Anybody else find it so amusing that in a couple of interviews, and on the Today Show, she refers to Kristen as "the" wife, not his wife, or by her name.

No one says the womans name. Stevie doesn't. Lindsey doesn't.
Hmm........;)

I just think that saying "his wife" would make it not quite so dismissive. But I'm parsing words here, I guess. It's the editor coming out in me ;)

Well, Kristen has her own interior design company. She might want people to know her name.
I'm just alarmed about the repeated descriptions of the "girl land" Lindsey and Will are living in now. When we got rid of Christine, I thought that would be the end of the testosterone shortage! But noooooooo . . .

He lives in girlie world with the wife and the four year old girl and the eight year old girl.
I'm just relieved she didn't say, "the 39 year old wife, the four year old girl and the eight year old girl."
'Cause that wouldn't have gone over well. Michele

She just should have said: "His child bride...I mean, his children and his lovely bride."

Lindsey seems the kind of guy who would refer to Kristen as "the wife" while in conversation with familiars- so, with all the time that Lindsey & Stevie have spent together in the last few months, Stevie could just be parroting Lindsey ;)

I think it's funny that she said she and Lindsey had separate limos and separate hotels? Is separate hotels really necessary? I mean, in a big city like NY, ok. You like the Plaza. He likes the Waldorf. You stay in different places. But at most of these tour stops, why would they stay in separate hotels. What are they afraid of?
Do they think they'd run into each other at the ice machine and be overcome by torrid desire right there in the corridor?

Maybe it helps remove the temptation to "sit outside his door and wait." ;)

we know Stevie is still there, is Lindsey in NYC too?
do they ALWAYS go in sep hotels? i thought sometimes they were all at the same one
she seems to have to emphasize they are in sep hotels, no?
sep floors is clearly not enough to keep them apart
they have to be on sep streets
the planetary pull and the forces of the universe must be so massive
a trip to the ice machine would definitely result in torrid and inapproriate behavior

You guys haven't heard Stevie's song "Ice Machine"?
Here's some of the lyrics....
Step right up to the Ice Machine
You may get lucky with your dream
Let the ice fall down, down and down
You may find that girl who gets around
We're just a bunch of old rock'n rollers
with one thing on our minds
Taking a chance at the ice machine
maybe love we'll find
So step right up, who's next in line?
At the ice machine we'll waist no time
Let the ice fall down, down and down
You may find that girl who gets around

I can just see Stevie now, standing in the doorway with the come hither tongs in her hand and that sexy little plastic bag you use to line the plastic bucket, beckoning to Lindsey: "Come on over, let me put you on . . . ice."

Interesting. So, when a man says, or someone uses the descriptive, "the wife" as opposed to "my wife" one would say there is some meaning behind it; maybe on a subconscious level or is it full on dis?

I don't know--maybe it's me, but I think it comes across as dismissive. It just struck me that way about the third or fourth time I heard her use it, :laugh:especially the last time when she referred to "the" wife and "his" 4-year-old girl and 8-year-old girl. I just wondered if other people think the same thing. Am I parsing too much?

To get dime-store Freudian: That sort of removal ("the" vs. "his" or Kristen) could be a way of pushing something painful away. Kristen fills the role of "the wife" while Stevie will always be "the love of his life."
That's one way of reading it.
Another way is to think that she's emphasizing the quaintness of it all -- "back to the wife and kids" -- as a kind of cliche of language.
And what's with all the ;)'ing going on here!?

I totally agree. When one uses "the wife", I believe it is a ball-n chain situation, most definitely!

I'm not hearing "the wife." Maybe I'm deaf as a doornail. I've heard "he has a wife & kids now." I've heard Kristen referred to as "his wife" too. But like I said, I may be mishearing.
If I am, I personally wouldn't read into it to much. Who cares?

I have heard 'the wife' before in my lifetime and that is what I have thought too...so clinical as opposed to MY wife...I think it is telling on some level. How 'the wife' applies to Lindsey/Stevie  but I did find TF77 comments interesting...more ;)'s

^ Wow, a whole 17 of us, huh? Maybe we should tell Star Magazine about this scandal.
Seriously, Niki, you know what I mean. None of this means that Stevie hates Kristen, it doesn't mean that Stevie is jealous of Kristen, it doesn't mean that LB told Stevie Kristen holds him back & that Stevie's his true love. :p It probably means nothing - it could mean all of those things I suppose, but I'm not buying it. But it's obviously fodder for the shipper crowd, so have fun with it.
BTW - I don't necessarily think it's derogatory or dismissinve either. If she was introducing LB & Kristen to you, for example, and said "this is Lindsey, and this is the wife" then yeah, I would say it's rude. To say "now he's changed, his life has changed, he has the wife, the kids..." is not the same thing.
