching this film. Contains one of the greatest fight scenes EVER made, wherein they manage to make one dude with a hammer taking on about 20 other dudes and winning look realistic. And it was shot all in one take. Park Chan-Wook for the WIN. (Here's the scene, if you're interested, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wha0brbb_44 )
And some more, in no particular order:
Halloween (The original. Go away, Rob Zombie.)
Clerks & Clerks 2
The Hitcher (The original. Go away, Sean Bean. I want to like you, but you are not Rutger Hauer. Stick to Sharpe's Rifles.)
The Shining (Kubrick's)
Silence of the Lambs
Escape from New York
Carpenter's The Thing
Audition
Martyrs
Dawn of the Dead (The original. Go away, Zack Snyder.)
Night of the Living Dead
Teeth
Feast
Midnight Express
The Departed
Reservoir Dogs
Labyrinth
The Princess Bride
Shaun of the Dead
Hot Fuzz
The Evil Dead series
Lost Boys
Tale of Two Sisters
Original Star Wars trilogy
Robert Rodriguez's Mexico trilogy
Hard Candy
Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!
Three Extremes
The Descent (with the original UK ending, not the American theatrical release ending)
Guess I should stop now. Many of those are horror films, because that's kind of my thing.

Wow alot of great posts in this thread. I'm not a 'big' movie watcher. Heck there's probably a list long of movie's I've not ever seen yet...but know all about them....but some of my favorite movies are:
** Shadow Of A Doubt -Alfred Hitcock/b & w...wonderful, suspenseful....one of those movies of his you don't hear about...has Joseph Cotton and Teresa Wright in the leads...watch it...awesome!!!
**House On Haunted Hill/original b/w with Julie Harris (she later played on Knots Landing /Val's mother....not seen the remake but I'm sure it can't compare to the orginial....very suspenseful....love it...
**Halloween---original 78 /no sequels either....the first will always be the best... & I don't really like 'scary' movies either.
**The Glass Menagerie--another old b/w with a very young Kirk Douglas & Jane Wyman--its wonderful....
**Its A Wonderful Life....always a classic & always timeless....Jimmy Stewart rocks....wonderful b/w ...a movie with heart & soul....
**Gone With The Wind...another classic
***The Wizard Of Oz....ditto....I repeat myself again.....
**Goldfinger-with Sean Connery....the #1 James Bond
**Batman with Micheal Keaton (1st 2 only)
Well....can't think of anything else right now.....I love older movies.....I have seen other movies but nothing that I just have to watch again & again really....I used to love the Star Wars orginials but when Lucas messed with them....and all the stupid prequels....lost interest .....I guess there ok....but I haven't watched them in sometime.....if I think of others I'll post another one......:shrug:

SPOLIER for The Descent...
In the American version of The Descent the film ends with the heroine escaping from the cave and driving away. In the original version as she is driving sort of wakes up and is still in the cave. In the forthcoming sequel, the same actress returns to the cave, but I'm not sure of the circumstances. Here's the leaked trailer for the sequel which hits UK theaters next month.

I didn't realise America got a different ending. Did they make it a happy ending instead? One of the best parts of The Descent is the bleak ending.
Have you seen Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance? Lady Vengeance was my avatar here for years. Those films are amazing.
****here there be spoilers for The Descent****
Yeah, as GoldDustOrphan said, the theatrical release ended on the "jump scare" bit with her in the car, Juno going "boo!" and the girl getting away, instead of continuing like the UK one does, which I prefer greatly, due to its sad, slow weirdness.
I also have a bad feeling about the sequel, but I am willing to give it a shot because I was so enamored of the first one. Why do they show us Juno is still alive in the trailer? That should be a good surprise, even if she ends up being a hallucination or something. Meh.
And yes! I have seen all of the Vengeance films. Park Chan-Wook is a damn genius.
If you haven't seen it, check out "Three Extremes," which is also on my list. One of the segments is Park Chan-Wook (he wrote it and directed), the one called "Cut."
And another segment is called "Box," which was directed by Takashi Miike, another damn genius (he directed "Audition," also on my list).
And you have Pan's Labyrinth on your list! I should've put that on mine, too. I quite enjoyed that one. Good call.

I haven't seen Three Extremes but I thought Audition was amazing. Have you ever see Takashi Miike's The Happiness Of The Katakuris? That's one of the most bizarre films I've ever seen.
I used to love a lot of J-horror but then Hollywood came and watered it down. They completely ruined Ring. The original is so terrifying.
Edit: here's the link for The Descent sequel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6liEvCe-R0
I've seen Happiness, yeah. Miike is just awesome. Have you seen Ichi the Killer? Also bizarre in all the right ways.
Agreed about Hollywood watering it down. They keep remaking great Asian horror films and screwing them up. I was so annoyed at "The Uninvited," which was just a bad knock-off of "A Tale of Two Sisters" (also on my list - see it! Creepy abounds! Yay South Korea!).
I think I remember flailing around on the Ledge before in another thread about the planned remake of Oldboy starring Will Smith (*twitch*). Just...quit it! Ugh.
