My mom and dad had it on in the family room- and I caught most of the last hour. It's very sad..... Now I am totally bummed, I will pray for her. It is so tragic- it really is. I feel helpless.:distress:

I watched it last night. I thought it was very well done. That laser treatment she underwent in Germany was barbaric. It amazes me that with all the research this is the best we can do?
Also I've had several members of my immediate family die of cancer. Like Farrah, they went through periods where they actually improved, saw hope and then had a recurrence. I guess what I took away from it is that you have to cherish that time of hope.
I of course thought of Stevie and her friend Robin when I saw City of Hope.
I don't think Farrah is long for this world. I hope for her and her family that some miracle occurs. The situation with her son is tragic. Her father seems like a wonderful man.

God bless her 91 year old dad. He's already lost a daughter to cancer. She was also 62 years old. The part at the end with Farrah's son, shackled, lying beside her on the bed, saying "mommy it's me", just broke my heart.

I taped this so I have to watch it but a caught a few minutes of it so far and it was very sad. I think she is such a strong, brave woman for documenting everything she has gone through. I really hope somehow she makes it but from what Ryan O'Neill has said this week on the today show it doesnt seem like she has much time left. So sad.

Indeed ..I'm really surprised she is still alive .I can only chalk it up to her indominable will to survive ..Seeing as her sister died at the same age she is now of cancer I think she must have been dealt a bad set of genetics for that disease.

I saw it last night. (MNBC had decided to rebroadcast it.)
She's fighting it tooth-and-nail, that's for sure.
I loved Farrah's line about angels being allowed to dip their
wings into the rain, "even if only for a moment" -
that was beautiful. And it was great to be able to see her having
some fun with a snowball fight with her best friend.
I also thought it was great that she was willing to share this
experience with the world in order to show everyone what it's like -
and what CAN be done these days - I have a strong impression
that if this had happened 10 years ago, she wouldn't have
survived even this far. And it made me wonder why she had
to fly several times, all the way to Germany, for a scientifically established treatment -
this wasn't some "alternative medicine" thing that some people
in Western Medicine might consider "off-the-wall," this was modern, top-of-
the-line Western Medicine. I have a silly idea that that should be something
that the United States is able to offer. ;)

Anyway, a lot of people are praying for her. I'm sure she knows that and
appreciates it.

.

I know a little bit about this so I feel I can comment -
Picture a bunch of highly-skilled engineers making a
really powerful, incredibly heavy, strong Mack truck -
whose purpose is to get into a head-on collision with
an equally powerful Mack truck going the other
direction at the same speed (or faster). There's no
question, i.m.o., of "why didn't they make a stronger
truck!?" The truck is as powerful as it's possible for it
to be - the problem is the strength and power of the
other truck. They're doing the best they can and doing
as much as is possible, until nan0therapy and gene therapy
get started - and that's so complicated that no one can help
the fact that it takes a long time to research it.
Just some thoughts, that's all. More money and more
people working in the field is always a good thing, of course.

She's a very brave woman. I used to watch Charlie's Angels & saw her in the Burning Bed. She's a very good actress & a seemingly, all around nice person. That's why I hate to see her suffer. She's been suffering for several years. She's had a good life. I know she's trying to hold on for her son & for Ryan, but she must let go. They must learn to take care of themselves. She must go.... to the light.

thanx pip, i was finally able to catch a rerun of it on oxygen~ my thoughts:

i am heartbroken~ i can't believe her strength to live~ it is inspiring & amazing~ & we all should have heart like that~ i cried thru so much of it, but the worse part for me, where i actually gasped out loud was when she took her hat off & showed her bald head~ the DR was right, farrah probably has the most famous hair ever & seeing her little bald head was almost more than i could take~ those laser liver treatments, wowzer~

the end too when they showed her son coming to see her in his jail clothes & leg shackles, where he laid on the bed w/ her, tore me up~

her & ryan's undying love for ea other was neat to see & i am so glad the other angels were there for farrah~

the stage she seems to be in now, is exactly where my father-in-law was before he finally crossed over~ bless her brave, brave heart~
i just love farrah~

yeah at the end of the docu, they said the initial anal tumor had returned & was pretty good sized, the DR showed w/ his hand how big, but i can't show you here~ i would say it was the size of a shelled peanut~ they also said tho the original liver tumors were still dormant, that others were occuring & getting bigger~

they showed her in bed & said she is sedated & in pain~ very sad news~ she was so hopeful~ those treatments she took in germany were horrid~

her story is certainly one to be watched~

i loved how they showed her reading letters from other cancer patients~

I do wonder though whether she was just having a particularly bad day (when Redmond visited her in bed), or whether she is indeed barely with us. I do get the impression that her narrative (in which she sounds very strong, lucid and defiant) was recorded quite recently, especially since she talks about everything in the past-tense and even mentions that she had survived 2.5 years after diagnosis (which would place the timing of the recording at approximately April 2009). I don't want to sound like a total cynic, but Ryan ONeal's press junket behind this special seemed more than a bit "off" to me. He's not a good actor to start with, and he was so obviously chewing scenery in the most hackneyed way. I mean, if she was really, really that gravely ill, wouldn't you think his priority #1 would be to keep vigil by her bedside 24/7? And being such a personal/private tragedy, I found it distasteful that he would be so willing to pimp Farrah out on worldwide deathwatch- that kind of sensational media coverage is morbid and tacky to the nth power, especially since she has been fighting so hard to keep her disease out of the tabloids. And if Farrah is really as out-of-it as Ryan says she is, wouldn't it have made more sense to air the documentary posthumously (with a full story arc, no less)?

In any case, I hope I am right, and I hope that Farrah's condition was exaggerated for the sake of getting ratings; NBC needs a hit like a crackhead needs a hit. It would be great to see Part II of this documentary in which Farrah beats her cancer like a red-headed stepchild!

HejiraNYC - do you truly believe that her condition has been exaggerated for ratings? I find that ludicrous.

It is my understanding she weighs 80lbs wet and is bedridden; and has been so since april.

here is some recent info regarding the fight for rights to the documentary:

I have no doubt as to her true intentions in publicizing her fight for life. She is obviously of sound mind. I trust she would rather share something else, anything else with the world than the harsh reality of her cancer. In doing so, she has obviously provided inspiration to those also suffering; as evidenced in the recital of some of her fanmail. She, her family and friends, are to be commended for their bravery in revealing as much of themselves and for those that rip/cast judgement upon her choices can 'suck off '! IMO :D

I wish for her comfort and peace.

I have no reason to believe that Farrah is not coming from anywhere but the most sincere of places. It took incredible bravery for someone who became famous for her incredible beauty, to bare her bald head for the camera. But you have to admit that Ryan's crying to the press was pretty tacky. The documentary pretty much speaks for itself- it was really tacky and unnecessary for him to proclaim her at death's door repeatedly. I just know that if I was in a situation where a life partner is about to pass on, I would not be wasting time talking shop with Katie Couric.

Look, I'm not sure what to believe when it comes to her condition, but there is a side of me that hopes that Farrah is still in a state of mind to fight. I hope she drew inspiration from her own documentary.

I just know that if I was in a situation where a life partner is about to pass on, I would not be wasting time talking shop with Katie Couric. He probably is beside himself and doesn't really know how to behave; other than to grieve what seems to be the inevitable. It seems clear to me they have both experienced the 'loves of their life' in finding eachother. No doubt the intiating of interviews was on the side of the press or his attempt on getting Farrah's side of the story out; apparently there was a lawsuit with UCLA in which a law was established on patient's right to privacy. Farrah gave glimpse to this when she stated she had planned on keeping private but was forced to reveal her truth when rags such as the Enquirer began to 'speak' for her. All in all, while not a fan per say of Ryan, I can see how this would take an emotional toll and create the mindfck of 'WTF am I to do.' I am not sure I would know what would be the correct way to behave in this most public of situations; I do know I would be inconsolable to be losing the love of my life. I do not question his sincerity in loving Farrah and doing the best that he can. (and by this, HejiraNYC, I am not saying you are questioning...just expressing my overall general opinion on this topic.)

Something else I'd like to point out, is that the symptoms of anal cancer are easily mistaken for simple hemorrhoids. (They're very easy to find doing a Google search - just search for "Farrah Fawcett" And "Symptoms.) It's my belief that that's what happened to her - she fell into the trap of thinking it was nothing serious, and delayed until it was much worse and possibly too late. She's hoping to use her
"Celebrity Status" to prevent that from happening to other people. God only knows how many lives she may save that way. I totally respect her for what she did, but I would like to think that it just shows that she's a human being - "Save thousands of lives, or NOT save thousands of lives" - that's a no-brainer.

let the woman die in peace. I don't really get the fascination with this documentary. people suffer this disease and worse every single day. and they are just as brave and strong as she is. she is an amazing woman (as are all who battle such horrific diseases) and I'm sure she has positive, good intentions for doing the documentary, but I just can't really wrap my mind around what they are. what, exactly, are the reasons for a documentary following her around in her last days? and why is there a "sequel" being filmed? maybe it's been explained and I just missed it.

just my opinion, of course.

ETA: I am not ripping on her at all. it's her choice, her decision, her life. I'm just saying that I don't find a lengthy documentary and "sequel" necessary to show the harsh realities of cancer and the adoration that has followed. I know that sounds harsh, but I promise I don't mean it to demean her intentions at all.

The best I try to can explain, personally, is this -

The '70s weren't actually all that long ago.
Just yesterday.
This is an "Angel" this is happening to.
And if it can happen to Her. . . .

Farrah Fawcett, sex symbol and actress, dies

Farrah Fawcett, the blond-maned actress whose best-selling poster and "Charlie's Angels" stardom made her one of the most famous faces in the world, has died. She was 62. i also want to add a post i put on another board i belong to~ i have said all along for many years as a child of the 70's, farrah was the "other woman" in my life besides stevie nicks~ i grew up loving & adoring them both & feel blessed to have had the pleasure of looking up to both them~

my heart is truly breaking~ another wonderful icon gone~ i was standing in my spare bedroom looking at my "red swimsuit" poster & bawling like a baby~ besides stevie nicks, i so loved farrah when i was a girl~ & her being jill in "charlie's angels" & that being my real name, always made it easy for me to be her when my friends & i played "charlie's angels" as kids~ i guilty have to admit to only using her shampoo when it was sold & having all her dolls~ she had the best hair & smile in the biz~ she also had a heart~ she was more than a pin-up girl, she was real & i loved her~

i will miss you farrah, may you have some comfort & rest in peace, if anyone deserves it, you do~ your battle was brave, yet hard to watch, & as a fan, i am thankful i was also let into that part of your life~

I love Farrah for several reasons. First she became the sex symbol, I was 12 when I watched Charlie Angels, though she has already appeared in some episodes of 6million dollar man, SWAT, and othe Spelling shows. And of course there was the famous poster.

She became the silly blonde girl, she left Charlie's Angels after the first season and did some bad movies. But then it came The Burning Bed and Extremities, and she proved she was a great actress.

Another great performance was Poor Little Rich Girl: The Barbara Hutton Story. I loved her career because that "silly blonde girl who can't act" label is usually set by the media, and for unfair reasons. Not only with Farrah, there are several blonde actresses that never had a good opportunity. Fortunately for Farrah she could show us how great she was. Probably it was very hard.

I hope some day they find the definitive cure for cancer, aids, and other diseases that take us many talents, also our loved relatives.

Thank you for reminding me of the Barbara Hutton story movie. What I remember most about that movie was Farrah's character lounging poolside with a cigarette in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other and how her character claimed she existed on those two items.
Also, just curious, did Charlie's Angels run on South American television at the same time as America's did? Or did you folks recieve the shows a year or so later?

There used to be a ton of detective shows... I remember though I used to watch The Bionic Woman a lot (and haven't seen it since). I liked Vegas (with Dan Tanna) and Kolchak The Night Stalker who were detectives, and later Cagney & Lacey was great, but then I was completely obsessed with Little House On The Prarie for at least a year as well. I don't know why Charlie's Angels failed to interest me. I already 'knew' Farrah from Logan's Run (and Jessica Six from The Railway Children). That does it, I need satellite tv again...

Farrah Fawcett's Life Celebrated at Private Funeral

Tuesday , June 30, 2009

AP

LOS ANGELES —
The life of "Charlie's Angels" star Farrah Fawcett was celebrated Tuesday at a private funeral in the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.

Her longtime companion, Ryan O'Neal, 68, was among pallbearers who accompanied the casket, covered in yellow and orange flowers, into the Roman Catholic cathedral.

Fawcett's friend Alana Stewart and "Charlie's Angels" co-star Kate Jackson were among early arrivals before the hearse pulled up, accompanied by 10 motorcycle officers.

The private service lasted more than an hour as fans and news media watched from across a street.

A bag piper was the first to emerge from the cathedral after the service, followed by several priests and the pallbearers carrying Fawcett's casket. Her father was helped into a limousine as dozens of other mourners waited nearby to board several white shuttle buses.

The funeral program said Fawcett's and O'Neal's 24-year-old son, Redmond, was to do the service's first reading. He has been jailed in a drug case but received a judge's permission to attend the funeral. He was not seen outside the cathedral, however.

The program, which featured a photograph of a smiling Fawcett, also said Ryan O'Neal was to read the 23rd Psalm. and eulogies were to be given by Stewart and Dr. Lawrence Piro, Fawcett's cancer specialist.

Fawcett died Thursday at age 62 after a public battle with cancer. O'Neal and Stewart were at her side.

"After a long and brave battle with cancer, our beloved Farrah has passed away," O'Neal said in a statement last week. "Although this is an extremely difficult time for her family and friends, we take comfort in the beautiful times that we shared with Farrah over the years and the knowledge that her life brought joy to so many people around the world."

Diagnosed with a rare cancer in 2006, Fawcett's battle with the disease was documented in "Farrah's Story," which aired last month on NBC.

Stewart, a producer of the documentary, said Fawcett was "much more than a friend; she was my sister."

"Although I will miss her terribly, I know in my heart that she will always be there as that angel on the shoulder of everyone who loved her," Stewart said in a statement.

Redmond O'Neal was jailed April 5 on drug charges. The order by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Jane Godfrey allowed him to be released for three hours and wear street clothes to attend the funeral.

So long Farrah,RIP.her story was over shadowed by the loss of Michael Jackson, but his was a shocker.btw the tv shows from the 50s to the 80s were awesome ,compared to the crap on tv now.I have All of Charlies Angels on VHS recorded off of TNT and a local channel I've recorded ages ago.I think I will have my own tribute to Farrah marathon coming up this holiday weekend.

Isn't that a beautiful name for a church. I've been there for services and actually met Cardinal Mahoney on Christmas Day...one handshake away from the Pope. There are cripts below that have been taken by celebrity Catholics. I wonder if Farrah will be interred there. I hope I can get a place.
