I didn't know which forum to put this in so I just put it in this one. I was curious where this story originated from or was it just a fan rumour that's been passed around or did somebody actually witness it.

If some people don't know what I'm talking about the amplifier story is about Stevie and Lindsey getting caught having sex on an amplifier.

Makes me think of the speaker incident in Howard Stern's "Private Parts" movie  .

It's entirely possible... Lord knows they did FAR crazier things back in their drug fueled days. :p

Kinky. I think we had a discussion about this alleged incident a few years ago on the Ledge. I didn't think at the time that it made much logistical sense. What sort of amplifier was it? That sounds like an inane question -- until you remember that a bass stack can stand 6 or more feet off the ground.

The romantic in me would like to think that Lindsey & Stevie had sex atop Christine's Leslie 122 speaker cabinet, while the rotating horn was going round & round & round.

That would depend on the position, I think. You cannot assume missionary.

So apparently this is a fan rumour, I doubted whether Lindsey and Stevie would have sex out in the open like that especially on an amplifier.

Oh sillies, I'm sure it is a fan rumour. However, if something like that did happen, thats hilarious. And from that stupid book that Carol Ann wrote, Lindsey sounded like he was extremely passionate, so maybe it happened, haha. Although, Stevie seems far too much like a lady to do the deed on an amp, lol. HOWEVER, haha, who knows....the 70s were crazy. My real question is, I wonder if Stevie and Lindsey hooked up over the yrs even after they broke up?

I really believe that they did, atleast during the Dance period. When you look at most of Stevie's songs from TISL and SYW, they're very interesting. (And bitter!) I think of the songs ThrownDown and Fall From Grace, which were both written around the Dance period. (I know Thrown Down was, but I'm not sure about Fall From Grace.)

Thinking that Stevie and Lindsey "rekindled" their "relationship" during The Dance actually gives all of the sappy "we-still-love-eachother" crap that they pull onstage seem.... real, at least in a sense. Not to say I don't love all the handholding and hugging, because I'm completely obsessed with it... but its more powerful if there's concrete reason to believe that the love is still there, unlike if they really were completely finished 3o-something years ago.

I just came across this quote on inherownwords.com after not visiting the site for quite some time.... and I think it is rather appropriate for this thread :)

"Maybe when Lindsey and I are 60 years old, we'll look around and say, 'You know what, there just isn't anybody better around. Maybe we'll just get married or something.'"
~Stevie Nicks, New York Post, July 22, 1997

Although, Stevie seems far too much like a lady to do the deed on an amp, lol.

You obviously haven't heard the stories from Dave Stewart, Joe Walsh, Don Henley, and more. How can I say this properly... Stevie was QUITE "randy," especially during her drug fueled binges in the early/mid '80s. I'll have to see if I can find Dave Stewart's account of his Stevie encounter and post it on here. You can't forget either, she boinked half of all rock and roll men, and was reputed by Don Henley to have had many, many abortions. Stevie may act a bit prudish in some was regarding language and such, but she's all about carnal lust!

And I'm not one of those Stevie/Lindsey romantacists AT ALL. However, I DO believe she had either a physical or emotional affair with Lindsey during the Dance era. She's come out and said songs like Thrown Down, Fall From Grace, and others were about him, and were written in that timeframe. I also believe that they likely didn't stop sleeping together in 1977. How many times have we all slipped up and done the dirty with our exes? Especially when alcohol/other substances are involved? I do agree their relationship ended before Rumours hit store shelves, but their canoodling did NOT!

Here's the snippet from the Dave Stewart (from the Eurythmics) interview about Stevie:

When he first met Stevie Nicks (who just split up with Joe Walsh as he found out later) in 1984, she invited him to a private party consisting of not much more than "marching powder" and three more women. The song emerged when she asked Dave the next morning to better leave her house quickly after she just had sex with him (twice according to her) which was followed by some explosive situations involving Jimmy Iovine and Tom Petty.

Don't forget Joe Walsh said on Howard Stern that he "musta fcucked Stevie Nicks a million billion times." Our girl was no lady in the bedroom!

brysondt
06-25-2009, 07:39 AM
Joe really said that? It angers me how these men have gone out into the world and spilled all Stevie's business in the bedroom, especially stupid Don Henely, SO RUDE, and she STILL considers Joe to be some great love in her life. Poor Stevie...

When did Joe say that on Howard Stern? Does anybody know where you can listen or read that?

Is it ok if I write about Stevie having sex on a speaker instead?

I just read that excerpt where she is talking about Joni Mitchell and she mentioned that Keith Olson had speakers that were as tall as she is. Now, I don't know why she felt she had to mention how big Keith's speakers were:shrug:. Still, it gave me ideas.
So, that will be my fan fic topic.

I think she's done a fairly good job at keeping her "shaggin" business private. Who has she been getting it on with since "The Dance" tour? We're talking 12 years ago. You're telling me in that time she's not been getting any? Come on, now.

SO TRUE. Stevie is very discrete. I can't wait for her to write a book. But how much you wanna bet she writes nothing about all these passionate affairs. I bet she writes it super vague and pisses us all off.

Yeah, 12 yrs is along time, she's had to have a man at some point. What can we do to get her business out on the street? haha. Has everyone ever heard of anyone she's dated recently? Like...since The Dance?

So true. It's going to be entirely about her grandfather, Lindsey, then the early days of Fritz/Buckingham Nicks/Mac--- fast forward to Bella Donna-- fast forward to quitting coke-- fast foward to quitting Klonopin-- The Dance, done.

Oh, and she'll talk a lot about her writing, which is the thing that I am super interested in but most people won't want to hear all about her as a writer if they aren't hearing any of the juicy details of her life.

Scotsman.com interview, posted by Peter.

http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?t=34116

Does she have a man in her life now? “No, I don’t. I had a relationship three years ago with someone I’d gone out with a long time ago. It didn’t work out then and it didn’t work out now. It just proved my theory that you can never go back. Before that, in 1997, around the time of The Dance, I went out with somebody for a little over a year who was quite enamoured with me. I decided he was way too young for me, though. I was nearly 50 and he was nearly 30. We had a riot but I said that eventually he would make me feel extremely old, so I ended it. But I’m never not open to the possibility of romance.”

She says that her last relationship ended, or rather never really took off, because she made a huge amount of money in a publishing deal, and she was thrilled and excited but she couldn’t share it. “I was tickled, thrilled, and I made the mistake of telling somebody who was struggling in this business. As the words came out of my mouth, I could see that he didn’t think it was funny. So I knew our relationship was never going to work because I can’t be a person who is not going to share that moment.”

How about Stevie having sex with the speaker?
Back on stage as Lindsey takes up the song, Stevie slipps off stage as she usualy does. But as she passes one of the big speakers Lindsey's voice thunders out and carreses her. Startled she stops, looks around and slowly approaches the speaker feeling his voice throb deeply into her. She presses her self against it and feels her pluse quicken. She gasps and throws her head back and climaxes as he finishes the song with a shout. Quickly composing herself she slipps back on stage for her set. Meanwhile, the sound engeneers are totaly perplexed as to why PA Sub woffer stage left went all wonky. :p

Hey, super old-timer here. It seems I can log onto here once every few years and still catch a convo I can relate to... haha!! Once a SN/FM fan, always a fan.

Truly, I decided to check the ol' Ledge out because I saw the Kathy Griffin show the otehr day where she and Bette called Stevie, and I just about rolled over laughing at this thread!

Well, I was around and posting heavily during the days when this story was written, and there was a whole ring of us who passed around some pretty high quality fan fic, if I do say so myself, and I have to come out and defend this amp story and clear up its origins for you.

Back on what we used to call the "Old Ledge" (one single forum running board) around 1998 or so there was this guy who posted and told us that he was a roadie for the Mirage Tour. He posted because we were discussing pretty much what you are discussing now...which was whether or not Stevie and Lindsey ever got it on after their offical break up. He said that yes, they did because he and some other crew and the Tour manager were clearing the stage after a show and they saw Stevie's legs around Lindsey's back sticking out from behind a curtian (the show was in some kind of auditorium that had curtains). The Tour manger told them all that if they wanted to keep their jobs they had better get lost pronto. They guy never posted too much again after that, and then the Old Ledge crashed, and they story was gone. So.... one of our group wrote it up as a fan fic because we all thought it was a sexy story. So, to us, it was fiction based somewhat in fact. It very well could have happened. It is not total BS.

As for the logistics of it all, well, some of the old amps were big and and low and had carpet on top of them. Christine has talked about sleeping on top of these amps in the early days, so I would assume that if you could sleep on one, you could certainly get busy on one.

Hee! Glad it made you happy, as I recall it gave quite a tingle, too. Ah, nothing like young Stevie and Lindsey is there? Nobody today holds a candle to their hotness. A sexier pair has never been seen again.

Another bit of info I remembered about this, the guy did say the stage was dark after the show and that S&L abviously thought they were alone, so it wasn't right out in the open or immediately after the show. He described it as some kind of recessed area on the side of the stage, as I recall. A bunch of other posters piled on the guy and accused him of lying, so he never came back...which is a shame because he could have probably told some more stories. I thought he was legit, but some others didn't.

Another observation - If you watch the Mirage video, (and who hasn't about a billion times, eh?) Lindsey's underwear line in his linen pants magically appears and reappears. That is because the video was culled from two different shows, one of which LB was clearly going commando. So, who's to say he didn't have easy access for post-show tension release? As for Stevie, she used to wear those Danskin body suits and panyhose, so I don't know how she would have pulled that off...literally.

I used to have a big cache of really good S&L fan fic, but sadly I have lost it all.
Memories.

As for the logistics of it all, well, some of the old amps were big and and low and had carpet on top of them. Christine has talked about sleeping on top of these amps in the early days, so I would assume that if you could sleep on one, you could certainly get busy on one.

Ha. Thanks for clarifying. That was the info that I had heard too.

It exists?

You bet your platform boots it does! Or at least it did. Maybe someone else around here saved some of it like the Roadie Amp Story. Haha, we used to have some very good writers who came up with intelligent well-crafted stories. Some of it was fact-based and others were totally fictional what-could-have-been type stories like Stevie and Lindsey married with children, etc...

Oh believe me, I know there are some truly crappy and immature stories out there that are totally stupid and practically unreadable, but yes, there was some that was deliciously sublime.

There was this one story about Stevie and Lindsey in the back of a limo that was swoon-worthy! I would love ot read it again.

On another note, if Joe Walsh really said that about Stevie in a public setting, then he is skeevier than I thought, and I already didn't think much of him. He's the one who sent a car for her late at night for a booty call and took her first "acetate" of a new record. Then I think that same night he dumped her. Bleck. And Don Henley, while certainly a talented songwriter, is a spineless little fraction of a man when it comes to being honorable. With the exception of Lindsey, Stevie has terrible taste in men. And even Lindsey, though beautiful to look at, has had his moments, especially back in the day, kicking her on stage and all that. 70's afro Lindsey in his tight jeans and blue eyes was a thing to behold. Ah, I always said Stevie had him at the peak of freshness...not that he's not still a handsome guy, but young Lindsey was the yummiest.

I used to think this way too but then I realized that Stevie has a gift I wish I could possess: the art of loving someone for their inner beauty. Most people, myself included, are most concerned with outward appearences.

Well, I am not really referring to their outward appearances, but the way they have treated her, esp. Joe & Don. I meant she has terrible taste as far as personality goes. Don's not a bad looking guy, but he's an ass, hands down any day of the week. Like I said, LB had his moments of being a complete douche as well, but those blue eyes of his somehow must have made it easier, no?

Did you ever read that article from this century where Stevie says that every single day, no matter where she is in the world, Don has two dozen fresh cut roses sent to her? I'd hardly call that assinine behavior.
On another note I do not wish to offend you. Especially I am thrilled that you are posting again after not doing so for many years.

it was Stevie and someone else during the RAL tour...

A quote from right around The Dance, may I add.

i'd say it's the something going on now coz they aint married...despite wot some ppl may believe

In regards to Don H being an ass... well I can only go by personal experience.... I teleprompted one of his concerts and he was one of the nicest people I've worked with. During sound check and we were going over some of the lyrics (I only prompted several songs that weren't his), he saw a picture of my hubby next to my laptop and started asking about him and if he was coming to the show. I told that he was home - so Don arranged to have an all access crew pass left at will call for him. I thought that was a pretty nice thing to do. Also, after sound check, when we were all eating dinner, Don was very sweet and conversational. His son was there with him too.

But I guess everyone has their moment of assholedom, but I prefer to go by how someone personally treats me before I reach an opinion.

And about S & L (or whoever) on the amps.... I don't think I've ever seen the stage void of crew after a show. Soon as those houselights go up - it's strike time! Maybe they found a place where all the roadcases are kept - that can be pretty cavernous(sp?) Just my two cents....

Strand, you moved to NYC!? Ooh, I gotta find time to PM you and see what's up! I hope all is well.

About my saying Don was an ass, I admit I have not followed all things Stevie for several years now, but way back when, he didn't have a rep of being too nice a guy and most reports from people that worked with him the 70s and 80s cosistently came out with how self-serving and irritating he was, so I'm not saying he couldn't have changed his ways in the last decade. He did, in a rather self-centered way, put two obvious songs about Stevie (and Lindsey) on the Hotel California album that didn't paint either of them in a good light. Even in 1979 people knew it was about them and the rumor was that LB was none too happy about it. I always imagined some kind of scenario where Lindsey barged in on Don and his buddies and punched Don right in the face over the lyrics to Victim of Love. In reality he probably just pouted about it. I do readily admit Don is a superior song-writer to Lindsey.

And about the "cavernous" area beside the stage and such, yeah, I think so. My personal feeling about the anecdote as it was relayed has always been that it was more likely just some smooching and groping going on, not actual sex. I don't think they would have full-on intercourse right there either, but it is totally believeable that a fire was spontaneously lit right there that burned on into the night elsewhere.

Am I the only person who believes that "Life In The Fast Lane." is about Don and Stevie. Why would Don write about Stevie and Lindsey when Don was dating Stevie at that time. Plus all the wild things going on in that song pretty much sums up what Don and Stevie were going through in their relationship. "Call the doctor. I think think going to crash/doctor says he's coming but you got to pay in cash." That line is all about calling up your drug dealer cause you need your fix.Don and Stevie were living the wild life way more than Stevie and Lindsey were when they were a couple. I really think Stevie left her mark on Don more than she did Lindsey. Don sends her flowers on her birthday. I've been told that a number of Don's songs have been about Stevie. "Wasted Time" and "The Long Run" are two and "Not Enough Love In The World" is also about Stevie.

Oh man, do I love the RAL period. Coked up, wild woman Stevie is the best. I've heard the Mirage story too but it really sounds like something that would happen during RAL. All the stories that have come out of the whole WH/RAL period are better than any fan fiction someone could write.

Don was writing from his perspective of the SnL relationship, as a third person who questioned the "ongoing" thing Stevie had with Lindsey. He addresses it bluntly in VOL. "You say he's a liar and he put out your fire, how come you still got his gun in his hand?...What kind of love have you got?" Sounds like Don is playing confidante quite nicely and I think he offered her good times, but more than that - a great friendship from someone who could relate to the high cost of fame and the craziness of being a front person in a hugely successful band.

I would be curious to know how many other songs Stevie and Lindsey/Stevie and/or Lindsey inspired!

Gary Hodges said in his Q&A session posted here (http://www.fleetwoodmac.net/fwm/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=120&Itemid=139)that LITFL was written about SnL:

Stevie and Lindsey were very much in love; they had their disagreements just like any couple would. She was a very beautiful girl, you know, and Lindsey was kinda of possessive of her…hey I would have been, too. No, I don't recall any fighting; you know, I believe "Life in the Fast Lane" is written about them, as a matter of fact, it is. - Gary "Hoppy" Hodges

I then followed up with a question about that to Hoppy (Gary Hodges). Wasn't Life in the fast lane written before Don knew Stevie or Lindsey? I'm still not sure it is really about them. It could be about anybody in the "scene" in those days. All the stories are pretty similar.

Ha. Well, it certainly would have helped both Hotel California and Rumours record sales to have the SnL notion going around. I suspect they were at least aware of the others and had been for a while, although it was probably like most songs - largely fiction based on a small truth or theme they were trying to convey. It certainly is a "story" song.

There was an article in Playboy sometime during the eighties. It was about some groupie chick who had sex with all these famouse musicians. She said that she and Stevie were, instead of sisters of the moon, were "sisters of the d#*k" because she and Stevie had slept with so many of the same men. She named a bunch but I don't remember exactly who. I think she may have mentioned Joe Walsh. She definitely mention Mick Fleetwood. Sorry to revive such an old thread but I saw some old buddies in here (Oh my gosh, Sharon!) and the topic interests me - I know stuff about SnL fanfic AND her dalliances with Eagles! lol

Back in the day we had some rockin' hot fanfic. But, all good things must come to an end. About 2004 was when it kind of started to die. I never did finish that freaking novel-sized fanfic "Designs of Love."

I've never heard Henley or Walsh admit to writing anything about Stevie. I've also never heard about Walsh going on Stern and saying he f--ked her a lot (although undoubtedly he did), but I have footage of him mocking her during a concert in 1991. Also, someone who heard the initial radio show told me that he called her a "road f-ck" on Howard Stern around the same time, but I've never heard that audio myself. However, he was pretty messed up then and seems to be on the right track now... sober since Hell Freezes Over and recently married to his fifth wife!

Henley never said she had a bunch of abortions. Circa 1990, he said that she had aborted his child - or at least it was his child "to the best of [his] knowledge" - but that was it. I have not heard of this roses-every-day thing, but I have heard that he sent her 50 silver roses on her 50th birthday. I think he can be a douche and has been on many occasions, but he can also be a nice guy and they're still friends, so... what can you say? More good than bad about Mr. Henley, one can only assume.

I've always thought "Life in the Fast Lane" sounded like SnL or at least Stevie. However, I heard "Wasted Time" was about another ex, and I've never even heard it speculated before that "The Long Run" was about her. I have to admit, though, that I've wondered about "Not Enough Love in the World".... still, no confirmation on any of these (except from Gary Hodges about LITFL). That song was written after or during Don and Stevie's "relationship" - she calls him "her first boyfriend after Lindsey" but the timeline doesn't really sync up.... in other words, it looks like she might have paid Henley a few "visits" before she and Lindsey were over for good, going back and forth between the two. According to Don Felder, Henley flew Stevie out to "visit" him many times when they were both touring, sending Lear Jets to pick her up. Ouch! No wonder Lindsey still takes digs at Henley and the Eagles 'til this day. "The Eagles are just in it for the money, not like Fleetwood Mac...." "Fleetwood Mac is a REAL band, not like the Eagles"....

Bubba, where did you hear about the Henley songs? I would have to politely disagree with you that Henley has written more songs about Stevie than Lindsey has. Henley has never even admitted to writing ONE song about her! I do believe she inspired a few references, but I have no proof.

Naila, I don't know if you were joking or not, but Dirty Laundry is not about Nancy Grace (although Henley dedicates the song to her occasionally in concert). It was much more generalized in its anger, and was written in 1981 long before Nancy Grace was a blip on the radar screen in the public consciousness.

Both Walsh and Henley have not shared any wild stories about sex with Stevie. You won't find any quotes from them that echo what Dave Stewart said. I'm not saying she wasn't kinky; I'm just correcting the notion that THEY said so.

Fun topic, even if it is a couple months old!

P.S. On a somewhat related note - I saw this in another old thread but it was too old to revive reasonably, lol. Glenn Frey did not have a liver transplant in 1994. He had a severe attack of diverticulits (http://www.glennfreyonline.com/articles/illness.htm) which necessitated part of his colon being surgically removed. Just semantics, honestly, because he has admitted it was caused by too much partying! As for Henley being a cokehead... well, if so, he sure hides it well. He's never appeared coked up when performing onstage lately (I've read a lot of fan reviews) nor doing interviews. The last I heard of him doing coke was the early nineties.

Really nice post, Nancy, tons to think about in it. Regarding the 'bubble-head bleach blonde comes on at 5, she can tell ya 'bout the plane crash with a gleam in her eye'---
my dorm-mate and I just 'knew' (strongly suspected) Henley was referencing LA newswoman Christine Lund. She was quite likeable, and did the KABC News at 5pm every day, and fit the description quite perfectly- Her eyes did gleam, and her head was quite bubble-ish, she was fun to look at! Gosh, this is like 28 years ago, I can't believe it. Christine did hard news, but also would do a lot of celebrity coverage (this was LA, after all) and it wouldn't surprise me if Don meant her, I still think it had to be her.
I should do a YouTube search, I really liked Christine Lund, and apparantly, she had quite the 'life in the fast lane' herself that lead to rehab. I wonder if she's still on the air.
I do think 'Miss Ghost' on Don's last solo cd had to be about Stevie. Quirky song.
Lastly- I do think Don's 'Shangri La' - which was a great track on his 3rd solo cd 'The End of The Innocence'- got rather ripped off by Stevie- she took his idea and expanded upon it. 'This ain't no shangri-la' sang Don, it had a clever lyric that may also have referenced Stevie- a couple lines in it made me think of her, one went something like 'never thought you'd carry the weight of the world on your pretty blonde hair'. It could have been meant for any blonde Henley had in mind, but at the time, circa 1990, I thought it was Don singing about Stevie. It was a cpl yrs, I believe, that we knew 'Trouble In Shangri La' was going to be the title of Stevie's next cd, and I thought "she got that title from Henley's song," which I think was good enough to have been a hit single had it ever been released.

Thanks for pointing this out, Nancy - the timeline doesn't sync up for LITFL, does it? Of course, it doesn't sync up for a lot of things. Eh.

Also, I don't think LB's that affected by Henley's "relationship" with Stevie. He dedicated "Big Love" to "Sharon, Don and kids" on "The Dance" tour in Dallas. And, he seemed to handle being around him just fine at the AHI benefit in 2000. Lindsey contributed to Henley's Building the Perfect Beast album in '84, playing guitar and doing harmony vocals. During press for SYW in 2003, Lindsey and Mick were doing a tv interview and the "Don sent Stevie flowers backstage incident" was brought up - to which Lindsey responded, "that would have been small potatoes in my book."
http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn92/trufan70/lb/LBsmallpotatoes.jpg

However, I do think LB likes to use The Eagles as the antithesis of what Fleetwood Mac represents musically - and I would guess there must be a lot of inside digs of that nature floating around. He and Don actually strike me as a couple of guys who probably "get" each other pretty well...

Thanks for the kind words, Nik! I've always thought "Miss Ghost" was about her too, but I always figured Shangri-La was such a common idea that it was simply coincidence they both had songs about it or referencing it. Who knows, though! Stevie often "borrows." lol

CADreaming - you may very well be right about there being no hard feelings, and that the digs at the Eagles are more about Lindsey seeing them as a symbol of what FM isn't - it just seems odd to me that he would come to that conclusion. Fleetwood Mac is just as interested in making money as the Eagles are. You can bet your sweet bippy that if they thought they could command $200 per ticket as the Eagles do, they'd charge it. It seems somewhat hypocritical for Lindsey to keep pointing at them and declaring them to be greedier and less sincere, and one wonders why he does it.

P.S. The small potatoes comment - LOL!!

Interesting, Nancy, and you may be right that 'Shangri La' is a "public domain" kind of reference, it doesn't seem so, to me, but that doesn't mean I'm right :)
Years before, I was also a little "oh, she lifted that line" when I heard 'timeless is the prisoner in disguise' in her otherwise uniquely-hers "Beauty and The Beast"--- the prisoner in disguise line I immediately traced back to my childhood and a songwriter I loved then, JD Souther, who wrote the song 'Prisoner In Disguise' which I admired a lot as sung by Linda R- I don't know if JD ever released a version of it.
I really liked Stevie's gorgeous song, and the preceding line 'timeless is the creature who is wise'-- very nice...but when I heard her rhyme that with 'prisoner in disguise' I thought "that's not right of her to do"-- and the term 'prisoner in disguise' I don't think was in the American vernacular, was it? (US via Prague, for me), but I'd never heard it before JD Souther's title song, and for Stevie to put it in her song I thought was uncool...oh, one interview, likely on YouTube now, I recall Stevie, as she sometimes did, and does still, quoted a line of her own lyrics when responding to an interviewer's question, when in a tv interview circa 1983 she recited 'timeless is the creature is wise, and timeless is the prisoner in disguise'- and she did so with a great hushed reverence for her own poetic artistry. It was a bit precious of her, because for me, that line was JD Souther's idea. And 'shangri la' was Don's. I know she's thanked Tom Petty and Don for inspiration, so it's not that it matters a whole lot to me, I just notice things like intellectual property, as I think artists who really love their own writing do not borrow key words, phrases, or anything from another writer. That's different than 'inspiration', in my opinion.
It's interesting to me, in terms of fair play, that Don lifts a trait of Stevie's on occassion: When being interviewed, he will sometimes quote a line of a lyric of his that he particularly likes :)
I think it's goofy of them, both, unless, of course, the interviewer had asked: "tell me now, what is a lyric you've written that you love to work into conversations that you have?"

(and I do think for certain it was Stevie who began quoting her own lyrics in broadcast and print interviews, before Don did it).

Haha! Hyprocritical, for sure but that's just the way he rolls! In his mind, I don't think it's that way but...

I think it does become difficult as a writer to be totally original. There is, after all, nothing "new" under the sun, so to speak. (I borrowed that, by the way.) :) So, a writer hears or reads something that suddenly turns the 'must use in song' switch on. I would love to be a fly on the wall at a party with all these great songwriters and hear someone utter a catchy phrase. The look that would come over their faces as they all scrambled for a pen would be priceless...I can see them fighting over the cocktail napkins now!

"As you know, we're always looking for stuff we can rip off." - Lindsey Buckingham 2008
I'm going to re post my thread that shows all the phrases Stevie has ripped off from Oscar Wilde. The most shocking to me was the words she lifted for Rooms On Fire.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

READ ON WITH CAUTION AND SADNESS AND POSSIBLE DISAPPOINTMENT

We know how Stevie gets some lyrics from outside sources, but I was totally surprised how much she gets from Oscar Wilde! Some of "Rooms on Fire" "Tragedy of One's Own Soul" "Paper Doll" "Freedom" "Fire Burning" "Have No Heart" "Kick It" and "Lily Girl" get lyrics from his writing.

Fire Burning

Wilde: "A huge fire was blazing."
Stevie (Fire Burning): "A huge fire was burning"
Wilde: "His eyes grew strangely bright."
Stevie (Fire Burning): "And her eyes grew strangely bright"

Rooms on Fire

Wilde: "Out of the unreal shadows of the night comes the real life that we had known."
Stevie (Rooms On Fire): "Somewhere out of the back of your mind comes your real life and the life that you know."
Wilde: "He hated to be separated from the picture that was such a part of his life,"
Stevie (Rooms On Fire): "he hated to be separated... from that picture"
Wilde: "He would laugh at anyone who tried to taunt him"
Stevie (Rooms On Fire): "she laughed and she cried and she tried to taunt him"

Tragedy of One's Own Soul

Wilde: "Yet, after some time, he wearied of them, and would sit in his box at the Opera, either alone or with Lord Henry, listening in rapt pleasure to Tannhauser, and seeing in the prelude to that great work of art a presentation of the tragedy of his own soul." (Tragedy of One's Soul) "presentation of the tragedy of his own soul" "For some reason or other, the house was crowded that night..."
Stevie (Tragedy of One's Own Soul): "House is full tonight"

Paper Doll

Wilde: "'I like men who have a future, and women who have a past,' he answered."
Stevie (Paper Doll): "you like a man with a future... you like a woman with a past"

Freedom

Wilde: "When that high spirit, that morning star of evil, it was as a rebel that he fell."
Stevie (Freedom): "Beautiful as you are, with that high spirit... morning star of evil hit me" .
Wilde: "Dim and wavering as was the wind-blown light, yet it served to show him the hideous error, into which he had fallen,"
Stevie (Freedom): "Dim and wavering on a wind-blown night" & "As was the wind-blown night into which she'd fallen"

Have No Heart

Stevie's song Have No Heart parallels the story of The Birthday of the Infanta.
Wilde: "'But why will he not dance again?' asked the Infanta, laughing."
Stevie (Have No Heart): "why will he not dance again?"
Stevie (Have No Heart): "If he had lived, well, he might have made the king smile"
Wilde: "'For the future let those who come to play with me have no hearts,' she cried, and she ran into the garden"
Stevie (Have No Heart): "well, in the future send no one to me who has a heart"

Kick It

Wilde: "'I am waited for in Egypt,' said the Swallow."
Stevie (Kick It): "Well I'm waited for in Egypt"
Wilde: "'I will stay with you one night longer' said the Swallow."
Stevie (Kick It): "I'll stay with you one more night"

Lily Girl

Wilde: "A LILY-GIRL, not made for this world's pain/ With brown, soft hair close braided by her ears/ And longing eyes half veiled by slumberous tears/ Like bluest water seen through mists of rain"
Stevie (Lily Girl): "She was a Lily Girl, not made for this world/ Veiled eyes covering nights of tears, nights of tears/ Like the blue, blue water and the crystal fountains"

Yes, definitely. To say Shangri-la is almost no different than saying "garden of Eden" at this point in time.
