I'm starting this thread in appreciation of Stevie's "color other than black" outfit she's wearing on the Unleashed tour -

For all the grumbling I've read about Stevie's WMB (Wears Mostly Black) wardrobe on recent tours, the maroon frock hasn't gotten much publicity from her fan base...

whaswrong?

nobody like it?

I think it's a fabulous outfit. I love that the boots match. It's a rich color that looks wonderful against her skin and with her hair. The way the skirt is gathered reminds me of the cover of OSOTM. I really like it... it's a great switch from the layered apron skirts we've seen for years. She's been adding a few of those to her wardrobe. They photograph well and I think they make her look slimmer. Is it a velvet corset? There was another tour where she wore a red outfit... was that the Time iteration of the band or was it OSOTM tour?

Anyway... I'm interested to know if anyone else is loving that outfit as much as I am...

....and wishing she would put it up for charity auction so I can place the winning bid and get a second job to pay for it. :D

Yes she looks awesome. She had a kind of rennaissance with her wardrobe during her CV tour. I will never forget seeing her with that white frilly skirt thing and the top hat belting out rock n roll from the foot of the stage.

BTW I think her and Lindsey had some give and take issues on this tour. I believe that he agreed to let her be a bit more flamboyant with her clothes if she keeps the performance toned down.

Yes, seeing Stevie in this burgundy red dress is so refreshing. Kudos to Stevie for finally bringing out some color :nod:

Personally I think she's looking absolutely amazing and beautiful. ♥ The dress itself reminds of one of the ones she wore for Soundstage, but it was a black one then. ... I wish she would wear a corset with laces for once!

She looks fabulous. Honestly she should just wear this for the entire show.

I think it is awesome that she looks so hot at 60 years old. She, frankly, looks sexier here then she did six years ago during the SYW tour. And these are years when, I think, people tend to really start to show their age. It helps that she lost some weight and is wearing much more fabulous clothing. I really hope they tape this tour for a DVD or something.

Frankly, who cares what she sings up there when she looks so damn great this time around?

i love the pink duster shawl thing she brought out in on the 2nd leg of the SYW tour. she needs a pale pink [satin ] outfit
i think that would be hot

Maybe if we started accusing her of being a witch again en masse, perhaps she will be intimidated into ditching the black frocks again.

I adore the burgundy dress. I think she looks fabulous in it and is very refreshing. But I have to say I"m very disappointed in everything she"s wearing after she changes out of the burgundy. Its the same old black layered on top of more black. Heavy fabrics, not much glitter except for the the Silver Springs top and very few shawls. And I really hoped she"d wear something new for GDW. If she has to do that song over and over again, at least wear something new. Sorry for the negativity, I just think she could try a little bit harder in making her wardrobe choices more varied and interesting.

I have been thinking about this: I think she is trying to keep it as low key as possible. She seems like she is trying to paint a very serious mood. Maybe she is actually unleashing her demons and trying to discover if doing this is still something she wants to do.

As for the outifts... I dig the fingerless gloves for Storms. Initially, I thought she was wearing only one glove, lol. The maroon number? Awesome. LOL I noticed that her boots are the same color so girl went SHOPPING! LOL

Yes yes, the dress is a fabulous change from the black. (Hell, she'd wear a plastic sack and I'd think she looked phenomenal.) But aren't we missing the very important point here..

The boots.. the boots... THE BOOTS!

Look at them, look how pretty!!!!!!

I'd pay hundreds for those. They are just, to use a colloquial term, savagely unreal!

I agree that the maroon/burgundy color looks really lovely on her. The boots are fabulous, of course.

Sometimes I think that the heavy layering and frilly bottoms aren't as flattering as they could be, she looks beautiful and stunning and I'm happy for her.

BTW I think her and Lindsey had some give and take issues on this tour. I believe that he agreed to let her be a bit more flamboyant with her clothes if she keeps the performance toned down.

I know that according to Stevie, Lindsey has commented on her outfits but do we honestly still believe that he would allow her to wear somethng if she altered her performances to his liking?

I agree. I don't think Lindsey has any input at all regarding Stevie"s clothes. She wears what the hell she wants to wear. I agree, I"m not loving her skirt choices but if that"s what makes her happy, that"s all that matters!!

I find the idea not only antiquated, but absurd, especially this time around when he has wanted an FM studio album. I think he has been playing especially nice recently to win her over and get her to agree to it (and from recent interviews it sounds like she has agreed to do one). If anything maybe she "allowed" him to wear his get up. Or . . . maybe neither has dictated anything to the other.

But what about when they all gathered in a circle and tried to convince John to wear red too? And Stevie's telling Rolling Stone, "And John knows that he needs to wear a rose-colored kerchief, but you know none of us are going to go over there and nail him to the wall."

I m justgoing by what I have read here. How do you explain the granny sweater on SYW?

I thought it was confirmed that Lindsey has told her in the past to tone the wardrobe down?

I remember perched at my computer eagerly reading Skcin's and Zombie's play-by-play opening night concert report and I swear I heard gasps from around the world as the words "sparkly burgundy dress" were fully comprehended by readers. I admire Stevie's burgundy dress. I like the effect of the slimming velvet and the light-catching shimmery and ruffly skirt and crystals/sequins designed strategically, I think, to help her stand out on the stage from a distance, to reflect the light. Very theatrical, a modern operatic Victorian styling – her raggedy, filmy, Charles Dickensy-sometimes-silent film star wardrobe and stage persona has evolved and grown more sophisticated. The black silk chiffon still here because she likes it (as per her comments in interviews) and silk chiffon seems to complement Stevie's dramatic nature. The boots - is it my imagination or are they higher heels this tour? Fabulous. I'm getting close to her age and teeter on 2" heels – there's no way I could navigate safely across a stage in those boots! I'm a little nervous watching her try to prance around in those things – however she's had a few years of practice! Kudos to Stevie and her stylist and/or designer.

I LOOOOVVVEE that rennaissance thing with Stevie. That whole deal got me going to Renn Faires about 10 years ago. FAB. Sometimes I think it looks like she throws in a little Victorian flair too... If she and Linds did strike a deal, I'm happy.... clothes whorse and boot gal that I am.

The boots are pretty tall. She hasn't worn boots that tall in years... I'm thinking even before the Enchanted tour. I can't wear heels that tall unless I'm closer to my preferred weight. So she's either slimmed down quite a bit or has one of those foot bath massagers on the tour bus.

Thank God the Frankenbockers haven't made an appearance - yet.

Well I never thought I'd wear it
This here maroon dress...
I never thought I'd ever
Want to wear it..
What I seem to wear
Is always black...
What I seem to wear
Well you know I'll find a way
(to make it black)

For me...it's the only color
That I've ever known
And maroon is only one...
Fine star...away
Even though the black
Is sometimes laced with ties...
It's alright...
The feeling remains
Even after the dryer fades

The fadedness of my black frock
Is hard to take
We all chase something
And maybe it should be green
The timeless face of a rock and roll
Woman...while her black fades
Oh you know...the color keeps coming
Even when you forget to see
(something other than black)

For me...it's the only color...
That I've ever known
And blue is only one...fine star away
Even though the black
Is sometimes laced with ties...
It's alright...
The color remains...
Even after the dryer fades

For me...it's the only color
That I've ever known
And red is only one fine star away
Even though the black
Is sometimes laced with ties
It's alright...
The color remains
Even after the dryer fades
Oh you know...the color remains
Even after the dryer fades
Oh the color remains...
Even after the dryer...fades

Mick started sporting a red top hat for "Goodbye Baby" during the last leg of the SYW tour in '04. I went very well with Stevie's red shawl, which is now apparently, the new Stand Back shawl.
