[This was posted on Sioux Falls radio website, I suppose it is excerpted from an interview I have not found yet. I am relieved that they all didn't die.]

The schedule for the first leg of Fleetwood Mac's Unleashed tour in March and April was "horrific," according to Stevie Nicks. She says they had only a few days off and that it "nearly killed all four" band members. Promoter Live Nation has worked more off-days into the second leg, which now runs through late June.

To me it looks as if the may-june schedule has not a day more air than the march-april schedule. Even worse?

Good Lord that woman is sucha damn whiner! Is she EVER happy or satisfied?? Working 3 hours a day, every other day for a month stretch would sure wear me out too.

I dont think you are taking into consideration the press they are doing, traveling back and forth between hub cities each day, rehearsal time, voice coach time, etc. And from your recent posting history, you have no room to talk about whining...lol!

They really aren't doing press. This is not like in the Tusk days where they had mics stuck in their faces after the show. They did one big joint interview at the beginning and Stevie and Lindsey did some video to kick things off. But that's about it. No local stuff, except radio by Mick.
The press Stevie has done since the tour began was for her CD/DVD.

I totally agree with that...but still takes a lot of time out of the day, etc. I am sure she is tired and I am sure being out on the road for months at a time gets really old really fast. That was my only point. It just seems like everybody takes everything to mean that they are whining. We only get to see what the press wants us to see.

well, there was that 6 in 8 night stretch between Washington D.C and Toronto1 March 10-17. I'm not pretending to know exactly what they deal with, but I went to all 6 of those shows, on the Greyhound, some with 2 nights with 0 sleep and I'm still alive. But then again, Im nuts anyway...

Here we go. She's not even going to wait until after the tour this time.
I understand that Stevie bitches a lot. I've come to accept, even expect, it from her. But here I have to agree with her. These people are kind of up there in age and I imagine, given their lifestyles when they were younger, some may not be as resilient to consecutive days or standing/moving under large lights, belting tunes out, flying from one place to another. When you get old, these things do not become adventurous or exciting as much as just a pain in the a$$.
However, if any of them would complain I would expect it more from Lindsey. He's on the stage the entire time, running around like a madman, cutting up his fingers, singing, and then still having to deal with the responsibilities of having a family. He's got to be tired.
But still...Stevie's complaining has like another appendage. It's always going to be there. I find it sort of endearing at this point...well, at times.;)

BB King plays over 250 dates a year, EVERY year...and he's closing in on 90 AND, he's diabetic. Now, what's Stevie's bitch?? She has to go on tour for 100 shows every 6 years?? Gimme a break.
Just shows who has "paid their dues" and who hasn't. You CAN be a "mega-star" and still have a ton of "back dues" left unpaid.

I was just starting to see her pov until you posted this...um, you are seriously right. There are so many artists older, less healthy, who tour longer and no doubt use more energy.
But everyone deals with aging differently. And it would be less interesting if she didn't have something to complain about. You have to admit it...
OT: I was just thinking about Chuck Berry. I don't know how old he is now, but he's pretty darn old...and that man can ROCK and works hard. And he didn't have an easy life either. I kinda just love him to death.

I saw BB last year, he was great! I think another big difference between he and Stevie is you can tell he genuinely LOVES what he does still. He's grinning from ear to ear the whole time he's on stage. He chats it up with the audience, jokes, and is genuinely jovial to still be at it, and grateful for his run. He's still putting out new material like clockwork. Stevie looks like she'd rather be having a root canal than be on stage, and then whines and bitches in the press about how hard and not fun it is, and about how there's no point in recording new material because it won't sell. She's just never seems grateful for people like us supporting her for 4 decades, and doesn't seem like she's in it for the right reasons anymore. Don't get me wrong, I still adore her, or I wouldn't be here. I just can't understand her attitude. She travels the world performing for tens of thousands of adoring, lifelong fans each night, she stays in the best 5 star hotels the world has to offer, shops without ever having to look at a price tag again, travels in the comfort of a private jet, and when it's all over she gets to go home to her multi-million dollar mansion. Just what exactly is there to be ungrateful about??

I am NEVER one to knock Stevie, but you are right. ALOT of the rest of us are having SERIOUS problems right now, Trying to work two jobs just so you can pay your medical bills, and then having to hear someone COMPLAIN about being a "Rock STAR" is ridiculous. I dont care HOW OLD YOU ARE. SOME people in their 60's are still breaking their backs, because they have to. I am tired of all the touring anyway, and wish shed just finally do something different with the MAJORITY of her time. I know we have gotten afew things in the last 8 or so years, the deep dish and stand back remixs, soundstage, the videos finially released ect, but i always wonder what else would be going on if she wasnt touring EVERY year.

They could very easily play one gig...and have 2 days off after each gig. They could still pull of a dozen or more shows a month that way.

I could see Stevie last week in Dallas, I was near the stage. She looked tired, then I immediately remember comments at the Is Stevie Nicks dragging Fleetwood Mac's tour around? thread at Stevie's forum. I think that saying "looked half-awake" or "barely follow the tune's clip" is unfair, to me she tried to do her best, but yes she was kind of lack of energy, though she didn't move during GDW or Rhiannon as she didi in the past, she did her spinning dance at Stand Back. Her voice was very good, imho, but nevertheless her eyes looked tired. Probably the tour is exhausting.
Lindsey didn't look tired at all. He performed excellent and full of energy. Mick didn't look tired, and John well he is always quiet so I can't say.

They can book as many/as few shows as they want. Stevie just wants to have her cake (as many $200K+/nt paydays as possible) and eat it too (complain complain complain). Not surprising at all.

Advice to Stevie: Quit.
Advice to Mick: Call Bob, Billy, Rick, Bekka, etc. I'm certain any one of them or all would be more than happy to go on the road with more enthusiasm, and they wouldn't bitch about the schedule either.

Maybe she finally realizes that giving up motherhood and trading off finding herself a true love for her "rock n roll lifestyle" wasn't worth it afterall. Let's face it - she gave up such a huge part of being a woman that honestly, she really didn't have to do. Every other hard working female in the music business has either gotten married and/or had children. NOBODY works harder and is more committed to their career as Madonna - yet despite putting out new CDs and touring every other year, she STILL managed to get married and have 2 children (not to mention the other 2 she adopted). This whole "there was no time" nonsense is a royal copout. Stevie has put out 2 new CDs in the past 20 years and yet she had no time? Please.
She's an old single woman who is probably very unfulfilled in her life. You can have all the money in the world, but if you're not truly happy inside, it isn't going to matter. It is quite obvious that she's unhappy at this point and who could blame her? It's obvious she doesn't want to tour anymore. It's clearly not fun for her anymore. She's no longer relevant in the music industry and that reality is probably sinking in. When she quit the drugs in '93, she really should have spent some time focusing on herself and her personal life. Her career was in the tank and she was no longer the darling of rock n roll. She was still young enough to have kids and have a real family. But she chose to release and tour off of Street Angel instead and then do nothing until The Dance.
So many years have gone by and she seems to have done a whole lotta nothing. So, if she's irritable and blaming her schedule for being tired or blaming her fans for stealing her music, can you fault her? It's probably a lot easier to blame the world for your problems than to face the reality that you might have wasted the majority of the past 20 years of your life....
Counting OSOTM, it would be three solo records in 20 years..

Well, I'd rather see Bekka singing back-up to Faith Hill than the current, bitter Stevie.
Side note: Bekka has written some stand-out songs for Faith.

This was very well-stated and interesting to read. I must ask this, and I'm embarrassed in a way, how many solo albums, excluding compilations/box sets, has Stevie put out since the start of her solo career? I'm curious because she is considered to be the more prolific one in terms of her and Lindsey, yet I am thinking now their solo contributions are about even. But I could be wrong. I know she has tons of demos and whatnot, but no doubt so does he.
Anyway, right, back to the subject...I personally agree that Stevie complains a lot. It doesn't bother me that much, but I truly disliked when she would start publicly berating Lindsey and airing all kinds of dirty laundry that (I feel) was mainly good PR, but just made me lose some respect for her. It seemed that all she could talk about were things that happened decades ago and how much she hated the SYW tour and album. But it was a whole different story when the album was released and she was doing press for the tour at the time. So it's become more and more difficult to take her at face value.
However, I personally feel like she probably tried her best during the shows I went to. I think her singing was spot-on and she was somewhat into it at times. Yes, for the most part she was not energetic or captivating, but there were spurts. And I guess those little moments meant a lot to some people.
This co-worker of mine went to see FM and declared to me, as I mentioned in the thread with that horrible, nasty review that blasts Stevie and calls her bloated was posted, that she no longer likes nor has any respect for Stevie. Apparently, the lady had extremely good seats and was observing how "so not into it" and "blank-faced" Stevie looked. She said she ignored most of the fans and seemed lifeless, whereas Lindsey went over and above and tore it up. Although I loved hearing the lady praise LB, I felt bad for SN a little. I like her, what can I say?
Anyway, suffice to say the lady hates Stevie now and wrote some letter to somewhere affiliated with the group complaining about her lackluster performance when she paid $400 for her tickets. She basically thinks Stevie is a lazy, ungrateful, rich hag who sucks up her fans' money and delivers phoned-in performances in return. I couldn't reason with her.
I just hope that a lot of other more casual fans aren't feeling this way...

And Lindsey's GOS tour only once had a break for more than a day in between shows, many times he played consecutive nights. I know it wasn't as long a tour as the FM one but considering how energetic he is on stage the last few years you'd think he'd wear himself out pretty quickly. I seem to remember comments after the GOS tour that he wishes it could have gone on much longer.
Even if it took their toll on all of them at least the other three were still giving it their all on stage.

Oh, for pity's sake.
Did any of you hear that sentence come out of her mouth? For all you know, it could be made up, misquoted, or a total tongue-in-cheek comment, complete with hearty, dirty laugh.
If Mick or John had said it, you'd be laughing.
Stevie says it and she's a bitter old (!) woman who should hang up her platforms.
Yes, she bitches sometimes and pisses me off, too, but one highly exaggerated sentence? Nah. And, the funny thing is--when she does a TV or radio interview, we have far less bitching in response. Then, she's funny and eccentric and we love, love, LOVE her! Why? Because we SEE/hear what she's actually trying to say--beyond the words. So, anyway, I'm taking this with a huge grain of salt. She could very well have been talking about the condition of the band's feet when she said that.

She's only moaning cos she has no say in the schedule. It's all directed at Mick or someone in his management. She said almost the exact same thing about the Behind the Mask Tour dates (or whatever that tour was called), "What is he trying to do, kill us?" (I'm paraphrasing, check the US Magazine Article interview from that era).
If she doesn't get to select the cities, in the order that she likes them, then they're not done right.

I agree! I mean this could seriously be misquoted or said as a joke. I mean I don't like the quote either, I think whether it was a joke or not it is still annoying to hear her say that, but I think some people are just taking it way to far. She seemed to be having a lot of fun at the show I attended and she appeared to me that she still loves what she does. I think some of these post are just so absurd. I can't speak for Stevie, but neither can you all that say she's unhappy and she hates touring and she doesn't appreciate her fans. You don't know that she feels that way so don't post it like you know it to be fact.

In denial much? Oh, yeah, Stevie is beyond reproach, the Goddess that she is. Gimme a f***ing break. She's tired & used...time for her to either retire or take up a permanent residence at some casino on the Vegas strip...which, come to think of it, is about the same thing for a performer.

She's not beyond reproach, Chili. These are not the old days when I thought she was.
I've taken a lot of exception to what she's occasionally said.
But, you don't mark people as washed up simply because of one sentence they've (maybe) said to a radio station that no one except those in the state have heard of.
In my opinion, of course.
And, in yours, Stevie and anyone not in the original FM should have been on that Vegas strip about 20 years ago.
That's cool. You live with your denial, I'll live with mine.

I saw the D.C. show, and this was when there was NO interaction between Stevie and Lindsey, really, the most we got was when she put her hand on his shoulder at the end of Sara, no hugs, no shimming back-to-back, NADA!! But, I still had the time of my life.
One has to wonder though, how can Mick do meet-n-greets, interviews, mymicktv., have incredible energy during the shows, and not complain? Stevie does NONE of this. Sometimes, her bitchin' pisses me off too. C'mon, being a rocknroll star is a life of luxury! They most likely ain't gonna be touring past June 20th - so make the most of it!!

I was kind of agreeing with the flow of the thread, but after Regina's comments, it seems like it more meshes with the truth- after going to the Tulsa show, I really felt better about Stevie- she gave it her all and was definitely looking like she was having fun, and I was totally expecting to see out-of-key singing and a bitter SN, given the reviews of her work so far.
So although I'm tempted to agree and say Stevie's out of order ,etc- I seem to think that it's a horrible misquote.
All we have that's actual quotes are:
"horrific"
"nearly killed all four"
For my money, the most likely quote (assuming there was one) is along the lines of:
"Yeah, the tour scheduling has been nothing short of horrific. It nearly killed all four of us."
The part we don't know is the next lines, which for all we know could be: But, we're glad we're touring again and it's worth it.
I doubt she made the tour comment in total isolation, there's more to it we simply didn't get to hear.

I think everyone can understand that people sometimes tend to over-dramatize things in order to make a point or for comic effect, e.g., "...I could have died laughing," or "...please, just kill me now," etc. I think the "horrific" statement was probably just Stevie being a little dramatic. Nothing more. Admittedly there were some crazy 2-on/1-off stretches of one-nighters, which are rather unusual for this band. And as for the "nearly killed us" comment, could it be she was referring to the incident where lightning struck the plane in mid-flight? They were probably rushing to get to the next city despite the bad weather, and it literally nearly downed the airplane.

Nope, I don't...but Stevie's been washed up for at LEAST 15 years already and comments like the one she (allegedly) made about the touring schedule, just confirms it.
Talk about bitter. Who is the one here who continue to go on and on about a version of this band who had little to no commercial or financial success and longs for the days of Peter Green. Talk about washed up.
Chili...like it or not, Stevie is beloved by a lot of people just like you like the old FM. One is not right or wrong...just the way it is. I really do my best to no longer post negative things on here about any other band member but everyone seems to just rail on Stevie all the time. Get over it...she has been the focus of Fleetwood Mac whether you like it or not for the last 30 years. Maybe she is trying to step back a bit and let Lindsey shine now. Who knows? But keep your negative B.S. to yourselves. If you cant say something nice...why say anything at all?

Aren't these dramatic comments part of why we love Stevie? I don't doubt that she said exactly those words, or something similar to it. It reminds me of the "being in the army" statements she has made several times. I agree that she is being a bit dramatic, but that is just one of the things I love about her--she is always so over the top and out there. I just have to shake my head and laugh: "Oh, Stevie, you're at it again . . . "

She's only moaning cos she has no say in the schedule. It's all directed at Mick or someone in his management. She said almost the exact same thing about the Behind the Mask Tour dates (or whatever that tour was called), "
That's true. She was complaining that she didn't know where the band was going or doing from one day to the next. When you're in FM, you get a paper, get your marching orders, and you just show up where you're told or something, along those lines. I remember her saying that then. It's really no different than her saying Lindsey was the Ayatollah and they were hostages for Tusk. That's how she is.
But where Tusk was concerned, I think she's not the only one in the band who would say that the Tusk tour almost killed them all.
While I do want to see her whole statement and I hate when they are paraphrased, this sounds exactly like Stevie and I highly doubt she was taken out of context. For my money, she was talking about the grueling scheduling and nothing else. However, it doesn't mean that she was even upset when she said it or unhappy about the tour. The first leg was so short, she probably didn't have time to get seriously bothered. Now, I bet she wasn't smiling when she said this stuff, because she loves to deliver these lines in a deadpan manner, but she was being silly, as is her wont.
I just thought it was interesting that she said all 4 of them were nearly killed, indicating that the sentiment was universal.

The reporter might've caught her when she was beat, too.
The band has a very active role in determining the schedule and routing. If they absolutely want certain days off during the schedule, they can have them. Each of them signed off on every single date on this tour- if any one of them had a problem, they would have found an alternative.

Lindsey did say before the tour that he was taking his kids' spring break off and obviously he did, because Stevie just confirmed that's why they had the pause. And last tour he needed a pause to have a kid, which Stevie confirmed when they returned to Madison.
Actually, I plan my own schedule, but putting something on a calendar is a lot different than living through it, once the dates arise in real life. Somehow, I always think I have a lot more time and energy to do things a month before it's actually time to do them. Right now I'm scheduling myself to do things in mid-June and am quite gung ho, but I know I'll be crying the blues when June actually gets here.

So many years have gone by and she seems to have done a whole lotta nothing.I liked your post.
I think Stevie has done a lot of great work for charities & continues to do so, & she seems like a very nice lady, kind, gracious, well-bred. But maybe she doesn't have that desire to be a performer any more. I enjoyed her Soundstage from a few years ago (not the singing but the smiling & the commitment), but this Fleetwood Mac business drags her down (& probably drags them down, too, because of it).
If I were Stevie, I'd seriously consider getting off the road entirely & starting all those at-home projects she's always talked about: writing, painting, Rhiannoning, etc.
Something still drives her back out there, year after year. I don't know what it is, but I think it's some kind of negative impulse rather than a positive one (fear, for example, or anxiety or loneliness).

Adulation addiction - "the applause from it all is so defining...and it bounces off the wall at you...when that miracle is happeniiiiiing...high priestess, she's the keeper of the peace in this...twice as much intensified...what people will do...to get...this...HIIIIIIIGH!" :p
I believe a lot of performers get addicted to the rush of being applauded and screaming fans - whether it's in a tiny club of 250 people or an arena with 10,000+. And when they get off the road, they get post-tour depression. The only cure for that is to get back out on the road again. It was clear that she ate up the surprise element and the crowd's reaction to it when she toured with Petty, and when she sauntered from the shadows to join Henley on "Hotel California." I'm sure the adrenaline and endorphin rushes are just as good as snorting a line, without burning a hole through your nose.

I think one reason she continues to go out on the road with Fleetwood mac is out of loyalty.
John & Mick survive mostly on the income from touring. And then there's the other people who depend on Stevie for a living.
Mick once said she was an audience addict so she rises to the occasion-but I am sure that's not the only reason.

Little or no financial success in the USA but in Europe they were one of the biggest bands around for a while. Didn't they sell more than The Beatles and the Stones one year? (I remember reading that somewhere but it may just be wishful thinking...)

She complained about Lindsey being too much of a guy or having too much attention (or whatever) on the SYW tour so I don't think she's sitting back and giving him his space. If anything she probably wants him reigned in a bit.

Maybe she finally realizes that giving up motherhood and trading off finding herself a true love for her "rock n roll lifestyle" wasn't worth it afterall. Let's face it - she gave up such a huge part of being a woman that honestly, she really didn't have to do.
It's probably a lot easier to blame the world for your problems than to face the reality that you might have wasted the majority of the past 20 years of your life....
Human beings are constantly changing. It's within our essence to change. What you liked in yor 20s, you are not interested to when you are in your 40s, and so on. I hope she does not regret of being a star and dedicate exclusively to that. I hope she feels she made the right decision in THAT moment. Yes, the problem is when you are getting older, you may think "what didn't I do this, or that?" but I think that doesn't mean you made the worst mistake in your life.
I'm 42, single and no children, and I still think I made the right decision. I have my reasons. Will I feel alone sooner or later? Probably, but I wouldn't have a child just to not feeling alone. I think Stevie has similar issues. If she didn't (seriously)marry or become mother, I don't think it was just because being in Fleetwood Mac is like being in the army. I guess there were LOT of reasons (being an addict is one of those reasons. you are not emotionally ready for being mother or married). Maybe strong reasons at that moment. I just hope she is happy now, or she find joy anyway. And that she DO THINGS that makes her happy.
As Christine McVie. That's a good example. She changed. She wanted to be a singer, to be part of Fleetwood Mac. But noy anymore. I miss her, but we must respect her decisions. So Stevie, if touring does not make you happy, stop it! I'll miss you, but please stop. And thank you for your nice performance last thursday.
Happiness is found in many ways, not only the "standard" ways they have teached us.

I don't mind everyone's comments here. I may not agree with them but thats ok too. In the beginning of my 'fandom' of Stevie & Mac in like '88-'89....I'd have believed all that they said in interviews etc. But its been over 20yrs now & my views of all of them have changed. My fandom isn't what it once was. I personally chose not to pay the high ticket prices to this years concerts (& I don't regret it either)...I did see Stevie last yr (again) for CVtour#2 I'll call it. Before I went to that concert last summer the article about us fans stealing her music came out....all I could think of was what she stated....now how much truth was in that quote...who knows but its how the article was released....It still bothers me right now. I guess those are my own issues. I do agree with some of the posters here. I personally don't think the comments are negative ....I think as fans we need to be honest...heck at least with ourselves. I do think Stevie is whinning...when she should be so very thankful for all that she 'does' have in her life. These times are hard on all of us right now. Sometimes I don't think she's very sensitive to whats going on in the world itself. Maybe she needs a computer if only to read the headlines.....So yes , I may not agree with everyone here but you know what your entitled to state your opinion and so am I and well if we don't agree thats ok too...we just agree to disagree.....and theres not a thing wrong with that. :shrug:Great comments.....great points......Esp the last line......

Let's face it - she gave up such a huge part of being a woman that honestly, she really didn't have to do.
Talk about bitter. Who is the one here who continue to go on and on about a version of this band who had little to no commercial or financial success and longs for the days of Peter Green. Talk about washed up.
Wow. Peter Green is a seriously mentally ill man who was taken out of the game far too early by his demons. He is still considered one of the most highly influential blues-rock guitarists of all time. Anytime he straps on a guitar and plays to a crowd, it is a triumph of the human spirit. It is awe-inspiring. Anybody who cannot see that, and has to belittle it to make some cheap point on an internet board, is grotesquely immature, and is hardly worth debating.
I really do my best to no longer post negative things on here about any other band member but everyone seems to just rail on Stevie all the time.
Well, maybe if she would shut the hell up instead of comparing Fleetwood Mac to the Army, then she wouldn't be the target. But those comparisons, especially when there's a war going on, makes her seem especially shallow and completely clueless. Yeah, tell the guys at Walter Reed who got limbs blown off in combat just how much flying in private/chartered jets and sleeping in four-star hotels is in any way similar to their situation. If she had said that, given they're in their 60's now, the current schedule was especially rough and stressful for them, then I doubt most would have objected. If she had said that being in Fleetwood Mac was a total committment, not just something you could just show up to and be pretty, then I doubt most would have objected, either. Her choice of words is why she is criticized.
Get over it...she has been the focus of Fleetwood Mac whether you like it or not for the last 30 years.
I can't speak for Chili, but for me, that has nothing to do with it. The biggest reason I stopped going to see them had everything to do with the lack of perspective that Stevie and Lindsey have. When Lindsey said "I realized a dream I had wasn't going to come true, and I had to allow myself to mourn the loss of that dream" when I was working at homeless shelter, watching guys fight over mustard sandwiches, all while trying to sound profound, was especially insulting. Keep your damn therapy to yourself. I'm here for ROCK-N-ROLL!
That's ultimately why I went head-first into indie rock. I had dabbled a bit in it, but when Lindsey gave that speech, it was all over for me. I think a few are beginning to now feel this way as well with some of Stevie's comments. They need to get a perspective on the world they live in.

Of course Stevie is out of touch and lacks perspective. She's been a rich rock star for over 35 years. Duh. Add to that, both she and Lindsey came from affluent families to begin with. I doubt any of them has any idea how much a tank of gas costs or how much a loaf of bread costs. Rock and roll isn't a normal world; they can't relate to us and we can't relate to them. Doesn't mean I still don't love them though.
I honestly don't blame her for not loving the traveling: I dislike doing business trips, I don't care how exciting the destination, I'd rather be at home in my own bed these days--and I can imagine how Stevie feels: she's got 20 years on me. I imagine that she does feel obligated to do these FM tours for the sake of their crews, John & Mick, etc. And I'm equally sure that she doesn't have as good of time doing the group thing as she does doing her solo gigs: she's even stated this in past interviews. So you didn't like what she said in this interview--so don't read her interviews. Stevie is a Drama Queen. It's one of the things I've always liked about her.
But NOT being married and NOT having kids doesn't necessarily mean you've "lonely" or "unfufilled". I guess I didn't get the memo that told me I was supposed to be miserable b/c I don't have kids and never married (so far) either. Is it still 1950 or something around here?

I think you summed it up perfectly, Matt. Imagine us agreeing for once LOL! I definitely concur... it has nothing to do with this ONE comment. I think this once comment is the proverbial straw on the camel's lumbar  . I think what really irks everyone around here is Stevie's increasing negativity, deflection of blame, and deteriorating stage performances this past decade. If recording with Lindsey is awful, if touring is taxing, if your boots are killing you, if fans are "stealing" your music, if "nobody" is buying your albums, and you're so miserable, why are you still in it? Obviously not for the love of the craft. Hell, I bet Street Angel sold MORE than all of my favorite artist Joseph Arthur's albums COMBINED. But he's still putting out albums left and right, releasing a half dozen EPs a year, touring non-stop, etc. Obviously Stevie is in it just to be a mega rock star, and now that that is waning, she can't handle it.

You know, I never factored in the addict part. Stevie has given up coke, klonopin, and even drinking now. Fame has got to be her last addiction, the last place where she can get a "high." But even with my knowledge of addiction, her addiction to fame is just as dangerous (I dated an addict, who I hope is still in recovery). Fascinating points you made!

Look, I think Stevie is both annoying and entertaining, but as far as her having it too good to complain, I just can't buy this argument that you shouldn't say things because of the way the world is today, the war, the famine, the economy. I mean . . . there is always suffering somewhere; you can't be sensitive to it, in all of your words and deeds.
CNN has this awful Samsung commercial about a girl who is blind due to some explosions and every single time I see it, I wish so many things for that girl and NONE of them have to do with her getting her sight restored. Furthermore, none of them are non-violent. Maintaining charitable feelings on a constant basis is fatiguing.
I, for one, don't want the FM members giving a ton of interviews talking about how blessed they are. That annoys me. I applaud decadence.
So, the idea that she shouldn't complain because she has good things in her life while other people are doing without -- that just doesn't hold much sway with me. You carry that theory too far and we shouldn't complain that she's complaining. Some people can't afford internet access. So, everyone here is extremely lucky and indulged and should enjoy Pollyannic happiness 24/7 too -- but it's a good thing we don't or else there'd be precious little to discuss.

Again, I have to point to Robert Pollard, who has like 70 albums (since 1987) to his credit. No, he hasn't sold a million records nor tours that much anymore, he also doesn't spend a lot of time whining to the press how rough it is. BTW, when you're touring in vans, it IS rough. But, he grew up one of five in a small house in a blue collar neighborhood, went to college, had a family and a house payment, and worked fourteen years as a school teacher before realizing the dream and understands what it means to bust ass. His genius is his ability to write songs and make collages, his output is merely a matter of discipline and love of the craft.

Also, I just wanted to mention that when I saw this bit on some radio site (B 102.7?) I wondered where it came from and was quite glad to have it.
It gave me pleasure, chiefly because it reminded me of her talking about the horse in Crystal Visions. I giggled about that horse trying to kill her endlessly, because personification is one thing, but the way she describes things . . . her voice . . . I really developed an image of a horse plotting Stevie Nicks' death in my head. I was tickled silly. Took me back to the houyhnhnms in Gulliver's Travels.
For me, the idea of a vengeful itenerary nearly killing all 4 of them sparked a similar bout of laughter.

Yes but not everybody gets older the same way. I remember a tv show where Rita Moreno appeared in excellent shape and she danced like a young olympic champion (she was in her late 50s I guess), I turned to Mom and told her Hey Mom you can't do that, and we all laugh.

Stamp on that. I don't think I would ever have become interested in Stevie as a songwriter if she wrote about politics or the struggles of working class people or technology. And she certainly doesn't come across as a condescending phoney-baloney "woman of the common people," like Springsteen or Bon-Phony, who write about struggling people while sitting in their ivy-covered gated estates. Similarly she doesn't put on some kind of a homespun affect when she sits for interviews. She is oblivious, lacks self awareness and lives in her own head, which is why she has stayed so true to herself as an artist all of these years. The only times she has gone awry is when she caved into others' bad advice, e.g., the Timespace era. I think it's absurd to take pot-shots at this woman just because she is a spoiled, pampered, rich rock star who is being a bit dramatic (tongue firmly planted in cheek, surely) about the hectic touring schedule. She is entitled to her own drama just like everybody else. I get pissed off when I have to bring my BMW to the dealer and pay $200 for a freakin' oil change. But, hey... it's a BMW! I'm sure an orphaned kid foraging for food in the slums of Mumbai would love to be in my predicament.
It's all relative. We all are blessed yet we all have a right to our own angst. :wavey:

While I agree with what you're saying, I don't agree re: Bruce Springsteen. Just because someone isn't experiencing the trials of the working class, does not mean they haven't been affected to the point of being able to create art that many of these people feel a connection to. Stevie is fine doing what she does, but why is it that if an artist sings about things that are seemingly beyond their world they are labeled as phonies, hypocrites, and etc? And anyway, I think Bruce is a very sincere, humble guy. I know many people who have met him and known him and he treats everyone kindly and decently. I don't consider him a phony, nor do I feel he is overly-preachy. He just does what he does as well. Different scopes for different folks.:)

Ok, since I couldn't edit my post from my phone I'll just add here that today was a hard day for me with the stress of finals and ap tests coming up, so when I come to this site and read that people are saying awful things (imo) about my idol, someone that gets me through days like this, it makes me mad and frustrated that these things are being said about Stevie. We all have our own opinions about her and the crazy comments she makes sometimes, its just today I would have liked to read a good concert review or something, not people saying she's done and that she's wasted the last 20 years of her life. I'm sorry if I offended anyone, I just don't like negative things being said about someone I love, especially on a day like this. There's an easy fix for this! I just thought of it. TWO Rumours forums -- one for adulatory expression & one for denigratory expression. Also TWO Stevie Nicks forums, same bipartite structure. Anyone caught posting adulation in the denigration area, or denigration in the adulation area, will be warned or banned or whatever the penal code around here currently calls for.

Well, to me it comes across as condescending. I mean, for crikeys sake, his last album had a cheesy song called "Queen of the Supermarket" on it. When was the last time Bruce Springsteen was even in a supermarket?? And his supposed "humble" nature is contrasted by the fact that he still charges $100 for a ticket to one of his concerts. I'm not saying that he does not have the right to make a gazillion dollars or that he doesn't work hard for the money. But the ticket prices do seem to be prohibitively steep to the "common people" that he sings about. Let's face it- he is a high roller who likes to make lots of money and dons blue collar drag to sell the Springsteen brand.

Hejira, please don't think I'm trying to argue with you at all because you are totally entitled to your own opinion. You certainly don't have to like Bruce Springsteen, but some of the generalizations you are making I just can't agree with. Firstly, he has always made a concerted effort to keep his ticket prices lower than what would be expected for the show he puts on. I know for a fact that at some venues he has even bought out sections himself so that fans could get seats at lower prices, and he has been very vocal about scalpers and ticket vendors who scam people during online sales. He plays a very active role in all of that, and that kind of attention means something to his fans.
Also, I'm not sure we can say BS "dons blue collar drag" just to impress his "blue collar" image on everyone. How do we know how he dresses on his down time? Maybe he just likes wearing jeans and flannel shirts. It makes no difference because I'm sure most of his fans are there for the music, which is amazing. And the show, which is possibly the BEST live show I have ever seen in my life.
Call him a hypocrite or hate him as you wish, but no one can deny that Bruce Springsteen delivers in concert. And he plays straight through for hours, with enough energy and stamina as Mr. Buckingham himself. I, like you, never cared for Bruce for years...my dad was always pushing him on me, but I hated BITUSA and I didn't want to know. Until I saw him live. And heard the Rising. And now I'm in love.

So, you're saying that since Bruce has had a successful career, its impossible or intellectually dishonest for him to insinuate he has empathy for the common man?
Example. At every one of his shows for many years now, he goes out of his way to name-check and promote the local foodbank, giving prime real estate in the venue's concourse to the food bank for concert-goers to donate. You may believe this is all just to maintain his carefully cultivated image as a common man. The bottom line is that it makes a huge impact on cities across this country (especially now)- and he didn't/doesn't have to do it. The vast majority don't.

You are missing the point of what I am trying to say. Sure, Bruce Springsteen is going to have his houses and other luxuries. I am sorry but the man is stinking rich and it is expected. What shocks me here is that you and others are making it an issue- did you think the man was living in a small cottage somewhere in the wooded area of some forgotten town? I mean, really.
The point is that Bruce is a man who, although being wealthy and having a great deal of success, has not made a show of that in the way that he treats other people- especially his fans. In this way, he is humble. Humbleness is not a condition, it is a trait. Someone can be richer than Midas but know how to treat other people who many would label "lesser" due to economics, education, etc. However, a person could also have very little material wealth and still be condescending, uptight, a jerk.
You can go ahead and make a dated list of all of his purchases and items and this will not move me. I can see from witnessing the passion and love he puts into his performances, and the way he speaks, that he isn't someone who is putting on a front. I understand that some of you may be trying to argue a point about Stevie's excessive lifestyle and decadence...but let me remind you that I was never the one to critique that quality in her. It adds to her persona and, frankly, I am sure she's a nice lady. All I am saying is that to generalize someone who has money as not being "in touch" with others isn't right either.
My father is my greatest example. He came from a very poor, working-class family and worked hard for the successes he achieved in life. Never once did he make a show of it, although we had always been comfortable and had everything we needed. Whenever anyone needs anything, or if he can add any civic duty to his community or the world, my father is one of the first to stand up. He is a wealthy man with humble origins yet he never let any of that get to his head. So in some ways, I could totally make out lists of the things he has purchased and vacations he has taken my mother on, but it's pointless because I know what a great, generous, and humble person he is. Money does not account for that, it's just who he is.

I had read through this thread before I went to see them in STL. I was totally prepared to see her act tired or half-awake...but to be honest, she kicked A$$! she moved around and held her notes longer than I had previously seen in other shows on youtube from this tour. She didn't seem out of it at all. I was thoroughly impressed!! Of course Lindsey stole the show, running all over the stage and acting like a complete wildman! but thats never really been Stevie's thing. She twirls and dances around with her tambourine...same as she always has. Just a little slower.
and like someone already said...the "almost killed them all" quote could have been (and probably was) taken out of context. It was probably a joke.

I wasn't gonna say anymore in regards to Stevie or Mac about this thread. But......well.....I do have some feelings though. Personally, I think its sad when all of us here cannot just be aloud to 'express' our personal opinions without being blasted....for not being 'a true fan' ......heck really we all I'm sure have different definitions of what a true fan is. I also believe that it is healthy to be able to express those views amoung those people that do share those same interests. I also don't think others should be degraded or labeled not a fan because they express dislike because of something Stevie or the other members of Fmac have said or done. Personally , yes there is alot of what at least Stevie says now that I don't like much. I won't say its because of this or that. Honestly, I don't know why she says what she says. To just make some statement or make waves?? I do think being in the public eye that there is some responsiblity that does go with that whether any public figure has asked for it or not. Whether said figure acknowledges that or not.....(I'm not singling Stevie out here...I stated 'any' public figure)....Some people don't like the 'negative' vibe here. I don't see it all around just in the more important topics that mean something to all of us. Some state 'if you have nothing nice to say than don't say anything'.....well personally again this applies to public figures. 'If' someone doesn't understand the ramifications or the comments that they say in say interviews & such well than those public figures should also refrain from making such comments as well.(esp if they don't know what they are talking about ) Than yet ....we are fortunate that we(live in a country)that we can state how we feel and that we can express those said feelings.
I do not think that Stevie or Mac as some 'god' that is worth such praise....that 'they' do no wrong....that they are the end all be all of everything in music etc. I guess I'm in awe that some fans seem to feel this way. That we should all be happy that they are alive & still doing it. Well for there sakes 'yes' I am happy that they are doing 'it' whatever 'it' is for them. I for many reasons (the economy etc) don't feel the need to see them this yr or again 'live' same for Stevie......I think most of the ticket prices are outragous now. Yes probably most all music acts are out to make the 'buck' nowadays really.....lets not kid ourselves....but that doesn't mean I have to really contribute to that....but thats how I feel.....everyone is entitled to there own feelings....thats ok with me.
I just think we all need to let it go......it is what it is....life goes on no matter what....I may not agree with your comments about Stevie/Mac and you may not agree with me but you know you can have your opinion and I can have mine and let it be at that .....getting 'mad' at others isn't productive. Its really ok to agree to disagree and leave it at that......ok.......so lets all have a group hug or something........Have a really good and happy day everyone........Its all good really.......:angel::nod:

What I don't understand is why people keep hollering that the Ledge is so negative. I personally think it's simply balanced. We have some people that think Fleetwood Mac only sh!ts out platinum and diamonds, and others who think think it's time for them to throw in the tambourine (hehe). I think most people here lie somewhere in between the two. We're not brainwashed fans who think the band can do no wrong, but we're also not so jaded that we can't appreciate the good things too. To me, that shows the intelligence of the people here. Some boards are all about adulation. Honestly, where's the fun in that if we all agree? Wouldn't be very interesting to me. I for one LOVE a good debate. I like to play Devil's Advocate, say provocative things, and really see how people tick, what their thought processes are, and why. That's the purpose of these boards after all, isn't it? To throw around ideas, express opinions, etc.
The one constant we can say is this: when it comes to Stevie Nicks, people have very strong opinions of her, for better or worse, the past 35 years. Stevie is my absolute all time fav celebrity, vocalist, songwriter, and style icon, period. I adore the woman, no matter how nutty and annoying she can be. I do have to admit, her attitude and performances as of late have certainly muddied some of that for me. If Fleetwood Mac is going to charge $170+ for tickets (including fees) during a recession, they had better blow everyone's socks off. Stevie is phoning in her performances, refusing to interact with the audience or the rest of the band, and badmouthing the band, touring, and the record buying public every chance she gets. If she's gonna act this way, she should at least be touring behind some new music to offset those points some. But she's not. She just seems like she's cashing in on her loyal fanbase yet again, with a loaded gun up to her head. It's just unfortunate, because I think the rest of the band is more "on" than they've ever been, and happier than they've ever been. Stevie's dragging the show down, and for that, I cannot be grateful.

umm I didn't want to get back into this. But Maybe it was my Tina Turner comment that also set off some people. I seriously don't think i need to do this....because this is a freakin forum online, but i feel as if there may be people on this ledge that now think I am not a stevie fan now becuase of my earlier post.
So I love Stevie nicks, she is amazing I love her. i am soo grateful. There are countless times when her music and concert DVDs just get me through the day.....which is eveyrday. and I am a guy, and I am in Love with Freakin Lindsey Buckingham and Fleetwood Mac to a point where it's obsessive....but the comment that I made I felt was healthy because no matter How obsessd I get I know it's not healthy so i have been working on being on the opposing side of being a fan as well. Stevie does kick anyones butt and i am in love with her. So there...no harm done

Wow, that's quite the pedestal you have ole' Bruce on. So he's done charity drives--so has Stevie. Neither of 'em still has a clue as to how much a loaf of bread costs. Rock stars don't: they are filthy rich and spoiled to death and that's the best of them. But from that post you made listing all of Bruce's virtues, it's very clear you've made him into some sort of living saint. He's not, he's human just like the rest of us except his bank account is many sizes larger and quite frankly, a good argument could be made that he's slipped a bit in his game over the past 10-15 years. Personally his later work sounds very repetitive to me and have for quite a while now. I know for a fact that the last time I saw him live he was no where near as he was when I first saw him on the Darkness on the Edge of Town tour. But I'm not going to spend my time on one of his fan boards bitching about it. I just don't buy his albums anymore (although I'll still go see a show).
Here's the thing: there's an inherent danger in building up idols so impossibly high. One day they fall from that pedestal because there is no way in hell that anyone could possibly live up to the expectations that some of their most ardent fans have for them. Obviously Stevie has disappointed some here and they have become quite angry and embittered about it for whatever reason. Perhaps the blame doesn't lie with her as much as it should with some of you--in other words, instead of trying to attack her constantly as some here are now doing, maybe some of all that energy could be more constructively spent trying to figure out just why you feel so cheated and angry? Or better yet, in pursuing another hobby or interest?
But from the length of this thread and some of the innane comments I've read, it's just really obvious that there are some people here who have some weird agenda where Stevie is concerned. I've always thought the Ledge was really well-balanced in their gentle kidding and humor about the band and its members. I always liked it because it wasn't a "We love them 100%, 24/7" kind of fan forum. But lately there seems to be a cetain faction that seems determined to end Stevie's career by bitching about her endlessly. I have a suggestion for you: don't go to the shows. Don't buy the albums or the DVD's and don't post on the board if you don't like the band anymore. Go find another band or artist to project your whatever on. For people who claim not to like her or the band anymore, some of you seem to spend an unhealthy chunk of time here making sure that the rest of us don't forget how you feel.
And before anyone pigeon-holes me as some kind of "Stevie is Perfect" fan, I've got years of posts here that will prove I've never held back criticisim when it was justified.
Beyond that, so big deal if Stevie has given a lackluster show or two here or there (and even that is highly subjective as some of you whining about a performance at some shows have been countered by those who thought she was great or by reviews that stated otherwise). I'll give you this comparison: some days I don't give 100% at work because I don't feel 100%. I'm not 20 anymore. I'm not even 30 anymore. And the older I get, the more of those non-100% days I have. It does not mean that I don't still love my job passionately. It just means that there are days when I am physically unable to be there as much as I'd like to be due to health issues. But then there are the days that I am able to give 1000% percent. Hopefully the two balance one another out. So far my employer certainly seems to think so anyway--LOL. I imagine any musician has those same kinds of days: good and bad.
Anyway, all that I know is that everytime I've been lucky enough to see her over the years she's seemed into what she was doing. No, she's not the 20-or 30-something whirling dervish she was back in the day but she's decades older now then she was then (and not drugged out of her mind either). And I've seen some shows that were better than others. I don't expect a band to sound the exact same evey single time I see them nor do I expect them to sound the same way they did 30 years ago. Some shows are better than others. Some are worse. That's just the way that it is. You pay your money and you takes your chances as the saying goes. I just don't go expecting super-human performance from them 100% of the time because they're human. And time moves on. I just wish a few of the most strident voices in this thread would move on too.

Um, if this is directed all at me I'm very confused. I don't have Bruce Springsteen on a pedestal. I don't even idolize him. Rock stars, actors, etc. are just creative people who's art we enjoy. Which is what I was getting at. It was so important for you to clarify your agenda but you totally misinterpreted what I said and warped it into something entirely different. By all means believe what you want to. I'm really not trying to argue with you or anyone. I was simply stating my opinion of artists/musicians who sing about subjects that some people feel they shouldn't because they're being hypocritical. I was using Bruce as one example of many. Yes, I think he's a cool humble guy...but that is it.
To be quite honest DeeGeMe, the only person I would ever hold on a pedestal is my dad. I'm sorry if my opinions offended you and got you irked enough to write such a response to me, if it was directed only at me. I'm not even sure. But really, I'm so over this. Can we agree to disagree?:wavey:
And re: this thread...I forgot what it was even about. I also want to clarify to everyone here that I like Stevie Nicks as well. I think she's great and always have. So I hope people aren't thinking that, because I raved about Tina or defended Bruce Springsteen's image, that I am some anti-Stevie, materialistic-hating, pedestal-placing Lindsey fan I just want to assure (even if you do not need it) that I have nothing but utmost respect for her talent and have always liked her. May not agree with things she does, says, or enjoy all of her solo music, but she is still a legend and absolutely a star. And she still rocks. So just in case any of this thread may have gotten twisted to appear that I was bashing her, I never did.

Can I just say something thatnot one person has addressed. Stevie is absolutly. right about the schedule being intense. I was thinking that and was radalmost going to make a thread shortly before this article was posted. Just look at it. They played 5 shows in a one week period. The dates are way more crammed then the Say You Will Tour.

True true. That would be a busy week for a 20-something-year-old band.

Thank you! And thanks to all that have mentioned the fact that these people AREN'T in their friggen 30's anymore! I, too can't believe the negativity on this board- and it's SOOO embarrassing to know that it's SOOO noticable- it's being mentioned on the other boards! How embarrassing!
And I just can't wrap my mind around the logic that we're all supposed to always agree, and blindly love and accept all things Mac around here  . I also can't understand why you're embarassed about a message board? I don't really think that message board activity has much to do with the person you are in your daily, REAL life. And if it's such an "embarassment" in your 'online life,' why waste time here? I'm not trying to be nasty at all, or suggest you go elsewhere (who am I to do that?). I'm just trying to understand your (and other similar people's) thought processes. Do you not want there to be healthy, intelligent discussion and debate about very real Mac topics? The things we discuss and debate are real, factual issues. Most people for this tour are complaining about Stevie's performance quality. Obviously that's highly subjective, but if people go to concerts, or watch vids on youtube, it's not blind speculation or unfounded rumor starting. We're just discussing tangible stuff, stuff that can physically be seen by ever last one of our eyes. It's not like I'm making up that Stevie probably has cottage cheese thighs, and that MUST be what's causing her perfomance slips! Or that her magical witchery and satanic cult following has clearly built up in her bloodstream over time, poisoning her performances  .
I think at this point in the game, the closest thing we can compare the Mac/Stevie to are pro athletes. The thing is, when runners, basketball players, golfers, etc get to a point where they can no longer be physically competitive, then they get out of the professional game, period. They may transfer their careers into related arenas (being a commentator, doing the occasional charity sporting event, etc), but the point is, they throw in the towel professionally when it's time. Even their biggest fans will admit when that time has come. I just don't see how it's sacrilige if someone feels that Stevie has clearly slipped, and it might be time for her to consider moving on. Or, that if Stevie is so miserable in the Mac, then she might want to consider keeping it solo, or focus on her Rhiannoning  . It's just an opinion, and opinions never hurt anybody... . Mind expansion, debate, and hearing opposite opinions certainly never hurt anybody either.

I love that we have a few insiders that either confirm or deny our assumptions... I love that if I spell a FM member's name wrong or mispunctuate I'll get flamed into the fires of mordor!!!

First of all...WOW are you shallow! LOL.. When has anyone actually come on here and said that EVERYONE is supposed to "Agree"??? Everyone has different opionions- Secondly.. "You're asking me WHY I would be embarrassed of a message board with SOOOO much negativity that it has been noticed by MANY people in the "Stevie/FM Community" and has flowed over to other boards??? I can't even believe you're asking ME such a silly question!!:( - That just tells me you dont have much common sense. I'm not only a member of this group- but a "SUPPORTING Member" who as DeeGeMe mentioned- loved coming on and seeing the balance of this group- which was fair! Now... if you DARE open your mouth to mention anything GOOD about Stevie- one seems to have their freakin heads blown off! It's WORSE then horrible!
Third of all- Yes, you ARE Nasty in asking ME "WHY I DON"T GO ELSEWHERE- when "I" pay good MONEY to be here! Maybe you can consider that one- since you don't! Or maybe try consider- "RE-Considering" some of your negativity- and have just a tad more respect about some of the other members who "DO" happen to love Stevie and the Mac, and who like me, have gone back with them for over 35 years!!!!

I will say that it "used" to be a fun place to come to see everyone's differences of opion- as they were all spoken in a completely different manner then they are being spoken in today! When I hear that the negativity from this board has been carried over to other "Stevie/FM"boards, then it's gotten out of hand, IMO..

holy crap...this board has turned negativity into a credo...The negativity on the Ledge that brings me down isn't the negativity directed toward the band but toward other ledgies.
i'm on several boards and i have to say that if u dont like stevie thats fine but there are a lot of us who love her...ur all entitled to ur own opinions but sometimes ur opinions are just plain nasty...My view is that it's better to be nasty about Fleetwood Mac than it is to be nasty about fellow ledgies.
stevie nicks is fleetwood mac...lindsey buckingham is fleetwood mac...they've tried it with other members and it just didnt work...I thought it worked beautifully back when a bunch of guys recorded "Man of the World" & "Before the Beginning." I spent about an hour yesterday on YouTube watching all the "Man of the World" covers, by kids with guitars & bar bands & even Midge Ure, & I absolutely loved hearing everyone's take on such a beautiful song, a song that insinuates itself into one's consciousness & doesn't let up.
u guys should be greatful that she and lindsey are able to get up there night after night and try to put on the best show they can...Why is it important to you that I be grateful to Lindsey & Stevie? Isn't it sufficient that you're grateful, if that's how you feel?
all this crap makes me down right pissed...I reiterate: Taking potshots at Fleetwood Mac is preferable to taking potshots at other ledgies. IMO.
have u ever heard the phrase "if u can't say something nice about someone don't say anything at all"?Sort of puts a clog in the Ledge sink though, doesn't it? Maybe we can start by not yelling at other ledgies for saying what they want to say about Fleetwood Mac? Just a thought.

I will say that it "used" to be a fun place to come to see everyone's differences of opion- as they were all spoken in a completely different manner then they are being spoken in today! When I hear that the negativity from this board has been carried over to other "Stevie/FM"boards, then it's gotten out of hand, IMO..
Ok, I'm gonna try once again to sanely explain my thoughts to you. I wish you'd stop feeling like anyone who disagrees with you is attacking you, because that simply isn't the case. I've been a member here for 8 years, and was a lurker here long before that (I see you've been a member for about 2). I can say with the years I've been here, that the Ledge has ALWAYS been very aggressive and passionate. It ebbs and flows, but overall it's ALWAYS been a fiery place. At first it was intimidating, and I viewed it to be a lot of negativity... but as time passed, I saw that was not the case at all. People just had different ideas, and liked to discuss them in sometimes heated fashions. Kinda like The View  . I've been members of other Mac boards, and over the years the Ledge has been the only one that's kept me coming back. Why? The absolutely variety of people, and the huge amount of information and highly varied experiences and points of view.
And before you get preachy about people once speaking differences of opinion around here in a more civil fashion, just look at the way you just responded to me. I haven't called you any names, but when I disagreed with you, you called me a laundry list of names: shallow, lacking common sense, etc.
I see you've been a fan for 35 years, you're a Ledge supporter, etc. I truly think all that's great. Says a lot about the band, that they have such lifelong fans. I've been a fan for close to 20 myself. And honestly, if I didn't think the Mac brand was a great thing, I wouldn't be here myself. Just think about it that way. Over my two decades of fandom, I've seen the band and it's members go through good and bad periods. I personally saw the Time lineup perform, and if you think I'm bitching now, you shoulda heard me back then! Honestly, my biggest beef with the band/Stevie right now is the lack of new material, and Stevie's very blase attitude on stage and in the press. And for the record, I've got NO problems pointing out the good too! I about peed my pants when the band pulled out Storms for this tour. I ADORE Stevie's burgandy dress. I think Lindsey's energy and passion on stage is FANTASTIC! I just think Stevie's acting like a spoiled, pouting rock star right now. A big part of me is totally upset they are touring right now instead of recording, because I TRULY think that S&L are at the top of their songwriting games. I'm just so afraid that this tour is going to cause more tension and petty infighting between the two, and we won't see one last great Mac album. See? I'm not a COMPLETELY negative nelly! And these are my opinions, and I'm sticking to them! :woohoo:

The negativity on the Ledge that brings me down isn't the negativity directed toward the band but toward other ledgies.
My view is that it's better to be nasty about Fleetwood Mac than it is to be nasty about fellow ledgies.
I thought it worked beautifully back when a bunch of guys recorded "Man of the World" & "Before the Beginning." I spent about an hour yesterday on YouTube watching all the "Man of the World" covers, by kids with guitars & bar bands & even Midge Ure, & I absolutely loved hearing everyone's take on such a beautiful song, a song that insinuates itself into one's consciousness & doesn't let up.

Hey David..
The point you seem to be missing here.. is "this" is supposed to be a "Stevie/FM" board, right? The negativity that people are seeing, comes from people directing it TOWARD the band! That's the sad thing! No one is saying that people aren't entitled entitled to their opinions- but the stuff that has come across that I've read- well, I didn't even want to be "involved" with this thread in the first place as my blood pressure was off the charts due to the rediculous comments "Toward the band"... No one has come on and said that everyone is supposed to adore the band 24/7, as that is always why I came on here in the first place- to read the gentle differences of opinion... Everyone knows "how" to go about saying things without "dissing" the band- that is why we are all on this list for, in the first place! To me, it's gotten so out of hand, that when other boards have a thread devoted to OUR board, and the negativity from it, then that's pretty sad, JMO...
I've made some fantastic friend's here, and appreciate people's differences of opinion, but have a zero tolerance for when the negativity gets out of hand, as it is, then it's a sad day, again - JMO

But when other Ledgies start calling each other "shallow" and "lacking common sense," THAT'S when we get into trouble! We can all be fans in our own ways, and that's the way it should be. That's a good point. So many people are crying for us all to be lovey dovey... when the Mac, even to this day, has ALWAYS been a very heated, fractional, infighting entity. Heck, the stuff that goes on at this message board is CHILD'S PLAY compared to the stuff these kids are STILL doing to one another! Let's all lighten up!

Same here. The way I figure it, all of us fans have collectively paid the Mac's bills for the past several decades. For all intensive purposes, we're their employers. So we not only have a right to view their work with a critical eye, it's our responsibility. When was the last time any of us could tell our employers that they weren't allowed to critique our job performance?
Case and point. Stevie herself feels Street Angel was a clunker (I actually highly disagree, I think there are some real gems on that ablum). Obviously the fans agreed, and didn't buy the album. This caused Stevie to step it up for her next album, which she did! TISL was fantastic! She realized through poor sales and reviews, that she wasn't living up to her full potential as an artist, and she corrected it! Maybe, just maybe the band will be able to do the same after this tour. They aren't selling like they used to, so maybe they will realize they need to hit the studio, blow us out of the water with one hell of an album, then hit the touring circuit again with new vigor. One can dream, right?

The reason so many of us are "negative" with our posts is because we care so much about the band. We've poured so much time and money and love to these people that it's hard for some of us to not get offended when we read the kind of comments that Stevie (for example) has said in recent times. I know in my case it would cost several hundred dollars just to go to one Fleetwood Mac concert this year, which is why I cannot and will not be able to see them on this tour. I reckon that it's the same way for a good number of people on this board. I find it offensive that any of the band (or any musician for that matter) would complain about touring. You're getting paid thousands of dollars to sing and play instruments, you agreed to perform all these dates, go out there, suck it up and do it!
Let's be realistic, nobody has posted anything that's too harsh or too criticial or too personal in this thread. I've seen and read postings far worse than anything that's been said here.

To be fair to Springsteen in interviews he said he wrote that song after going to a supermarket for the first time in years, which is probably why it turned out so bad
As for his ticket prices, personally I've found him to be one of the cheaper bigger acts. I know it cost me far less for tickets to his concerts in recent years than it has Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, Dolly Parton, Neil Diamond, Stevie Nicks or Fleetwood Mac, to name but a few.
Not joking here. Why don't we do this?
I think there's an entire board for that, it's called Seven Wonders :D
The negativity on the Ledge that brings me down isn't the negativity directed toward the band but toward other ledgies.
Amen to that. And come on people, where else are we going to bitch about setlists, outfits, performances etc, and have people interested, than on a messageboard about the band? It seems silly to me to complain about negativity or worse start taking it out on other Ledges because they don't blindly idolise the band, when all it means is that they are passionate about the band and their music.

I just don't get the whole Stevie is slipping or athlete comparison. Maybe if the athlete we compare her to is Terrel Owens. He's getting up there in age not the reciever he was 10 years ago (ie Stevie before 1986) but he's still an AMAZING reciever, who has a bit of an attitude problem and has basically admitted to not giving it his all 100 percent of the time. He can at times still be the best player on the field when he's not whinning or phonning it in. Stevie is phonning in the majority of the unleashed concerts, but for me personally Storms alone being played for the first time ever and Stevie singing so freaking well more then makes up for the rest of the show. Her having retired or gone into broadcasting before this tour would've robbed us out of those performances and for that 6 minutes she is still the star wide reciever. And in addition to Storms I among many others including Brian who has been to or at least seen hundreds of bootlegs of Gold Dust Woman called her performance of GDW a week ago the best ever.
She's in no way slipping to me at least not going on Modern Stevie Era levels of we'll say Dance onward. She has a very valid point with the schedule and is simply conserving most of energy and really focusing on great vocal performances and knows she can rely on Lindsey to carry the show from start to finish.
And I think I gave myself my new sig- Stevie Nicks- "The TO of Fleetwood Mac"

There are things I don't like about this board, but the critical band posts in this thread are not among them. I'm honestly confused about what constitutes acceptable negativity & what constitutes unacceptable negativity.
People keep saying that it's OK to voice your opinions, but don't go too far, as it were. I don't know how the distinction between acceptable & unacceptable is outlined, or where in the Dirt of Negativity the actual Line of Acceptability is drawn. I'd need actual examples of the respective categories. (I promise to stop allegorizing like Everyman.)
If I say (as I did after seeing the Mac in 2003 in Anaheim) that "Stevie Nicks was zonked," is that acceptable or unacceptable to the ledgies who are mad at me?
What about if I say (as I just did further down in this thread) that "Lindsey should stop singing in public"? Acceptably negative or unacceptably so?
How about "Mick can't keep time anymore worth a squat"? How about "Stevie IS Fleetwood Mac"? Someone's bound to be insulted by that, after all.
Suggestion for fellow forum members: If someone says something about the band with which you disagree, reply by highlighting the section with which you disagree & then explain your disagreement, providing your alternative views.

I haven't read every single post in this long thread -- I'd be here all day. But I saw one of Louie's posts a few pages back, and wanted to respond.
Stevie is my absolute all time fav celebrity, vocalist, songwriter, and style icon, period. I adore the woman, no matter how nutty and annoying she can be. I do have to admit, her attitude and performances as of late have certainly muddied some of that for me.
Stevie is phoning in her performances, refusing to interact with the audience or the rest of the band, and badmouthing the band, touring, and the record buying public every chance she gets.
Louie, my friend -- in all the most recent interviews, where has Stevie badmouthed the rest of Fleetwood Mac? If she has, I completely missed that. Also what's this about her "refusing" to interact with the rest of the band? I haven't been to any of the shows (I believe you've said that you haven't either), but I've read many times about her going over to John and sharing a laugh with him. Smiling and making faces with Mick. Laying her head on Lindsey during the end of "Sara." Holding hands with him. Etc., etc. And she certainly looks content enough to me in the pics I've seen.
When it comes to her statement about the tour -- as I read it, she wasn't bashing the tour itself, only the schedule. Reminds me of the time on 'The Osbournes' (yes, I admit to having watched a few episodes) when Ozzy was in a complete tizzy because they scheduled him to perform two concerts in a row (he's the same age as Stevie, for the record).
One can still love performing while also not wanting to utterly exhaust themselves in the process. The two things aren't mutually exclusive.
As far as her comment that "people are stealing our music" -- it can't be bashing when it's the truth. Just about every single artist in the music industry will corroborate her statement. On the positive side, she's said on several recent occasions that she wants to make new music again, whether it's commercially successful or not. So she seems to be coming around again.
[*** I should note that the following is no longer in response to Louie.]
Despite my reputation as a "Stevie Defender," I've never been opposed to criticisms of her or the band, so long as they're presented fairly or reasonably (of course, I fully recognize that everyone has their own perspective on what's "fair" or "reasonable").
David O., for example, can completely break down every single aspect that he doesn't enjoy about a track (oftentimes one of my favorites), and I thoroughly enjoy reading what he has to say -- because his tone is calm and rational, and his opinion has been well articulated.
Maybe, and I could be wrong here, but just maybe some of the people who express displeasure with the tone of certain threads, aren't against criticism, per se, but the sometimes over-the-top, seemingly unrelenting way it's presented. Although they most certainly shouldn't use that as an opportunity to bash other Ledgies. The carping and passive-aggressive sniping is the worst part of any message board, and one would hope that anyone over the age of 15 would move beyond that.
Stevie's withstood 35 years worth of criticism, and she's still around. Her career isn't going to suddenly end because of criticisms presented on a message board. Plus, the people on here who criticize her, do still buy the albums, still go to the concerts, or at the very least still spend their valuable time talking about her. She's only really in trouble when all of that stops.

Exactly - and she and FM are still commanding top dollar, though I readily admit they, on a tour with no record to support, are only at 90% or more capacity on average. So, despite all the naysayers, she and they must be doing something right  And, who is to say that all of that 10% or so would buy a ticket if it were $25 less. I am sure many marketing people spent hours using their harvard degrees figuring out FM's price point to ensure max. capacity per gross rev.
In the end and IMO - La Nicks needs to move on from her Gold Dust tour, which she has been essentially doing (with some major differences like Henley concerts during the initial GD tour and the Summer of Petty) for the last three years. I think she is going to move on after this tour.
As for her bashing -- I think people take what she says way to literally. For example, some "fan" awhile back said she was insulting the troops to some horrible degree by saying being in FM was like being in the army, etc. I mean give me a fukcing break - the lady has her not so good points (a lack of interest in a good vocal on the likes of Dreams or Rhiannon standing to the front for me) - but she hardly rises to the level people, mostly naysayers, ascribe to her

And ridiculously so IMO. But, opinions are like a$$holes . . . .
have you actually never heard this expression used in the vernacular - are you that out of touch? More likely, you are stirring the shiitte because no one is that naive, stupid, and/or ridiculous IMO to think that she actually meant it literally.
I mean
Yes, that was once the (lame) excuse that her defenders used to rationalize her insensitivity. However, this time, she went out of her way to elaborate on her generalization to show exactly what she has meant by it all these years.
You see, its not just the regimented/disciplined environment that comes by being a professional in general... but also the frightening, uncertain scenario of going to faraway lands (touring), putting yourself in a potential combat scenario (Lindsey the meanie) for who knows how long (read the damned contract next time).
Forget "costs a gazillion times more", "we wish we could play for free", "why bother recording"- those lines, more than anything, just present her as the relatively clueless person we can all pretty much concede her to be. She lives in a different world of celebrity and doesn't have a real idea on what the world is like around her, and who her fans truly are. As fans, we accept this as a necessary flaw, or even something that might even make her more charming (as I've seen suggested on these boards in this past week).
The army/Iraq analogy, however, reeks of pure idiocy and insensitivity. Its completely indefensible, and not something that can be excused (before anyone brings up the iPod's/Walter Reed/etc- a gesture can never override an overarching belief) Unless she was misquoted the dozens of times she's used this general analogy, this is how she believes.

Brian! Glad to see you're throwing in your chips, I haven't seen you post in forever! :xoxo:
You're correct, I haven't seen the band perform this tour. But I did see them 3 times during the Say You Will Tour, and have seen plenty of videos from this current tour. And that's why I've chosen to sit this one out. I must say, the early shows of the Say You Will tour were just electric to me. The kids were all so ON and there was an energy of freshness coursing through the band with the new dynamic, sans Christine. Lindsey was a wildman, and I think Stevie really enjoyed the additional breathing room in the set. You can tell both parties were wildly proud of their new material. Something happened during that tour though, which I don't think the band has recovered from yet. By the time the band rolled into Charlotte in the summer of 2004, they didn't seem to be having much fun. New songs had been dropped, and Stevie especially had become very disinterested. Through all the Mac concerts I've seen this decade, she absolutely won't interact with the audience. She won't make eye contact. She just blindly stares out into space. Especially the last show I saw them, Stevie just couldn't seem more disinterested. I think that's something that you have to experience in person, and be up close to recognize. She just seemed to be going through the motions. Having seen that in person, I can recognize many of the same things in videos from this latest tour. It's like she's lost her Mac muse. She's almost went into this tour with a chip on her shoulder from the last Mac outing, where she admittedly didn't have a great time. It's all just so very different from seeing her solo. She interacts with her audience, she's much looser, happier, chattier, etc. I think the happiest and most INTO performing I've ever seen Stevie was the opening night of Tom Petty's tour in Charlotte a few years ago. Stevie was just glowing. Seeing her perform Insider with Tom for the first time in nearly 2 decades sent chills throughout me, and you can tell it truly affected her the same way. I just wish she could get some of that mojo back for her Mac performances. I'm really hoping the Mac will close out this tour, go straight into the studio, and record some magic to change things up a bit. Maybe that's all it is... Stevie's just bored from singing Rhiannon for 35 years straight?

Stevie Nicks Dislikes the Pace
Following Fleetwood Mac's concert at Tulsa's BOK Center Sunday, May 3rd, several concert-goers called Star 103.3 to say that they thoroughly enjoyed the show, but that Stevie Nicks appeared to be "tired". Well, she probably was. According to Stevie, the schedule for the first leg of Fleetwood Mac's Unleashed tour gave the band members only a few days off. "The schedule was horrific and nearly killed all four of us," Nicks said. "So they've actually gone back in and changed a few things around so we could have two days off every once in a while. Because it was two on one off, two on one off, one on one off, two on one off...it's like, 'Are you trying to kill us?'" Promoter Live Nation has worked more off-days into the second leg, which now runs through late June.

It looks like May is jammed packed with dates though. Doesn't sound like Stevie is very happy about touring...hmm.
I think she hates when things aren't her way...when she tours solo she seems soo much happier and probably has things more her way then having to compromise....she gets on the road with FM and gets so dramatic...and look how happy she looked for her Soundstage thing in NYC....must have been a breath of fresh air for her!

I don't wish to be perceived as negative, but why the aversion to sentence structure, commas and periods? Why "u" instead of "you," and why "u'll" instead of "you'll."
I appreciate the statements you post, but clear and literate communication, as well as credibilty, is severely strained with these perculiar mannerisms. In other words, the message you are trying to convey loses its impact, Sorry if you take this the wrong way, however I am a professional writer and student of English, and I hate to see written communication so hacked up and disrespected. I think PenguinHead was trying to be helpful. I just completely skip posts that take too much work to decipher due to lack of punctuation and proper spelling. I'm probably not the only one who does. Maybe I/ we miss out on some great thoughts and insights because of this.

Well, if he was "trying" to be helpful, which was doubtful, there's a way of saying something that doesn't come across as negative- like he was! If you re-read the sarcasm and the underlying rudeness in his post, you'll see otherwise yourself. Just because someone substitutes "tho" for example for "though" doesn't mean they aren't getting a point across, and Pat's posts are "NOT" illiterate by any stretch of the imagination! She completely gets her point across, without someone having to "take time" to decipher anything! I don't come on here to look for people's posts for their "annunciation" of words, and grammar, even though English was my major, way back when! I'm not a English Teacher wanting to grade papers, I come on here to read people's points of view on what they have to say, etc...:D- That's what's important here! IMO.

You're right -- I feel the same way as you and PenguinHead about the "im to lazy to uz proper gramer n speling" attitude that I see on quite a few message boards. I don't claim to be a complete expert in grammar, spelling, and punctuation (even though I have an English degree), but I end up skipping a lot of the posts that you're describing just because it takes too much time to decipher. (Sorry if that last sentence was a run-on sentence -- that's my worst habit in writing! ) I don't want to have to take up a lot of mental energy in translating codes and abbreviations....
I believe there is a time and a place for everything. Text messaging and chat rooms, where you have to type fast and you're posting between friends, is the best place for so-called netspeak. Otherwise, posts of general interest on message boards should be written so that they can be understood by everyone.
That's just my 2 cents. ;)

As a fellow complainer / drama queen, I sympathise with Stevie. I really do. lol.
I know that in a way, she "lives for touring"...she seems to love being on the road, but at the same time, she gets really tired of it, which is understandable.
I've got nothing else to say about this, except that for their Australian shows this year, they've got large gaps between each show. I think the Melb shows (3 of them?) began on 1 December. Their next lot of shows which I think are in Sydney...I'm not even sure they've started yet...so they do seem to be having some days off in between cities, which is nice.

Good Lord that woman is sucha damn whiner! Is she EVER happy or satisfied?? Working 3 hours a day, every other day for a month stretch would sure wear me out too.
I would imagine that the "3 working hours" is the least of the problems. There's the travelling, dealing with the press and fans and sleeping a strange bed each night which would take the toll. Remember she's no spring chicken. And we are the first to moan if she isn't as lively as we would expect.
