[USA Today, except from article talking about Kathy's new tv season. Maybe we'll hear Stevie on the phone]

June 7, 2009

http://www.usatoday.com/life/television/news/2009-06-07-griffin-dlist_N.htm

When you sit down with Bette Midler, you don't want to waste your time with small talk," says Griffin, who proceeds to ask Midler whether her 1990 hit, Wind Beneath My Wings, is about flatulence.

Griffin also bugs Midler for advice on how she can get her comedy album based on her popular stand-up act, For Your Consideration, a Grammy nod — a request that prompts Midler to phone Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks. (Neither offers much help, but that album, which was eventually nominated, did not win at this year's Grammy Awards.)

So I am watching the Kathy Griffin Show and Stevie was mentioned..Kathy is hanging out with Bette Midler and Kathy asked Bette how she can go about winning a Grammy award and who she can call to vote for her and etc. and Bette was like "What about Stevie Nicks? She's won a lot of Grammy's" So Bette calls up Stevie; Kathy and Bette just start chatting with Stevie. Stevie's saying how she's in rehersal's with Fleetwood Mac and starts chatting about Lindsey and her relasionship. Then soon finds out Stevie isnt even in the Grammy's voting thing.

So this is like MY ALL TIME FAV episode...lol

How freaking hilarious was that? lol. I was dying. Stevie's like, yeah I don't think I'm a voting member right after she told Kathy, "you so have my vote." What a trip.

That was a great surprise!! I was not expecting that, so when they got out the speaker phone i could not believe it. Stevie, of coarse, was a sweetheart, and Kathy's comments about "Stevie and Lindsey hooking up" were histerical!

Stevie was pretty funny. I'm too lazy to turn on the tv and actually type the caption while I'm online, but I couldn't really understand what Stevie meant. I don't know if she was talking about the quality of the show she and Lindsey put on or their fights, because it almost sounded like she was saying that sometimes a Fleetwood Mac show is good and sometimes it's not. Of course, I think she intended to say that sometimes she and Lindsey get along and sometimes they don't -- which we all know -- but her words were very disjointed. She promised to get Bette and Kathy tickets to the Fleetwood Mac show.

She said something like, 'You'll have front row center. But Fleetwood Mac is iffy, because the electric thing between me and Lindsey, uh, sometimes it's good and sometimes it's . . . well, it's always good, but sometimes it's like that Scoopy Doo thing you do. Oop!"

Of course, it was hilarious the way Kathy turned that confusing statement around and claimed that Stevie said that she and Lindsey might hook up again. She said she hadn't wanted to ask Stevie about Lindsey, but Stevie just "spilled" spontaneously.

But if she knows about the Scooby Doo impression, Stevie probably really is a fan of Kathy's, like she said she was.

God bless her, Stevie came across every bit as dipsy and kooky as I hoped she would!

Yeah, that kinda surprised me that Stevie called Kathy her 'favorite comedienne,' as vulgar as she is (gotta love how she purged after leaving Miss Midler  ). Then again, Kathy and Stevie are united in their cause against Lohan :laugh::laugh: .

was that the "scooby doo" thing Kathy did during her Ann Coulter bit during her "Everyone Can Suck It" show? I didn't put two and two together until just now when you mentioned it LOL I just thought Stevie was randomly referencing Scooby Doo!!

If anyone here hasn't heard, tune in to the premiere 1st episode for this seasons, "Kathy Griffin: My life on the D-list" She flies to Vegas to see Bette Midler show, "The Showgirl Must Go On", and after Bette's performance, during a private dinner, Kathy asks Bette some advice on how to react to a Grammy win, so Bette calls Stevie! They talk aloud on speaker phone....I saw it last nite...It blew me away!

Besides being a long time friend, Stevie has been a Bette Midler fan since the 70's.
I have a Wild Heart Interview of her on the road/tour for WH, and she told the Interviewer she never goes on tour w/out her copy of the film, "The Rose"
LOVE IT!

It's funny because Kathy had joked with Anderson Cooper about that. He asked her what she liked to be called, comedian or comedienne and she told him that "comedienne" was sexist and pretended to be insulted that he said it. So, Stevie must have seen that and made a point of saying that Kathy was a comedienne because she's a "lady".

Summary from Yahoo (taken from television without pity)

http://tv.yahoo.com/kathy-griffin-my-life-on-the-d-list/show/place-your-bette/episode/209212/recap

Kathy brings up the Grammy award. Bette tells her she can't vote for her because she's not in the Academy. Bette offers to get Stevie Nicks on the phone. Kathy is extravagantly disbelieving that anyone can just pick up the phone and call Stevie Nicks. She's another one; her names just run together into one word: "Hello, Stevienicks!" calls Kathy. Stevienicks sounds friendly enough on the phone and is sure to get in a plug for Fleetwood Mac, who are apparently together again for the moment. However, Stevienicks encourages Bette and Kathy (and us, I guess) to see the show early in the tour, because there's a chance she'll hook up with Lindsey Buckingham out on the road, and you know how that goes. Kathy is delighted to be getting celebrity dirt she didn't even have to dig for. Stevienicks promises Kathy that she's got her Grammy vote, because she is her favorite comedienne. After Stevienicks explains that a comedienne is a lady comedian, Kathy gloats about being called a "lady". Bette is unconvinced. Then Stevienicks admits that she's not a voting member anyway and Kathy is understandably frustrated. Kathy tells Bette that Stevienicks is a wiccan, and quickly gets carried away with making things up about Stevienicks's coven.

If anybody watches Kathy Griffin-My Life on the D-List, the season premiere last night had Bette Midler calling Stevie Nicks so that Kathy could ask her if she would vote for her if she was nominated for a grammy for best comedy album. LOL It was short but pretty funny! It re-airs on the Bravo channel several times this week! Check it out if you're interested.

I guess you don't watch the show much? The whole point of the series is Kathy being a low level celebrity, and desperately trying to climb up ranks. If someone can't bolster her fame, she just bypasses them. It's all a big joke at this point, obviously Kathy has carved herself quite a solid footing as a very respected and famous comedian. No Stevie fans should be offended... Kathy would sh!t on her Father's grave if it'd get her an ounce of publicity  . Honestly, I thought she was EXTREMELY light on Stevie... she didn't make fun of her for being a rambling, nonsensical kook, or a has been dried up former drug addict. For Kathy, she was absolutely reverent of La Nicks  .

These shows are so scripted. It's no different (no more genuine) than Stevie making a guest appearance on Seinfeld and having George Costanza hang up on her.

Oh, I know. That's another reason why no Stevie fan should get wound up about Kathy "hanging up" on Stevie. It was probably just edited to look like she hung up on her anyway. I know reality TV is trash, but I've always enjoyed My Life On The D-List anyway :D .

Gotcha! It's so hard to tell someone's tone online, seems I'm always guessing it wrong :p .

You're right, Kathy can be kinda evil. I can imagine that's why her assistant Jessica is no longer with her. Kathy seems like she can be an absolute riot, but also a demanding, fake, social climbing bitch lol. Oh well, I think pretty much all celebs are that way... Yeah, and Stevie and Madonna share Liz Rosenberg as a publicist. Just look at how many people in Stevie's/Fleetwood Mac's backing bands have worked for scores of other artists too. I think Hollywood is a much smaller world than most of us probably realize.

Plus, I think that La Nicks makes a point of taking care of her loyal peeps. I also think she is very generous in ways we hear little about, like when she had the Ritz Carlton send room service down to the fire fighters and police in D.C. There are also many stories about some medical service she paid for or some other kind act that are passed down through the grapevine.

On the flip side, can you imagine how many people try to take advantage of her

I looked it up - lots of reviews on yelp.com. It's the snack bar at Mermaid's on Fremont St., which they show briefly on the D-List. There's a .99 Nathan's hot dog place next to it. Sounds like the servers are kinda rude, and there's an issue w/ the grease not always being ready. It's a slots-only casino (no hotel) w/ lots of nickel and penny games (like the one Bette played) and strong cocktails! I am SO going there the next time I'm in Vegas.
