Stevie Nicks: This Is What 60 Looks Like Now
No computer, no cell phone, no facelift. ‘I am old-school all the way. School of rock.’
By Deborah Barrow, Editor-in-Chief
WowOWow (http://www.wowowow.com/entertainment/stevie-nicks-what-60-looks-now-254692)

Stevie Nicks is a very busy woman.

Some 40 years into one of the most remarkable careers in music, she is touring the country with her famous supergroup, Fleetwood Mac, which still fills large venues with rapturous baby-boomer fans; she is releasing a new solo CD, "The Soundstage Sessions," as well as a new solo concert DVD, "Live in Chicago."

And that’s just March and April. So what’s with this sudden flurry of activity?

"It wasn’t meant to all be together," Nicks told wowOwow in an interview squeezed in during a short break in the concert tour. "Live in Chicago" was supposed to release last October, but with the Election, it was moved to this two-week period while the tour is on vacation."

What’s it like to be a rock goddess at the tender age of 60? "I would be lying to you if I told you it was easy. Our show is very hard and very long: two hours and ten minutes. Spinning around in seven-inch heels, it’s long. You have to be in really good shape. You have to take care of yourself."

In her new DVD, Stevie Nicks takes to the stage like the gypsy that she was: blonde hair to the waist. Morgane Le Fay wedding dress under a black jacket. Top hat. Feather. Ubiquitous scarves. As The Washington Post said about the Fleetwood Mac concert, "Nicks showed she still knows how to really work a shawl."

"I’ve never had a facelift and I never will. I stopped laying in the sun at 28. I never go to bed with makeup on. I have creams and lotions and I take 20 minutes of rubbing it in my skin … like a little biochemist." Nicks tells her many female friends now in their 30s, "If you think you’re not going to care how you look when you’re 60, I’m here to tell you: You are going to care more. When you’re young and thin and cute, beauty, it’s your world. You will be sorry, later on, if you don’t take better care."

When asked about her online life, she skips barely a beat: "I don’t have a computer or a cell phone. I am old-school all the way. I am school of rock."

"In 1983 when I was going out with the love of my life, Joe Walsh (legendary rock god of James Gang and Eagles fame), he had built a room in a loft filled with pianos." According to Nicks, the first time she heard a tune she had just picked out on an electronic keyboard instantly played back by Walsh with full orchestration, she realized, "Everyone, even the violinists had been replaced."

Later that year, Walsh told Nicks he couldn’t be with her on her favorite holiday, Halloween, because he had to work on his computer.

"That means I have also been replaced. If computers are going to replace me in a man’s life and replace those violinists …"

That was the end of Nicks’s relationship with computers.

So no Facebook, no tweeting, no MySpacing for Nicks. She does have an official website, a good one — The Nicks Fix — which she infrequently posts to, but is kept up-to-date by her webmasters. (Great pictures, by the way.)

When asked who she wants to come back as in her next life, she says she wants to return as her Yorkie/Chinese Crested mix. "She only wears Ralph Lauren. She always wears Ralph Lauren. She travels like a rock star."

Stevie Nicks: How I Look Fabulous at 60
By K.C. Baker

People Magazine (http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20269012,00.html)

Stevie Nicks is 60 but she still feels like she's on the "edge of 17," thanks to super-efficient Power Plate workouts that have whipped her into incredible shape.

"When I gained my 30 lbs., it was because I went on tranquilizers for eight years," Nicks told PEOPLE Monday, the day before her new CD, The Soundstage Sessions, and Live in Chicago DVD hit stores. "I don't blame myself for that."

The secret to staying slim is finding a healthy weight you can maintain, says the "Rhiannon" chanteuse, who is now a sleek size 8 and is touring with Fleetwood Mac for the first time in five years. "You don't have to weigh 105 lbs. Weigh 125 lbs. and stay there."

The singer adds that had she not been on tranquilizers in the '80s, "I would have stayed at 125 pounds from 1985 and [later on] probably would have weighed about 130 pounds. That would have been way better than fighting to get back to 130 lbs. from 175 lbs."

Short, efficient workouts on the Power Plate every other day have helped her keep the weight off. "I do it every other day for 13 minutes," says Nicks of the Power Plate, a machine with a vibrating platform that revs up workouts by forcing users to contract and release their muscles up to 50 times per second to maintain balance. "You can't get results faster than that."

Her other secret to looking so young? "I take good care of my skin," she says. "I never go to bed in makeup. I haven't laid out in the sun since I was 28. While everyone else is out there burning up, I'm walking around going, 'When I do look 60, you will all look 100. Enjoy it now because you aren't going to be happy when I look young enough to get a date and you don't.' I'll still be going out when I'm 75. Everybody else will be in the rest home!"

i know she mentioned trying botox once & thought it horrific~ i believe her when she says she hasn't had a facelift~ she has aged very well~ she has some slight sagging around her jawline & i would think if she had had a facelift, this would be one of the places that would be tightened~

I do believe that she has not had a face lift. If you see her up close, you can tell - the jawline/neck area.

I do not believe it at all that she is a size 8 and weighs 130 pounds.

I don't know what a Power Plate is, but thirteen minutes every other day? Sounds like a gimmick.

I am 5'7" and I'm at 140 right now- barely making it into an 8. At her height, even if she really was 130, an 8 would be rough.

The size you wear really does depend on the way you're built. In reading the article, I don't see where she is saying she is at 130 now.

I remember when I weighed 135 lbs. I would love to look that good again. I am still trying. I do remember Stevie saying that she doesn't eat anything with a lot of carbs in it. That also helps alot too. But it won't work for me....I love bread too much.:blob1::blob2:

I really do want to get a power plate too! But I bet it depends on your workout more than the plate itself. I probably couldn't keep up with whatever Stevie's workout on the plate is.

I love carbs too. It's very sad, actually. I ONLY want starch.

I do not believe it at all that she is a size 8 and weighs 130 pounds.

Is that estimate smaller or bigger to you? I saw Stevie in person, but that was a few years ago and she looked a little larger. From what I can see, she's lost some weight but I don't think drastically. However, I can believe she's 130 if she's very short. She's not a large woman, but she isn't thin either. Very medium, and it works well.

Lindsey, on the other hand, looks positively like a line in person. It's kind of ridiculous how little he is.

I'm really interested in how this power plate device works. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE working out. It's probably one of the things that bring me most satisfaction, but I'm more into running/jogging, the eliptical, swimming, biking, and hiking. And I usually do these things for hour-long intervals. Never in my life have I done something for only 13 minutes. It sounds fascinating, but I would probably feel deprived. I'm going to research this thing...

I'm with you on both these. She has puppet mouth. I think a face lift would have fixed that as some one else said. Since we're all telling our height and weight, I'm 5'4" and 125 lbs and a size 8, so I don't know how Stevie could be an 8? Although clothes sizing is so f*cked up, who knows

stevie is 5'1...she is considered petite, correct?

do we have guestimates on her bust, waist and hip size?

If she is wearing an 8P, these are the rough estimates: 35.5/28/37.5

Completely clothed with all that layering, I can't tell...naked...hmmm...I do know, when I saw her she was the smallest little bitty bit.

I do know there is a lot of imagery/media out there that seems to have ladies trumpeting about their size 0, 2, etc. While perhaps Stevie may have stretched the truth on the 8 (though I tend to find believable), I am proud of her.

NO facelift?? I doubt....

I 100% agree. At the very least, she's had an eye lift. Watch Lindsey's and Stevie's Soundstages back to back. The difference between her upper eyelids is monumental. But I suppose she doesn't count that as a facelift (which is technically true!).

Probably does. And hers probably has little crescent-moon appliqués all over it.

I think the machine looks really cool. But I just don't understand how someone can exercise on only one thing. Doesn't she get bored? I have to spice it up. If it's a gorgeous day, I'm going to go Rollerblade, and in the summer I'll swim...I would only use the treadmill/elliptical/power plate on the regular if it was cold outside.

But it's different when you're older, so really...good on her!

Ummm yeah, if I had an extra $10,000 I would own one too LOL

You can get a "personal" one that's cheaper (lowest seems to be 2k). But what they say about using gravity to increase the amount of fat you burn during the workout is the same thing they used to tell me about "bouncing" when I bought my trampoline, which was a LOT less expensive and probably no more and no less effective.

What she said about a tequila shot and the acid bubble made me laugh. I guess when your stomach changes over the years, you just cannot hang like you once did. We had been wondering about marijuana in other threads and I agree with the view that she wouldn't take something that would make her mellow just before a show. She wants something that gives her an adrenalin rush. If she used marijuana, it would probably be to calm down AFTER a performance.

My estimate is that she is larger than a size 8 and more than 130. I'm not saying she's fat. But she is not thin either. I've seen her up close a few times over the past month and, while her waist appears fairly thin, she's got some junk in the trunk (and hips). Not to mention that she is surely trussed up as hell underneath all those layers. Personally, I think all the layers make her look heavier.

And I agree, LB needs to pack on some pounds. Being so thin makes him look old.

I'm an 8 @ 5'5" and 135. Like Niki said, depends on your body I guess.

But no way in hell is mama an 8. :p

See, now I would guess that you are a 6. If you're an 8, there is no way Stevie is an 8. Even if you have four inches on her. She just doesn't look that svelte to me. Again, I think the layers do her a disservice.

Puppet mouth? And, I don't believe that you are a size 8. You look like a size 2. There is no way you wear a bigger size than I do. I'm 5'4'', maybe 5'3''. Not quite sure. I usually hover just below 130 (128-129) and I wear a 6. I have a few 8's, but mostly 6's. I know different designers vary their sizes quite a bit, but you are way smaller than I am.

ok let's break it down... hehe :p

stevie is 5'1...she is considered petite, correct?

You've seen her naked? Like I said above, her waist looks small but she looks thick through the hip/butt/thigh area to me. And when I made my original comment about not believing that she was 130 and a size 8, I kind of made the comparison based on myself. I have 2 or 3 inches on her but weigh approximately 130. I just think she looks heavier than I do.

I never said I wasn't proud of her. She looks great and I'm sure she worked really hard to lose the Klonopin weight. I just didn't think the dimensions were completely accurate. I don't blame her. If I were a rock star broadcasting my weight in an interview, I'd drop a few pounds and a size myself.

And, as a disclaimer, I'm not saying that a size 8, or larger, is fat. I don't want anyone to get all worked up. I'm just expressing my opinion based on my knowledge of what a size 8 looks like and what 130 pounds looks like.

Stevie is very clever in the way she deflects questions. When asked, she rephrases and narrows the question to one she WANTS to answer and then she answers it, without having to lie.

So, if you ask her if she's had injections in general, she says, "Do you mean botox? No, Botox is horrible."

If you ask her if she's had any work done in general, she says, "Do you mean a facelift. No, I've never had a facelift.

Have you ever murdered anyone? "Do you mean have I stabbed anyone? No, I've never used a knife to kill anyone," and she cleverly avoids having to mention all the people she's shot and drowned.

Stevie is very clever in the way she deflects questions. When asked, she rephrases and narrows the question to one she WANTS to answer and then she answers it, without having to lie. OMG bwaahha that is hysterically funny...you are.

Yep, me standing next to Lindsey when I met him, I immediately went on a diet:nod:

So, if you ask her if she's had injections in general, she says, "Do you mean botox? No, Botox is horrible."

If you ask her if she's had any work done in general, she says, "Do you mean a facelift. No, I've never had a facelift.

Have you ever murdered anyone? "Do you mean have I stabbed anyone? No, I've never used a knife to kill anyone," and she cleverly avoids having to mention all the people she's shot and drowned.

^As I said above, I don't blame her. I'd drop a size or two myself if asked during an interview. I'm just expressing my opinion that I don't believe it. But, I suppose Margi could sew in a tag saying whatever size Stevie wanted. In that case, I'd have her make all my stuff a size 2.

Okay, this made me giggle.

I think Stevie looks great and I think that if she were to try and get smaller, it would be a major struggle and eh, it's not worth it. The older one gets, being too thin begins to look yucky.

Maybe part of Karen's job description is to sew little "8" labels in all of Mama's clothing? :p

Seriously... I think she is an 8 petite up top... but probably more of a 10 or 12 below. Mama got gadunk-a-dunk.

Lovely article!

Wow, that's quite sad. Stevie is almost the same weight as me! (Give or take 15 pounds.....)

Oh, and IMO I think that Stevie would look better without al of the ruffles too. I think that she should get a new black dress, and keep the ruby one. :p And the gloves, and the Rhiannon sleeves, and her ankle boots, cuz those are just hot.

Well good designer stuff does run large. Most designers won't even make clothes over a certain size-say 10 or 12 but most designers make their clothes larger so their clients can run around saying, "Hey, I'm a size 0 or 2"... or an 8. I'd say she's probably a 10-12 in the real world, and that would be pretty consistent with a high-end designer "8", but it's hard to tell about her size with all that layering.

Stevie doesn't look like someone who had a facelift.

Believe it or not I know a 75 year old woman who followed the same regime for 50 years. She messages her face for an hour in the mornning and at night and I look ata her today and can see the effort paid off. She doesn't look over 48.

(Of course, I liked her singing that year too.)

She looks good on her Soundstage DVD. Why doesn't she do that with her hair on the FM tour? Too much trouble? She forgot? She was asked not to?

AND WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO ROMY?!

I agree that Stevie looks great, but just to put in my 2 cents, I am the same height and build as Stevie-- 5'1" with fuller hips-- and I weight about 125-130 and I can wear size 6-8. Granted, I'm 30, not 60, so things haven't started shifting yet. I'd bet she would look slimmer without all the ruffles and fabric ;)

I would like to get my hands on some of that face cream . . . I'm sure I can't even afford the box it comes in!

lol! I stood next to him, and I'm a pretty small/slender chic and he was only a little bigger- like broader shoulder/height-wise...but he's kind of built like a stick in every other way.

I was thinking that his wife would be abnormally tiny but she really wasn't. Slender, but not sickly and not extremely short. Actually, she looked about the same size as me.

I just wonder how GD tiny they all were back in the 70s. Stevie could probably be picked up and thrown by the "average" female these days.

I've always thought size was relative. I think it's extremely becoming when so many beautiful people can be a range of different sizes that would only make a difference (to someone like me) if you lined them all next to each other. But objectively, I've always thought women with more curves/softer features are more attractive. There's just a much more youthful, feminine quality to them. Which is why I think Stevie Nicks is more attractive NOW than many of her "peak" youth periods. I say this with a little envy because I'm more on the opposite in terms of "voluptuous" yet I think most guys probably dig women that have a little more to, uh, grab. ;)

When I do look 60, you will all look 100. Enjoy it now because you aren't going to be happy when I look young enough to get a date and you don't.' I'll still be going out when I'm 75. Everybody else will be in the rest home!"

(I originally posted this article yesterday but it somehow dissapeared.) Also I didn't know that anyone had computers in 1983-85 when Stevie was dating Joe Walsh.

For a sixty year old she looks good.

But she shouldn't pretend that she hasn't had work done. I agree that she may not have had what was known 20 years ago as a 'face lift'. But she has had surgery on her nose. She must have had botox on her face cos there are lines at 40 that aren't there at 60 and her hair has had some work. Ok she aint in the Elton John mould but she's had some added.

I don't get why she just doesn't just sit back and enjoy the compliments from her fans rather than giving an interview suggesting that since she was 28 she's avoided the sun and drank water. It's not true.

and her hair has had some work.

That's interesting. What do you think has been done with her hair? Other than the fact that it's obviously dyed, what other kind of remodeling has it undergone?

I think she's had extensions at times, like in Australia maybe, but I don't think she's wearing extensions now -- not from all the angles we see her head and scalp at in the Unleashed concert photos.

So, what kind of hair work do you think might have happened?

Oh, I think I'm going to pay for this...newbie here...but bitches please! The woman is 60 and been "dancin' across the stages of the world" for decades!!! She looks fantastic! J/k about the "bitches" part, but I only hope I look that good at 60. I think alot of the criticism is stemmed by Stevie's own insecurity. She makes alot of comments about her weight, and as someone who has been a size 0 to a 24 and back down to a 8/10, weight is an ever ending battle. You always look at yourself as a failure if you aren't that 0. You know that no matter how much you have lost, you never look like THAT. Even if you do loose it all, you have aged. Don't hate me, I'm just sassy:xoxo:

I think that as audience members, we can tell when Stevie is even the slightest bit limited in her performance due to her size. Age is obviously another big part of it. Although she isn't as versatile onstage as she used to be, she is healthy enough to put on a kickass show and that's all that really matters :).

So what do we think Stevie has had done to her face? It's really hard for me to look at a picture from the 70s and 80s and then look at her now and pick out what is different. Her nose does look different...though I'm not sure why she would have wanted to change that. I thought Stevie had a cute nose back in the day. I kind of think her nose just expanded with the weight gain and never went back to what it was before. Not to mention, she's always kind of had a big nose(but cute...don't get mad at me, I love Stevie, I'm just saying...)

And yes, I'm sure she's had extensions. But I don't think she has them now. But one thing that I might think she has had done is maybe....something with her neck/chin area. I've seen some pics where it looks like she was getting a little flabby neck and then all of a sudden, normal neck again. Her face doesn't look tight, but it doesn't look like skin of a 61 yr old. Y'know? So I wonder....but yeah, I'm lovin how she narrows the questions down to what she can say 'no" to, haha. gotta love Stevie...

daniellaaarisen
06-23-2009, 03:29 AM
I personally think that she's had nothing done to her nose-- unless she's had surgery to fix the damage that coke did to her nasal cavity. We know that she saw a plastic suregon pre-Betty Ford, but as far as I know, that was the end of that. Anyone have ideas as to what they think she did to her nose after this time?

I'm fairly sure she's had botox. In terms of her neck/chin and any other discrepancies from picture to picture in the past few years, I think we need to keep into account the severe difference makeup and lighting to make.
