The Allman Bros Band played their 40 Anniversary show at the Beacon Theatre in NYC last night...the EXACT DATE, 40 years to the day, March 26, 1969, of their first gig EVER.

What did they do? They came out and played their first album in its entirety, IN ORDER.

And, what did they do in the second set to follow that? Played their SECOND album Idlewild South in its entirety, IN ORDER.

The encore...the first song on their THIRD album Live At The Fillmore East

Unlike any of the previous 12 nights of this 40th Anniversary Tribute to Brother Duane 15 show "homestand" at the Beacon Theatre, there were no guests sitting in (i.e Eric Clapton on 03/19 & 3/20), no former members dropping by for one last blow (no Dickey Betts sightings)...just the 7 current members giving their all.

Some who were there have said it was the best Allman Bros Band show ever.

Set 1:

Don't Want You No More
It's Not My Cross To Bear
Black Hearted Woman
Trouble No More
Every Hungry Woman
Dreams I'll Never See
Whipping Post

Set 2:

Revival
Don't Keep Me Wonderin'
Midnight Rider
In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed
Hoochie Coochie Man
Please Call Home
Leave My Blues At Home

Encore:

Statesboro Blues

I'd like to see Fleetwood Mac do that...oh, wait...their 40th anniversary passed without the band even being active...so much for that! Shame on them!!!

What the ABB did was the equivalent of the current Fleetwood Mac playing Dog & Dustbin and Mr. Wonderful plus "Coming Your Way" from Then Play On in order. But, could you picture Buckingham & Nicks agreeing to do that? Me, neither

Well, Great for the ABB, ChiliD and it's an incredible good idea of them to do that exactly 40 years later.

But playing the first two Mac-albums and the first song from the third in this line-up would have been the silliest and embarrassing thing ever done. At least THIS FM sticked basicly to the first three albums they made with the frontpeople who were on stage.

My point exactly...their misguided egos won't let them see the band's legacy as a whole and only count their own contributions as being valid.

If Lindsey REALLY is this musical genius he's been labeled; and, Stevie is this vocal Goddess, as she's been annointed, they could've found a way to pull it off...dramatically and intensely; I'm not even saying they play the songs note-for-note from the records...the ABB didn't, the new lineup played their songs the way they play them NOW. If Lindsey can take a standard folk song like "All My Sorrows" and make it his own, he can do the same with those original Fleetwood Mac songs. All I asked for is one show...on August 13, 2007.

The moment passed & gone. Sadly, they did nothing.

Idelwild South was the 2nd album I ever bought. The first being LA Woman. I bought them with my saved up lunch money from the TG&Y store I passed twice a day on the way to and from school. Some of them songs give me chills to this day... like Dreams I'llNever See. Wish I could have been at that show. The Cure did some gigs in Berlin Germany like that.. they played three entire albums. The Aussie Pink Floyd show does all of Dark Side of the Moon. I am a big fan of this format for concerts.

The ABB rank right up there for me in terms of my favorite bands ever. I would haved loved to have been there for this show. Unbelievable they did this. Makes me love 'em even more.
