Hi everyone,

For some very strange reason I decided to dig out my copy of Leagcy: A Tribute to Rumours this morning and give it a spin. Usually I would have stayed away from such an album but I bought it because so many of my favourite artists are on it. What are everyone's thoughts on this album? I think there are only 3 good songs on it:

The Cranberries version of Go Your Own Way is surprisingly good, but then they usually are!
The Corrs Dreams is a really decent cover and was rightly such a huge hit
Sister Hazell: Gold Dust Woman - this is the real gem on this record. It's wonderful! Atmospheric, slightly bluesy, brilliant.

The others suffer from varying degrees of suckage, especially Elton John's Don't Stop, Jewel's You Make Loving Fun, Matchbox 20's I Don't Wanna Know (a real disappointment because I love them) and, shudder...that HIDEOUS version of Songbird!

Thoughts anyone?

I love IDWK on the CD - I thought it was the Goo Goo Dolls though...oops. I found it on youtube and it might have been labeled as such. I don't own the CD.

I really hated this cd. (I'm not holding back, am I!) All the songs were performed with competence, but that was it. As if they might performed by some house band on a cruise liner.

I much prefer the Indie release, Fleetwood Mac: Patron Saints of Pop, which came out at the same time. There, each performance is played with energy and commitment. And the artists actually reconceive the songs to make them their own.

That's what I embraced about NGBA, I thought it was reconceived and brought out an interpretation that is actually there in the lyrics, but that Lindsey doesn't emphasize. Less tender irony, more twisted and numb. It's like they took the song and forgot about the origiinal and just presented it from scratch, going from the sheet music outside to the (guarded) emotional core.

Elton John's Don't Stop is by far my least favorite...I think I got 15 seconds into it and switched to the next track. I haven't played it again ever since....come to think of it, I dont think I played the entire cd very much after it... I will have to dig it out to put GYOW and Dreams on my iTunes...those are the only two that stand out for me...

I like GDW by Sister Hazel. I liked how they added the little bit of Rhiannon near the end.

See thats why you didn't like it - he didn't start singing until after 30 seconds

Actually the Elton song is fine until the ending then it just gets very bad...

Personally the whole album hasn't had a listen by me since pretty much the day I bought it. Patron Saints of Pop has suffered a similar fate, except that I like some of the people on the Legacy album.

GYOW and Dreams are decent. Don't Stop is maybe the worst Elton John's mistake. I love Elton but I don't know what he was thinking

The other songs probably are that "good" that I don't even remember them. I never heard that cd again.

I so agree with that. Legacy was so... record company we need a sellable album so let's put together a bunch of well known people to do very mainstream versions of these songs. The thing about FM is that even though they had huge hits they were always pushing the envelope. And Legacy took all that heart and soul out of it. The Patron Saints album was all about that wild untamed energy that made Tusk. I loved it.

I don't know this Patron Saints album at all! This is the first I'd heard of it and I'm excited about it - where can I get a copy? Or can anyone upload the tracks to here? Thanks for the info!

It is still available commercially, although personally I wouldn't spend the $42 that sellers are asking for it on Amazon. I'm sure there are cheaper copies to be found.

The Gourds' IKINW is simply worth the purchase. I agree, that indie-coveralbum is ten times better.

The Gourds played Lindsey's I Know I'm Not wrong recently live:
