[I know she mentioned Joe in the recent round of interviews and said he was the love of her life, but I didn't remember this full quote, so hope it's not a repeat]

Former rock couple STEVIE NICKS and JOE WALSH were so hooked on drugs during their romance, they feared they'd die if they didn't split.
The Fleetwood MAC singer dated Eagles star Walsh during the 1980s and describes him as "the great, great love of my life".
But they both began taking cocaine in vast quantities and Nicks blames the drug for ruining their relationship.
She tells People magazine, "There was nothing more important than Joe Walsh - not my music, not my songs, not anything.
"We had to break up or we thought we'd die. It took me years to get over it. It's very sad by at least we survived."
"There was nothing more important than Joe Walsh - not my music, not my songs, not anything.
Yikes. That doesn't really sound like a healthy relationship. You know, aside from her mentioning they thought they were going to die from drugs...
Joe Walsh? Love is what it is, but he's always kind of repulsed me. The again, there's not one member of the Eagles I could ever find myself attracted to even at their physical peak. Like Joe's music but, eh...:o

Never underestimate the power of an inscription on a water fountain coupled with a vial of cocaine. I mean, haven't we all been there?

From a man's point of view (and what good is that) I would have thought perhaps Randy would have been the better looking? Maybe we need a poll

Never got what Stevie saw in Joe Walsh, but then, I never got what she saw in any of the other guys, either. Seems to be that she always fell in love with these guys, as opposed to just lust.

I remember reading this Michele and have a few interviews where Stevie speaks about Joe Walsh, calling him the most important love in her life. There's a bit of pragmatism in Stevie's relationships, in addition to love. She is attracted to guitar players, which is certainly practical. Joe cleaned up pretty good back in the days before excess:

Yeah, I've seen her do that too. And I've seen her talk about the love of her life, without mentioning his name, but this comment just came out.
From the different Contact Music excerpts, I think there's a recent People magazine interview that we haven't seen published in its entirety yet.

Lust is for mere mortals.
UK BBC Radio 2 Dj Stuart Maconie, talked about Stevie and Joe tonight on the "radcliffe and maconie" show.
They introduce stories from the world of music in a jokey often mocking fashion on every show. The Stevie and Joe story was introduced in the usual mocking fashion, (including the usual "special roadie" gag) but then seemed to take the story seriously.
Dont know if anybody else in th UK heard this.

ugh, I have to agree with what everyone said about Joe Walsh. Besides looks, etc, I just think the guy was a total jerk to her. You hear the whole "road f**k" comment and then how he actually ended things with her....by ruining her recording session and then basically running away to Australia the next night to end things and you wonder why she built the guy up so much in her head. My take on things? I feel like this was a relationship where, for once, she wasn't completely in the driver's seat. She was vulnerable and HE basically wore the pants and ended things. Based on past experiences, for me, those are the hardest ones to get over. It's because you lost that control. She esentially seems to have selective memory of this relationship. It's a shame, really. It's been so many years and she is really holding this guy in a might higher regard than he deserves...especially when you look at all the men who must have truly loved her.

It's absolutely true that personality means a great deal. I'd say, in the long run, it's probably one of the most important qualities. And inner beauty trumps outer beauty always. However, that being said...was Joe Walsh really that great of a person? I mean, from what I have read and even what people have told me re: his attitude to Stevie...he wasn't exactly respectful towards her, and even when commenting retrospectively made her sound like a one night stand.
THAT isn't quite something I should be praising. Whereas Lindsey...much as people may say he runs along the darker sides, and much as I may agree, I know he truly loved Stevie and anyone can see that. He puts a great deal of passion into almost everything he has written about her, and even in the way he looks at her...so in that way I can see that she just wasn't some booty call. There was a really deep love and true feelings there. And it seems to have continued. I am not a shipper, but even I can see that. They have a deep connection.
And whereas I am sure Stevie was madly in love with Joe Walsh, part of me feels she proudly states this as a means of securing herself, that she doesn't have to say it's Lindsey because it would appear as though she was more desperate because she's saying stuff like that he has the family. She seems like a very respectful person. But I could be totally wrong. It doesn't matter. I don't know them personally and never will. And frankly, I never even think about it...it's just that I feel she has a purpose behind making sure everyone knows Joe Walsh was the love of her life. But he could very well be. And that's totally cool... he does have some killer songs, though. Really. :)

He had a family in 2003 when she said this about Lindsey: “He is my love. My first love and my love for all time." (emphasized to show how that could be perceived as disrespectful to one's family).
It's sort of funny to me that she can make real possessive statements in the press about Lindsey at times and then turn around and make a comment (or her publicist gets something printed) about Joe Walsh being the great love of her life - just meaning that the quote in this instance could have been a recycled quote - not claiming she didn't say it.
Joe Walsh, by the way is a relative newlywed, so it could be deemed a bit disrepectful of her to keep thowing him out there as the "love of her life". Not that I think her ex's wives must bother her much...because then again, she also bluntly stated, regarding Lindsey, that "It doesn’t matter that he’s married with kids...When we’re 90, whoever goes first, the other one will be sitting on a bed alone." (2009)
Ha. Gotta love her!

I heard an interview with Stevie from years and years ago with the quote that Joe Walsh was the "great love of her life," or whatever she said earlier. And then she proceeded to talk about their relationship (mind you, I had NO CLUE who this man was, or what he looked like or anything)...and all I thought was, "jerk." Aside from the water fountain story, there was not one thing that was remotely charming or caring about her tales of great romance re: Joe.
Anyway, it could be a recycled comment. Or she's in a Joe-phase.
Why? I have no clue. Especially if his public comments are true.
I think, for a good number of women--if good things were said by Lady X about Man Y, and Man Y turned around and said sleazy and/or uncomplimentary booty-call type remarks about Lady X, the next public statement Man Y would be hearing from Lady X's mouth would be how miniscule a certain body part of his was.
Obviously, Stevie is far more evolved:]

Jesus. Glen Frey had a liver transplant from all the partying he did. You would think that would be a big wake up call for Walsh. But that's the addictive personality for you.
I remember wathcing some show on MTV last year, Rock the Cradle or something like that where famous music stars kids competed. His daughter was on and the feeling I got was that they didn't have the greatest relationship. He did show up for her at one of the shows.
If he still is doing coke I wouldn't be surprised if one day on the news we hear that his heart just stopped. People doing coke in their sixties is just Ike Turner stupid.

I read Don Felder's autobiography; he and Walsh were very close, their daughters were best friends, etc. and Don even drove Walsh to rehab on one occasion. Well when Glenn Frey & Don Henley fired Felder, Walsh stopped speaking to him. Of course this was all Felder's side of the story but it does sound like the kind of asshole thing that Walsh would do given the way he trashed Stevie on the Howard Stern show.
FWIW, back in the 70's and 80's, the Eagles hired a bodyguard for Joe Walsh while they were on tour. Big deal right? All rock stars have bodyguards. Well this bodyguard's primary job was to protect Joe from himself--i.e. keep him as sober as possible so he could show up for their concerts. That's how bad of a drunk/cokehead he was.

Regina

Well, I don't think it demeans her, but it is a little sad.
There are men she's been involved with who, even if their relationships ended badly, still make it pretty clear that she is someone they loved very much and had a real tough time getting over. And some who claim an undying love for her, in some form.
And, even if she feels she has the inner scoop on what Joe Walsh really thinks/feels--what he has apparently said publicly hasn't backed that up.
I think she goes with her gut and her emotion, but it's tough to think she spent some of that one someone who didn't view her in the same light, or isn't man enough to own up to deep emotions he felt years ago, even if he doesn't feel that way now.

Does anyone know the timeline of Stevie's relationship with Joe? Because it would make a lot of sense if it was from 83-85. She didn't do anything in 1984 and Rock a Little came out in LATE 1985, December we can even round that to 86 really. So from 75-83 she was going nonstop with either an album or a tour. I don't Rock A little was such a masterpiece that it took 2 years to record. So her who "Nothing mattered more then Joe" quote wold make a lot of sense if it was that 2 year period .

Hawkeye, your timeline is about right...Joe Walsh and Stevie toured together during Wild Heart and her story of Wild Heart being all about romances and falling in love at first sight from across a room is usually attributed to her first meeting with Joe...I'm pretty sure it had ended before and by the time Stevie checked herself into Betty Ford after the RAL tour...(which btw, the press had a field day reviewing those concerts!!)

I have often heard it said that at the heart of many addictions is co-dependency. This fits her in my estimation, especially when she was actively using drugs to escape reality. I do recall somewhwere on TOSOTM Tour she made a dedication before performing HAEWAFY. Something like: "This is a song about a very scary man in the very scary world of rock-n-roll," or something along those lines. And we all know the song is about Joe.
I think there was another OSOTM show where she dedicated HAEWAFY to the audience saying something along the lines of, 'I wrote this for someone a long time ago but he doesn't matter anymore, so it's for you now.' Something like that.

Actually the album was set to be released in July of 1984 but was pulled at the 11th hour..Much of that album was said to have Joe Walsh playing on it.A remnant was the b side to Talk to Me ,One More Big Time Rock and Roll Star.

I would love to know what other songs they recorded. I didn't much buy into the Mirror Mirror lp theory but the more I hear her talk about JW lately the more I am inclined to believe it.

Thought Stevie said he couldn't go out with her on Halloween because he was working on his computer and she thought she was being replaced by a computer and that was the end of it?
Well, just because you blow someone up in your mind as the great love of your life, that doesn't mean the other person feels the same. Never a mention of these great loves proposing.
Wasn't there a phone interview with Sheryl Crow and Stevie was teasing that there was a person in the music business who was the love of her life and she would have married him? I think we were all guessing other people. Must have been Joe, although it all seems to depend on the time.

Yes, I heard the whole thing. Joe was dogging Stevie on how fat she is.
Howard the F - - k Sterns egg it on a bit. Howard shouldn't talk, he so
fugly....He wanted to know how Stevie was in bed when she was skinny....
Both slim balls.............
Something to that effect. It wasn't nice.
