That's so awesome! Thank you for that. I went to see Bat For Lashes on Friday and she had fibre optic angels on stage and came out wearing white satin. I did think to myself she has to be a Stevie fan.

I've loved Bat for Lashes for a while. Great to know Natasha not only makes good music but she has good taste too. Her performances seem influenced a bit by Stevie and there are definately some similarities between her music and Kate's.

Bat for lashes is so great! she REALLY stands out against all the current music (crap), they played her song "Daniel" on the radio I was listening the other day and I just thought wow; thats the first time I'd heard of her.

A lot of critics compare Bat for lashes' mysterious lyrics with Stevie's as well!
She does remind me of kate bush probably more so, and her voice reminded me a little
of Sinnead o'Conner.

I'm very familiar with the music of Kate Bush.

I'm very familiar with the music of Kate Bush.

I think she's a fantastic artist! I love the arrangements of her songs, her sound is unlike anyone else's -probably because she draws on inspiration outside of pop music. The ideas in a lot of her songs are interesting too. Not crazy on the Lindsey Kemp dancing though, thankfully she stopped that sometime in the mid 80s.

I realise that eulogy of Kate Bush was totally uncalled for. I couldn't help myself.

Apart from the song name I don't get think there's any connection either.
To tell the truth, having listened to Bat For Lashes since Fur And Gold came out in 2006, I don't hear any Stevie influence in the actual music. It's more a style and lyrical thing, that whole fantasy world escapism. I hear more Kate Bush and Polly Harvey in Natasha Kahn's music than Stevie.
I think there's more of a musical Stevie influence in the Ladyhawke album, and Pip Brown aka Ladyhawke, is a self-confessed Stevie/Mac fan. You can definitely hear 80s-era Stevie and Mac on her debut album without a doubt and even the new video from her has an 80s Stevie look:

I love the album version of Sarah better then the live version she was doing in 2007. Luckily she is doing the album version for her two suns tour :xoxo:

She reminds me more of Kate Bush and Bjork then Stevie Nicks to be honest. Maybe in the lyrics she is Stevie - like, but everything else screams "Kate"

Listen to Daniel, very Kate Bush :P

Two Suns review in the May issue of Paste:

With guest spots from Scott Walker and Yeasayer, Bat for Lashes' sophomore effort lands with simple poise. While Two Suns largely discards Fur and God's more baroque elements in favor if ethereal synthesizer work, BFL continues to benefit from a deeper sense of history. Natasha Khan's ties to the English folk tradition are palpable - if you stumbled on "Sleep Alone" out of context, you might mistake it for a subtle remix of some unreleased Sandy Denny gem. There's a creeping pop sensibility here - "Daniel" sounds like a breathier take on Stevie Nicks' most elegant compositions, and "Pearl's Dream" brings a Kate Bush drama to the dancefloor.

Crazy. Daniel doesn't sound anything like Stevie.

I love this pic - wow- Stevie-ish, much?

http://bandweblogs.com/blog/2009/04/27/bat-for-lashes-two-suns-album-review-watch-daniel-video/

Natasha Khan (aka Bat For Lashes) has done it again on her second album ‘Two Suns’. Her evocative, breathy style continues to beguile audiences as the mystical, enchanted landscapes of her psyche traversed in ‘Fur and Gold’ move into the metaphysical ‘emerald cities’ and constellations of heartbreak and recovery of ‘Two Suns’. Journeying is a more than apposite metaphor to describe listening to this album – the penultimate track is even entitled “Travelling Woman”.

Opening with faintly murmured lines from the Song of Solomon, itself a Biblical allegory of the relationship between the individual and God as husband and wife, we know instantly that this will be a spiritual and emotional journey. The tribal beats and cries which recall Kate Bush’s “Running up that Hill” on “Glass” set our adrenaline going for an album which documents Natasha Khan’s response to a disintegrating relationship.

Her lyrics have an innate sense of the poetic; recent single “Daniel” describes the ‘cinders and rain’ of a relationship before a ‘sheet of rain’ falls down upon her heart, set to a haunting sound-scape which echoes Fleetwood Mac at their best.

Other tracks linger on planetary orbs of light and dark and an alter-ego called Pearl, showcasing a sustained interest in duality throughout Khan’s writing, whether it be the duality of the self; the relationship between lovers or the doubling within nature. The themes of duality are apparent on the exquisite album artwork: the beautiful front cover is surely influenced by Frida Kahlo’s work and is already my tip for best album sleeve of 2009.

Such beauty and attention to detail saturates Khan’s otherworldly yet accessible musical style, which knits together pop (“Daniel”), dance (“Pearl’s Dream” has a real Donna Summer vibe), spoken word (“Good Love”) and the avant-garde in wonderful symbiosis.

Her new band (which includes former Ash member Charlotte Hatherley) have built upon the experimental folk of ‘Fur and Gold’ to create a more electronic, physical sound which moulds itself around Khan’s misty, hypnotic vocals. She sounds like a mystical forest nymph yet expresses such longing and insecurity, we aren’t daunted by her ethereal presence; we empathise with her intricate poetic yearnings and reach the end of the album sharing her feeling of acceptance. Khan has the unique ability to hold our attention whilst weaving our emotional experiences into her song and is a natural star; the fact that she does so without compromising her vision merely increases her allure.
