it's 4 in the afternoon
I'm on a flight leaving LA
trying to figure out my life
and my youth
scatterered along the highway
hotel rooms and headlights
I've made a living with a song
guitar as my companion
wanting desperately to belong
fame is filled with spoiled children
we grow fat on fantasy
and I guess that's why I'm leaving
I crave reality

So goodbye Alice in Wonderland
goodbye yellow brick road
there is a difference
between dreaming and pretending
I did not find paradise
it was only a reflection
of my lonely mind wanting
what's been missing in my life

I'm embarrassed to say
the rest in rock 'n roll cliche
I hit the bottom
when I reached the top
but I never knew it was you
who was breaking my heart
I thought you had to love me
but you did not
yes a heart can hallucinate
if it's completely starved for love
it can even turn monsters
into angels from above
you forged my love just like a weapon
you turned it against me like a knife
you broke my last heart string
but you opened my eyes

So goodbye Alice in Wonderland
goodbye yellow brick road
there is a difference
between dreaming and pretending
that was not love in your eyes
it was only a reflection of my lonely mind searching
for what's been missing in my life

Hi,

I think this is a Jewel song. It was on her 'Goodbye Alice in Wonderland' Album.

Bingo!
So how'd you know? Did you cheat?
Or do you own the CD?

I was working out the chords of that song today to play on my guitar
and started thinking about the lyrics. It made me think of Stevie, and
that it sounded like she could have wrote it. Jewel wrote it in 2006.
And the CD it comes from is very good, "Goodbye Alice In Wonderland".

Well I'm glad we got that over with quick, instead of pages and pages of people asking for the demo of the song, sources, blah blah blah.

I own the album, it is a great song and the album is also worth listening too. Stand
out tracks are; Again and Again, Only one too, Drive to you and Fragile Heart.

I much prefer the version of Fragile Heart that's on the Goodbye Alice in Wonderland album to the one on her previous album, 0304... That album sucks!

Oh please, those lyrics are way too coherent to have been written by Stevie.

That line "we grow fat on fantasy" gave me some pause. . . .

I knew it was absolutely NOT written by La Nicks when I read that line.
