I know people put up with a lot from me sometimes but I just want to say how much I like bears! Yes, I think bears are great things; pretend ones, real ones, conceptual bears... there should just be a planet of bears where you can go and simply be a bear gruffling and snerfing in the woods. I don't think that means I'm like Timothy Treadwell, although I did live in Alaska for awhile, but I think bears are really cool except for when they are eating folk and then I think they are bad, but not all bears do that sort of thing.
Some people I know really like owls, horses or your basic domestic selection of creatures. I like Pooh, Rupert, Little Bear, and Mr. Bear Squash-You-All-Flat. Maybe the bear is my totem animal. Maybe I'm simply a bit daft, but then "there's nowt wrong wi' bein' daft" I've heard it said. I hope we will always have bears around.

What an odd post for someone who's never around posting normally. HAHA
I like "Bear City"...what was that from? SNL?

I'm an odd poster but I do know that Bear City rocked!!! I thought it was on Conan O'Brien, but maybe that's because there was the bit with the devil on one shoulder and a bear on the other.

I've always had a major fear of bears my whole life. I have had many dreams that I am walking in the woods and stumble upon a whole family of black bears. And that's all I can always remember. Perhaps because they eat me.

It's pretty rare for black bears to attack people, only at certain times of the year just after or before hibernation if they are really skinny and generally not very well. They are real grumpy when they come out of hibernation (like I am). Even that old sick and desperate grizzly that scarfed up Treadwell and his girlfriend took weeks to finally turn to them even though they camped in the middle of a bear trail in the brush. Statistically people are bigger threats to people than bears. I'm much more afraid of cougars and wolves.
Fat bears are good bears!

Today on the news there was a report of a man in a rural town in New Jersey who was attacked by a bear. He said he was walking to his car with a sandwich and got jumped from behind. He said the bear came out of "nowhere" and knocked him down and all it wanted was his sandwich, so it took it, roughed him up a little and then fled. I'm not fooling-this is a real story.
I like the Chicago bears.

A friend of mine calls bears stomachs with legs. Their sense of smell is massive too. In Alaska everyone has to have bear proof garbage containers and it's not too uncommon for them to break a window to get into a kitchen. Usually the bears that do wander into populated areas are very young and inexperienced and can be dealt with by trapping, release and then scaring them away with loud noises and dogs.

I like the Chicago bears.
Those kind of bears are big but not as furry. I have a pink Cubs ball cap but I only follow hockey (Bruins) and soccer-football usually.

I like bears. Have you been to "Bear Country USA" in Rapid City, South Dakota? It's worth a visit:

Stop by there and maybe also see Mount Rushmore and the beautiful countrysides of South Dakota.

I've always wanted to see DeSmet SD. I had pioneer ancestors just down the line from it in Minnesota way back.

My partner gave me some nicknames all relating to bear. He calls me 'El Osito' (the baby bear), or 'Juanito Osito' , or just 'Baby Bear' or 'Mr. Bear'. It's cute, and I call him sometimes 'Papa Bear', 'Senor Oso' (Mr. Bear) or 'Osote' (big bear).
I like bears now! I never paid much attention to them, except for my one stuffed bear on my dresser which I got in Europe a few years ago during the 'Knute' craze.

^^
Yes, well we all get older don't we? Perhaps Cutler will lead them to glory this season...probably not...but it has to be better than last year. Just out of curiosity how did you become a fan of Chicago sports teams (yes I know not the White Sox) living in Oklahoma?

One of my favorite music groups Los Machucambos (http://www.geocities.com/rebjan_ca/machucambos.html) did an original song El Osito (Le Petit Ourson) with Raphael Gayoso as the bear going "oy oy oy" in a funny way. I wish I could upload it. I've threatened to get my current boyfriend furry pjs! :^D

I have FoxSW and the Texas Rangers are playing great, so at least I have one team to cheer for this year.
Interesting story about a "bear" in my recent past. Debbie collected "Beanie Babies" as one of her hobbies, but she didnt like the teddy bears all that much unless they were pertaining to her career field of nursing. I used to purchase her bears just to annoy the crap outta her because of her dislike for 'em.
Well, this past February I bought a Big Red "Valentine's Day" teddy bear that I placed on her side of our funeral plot...and every day that I went out to "visit with her" that bear was always knocked off the headstone. If it snowed, it was laying in the snow covered, if it rained it was a red mud covered meldewed bear. No matter the situation, I would place it back and each following day it would be knocked off the headstone a further distance than the previous day...I even secured it onto the top of the headstone...
UNTIL finally I went out there one day and the Red Bear was gone, I searched the perimeter of the cemetery grounds and it was nowhere to be found. I'm guessing her spirit PUNTED it out of this existence (Though I truly believe some asswipe stole it, among other items I placed out on her grave). I knew she hated bears, but jeeze... :D

That is sad, scary and kind of cool all at the same time. I never like beanie bears either, mostly because they were all kinds of weird colours, bears should be brown or black or white and that's all, unless they are the multi-tentacled Martian bear...

If you're a bear, you get to hibernate. You do nothing for six months. I could deal with that.
Before you hibernate, you're supposed to eat yourself stupid. I could deal with that too.
If you're a bear, you birth your children (who are the size of walnuts) while you're sleeping and wake to partially grown, but cuddly cubs. I could definitely deal with that.
If you're a mama bear, everyone knows you mean business. You swat anyone who bothers your cubs. If your cubs get out of line, you swat them too. I could deal with that.
If you're a bear, your mate expects you to wake up growling. He expects that you will have hairy legs and excess body fat.
Yup, I wanna be a bear.

When I read the title I admit I related it to the gay concept of a bear. In that case I must say I didn't, but you never know! Right now and for my very first time I'm dating a guy that is almost a bear, a bit fat he hee. but reeeally cute.
And talking about animals I love bears and all woods fauna (rabbits, squirrels, eagles, etc).

She had a different quote on there for like a hundred years but last week she changed it to try and piss me off. It's a quote I recently posted from Stevie in which she thanks an audience after singing Landslide.
Her quote used to say THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS. Now it says YOU'RE PRETTY SPECIAL OUT THERE YOURSELF. And btw it should be the word YOURSELVES. If you're going to mock me at least you can get the word right.

Sports teams are about all we have left in the Land of Lincoln. Pray we don't get the Olympics. Besides the University of Illinois is (or would it be are) the Fighting Illini, no bears, at least not yet.
