I bought his cd just so I could have it as part of my Stevie collection. I think I've listened to it only 2 or 3 times - it's horrible.

I got the CD several years ago. I always liked the music, especially the slow intro, but I never really cared for the vocal.

If it's anything like his cover album of 1970s pop and rock songs which I picked up in a bargain bin it must be abysmal.

Oh dear. I love finding random cover versions but this one just doesn't do it for me at all! This is a shame because Rod is great! I just don't think anyone could really pull this song off other than Stevie.

I LOOOOVE "Stand Back"...play it all the time to the point my friends and family tell me to skip it if it comes on the radio, iPod, whatever, lol. It's a great song and just gets me up and energized...but this cover...umm...I think we couldn't lived without it, lol. Not impressed with it at all. Just something about it strikes me as a little off. I heard it once through, I can go on now not hearing it again by Rod, lol.

Rod's version is better than Stevie's, for my money. The strings are lush & stirring & they add romance & melodrama. I also love the backup singing on the Rod version. He took a dance track & turned it into something cinematic & grandiose.

I don't like it. It's not terrible, but it doesn't work for me.

That one by Rod Stewart sucks. Maybe you'll like this remix created by someone else. I wonder where he got the cool Stevie wail at the 7:09 mark?

I hate Rod Stewart...I don't hate this. It's just odd. The intro with the strings is very nice. but when it comes to the actually song...well it just seems weird coming from a guy I think. I'd rather listen to this than "Forever Young" any day.

I agree completely. I've liked it for a long time.

I love it to pieces, have done for ages. Although I'm not a fan of covers generally, and especially not Stevie covers, I have yet to hear a version of Stand Back that I don't like. Just one of those songs...! :)
