Ok, so I'm just curious...when adding The Soundstage Sessions to ya'll's ipods...who types in "If Anyone Falls" versus "If Anyone Falls In Love?" Me, I'm old school...so I put it as "If Anyone Falls"

Well I'm probably one of the 'few' that has no ipod yet....but I'd put it as If Anyone Falls as well....I don't know why she added the 'in love' that wasn't the original single name back in '83 but oh well.....its all good I guess....

I always say If Anyone Falls. However, Stevie was calling it If Anyone Falls in Love all the way back when they did it in 1983 on tour. So it's not a new thing.

So today, she says,
Well, I've changed my mind.
That's a woman's right, they say.
.....If Anyone Falls In Love....

I am really liking the Soundstage cd a lot. Driving, especially, with it cranked loud, it rocks! I love 'If Anyone Falls In Love' on this, I think it is such an improvement over the '83 version. Overall, what I love about this cd is the recording 'sound' of it- It's studio, but Stevie is singing freer and more like at a live concert, and it just really works for me. "How Still My Love" is another track that I think she has vastly improved upon from the original '81 recording. Also, somehow, the 10 songs just seem the perfect amount- I'd always take 'more' but i think it's the age of technology, or something, that somehow 14 songs would require too much time and attention! Maybe my attention is more than I can do??
Anyway, not that many Ledge fans would be 'on the fence' about whether to buy Soundstage, but overall, I think this cd has some of Stevie's best singing ever, and the flow of the songs is really good and it belongs in everyone's collection. Various Target and Walmart's here in Connecticut are barely stocking it, that kind of sucks. A WALL of the new Prince cd at Target (several hundred copies)- I know it's a Target exclusive- but they had ONE 'Soundstage' cd and no copies of the dvd. Too bad. If it's scarce in stores, sales won't be what they could be.
Also love the dvd, of course. But the cd on it's own is quite masterfully conceived. Hate to say it, but i prefer it to TISL!

Yes, yes, yes...i completely agree with you! The Soundstage CD is a work of art. Every song is beautifully done, and i'm so glad to have it! I know what you mean about the 10 songs being the perfect amount. The running time is 54:25, so it's almost an hour of music. Even Stand Back sounds outstanding, and that's usually a track i skip over. All of her hard work really did pay off for both of these releases.

Actually you don't have to type anything, the titles come up on their own when you add stuff to an iPod. Having said that, to me the song is, was, and always will be "If Anyone Falls", just like it's always "How Still My Love" not "In The Still Of The Night" (that's a song by the Five Satins from the 50's) and it's "Storms" not "I Have Always Been A Storm".

I definately agree with you about Stevie's singing, and the general sound of the cd...I, too, find "How Still..." to be an improvement...not sure about If Anyone Falls ... I mean I love it, but I also loved the original, so i don't know if I would go so far as to say it's an improvement other than another great version... However, I would be able to keep paying attention thru 14 songs with NO problem!

I always edit the information when inputing my stuff (I don't use the auto import function) so although you don't have to type anything, you can, that's what I meant to say there ... I have to say when i first made the post I was going to mention the other two titles you did, as well, and I do the same thing...the titles are what the titles were...the only exceptions are when the demos have different titles from the released version...then I will adjust my thinking (ie: Nomad/Candlebright, No Light/Planets Of The Universe etc...)

I am so glad to read this, I am old school as well, and the vynil when this song came out, was If Anyone Falls, the video title, and single go by this. Also, note in her banter about 3 songs a yr. not being enough, what has happened since Shangri-La!!!

The thing about "If Anyone Falls" is that when it was recorded the sound at the time was all drum machines and synths, and with this new version they keep the elements that make the song what it is, but they use live drums and really downplay the synths, augmenting the song with more live instruments. I think this is why it shines so much more by today's standards, and why Stand Back sounds so amazing now. I really wish she would do Nightbird now. I love that song but the tinny sounding synth on it detracts from the pure emotion of it. Someone had done an amazing keyboard instrumental of it on YouTube a while back and when I listen to the album track I always imagine what it would sound like with mostly piano and some strings, with live drums.

I have often thought this as well, soo manny of her songs hold up musically, but just seem outdated due to WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAy too much synth. I like it when im feeling in an old school mood, but i like it to sound fresher also. I REALLY would have loved a more studiolive recent version of Outside the rain.

Also, in relation to the titles of songs, When i brought the dvd over to a friends house, cause theyd ask to see some of my favorites to see "Just what all this about this Stevie Nicks person was All About" lol, they were reading the tracklisting and looked VERY worried:shocked: I asked "what?" and they said, Well, Stand back, Circle dance, if anyone FALLS Crash into me Fall from grace, "Was anyone injured in the making of this dvd?" , and "How much spinning does she actually do?!":lol:

I always say If Anyone Falls and, like someone else has already mentioned, I say Storms rather than I Have Always Been A Storm.

I do get what you are saying here...I feel that way about alot of stuff by other artists...but for some reason, Stevie's (and FM) songs, to me, never sound dated ... Maybe because I've been listening pretty much non stop since 1979 haha!:rolleyes: That's not to say that I haven't taken an occasional break, or don't listen to anything else, but never for too long ... And as for Nightbird...while I would LOVE to see it live, or have a new version...the original is pretty much perfection to my ears...that's not to say, however, that I am not THRILLED with the new cd...I do love the more 'rocking' aspects of IAF on this cd...and you are right...Stand Back kicks butt!!! Truly, Stevie's voice on this recording is amazing...and I was watching the DVD finally yesterday and just loving it so freakin' much!
