Hi All :wavey:
Why doesn't Stevie do Rooms on fire? It was as big as eg If Anyone Falls, and its the most recent, that a lot of people know of because it was in the late 80's...
So whats up with that?

This is just speculation, but maybe she loves it but her handlers want her to shy away from that dreary era where she was doing the pills.
Or, maybe she feels the same.
Hahaha
One word for you ... "Alice"
I think its what he said ^
I dont actually like her doing if anyone falls, becasue the harmonies just dont work live AT ALL on the chorus line. i.e. the soundstage version sounds very ... lazy and subdued :o(sorry)

My friend and I flew to LA to see the last Pondering the Millennium show at the HOB 1/4/00 and I was very much looking forward to hearing Rooms on Fire since it was in the set for the last 3 shows. Unfortunately Stevie broke her toe (or stubbed it or something) after the Vegas 12/31/99 show and dropped ROF for the last of the shows.
This was also the first time I witnessed the Frankenboks first hand.

I think she likes to pretend the years 1986 to 1996 never happened, that's why.

I'm guessing her toe still must have been hurting her during the recent solo tours, so that's why she hasn't done it.
I wasn't too crazy about rooms on fire in 99. Maybe it's best that it is out of the set. It wouldn't hurt to hear how it sounds today though.

I like the Spanish guitar, and the slow "there is magic all around u" parts, but other than that i never got what the big deal about this song was. :shrug:To me it was always kinda "eh":sorry: also it wasnt as big a hit here in the states as it was in Europe or elsewhere, back when i lived in Australia, i was *SHOCKED* at how many people knew rooms on fire, and how much airplay it got. the 99 version is decent, but people complained (surprise) that it was "too sped up". Id b ok if she put it in the set, but not OVER or BEFORE a rare one.

Didn't Brett say in his q&a or something that it was too vocally taxing?

I actually often think some of the songs on TOSOTM would be well suited to her "present day" vocal range.

YEP. There's what like 5-7 notes total in Rooms on fire?
Just listen to it. (again, i do like parts of it sometimes, but still:rolleyes:)
She had trusted many = (all of 3 monotone notes in various position)
and then there would be someone who would enter into her presence ( ya, all those words, and about 2 notes total:lol::rolleyes:
Same with the chorus. there's NO WAY that's two vocally difficult. I remember some ledge members met waddy after some of the vegas shows, and asked him about it, and all he did was run his finger past his neck like it has been cut.

I have often wondered why this song never makes it into the set list. I love it, it is one of my favorites!:)

I like the performances of it from the 1994 tour. It's on the House of Blues radio show, I think.
I like the way she sang "Somewheeere ... sooomewheeere ..." during the synth intro during the 1989 tour.

Right from Waddy's mouth, Stevie has said she refuses to do anything from OSTOM-SA again. He just said it was a tough time in her life and doesnt want to sing songs from that era.

Wasnt that the reason Sara was NO where to be seen for a while though too? And now she seems to enjoy singing it, and i think realizes how much everyone else wants to hear it. I understand not wanting to revisit painful memories, but really Stevie? neglect two albums that alot of fans do love? Really?

Actually it did make the Billbord pop top 20 here at no. 16 ..and it is the last song by anyone in the Fleetwood Mac contingent to do so.

She just decides willy-nilly whether she wants to revisit something old or not, deciding after the fact whether she was happy enough to want to revisit that time. She really goofy.

Well, "ACTUALLY" it was still a bigger hit outside the U.S., and Still gets MUCH more air play in Australia than it does in the states.

I don't know if that one is on my other hard drive. I'll look. The way she sings "there is maaaaagic" at the very end gives me chills. It's so reminiscent of the way she sang it on the record 10 or so years earlier.

Yeah, I've always loved ROF....I got to see her perform it live for SA tour. (& TTM too) it was so awesome......Yeah, like someone said she did at least perform...Rose Garden (SA) & WLT (Mirror) for the Enchanted tour.....That's a sad reason to me to not perform something. Yes, she Stevie & she can do what she wants to but you did record those songs & at that time they were good enough. I just don't buy it. I think its just an excuse becaue she only wants to do the same songs cause she's comfortable doing only those songs anymore. Its sad cause you'd think as a performer you yourself would want to mix it up some & for the audience too. Oh well....not gonna happen....it would take too much effort. I guess besides the high ticket prices & all thats some of the reason I won't spend the $$ to see her or Mac live anymore........but thats only my opinion.....anyway....it is what it is......

Was it?? Not in Peru. I guess she didn't have big hits in Peru after Stand Back. Talk to me was a well known single, but not a hit. And RoF was not a popular single, so never was a hit. Again I mean in this side of the planet

Yeah! Its Rooms on fire is one of the songs that my friends (who don't listen to stevie) know, that and probably e017 are her biggest hits in nz. I don't think Stand back was as popular here as in the us

And where did I attempt to contest any of those statements?:shrug:I know it hit 12 on the UK pop charts and OSOTM made it all the way to no. 3 there.I think it is a great single ..one of her best.

Just have a look on NICKSFIX, and it tells you the billboard number it got to in the US.
ROOMS ON FIRE 16
(Even thought i'm from Aus)
By the way, i didn't know she performed this in the late 90's?? How did i miss that? lol
would like to hear if anyone can be bothered uploading... though from what you are all saying, i'll be disappointed
Oh.. lol, and another thing, on the mention on the House of Blues, AT LAST is my favourite live song of Stevies... just perfection. I haven't heard any other songs performed

I have two dreams in life.
One is for Kylie Minogue to tour North American (which is finally coming true this fall). yay.
The other is to go to a Stevie show and have her open the set with Rooms On Fire (which is never going to happen).

Well for what its worth, I heard that for the Gold Dust tour they rehearsed Rooms on Fire, but it didn't make the final cut. And then, I heard they rehearsed Whole Lotta Trouble for the Crystal Visions 07 tour and her 08 dates but it never made the set. Plus, she even says in the CV documentary she wanted to put WLT back in the set.
I remember reading an article when she was doing press for Crystal visions. The interview went into every record and I know she said this about OSOTM: "I loved the way those songs turned out, and still do actually." So just to know that she DOES enjoy that record makes me happy. :)

She just doesn't have a good reason to NOT play those songs.
So they remind her of a time in her life when she wasn't completely happy? Well get over it, it was 20 years ago!

Yet, she performs songs that she wrote about Robin. I was really disappointed that Soundstage didn't even have a single RAL or OSOTM song. I like it when she does covers, but I'd like it a lot more if she did stuff from those albums. She doesn't have a reason not to - and the fans want to hear it.

I never knew Waddy had said this. Was it recently? I seem to recall a fairly recent interview when WLT came up and Stevie said something to the effect of possibly putting back in the set because it's such a rocking song. But then again, Stevie says lots of stuff that doesn't mean anything.

Wouldn't you just love to hear her sing 'Julia' on stage once? I think that song is a better tribute to Robin that even 'Gypsy'.

I have to be in the mood for that record but when I am, it's the best! Doing the Best that I Can is really my little anthem when I feel like crap to raise my spirits. I say to myself "Well, Stevie and I are doing the best that we can and that's all we can do". Hee Hee
