For some time now I have been thinking about whom else has recorded tracks written by Peter Green.
There is the obvious one of Santana with BMW, and there are several others that I can think of.
I think that it would be interesting in its diversity....

Aside from tribute album tracks, other ones I can think of off the top of my head:
Green Manalishi - Judas Priest (awful version IMHO, but....)
Stop Messin' Around - Aerosmith
Rattlesnake Shake - Aerosmith
Black Magic Woman - Snowy White
Albatross - Chris Coco
Must be many more....

Of course there has been the Rick Vito covers both for his solo albums and for the Mick Fleetwood Blues Band - Rattlesnake Shake, I Loved Another Woman, Albatross, etc
Plus Billy Burnette did a cover of Oh Well on his Memphis in Manhattan album and Bob Welch did Black Magic Woman on "His Fleetwood Mac Years and Beyond Two" album.

Green Manalishi - The Melvins (great version, too)
Thanks, ChiliD - totally forgot about the Melvins' version!

Agree, it's pretty cool - they clearly "get" the song while the better-known Judas Priest version completely misses the mark.
And, from Wikipedia, here are other Green Manalishi cover versions:
The song was covered by the Melvins on their 1999 album The Maggot.
The song was covered by Steel on their 1998 Heavy Metal Machine EP.
The song was covered by Arthur Brown on the 1997 tribute album, "Rattlesnake Guitar: The Music of Peter Green."
The song was covered by Therion, though they were actually covering Judas Priest's version.
The song was covered by Ian Parker on his 2005 live album ...Whilst the Wind.
The song was covered by Corrosion of Conformity on their 1983 album Eye for an Eye.
Just noticed that the Wikipedia article states that Fleetwood Mac recorded "The Green Manalishi" and "World in Harmony" in April 1970 - in Hollywood. Ummm....I don't think so.

I think it says that in Celmins book, too - they recorded the basic track in Hollywood (Carlos Santana made a visit, and the jammed together! :D) and did overdubs at De Lane Lea, London.
I can't find my copy of the book, but that's how i remember it.

They may have done that, ohwell - but they obviously weren't anywhere near Hollywood in April 1970, contrary to what the Wikipedia article says. That's all I wanted to point out.

Where was Green Manalishi recorded?
If Carlos Santana was there, he was not alone.
according to the legend, Mr Winter was supposed to have played a lead guitar track in that mix too.
it must have been a crowed studio, wherever it was. my guess is that it was in several places over a prolonged period of time. Where was the parking garage that they ended up getting the echo in peters voice at the end? Jeremy Spencer was there helping Peter.
39 years is long enough for this to be shrouded in mystery

I think from the Hjort book, FM recorded an early Manalishi in Hollywood 1/1970. This is around the time they recorded Playboy After Dark. Manalishi and World in Harmony were completed 4/70 in London. I'm sure that was when Jeremy said "Hey Peter, do you want some echo? I have an idea." The result is one of the eeriest recordings ever made. Judas Priest never got it, but the Melvins did.

I bet they recorded some of the jams, too, since they were in a studio! If only reprise would properly re-release all the fleetwood mac albums - remastered with bonus tracks like that!
The garage-reverb was in London, at De Lane Lea - Jeremy talks about it in the documentary 'man of the world'.

Hello!:wavey: I'm new here, I guess (more of a reader than a writer).
A quiet weird cover of "Man of the World" I just came across recently:
Chris Farlowe on this 1986 released album "Born again". It is one of the bonus tracks.

The producer was a guy called Mike Vernon. You remember him?

No kidding! "Then Play On" is long overdue for a proper re-issue. I swear I can hear record pops during "Closing My Eyes" on the CD. If I'm right, they didn't even use the master tapes for the digital transfer.

In the "Vaudeville Years" notes there's a part where Martin Birch talks about the pops in which he says there was something wrong with the multi track machine they were using so every drop-in he did had a very audible click so by the end of that session the track was a mess of clicks and the day after the session he'd go to the studio to cut out each of those clicks by hand and even then they couldn't remove them all as we can hear, probably due to all that existed (or didn't exist as it were)back then they had to work with.
I agree though, I'd love a expanded TPO. :)
