SACRAMENTO, CA - The Fleetwood Mac concert scheduled for 8 p.m. Monday night at Arco Arena has been cancelled.

Arena officials said they are still confirming whether or not the concert has been postponed to a later date or cancelled for good.

Sacramento was one of the last stops on the popular blues rock band's "Unleashed" tour that started in March.

UGH!! This does not bode well for the Oakland show. I was actually gonna hit Sacramento tonight as a walk up to catch the show. Any idea what the reason is for this cancellation? Illness? Low ticket sales? I heard tickets sales were pretty good and due to the timing of the cancellation I have to bet it''s illness. Now the rumours will begin to fly again about it being Stevie and the droopy eyes and the limp and the half alseep performances...LOL.

I hope this is a the LAST cancellation for the sake of the fans. There are so many fans that spend tons of money (outisde the price of the ticket) to get a FM concert. Because FM has 3 shows within a 2 hr drive of each other (Sacramento, Oakland, San Jose) a cancellation of one show is maybe not as much of a hardship as it is to other cities but it still is hard!

I hope we get FM on Wednesday. If anyone knows what is going on please share. Thanks! :blob1:

I have to believe these cancellations are due to serious reasons known only to them. That being said, it is an EXTREME hardship for fans these days to make the financial commitment to attend concerts at these prices. It behooves the bands to reschedule and/or release a more descriptive statement as to why the cancellation. I continue to believe that FM puts their fans first! :blob1:

I think from all indications of her performances so far that La Nicks just does not want to be there..I usually get tickets for both the Oracle and Arco arenas but not this time. They should not have even bothered with this tour. The '"reasons" for it have rang hollow from the get go.

Ya know.. they just had an earthquake in SoCAL, so maybe they had to fly home to check things out? Hmm... who knows? If it's illness, I sure hope whomever is ill... recovers well. So much junk going around now... flu, etc.....

I feel bad for the band and for the fans. Maybe, FM needs to cut down on the shows now that they are older. I couldn't do what they do at my age and I'm younger than they are. It has to be exhausting touring as much as they do.

WOW! I am shocked at this...if the real reason is lagging sales or the schedule that is catching up with them, these shows could have been cancelled weeks ago. It must be bad for them to cancel shows the day of, whatever the reason.

I keep thinking of Stevie's famous Rolling Stone interview back in the 70's when she said "you cannot call in sick to Fleetwood Mac".

I am sorry for the No Cal FM fans too...

Uh it's "Nor Cal" here.Really cancelling FM shows because of La Nick's health (if that is indeed the reason this time)is really nothing new ..a few weeks worth were cancelled on the first leg of the Rumours tour and the Forum shows on the Mirage tour that were taped for Showtime had been postponed due to Stevie having "walking pnuemonia".This time though as I mentioned I don't think she even wants to be there at all.I wasn't fooled .I didn't even buy tickets for this one and this from someone that has been attending FM shows since 1979.

Well given Stevie's drug use back then, I guess it would be understandable (but no less forgiveable) that shows were cancelled then. I guess I have come to expect that since everyone is cleaned up, older and operating as much a business as a band, the last minute cancellations are surprising to me. I saw them a few weeks ago and am wondering if I saw them peak for the tour.

I am still going to Vegas. This could be it for the band for a very long time.

Unless there is an official source there is no way to say that it IS Stevie. While it wouldn't surprise me if it were there is no way for me to verify. As for the quake in SoCal...quakes in California are hohum for the most part and reports from SoCal are that it was minor. Cancelling a date for that reason does not seem logical. Illness is valid and I would agree that they need to do less shows especially in NoCal where as I stated before they scheduled 3 shows (Sacramento, Oakland, San Jose) within 2 hr drives of each other.

I am not sure about Stevie not wanting to be there but she has had a hectic traveling schedule in the last couple of years and it would not surprise me that she may be both physically and mentally tired. As always I remain the guy with the glass more than 1/2 full rather than the reverse. I respect the band as a whole too much to "assume" anything but am cognizant of all possibilites. Let's hope they are all well or getting better if one or more are sick and let the tour continue for those who are awaiting their arrival. :blob1:

It would be nice to give more than 24 hours (or 12 hours) notice, if at all possible.

Except for Arizona and New Orleans, I have no plans to travel anywhere else to see them, not even to Vegas, but if I'd been going to Sacramento, I'd be upset, not because of the cancellation, but because of the short notice.

I can guarantee it wasn't due to the Earthquake last night. My wife didn't even feel it and I told her I thought I felt the couch move for a second. It was a mild earthquake at best.
So someone must be sick. Hope they don't cancel Los Angeles. Get well whoever it is. We need the full Rock Show!!!!

Unless somebody is sick, this is bull****. I'm sick of seeing shows getting canceled literally hours before they begin. I, along with many other fans, paid a pretty penny to see these guys and now they bail out on us? Nice.

By the way, if Stevie (or anyone else) doesn't want to be on tour (as it appears to be, unless she is legitimately sick), then why the hell would they agree to going on tour? It's a bummer and it's getting ridiculous.

As for the quake in SoCal...quakes in California are hohum for the most part and reports from SoCal are that it was minor. Cancelling a date for that reason does not seem logical.I agree. This wasn't that kind of quake, & it would have had absolutely no effect in the Sacramento region anyway. That's 400 miles away from Los Angeles. Seismic waves attenuate rapidly throughout most of California (unlike Missouri).

I hope that whoever is ill will soon be feeling better, & that it's not gravely serious.

Man, this is sad to see. :( I just wish there was more of a forthright explanation of these cancellations, rather than just the vague 'undisclosed illness' statement issued last Tuesday. It would be nice to hear something coming directly from the band, perhaps one of the members making a quick statement into a camera with a genuinely heartfelt "We're so sorry for the fans who've paid dearly, made travelling plans, taken days off work to be there, but here's what's happened... " I think they at least owe their fans that.

Yes, this is exactly correct. If you got specific and said, one of the members has bronchitis and would not be able to perform at full capacity, we want to postpone the show and reschedule on another date to give you your money's worth, I think we would all be perfectly happy with that.

"Undisclosed illness" sounds phony and melodramatic. I will only forgive 'em if one of them has the black plague. Swine flu would not be enough to justify such mystery.

Agreed, I'm going to the Oakland show from central ca. and have Wed. Thur, & Friday off! So now wondering if I should change my schedule or not. Of cource I'll wait till tomorrow to see whats up, but to canc. a show 12 hrs. before the show is really pushing it. You would think one must be pretty darn sick to canc. any show, but here in California!!

ARCO Arena
Sacramento

Fleetwood Mac has postponed their scheduled show for tonight, May 18th at the ARCO Arena in Sacramento due to illness.

A rescheduled date will be announced soon.

Tickets that were purchased for the May 18th ARCO Arena show will be honored at the newly rescheduled date.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

This is the statement released by Live Nation. I rec'd it via email. I'm not going to cry in my soup, but I was laid off 4 months ago. My wife and I bought tickets ($300+) in March. It was something we were really looking forward to. This fukcing sucks!!

However, if it is an illness, I hope everything's OK.

Would someone explain how this works? I mean I don't think Mac is going to back track and play any cancelled venues right? Will TicketMaster hopefully give us a full refund??

Thanks!

What a bummer. :(

I'm so sorry to all the fans that were so looking forward to tonight's show.

As others have mentioned, I do find it somewhat rude that they (band, management, whoever) wait until practically the last minute to cancel/postpone the show. Hardcore fans surely have been counting down the hours and minutes until showtime! I hope that whatever the rescheduled date is, that all the fans here that had tickets are able to go.

As for the band... I sure hope whoever is sick (*cough cough* Stevie *cough cough*) gets better ASAP. I just cannot make myself believe that they're cancelling because a band member (*cough cough* Stevie *cough cough*) doesn't want to be there.
She knew it was going to be a grueling tour (as Fleetwood Mac is a very successful rock band), she knew she had hip/wrist/knee/joint problems, she knew about the stage lights, etc. So if she didn't want to have to do all of this, then she should have just said no to the tour.
It's not like any of the band members need the money. They're set money-wise for the next 100 years at least.

No one wants to see a boring show. I know that Lindsey goes out and gives 150% every night, but I'm not so sure about Stevie. Judging from reviews here, it sounds like she's just going through the motions nowadays.
Heck you might as well just pop in your blu-ray Soundstage, grab an adult beverage, and park your butt on the couch. You'd get a better performance anyway!

It sounds like the plan is go back and play the same venues in Calgary/Edmonton/Sacramento on yet-to-be-released dates. Once they announce the new dates, you'll have the opportunity to return your tickets for a full refund (minus the Ticketmaster service charge).

It depends on where you were. It was not mild in my neck of the woods. What made it not mild in your neck of the woods has to do with a geological idea known as site response, & much less so with any mechanistic quality of the quake itself (which in this case is classified as a light quake -- quakes whose mag measures between 4 & 4.9). That's why there's such a bafflingly wide variety of experiential reports among Californians who are short distances from one another whenever a quake occurs.

Im sorry to hear that.I can understand band members can get sick.they are people too,it really sucks whan last minute cancelations happen, but it really sucks like diehard FM fans like us come from 3.000 miles and from other countries to see a concert. In my tour following Stevie/FM shows over the years I think I had a few cancelations, Couple of Stevies and a couple of Fleetwood Mac shows.3 shows I remember as of now ,Stevies Saratoga Springs NY show do to a bad storm rip through the area the same night.Stevies Bristol CT at Lake Compounce here in Connecticut do to the places corrupt management at the time was not paying the artists so her management back out of the show last minute. Fleetwood Mac postponed due to death of a relative in the band.so far thats all I can think of now .I hope they will get Rescheduled
quickly for you guys out there.

Great, major, strong, moderate, light, minor . . . none of those terms really matter if you've sustained damage. I mean, they don't matter to the individuals who experience it, whether or not they matter to scientists. If I had sustained a fissure that would cost $2000 to repair, it would be classified as a major earthquake to me. Period.

Of course, none of the Macsters sustained any damage, I'm sure, so the EQ has nothing to do with the cancelled concert.

No.. and from what I understand about her and IMHO it is quite a bit after 32 years of fandom she is unlikely to bounce back for the remainder of the shows .The ones that aren't cancelled of course.

We felt it south in Coronado (across the bay from San Diego). At first I thought it was just the result of my 3rd Ultimate Margarita at Miguel's but everyone else felt it as well.

San Diego's show is in less than 2 weeks. At this point we have free Terrace level seats courtesy of a cousin at one of the local radio stations. If whatever caused the cancellation in Sacramento doesn't improve I'm not holding my breath for the ticket drops and spending a ton of moola this tour.

Looks like you'll get feedback from the other shows in time to make a decision. I plan to do San Diego. Luckily, I can drive and don't have to worry about a last minute cancellation.

It's awful for those who took time off of work to fit the shows in.

As for the quake, it was barely noticeable and I live about 60 miles east of the epicenter. It only lasted a second so no it wasn't the reason the show was canceled tonight. Stevie is obviously sick. How sick? We will see but there have been no ticket drops for any of the Cali shows or Vegas since Friday and that was one ticket in the tenth row at Anaheim which is very telling. This waiting game is torture.

That really sucks for all of you in Sacramento....I know the feeling....I was crushed when one of the Philly shows were postponed during the SYW tour the morning of the show. I think I went into denial for a couple hours before the depression kicked in...

But honestly, I truly doubt that anyone in Fleetwood Mac or their management would allow a band member to just flippantly decide hours before the show that they don't feel good enough to play. I would predict that someone...oh I dunno, let's just say Stevie....would have to be evaluated by several doctors who are able to make that judgement call, and maybe that's why the cancellations are always last minute. There's too much money on the line for such a major tour; there has to be some serious due process for the band to cancel a show due to illness. I highly doubt it could be anything too trivial like "just not wanting to be there."

Psychosomatic symptoms can be very real.IMO if she was happy about being on tour she would be much less likely to become ill.So yes her not wanting to be on this tour could indeed contribute to the health problems.Again just my opinion but it is one backed by 32 years of experience of Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks fandom.

That's really pushing it, isnt it? I've been a fan for 34 years and I dont share that opinion. Sure I've seen some shows which in hindsight were really disappointments-Stevie at Shoreline in 89-but I never walked away unhappy that I had gone.
We all feel the lows & for those of you waiting for the energy of earlier tours, say 82 and before, it dosent exist. It is what it is, and actually, for where they are, agewise, I think they are doing great.
It's a different band now-without Christine-Stevie seems to fall back as a support to Lindsey instead of displaying the fire she did say in 82, during the Mirage tour. I mean, they have taken some chances. Did we ever really think they would do "Storms", no matter what it comes across like today? For me, the vocal on the Lp can never be topped, but I am glad they are taking a stab at it anyhow.
They are not perfect, but I am glad they are there. If I wasnt going I wouldnt be posting endlessly bumming the people out who do chooose to go.

I know it seems dubious otherwise, but how are we so certain that it is in fact Stevie who is ill? I know she was most likely the one sick for the prior cancellations, but how do we know another band member didn't catch whatever she had and this is the unfortunate result? I just feel like we shouldn't jump to conclusions, whether it be Stevie's health or lack of desire to tour, and just hope whoever is sick will get better and these people who purchased their tix can get a great show returned to them.

I really hope no one had travel plans, though. That would just be terrible.

I don't think there's ever been a major Mac tour where Stevie didn't get ill at some point. All presumptions and conclusion jumping aside, perhaps the pace of the touring simply wears her down and she becomes more susceptible to illness. It really doesn't have to be anything more sinister than that.

Are you people insane? Since when does getting a cold automatically mean that you hate touring or that you are unhappy with the band or that the tour has been otherwise miserable? Where are you getting this impression from? From all accounts (in the press anyway), she is thrilled to be back on the road and touring with Fleetwood Mac. Admittedly, some of the scheduling was tough and the boot heels were too high. The fact remains that Mama is only human and she will get sick every once in a while. I'm sure she is utterly horrified that she is letting down her fans and her band (as well as untold others impacted financially), but unfortunately there is only so much she can do in a diminished state. Can you imagine how agonizing it must have been to do those last two shows knowing that her voice was a bit out of control? I'm sure she must have died a little when her voice cracked during "Storms." Mama is a singer and just a singer in the live setting, so she has to be on her "A" game when it comes to her vocals. It's not like she can mask mediocre singing with histrionic instrumental prowess (cough, cough). She is a born performer. She loves what she does. She loves her band. So don't heckle her while she is down. Let's all chill and wait until she bounces back before we all start prognosticating the band's demise again.

I know it seems dubious otherwise, but how are we so certain that it is in fact Stevie who is ill?

1) She sounded like crap in Vancouver and Tacoma.

2) They dropped "Silver Springs," arguably the most difficult song to sing in the set.

3) Anecdotal audience reports that her speaking voice was "off."

I do not have the unrealistic expectation of ever seeing her perform with the energy she had when she was in her twenties and early thirties,I am happy that I had the chance to witness it live then.As mentioned in other post this will be the first tour with the exception of Time I will be sitting out in over 30 years and that is because the tour is for no other logical reason than to make $$$..With the exception of the brief "Safari " stadium tour in the summer of 1978 when has Fleetwood Mac ever toured without an album to promote? The band has lowered themselves to the grasping ,mercenary depths of the Eagles for this tour. You're entitled to your opinion and I mine and as for my "endless" posting I can post as much as I like as long as I abide by the forum rules.

If Stevie (or any member of FM, for that matter) said she doesn't want to/can't perform, the show(s) in question would be canceled/postponed. Its not like there's a vetting process that's needed to validate claims/feelings.

Live Nation might be pissed, but ultimately (in light of their long term/far reaching agreement) needs to accept it as reality.

Honestly, I don't know why we aren't allowed to expect the same performance levels out of Stevie as she did in the early 80s. Let's look at it this way: Lindsey is 60, in Fleetwood Mac, actually plays an INSTRUMENT, has a family and young children to take care of, and he's performing at twice the energy level and intensity as he did 30 years ago. Stevie is also 60, in Fleetwood Mac, plays no instrument, has no family or children to take care of, and yet we're supposed to put her on her own lowered expectations scale? I just don't think that's ok at all. I love her guys (she's why I'm here), but she needs to lose the attitude, entitlement, and get her game back on. I mean, Ann Wilson is also a woman about her age, she's been in the business about as long, she's had weight and health battles too, she is a single mother of young children, yet she totally rocks out and belts vocals like she's in her 20s, with gratitude and a smile. I just want Stevie to be happy again, for her to be comfortable in her skin, and to enjoy being in the band the way that the rest of the Macsters are these days. It's really not too much to ask at all...

Ok, You got me thinking with this one-lol, I love Ann Wilson & Heart! I agree that she does still rock out. And she does it with authority. I dont compare Ann & Stevie because really, for the most part Ann has kept her voice, but sadly Stevie has lost her voice.
I loved Stevie's voice in the 70's, it was a fascinating instrument. And by the time it deepened, around Tusk, I still thought it was great. For whatever reason, that voice is gone for the most part. Listening to her now is like a study in control. She is doing the best she can to preserve her voice & pull off a 2 1/2 hour show. I sincerely dont think it's about attitude simply because I am convinced Stevie is a lovely gracious lady.

Word.

Whatever's bothering Stevie, she's felt this way since before the tour started. (I'm not referring to the cold/whatever she has... but her limp, and blatantly obvious disinterested attitude towards the tour) She's more than content to do the shows & pick up the check despite her mindset/condition/attitude.

Is she entitled to do so? Of course.

Do fans have the right to call her on it? Absolutely.

For the life of me, I cannot understand why they didnt just postpone Vancouver and Tacoma and not play until they knew whoever was ill was well enough to perform. In 2004, they cancelled a show in Bristow VA, then played Mansfield and Holmdel. I was at that Holmdel show, and I thought Stevie sounded terrible. Well, what hapened after that? About a week and a half's worth of shows were either re-arranged or cancelled. These California shows are going to be some of the most lucrative on the tour I would assume. To jeapordize that by attempting to play Van/Tac makes absolutely no sense to me.:distress:

There have been questionable times in the past where Stevie likely should not have played while sick (as anyone who saw TISL/Santa Barbara will tell you). Vancouver was basically the most commercially successful show on the tour thus far. But, Tacoma... not so much. Tacoma was a bit more difficult, as they would have had to cancel it the day of the show (assuming they played Vancouver), and couldn't have rescheduled it at the same venue (poor ticket sales showed it was a bad booking).

Depending on what they do in regards to Europe, the Calgary/Edmonton/Sacramento shows (and whatever else might be postponed) will get rescheduled, along with a few extras to make it worth their while (Portland, Boise, maybe Reno or Spokane) for a week of gigs at some point.

Good point!. I have no doubt a big chunk of Stevie's confidence and stage prowess from 1977-1982 was coke fueled. She's said herself that it was terrifying going back on stage drug free. Though you could just as easily argue that Lindsey was a cokehead during that same 1977-1982 period too. And you'd think with him being a pothead these days, that his energy level would be way lower than Stevie's. But again, not the case! :woohoo:

Honestly, I don't know why we aren't allowed to expect the same performance levels out of Stevie as she did in the early 80s....

While you make some good points, I have to say that I don't think comparing Stevie to Lindsey or Ann Wilson, or anyone, is really fair. We all age differently and have varying energy levels. There's also a difference in the wear & tear on individual bodies. I know people in their 50s and 60s who could run circles around folks who are 10-20 years younger than they are -- that doesn't mean I expect everyone their age to be as energetic.

I'm not convinced that Stevie is "unhappy" or "uninspired" on this tour, or demonstrating some sense of entitlement.

I'd like to share a quote from a review....

Despite the commercial success Stevie Nicks has helped bring Fleetwood Mac, the band is better off in concert when she shuts her mouth and whirls around the stage. Nicks sounded consistently weak vocally and apparently uninterested in the old material. Whole sections of the show, especially the one starting with "Dreams," were ruined by her lackluster vocals.

Nicks sang like she meant it only on one song the group played, leading one to suspect her poor performance was due to boredom than ineptness.

Based on those familiar-sounding criticisms, one might automatically assume they'd just read a quote from a recent review -- but it was actually published 31 years ago, in Rolling Stone. I purposely omitted the name of that "one song" (which was "Sisters Of The Moon"), to avoid time-stamping it.

So if Stevie was being accused of boredom and disinterest all the way back in 1978, during a time that fans treat as the "golden age" of her career, then perhaps she isn't really miserable up there on stage with the band in 2009 at all. Maybe it has more to do with Stevie's inconsistency as a live performer (when she's feeling fine, the show is great -- when she's tired or uncomfortable, the performance isn't too hot). Which itself could have a lot to do with the pacing of FM's tours as opposed to her solo tours, where she tends to get more days off in between shows.

Also, some of it could be due to the perceptions and expectations of the audience members. I went back this evening to that "Horrific Schedule" thread, and saw your reply to me, where you mentioned that you thought she was terrific when you saw her early on during the 2003 tour. Meanwhile, I clearly recall other people seeing shows around that same time, and issuing complaints similar to the above.

As is par for the course, not only do Stevie's performances on this tour seem to vary from night (and even song to song), but the fans also have wildly different opinions of whether or not she put on a great show.

The review you posted is from the brief "Safari' stadium tour from summer 1978 I cited earlier in this thread..JFK stadium in Philly I believe it was ..As I mentioned it was the only other time that Fleetwood Mac toured without an album to support..until now .So maybe she was in a similar psychological space then as now.

Here's another quote from an old review. This time, from the middle of the 'Tusk' tour:

Behind Stevie Nicks, (Fleetwood Mac) are mellow, temperate, cruising on automatic, unprodded and unchallenged. Nicks is supposed, I know, to be an enigmatic, mystical child, and all that baloney, but this translates into a haughty reserve that makes her seem either stiff or scared.

There is little natural ease in her manner. She projects no warmth, only an artless self that seems to leave her unaware of the vast audience watching her pout into her private mirror.

I also expected more kinetic energy from Nicks. She should fly, or at least move a bit when singing lines from "Rhiannon" about being "taken by the sky." But everything about her delivery is strictly pedestrian.

How about these two quotes, from later in the 'Tusk' tour:

(Nicks) seemed to have no focus & was merely walking through the song ("Rhiannon").

Nicks proved to be the only disappointment, although her enchanting presence on stage added to the show's electricity. Having essentially lost her once-splendid voice, Nicks was relegated to a supporting role in the concert by her former husband [sic], Lindsey Buckingham.

It was when Nicks left the stage, in fact, that Fleetwood Mac sounded at its best.

It was, ultimately, Buckingham's show. That the other band members realize this and defer to him is a good sign for Fleetwood Mac fans, who can expect many more good things from this reincarnated band.

So much of what is expressed in these quotes is interchangeable with current reviews.

And how about that "Buckingham's show" statement? Also very familiar sounding. In fact, there is no shortage of past reviews that credit the bulk of the on-stage excitement to Lindsey:

"Lindsey Buckingham is the sparkplug that keeps the Mac’s engine running."

"The dominant force all evening was the only band member who stayed onstage throughout the show—the talented & tireless Lindsey Buckingham."

"Guitarist Lindsey Buckingham has emerged.... as the main musical force on stage."

All of which leads me to believe that the sky is not falling, that Stevie is not miserable touring with the band, and that very little about Fleetwood Mac's on-stage dynamic has really changed from 30 years ago.

Wow I guess I was lucky I caught her in December 1979 on the first leg of the Tusk tour.:laugh:and I do agree and have posted in the past that the way she is feeling on any given night dictates her performance to a large extent which is also IMO somewhat unprofessional .I wouldn't trade the good shows I have seen and the memories of them for any money though and that even includes one on the OSOTM tour at the Greek in Los Feliz where I thought she was stellar and my friend at the show agreed ..He had seen her only a few nights earlier at an OC show and said she was terrible.I do feel though if people are shelling out 150 bucks + a pop to see her she should try to keep to a certain standard ..if she can't then just don't tour.I hope I don't seem ungrateful for I know you'd have given just about anything to see her live on many of these tours.

Excellent. Thanks for the comparison.

Also, it's really absurd to say Stevie is unhappy on this tour because of an assumption of her illness. All anyone could do is complain how miserable she was on the SYW tour because she looked unhappy and now she's all smiles and laughter but suddenly she's unhappy because they've had to cancel.

Perhaps she is unhappy - about canceling a show and letting fans down - or because she's miserably sick and feeling bad - but none of that is evidence of her personal state of mind regarding this tour. Good grief.

I hate to hear that Stevie is sick. :distress: I hate being sick myself. She needs to get some rest, take some Vitamin C, & eat some chicken noodle soup. That usually helps me. Hopefully she'll be feeling better real soon.

wow that was pretty darn good and she was very animated during this song. if she is sick you cant tell it from this clip. i wish she would have moved around like this during the pittsburgh show. i am so torn now if i want to go to the ac show on june 13th. i really want to see no doubt and have never seen them live but you never know how much longer fm will be touring.

She does look rockin' for that song.
However, it sucks that she didn't do the high "taaake me hoome" part. She kind of did something else strange for that.

She does seem more mobile in those shoes so that's good! Whatever it takes to put on a decent, comfortable show!

Sure I've seen some shows which in hindsight were really disappointments-Stevie at Shoreline in 89-but I never walked away unhappy that I had gone. That gig was one of the better ones that year!

We all feel the lows & for those of you waiting for the energy of earlier tours, say 82 and before, it dosent exist. It is what it is, and actually, for where they are, agewise, I think they are doing great.I'm enjoying following their current tour here. I think it's neat. I don't have any interest in listening to or watching the band, but the fact that they're on the road again & apparently selling all these hundreds of thousands of tickets is cool.

They're all old farts now, just like me. But they're still doing their thing. And it's pretty amazing that all these young ledgies & so many other kids idolize them & know all their songs.

It was actually fashionable for rock critics to bash La Nicks for many years and a good review for her was much more the exception than the rule.So it is no surprise at all that Brian was able to produce a plethora of negative reviews for her during Fleetwood Mac's prime. This trend dramatically reversed itself at the time of The Dance..which leads me to believe that the recent negative reviews are more unbiased and alot of fans seem to echo them..This was not the case back in the day ,the critics disliked her but we fans seemed to see a different show totally.

I definitely agree with that last sentence! I'm very impressed they're still roping in new folks, many of them who could literally be the Grandchildren of the bandmembers  . And despite my opinions about the motives of this tour, I still grin when I see that the band is outselling most current acts. I guess a big part of me is just hoping they'll push the nostalgia and drama aside, and do one last really kick ass studio album. In my mind, that is starting to seem ever unlikely... but hopefully I'm just too close to the light to see the flame :D .

I went to the Tacoma show and not only did Stevie's speaking voice sound like she was sick (her singing seemed fine) but she was wearing the boks and had a slight limp about half way through the show when she was walking off stage. I don't think she was feeling so good.
awwww.... well, if that's the case, I certainly hope she gets to feeling better real soon. It's bad enough going to a regular job when you're sick.. (I've done that before), let alone one when you have to sing in front of thousands of people. That's got to be tough... poor thing. She probably just needs a lot of rest to really get over it.

Agreed. I hope this is not the last nail in their legacy. It would be ashame to have a rough tour be the last thought of the band.

Also Stevie needs adequate rest between shows because of her weakened immune system. But the Mac machine is such that I don't think it's profitable for them to do it in the way she does when she tours.

I mean, they have taken some chances. Did we ever really think they would do "Storms", no matter what it comes across like today? For me, the vocal on the Lp can never be topped, but I am glad they are taking a stab at it anyhow.

Can you imagine Live Nation subjecting Stevie to a medical vetting process? The lawyers would be on the next available private jet.

Think of Ken Tucker (whose view of Fleetwood Mac greatly resembled my own), Steve Morse, Howard Cohen, Parke Puterbaugh, John Rockwell, Dennis Hunt (who named Stevie's Fox Wilshire show the best pop-rock show in Los Angeles that year), Robert Hilburn (who called Fleetwood Mac's 1982 benefit the best pop-rock show in Orange County that year), & Noel Coppage (who summed up "Tusk" as "perhaps not a great album but a fascinating parade of sounds").

And then there were the guys who loved Fleetwood Mac but who felt Stevie was often the weak link: Steve Pond, David Gans, etc.

Still others considered her a vocalist to be reckoned with but not a decent songwriter: Steve Simels, for example (who called her a belter in the tradition of Brenda Lee but a mooncalf as a songwriter).

There were even writers -- like Sylvie Simmons -- who didn't have any artistic respect for Nicks but who thought she was a warm, generous, and honest human being.

One critic who I felt really exemplified an almost total intolerance for Nicks as a songwriter AND a singer was Joel Selvin. In concert & album reviews he wrote from around 1980 to around 1987, he had practically no admiration for Fleetwood Mac's style, & considered Stevie a dip.

But to me it's important not to label any negative review as "bashing." That's a loaded term that doesn't mean "negative review." It expresses something personal & artistically unwarranted. Too many ledgies, unfortunately, call too many negative comments "bashing." Bashing is a violent term that should be reserved for specific examples of either character assassination or grossly distorted & exaggerated negativity, usually of a highly personal nature.

Of course, the distinction is very subjective, to a degree. But a comment from a critic (or a ledgie) that Stevie Nicks "lacked passion & commitment in her performance Sunday night" isn't bashing in any way, shape, or form.

Point taken..but you have to admit there are a few very legit critics who do indeed take their criticisms of a performer to such a level ..For example one of your favorites John Simon's reviews of Barbra Streisand's films in the 1970s .Really those have to be seen to be believed.

I also think that this song was great! I love to see last 1 minute or something like that :) And well, is it that important that she wears the boots??? No, the most important thing is that she feels comfertable, right :)

I think as many of you does, that she is sick...like fever or something like that. Or it could be something that has to do with her hip...???...No, it was the boots, I think. You can imagine, wearing the boots "all summer long" and winter in over 30 years...

I love No Doubt, and think they are a great band..however their performance on American Idol, 1 or 2 weeks ago was seriously lacking. Well, the band was good, but Gwen was completely off. They performed "Just a Girl," and while I had high hopes for their "comeback" it sure didn't make me want to go buy tickets for their show. She pretty much talked/yelled her way through the song...now I'm sure they're rusty from being apart for some time, and maybe it was one bad performance (although they sounded similarly out of tune on the Today Show recently too)..I don't know, didn't work for me live.

I am going to see No Doubt. I love Gwen Stefani, and have for a long time. I think she's totally original, love her music and spunk, and find her incredibly beautiful. I can not for the life of me see her as a 40 year-old mother-of-two. She seems half her age.

Good job. We all seem to be forgetting that Stevie has often been tagged as aloof, distant, non-commited and many other adjectives as far back as the Rumours tour. From the shows I have seen (5) she has sounded VERY good and was definitely into the show. I do feel however that she herself does not want the show to be the 'Stevie" show so yeah she does hold a little back. Stevie has always stated that FM performances and solo performances are two different things.

In FM Stevie is (and knows she is) part of the group. Solo is just Stevie so she goes all out, for the most part. And we cannot blame her for the fact that when she walks onto a stage (no matter who it is with) there is an undeniable magnetism that draws you to her. I have heard this from casual fans such as friends, cousins who have come to shows with me. So lets keep our finger crossed that whatever is going on is correctable, and refrain from calling Shady Pines just yet.

I was thinking the exact same thing as I've been following this thread. I remember reading negative things (as well as good reviews) about Stevie Nicks in her hey day, no matter what I thought of her and I loved every second of her on stage back then and still do. I also agree with the point that at the time of The Dance, she started getting more respect regarding reviews. Whatever the reasons for the postponed concerts, I hope the band gets well soon!

I honestly thought the concert was great. I went to the opening night show in Atlantic City and they were phenomenal. Gwen may not hit every single note when she's up on stage, but the girl performs her heart out and interacts with the crowd more than any other artist I've ever seen. At one point, she literally went up to these fans in the front row and started talking to them. Then she took their digital camera, turned around and snapped a picture with her and the fans so they could have their picture taken with her. She really is a class act and genuinely appreciates her fans.

It was funny when Gwen started talking about this reunion tour with No Doubt. They, like Fleetwood Mac, are not touring off a new album. Gwen said that it was mostly "her fault" and that lately she has had writer's block, and that "hopefully this reunion tour would inspire her and the band to write some new songs". Sound familiar? ;)

But to answer your question, she sounds better on some songs more than others. She's a very energetic performer, so sometimes her vocals are off, but on the slower songs when she's not dancing around as much, she sounds as good as she does in the studio. Overall, it was a great show packed with all the hits. You won't be disappointed..

Gwen is a super cool person. I was about 15/16 when No Doubt first became famous and I recall a friend of mine actually seeing/meeting the band and really thinking they were all so down to earth, especially Gwen. She had/has a very magnetic personality and is truly a natural beauty. People don't even realize that under all the makeup she's like angelic looking. I wish Gwen could see that as well.

Anyway, I love her songs. Bathwater and the album it is off of are just spectacular. She reinvents her style, but nowadays I see she's being a little nostalgic with a little retro mix-up.

I think it's interesting that Gwen shares a birthday with Lindsey (October 3) and her son Kingston shares a birthday with Stevie (May 26). And I really think this pic is cute:

How interestingly random that he would choose that particular song.

No, she never needed to say anything. Just the fact that she seems to cake up her face and apply several coats of red lipstick just to walk around in the park or walk down the street. It's not a put-down. She's free to do what she wants and, honestly, she'd be beautiful in a Barney suit.

But after seeing her in that one vid where she strips down her layers and is, at the end, wearing practically no makeup, it's quite evident how stunning she is with little on. I can't remember the vid, but it's a song she wrote about her husband and she's jumping on a bed.

He actually had a trio of songs and said he'd been inspired by the artists growing up. One was Lindsey, one was Neil Young and I can't remember the third.

When he separated from his wife and reconciled with her, he wrote a song of his own called Going Back Again. So, I think his choice of NGBA might have been a reflection on his own divorce.

so i just gotta ask my friend if she still has that ticket for me for the no doubt show. i have always wanted to see them and i just love gwen. she seems so down to earth and just a generally nice person who really appreciates her fans. do you remember how long they played for? paramore is opening for them right? i saw them last year with john mayer and they were pretty good.

The show lasted about 1 hour 40 minutes and they did around 18/19 songs. It was a really great show. Considering it was opening night of the tour, I expected them to be a little rusty, but they were as tight as they were when I saw them on their last tour in 2004. Paramore wasn't with them though, unfortunately. They didn't join the tour until the second show, but I believe they're going to be the opening act for the rest of the tour.

I'm looking forward to seeing them again next month in Holmdel. PNC is one of my favorite venues, so it should be a great night. Hope you end up getting that ticket, you'll definitely have a good time.

She certainly doesn't look her age and she always seems to radiate youth. I think a lot of that has to do with her personality as well as her looks. She still has tons of energy and always puts on a great show. I think she wears a lot of makeup because that's just her image (platinum blond hair, red lipstick). That look is all hers and she owns it.

Anyway, I love her songs. Bathwater and the album it is off of are just spectacular. She reinvents her style, but nowadays I see she's being a little nostalgic with a little retro mix-up.

I was thinking the other day that Gwen is pretty much the only other female artist that I could think of other than Stevie that has had a successful solo career as well as a successful career as a member in a band. Her music also tends to be different on her solo albums than when she's with No Doubt. It's interesting that she's able to change up her music style a bit when she's with the band vs. when she's solo. She's definitely an original..

It's a look.
The song/video is Underneath It All

Yes!! That's the vid...she's gorgeous in it.

I know it's her look, but I guess I've always leaned towards a more natural look. On anyone. However, she does own it and she's extremely original.

When I was in school, I really liked Frisco and Felicia on GH and Jack Wagner's birthday was on October 3.
Well while you are on the subject of General Hospital I thought you'd like to know that one of it's most famous characters was Laura. Her real name is Genie Francis and she shares a Birthday with Stevie(May 26).
