Wooo. Solitary man. Thanks Niki.
I loooove Chris Isaak. I'd become a hardcore fan of his if I wasn't already preoccupied with other scoundrels. Michele

hey guys, if you go to the nicksfix they have a video of them singing Red River Valley and then they have a link to watch outtakes from the show. Stevie says something interesting stuff about Christine, not wanting to be an actress or backup singer and then says how she wants to take piano lessons but Waddy and Lindsey have told her not to. Interesting.

That does sound interesting. Lindsey is always saying that his friends who took lessons are worse musicians than they were before they took lessons.

I always thought she did but it would have been years ago. She must have had work done on her face as well. Nothing too radical though. Hopefully she never goes over the top like some do witht eh plastic surgery.
It has been up for debate here many times re the nose job/plastic surgery.
I doubt one could live the hard life like she did and still look as good as she does. Smoking esp takes its toll on ones face.

And Stevie did have a nose job... around the Tusk period I believe. She's absolutely had an eye lift in the last few years. Don't believe me? Watch Lindsey's and Stevie's Soundstages back to back. The difference is astonishing!

I don't think we have to worry about Mama having bad work done; the days of the snare-drum-tight facelifts is over. The newest procedures go deep into the musculature of the face rather than just the superficial skin layers. That's why Madonna (who had a "ribbon lift" very recently) and Demi Moore have looked fantastically youthful and natural. And I think that if you have minor adjustments over a long period of time, as opposed to a single, radical overhaul, it's that much better. Mama has definitely had work done, but it has been very, very subtle...
There is also a performance of It's Late with Chris Isaak and Stevie and about a 3 minute interview from the show with Stevie and Chris over on Perez Hilton.com. Steve talks about the first song she ever wrote (heard this story before many times)
So when did this Chris Isaak show start? I'm a little out of the loop..but I love him!

Did they show the covers of the DVD and CD?
kak125
03-05-2009, 10:33 PM
nope they didnt show the cover or anything yet. Stevie is talking about her coke years saying how nobody said coke was dangerous and how she never got into heroin. She is also talking about the huge hole in her nose and how it affects her today and then talked about going to betty ford. Oh no she is yapping about the klonopin days now, this could be a while.
kak125
03-05-2009, 10:39 PM
She is still talking about the klonopin and how she gained weight and stuff. She was also taking decrodon shots (sp?) and how she wasnt writing songs and then she called up her friend to take her to the hospital to detox. blah blah and then she said how proud she is of the dvd/cd and its the best thing she's done. She wanted this great rock concert on film for the wanna be rock stars that will come after her. People can watch the dvd to see what rock n roll is about.
Stand back is playing.

now she is talking about the walter reed hospital and how she tries to go every couple of months with ipods and how she puts the music on there. ha ha she said karen puts the music on the ipods, so there goes that question that people were asking. she goes to the hospital rooms and asks if she can sit with them and then talk about music and then she asks what happened to them cuz she was told to by the higher ups cuz they need to talk about it. they tell her the stories and they have horrific injuries and she spent 11 hours there on day and she went into icu and got to see people that are 3 days from the battlefield and they arent sure what happened. i thought i heard her say she must have been a doctor or a nurse in another life. its the only time she isnt in a rush and the higher ups could learn a lot from these kids. she said the children are brilliant and she would never tell anybody what they have said. chris isaak then talks more about the ipods and then they talk about how she pays for them and it shows heart and its an elvis like type of move. good ****!
now talking about red river valley and something about AJ Nicks. I kinda missed that part. Playing Red River valley now.
funny thing from before when she said she writes on a typewriter and her journal and how she has no computer and no cell phome. chris then says about how he sent her an email and she was like oh karen does the email and if its important she prints it out, HA HA!

I thought the interview segments themselves were surprisingly dull- not only were the topics about stuff we've heard ad nauseum forever, there was almost no humor at all. Chris Isaak is incredibly charismatic as a live performer, but he's kind of a dud in the chat show format. Thank goodness the show was bookended with those live numbers- they wuz hot!

yeah i can see what your saying about the same old same old interviews but i found out some interesting stuff in there as well. its like she adds to the story each time she tells it. HA! i did like when he showed her the BN cover and said it could have sold more copies if she would have switched spots with Lindsey and she kinda had this look on her face and then she said something about how it would have.

How great was that show?? I loved it. Loved it. She was ter typical self. It seemed less edited than other Stevie interviews. I had no idea that she received NO help purchasing those ipods. That's awesome! I like how she described her relationship with Lindsey just before, and in the beginning, of Rumours... He desecription of Christine was great. I feel like I know a lot about Stevie, but I feel like I may have learned even more. What to say about Chris Isaak? Hmmm- I think the set was what threw a lot of it off. There was something, visually, wrong aobut that set. The colors? I don't know, but it didn't provide the perfect background. Maybe it was his talk-show personna that I didn't agree with, but I attribute it to a lac-luster set. I would rate the show 4 stars out of 5. I recorded it, and didn't delete it. So, that means something. :D

Yeah, same topics - but it wasn't as edited. I like that kind of format though because it's like you are sitting in someone's living room and listening to them tell you their life story. I thought the parts about her grandpa were interesting. I thought she was very candid and gave more detail about she and Lindsey joining the Mac - they went down to Tower and bought the records, she walked down Ventura to the laundromat, she bought an apartment alone after they joined the Mac (then he moved in 5 months later haha)...just the details that either get left out or not reported.... eh, anyway, I really like the show too - the set, the format. Just enough talk and just enough music, I think... I will be a regular viewer...

The part about reincarnation? Yeah, I heard it. I agree with it. There are things in my life that I cannot explain otherwise. I have had visions of different lives since I was a child. Years later, I found a psychic who, without any coaching, named those times, who I was, and what I experienced. Coincidence? Maybe. But that is a ****ing lot of coincidence. There are times when I am in the shower that I have falshbacks, of sorts, to a time I was not even born, nor could I have lived through. There is no explaination for that. So, yeah I wonder what goes through her head, but I -on some level, understand where she is coming from.

How could she have known that? He died before I was even born. The things she said that he has seen are things I have done alone. She even stood up, when she talked about him, in a the same way he stood in the only picture I had seen of him... Which was 2 hours away from our psychic meeting in my hometown. I am sorry that Solitary Man was cut from the broadcast, although what we got was good.
Now, I thought I Have Loved and I've Lost was about her first boyfriend Steve or something. This conversation made it seem like it may have been about her music teacher who left for Spain. Wait a minute. She wasn't even 16 years old at the time. The man should be extradited (guess he's about 80 now) and thrown in jail!
Stevie is funny to me because while it's very easy to make her laugh, she does it at silly things, like the talking fish in DR. If you say something wry to her, she won't laugh. She won't even smile. And when she says something wry or dry herself, she is completely deadpan. She doesn't give a "wink wink" smile at all. She looks entirely serious, but says something she knows is amusing. It's an interesting delivery to me.

It's that closet inner-Anglophile in her. I suppose that's what made her get along so well with her Brit counterparts.

I was thinking the same thing while watching this last night...I figured since she and Chris are on the same label and have toured together the interview would have been a bit more *humorous* and more one on one...
I thought about the Sandra Bernard interview from years past - how lively and silly she was...Definitely not the same this time around...she almost seemed annoyed in most places. It was interesting to hear her talk about the early days and how she and Lindsey were kinda on the rocks when joining FM. But I think Stevie was in a bad *moody* (except during the performances, that's when she came to life) maybe the 'change' is wearing her down...
At any rate, I still love her...always will

I found the interview sort of generic, with a few cute parts. My favorite interviews are the candid ones..like Much More Music from 2001. The duets however where out of this world. I have always loved hearing her on Solitary Man.

I was really surprised (in a good way!) about how much I enjoyed this interview. Yes, it was the same old stuff, but she gave us a few little tidbits of new info, more details about some things. The following stuck in my mind:
*We got a new witch quote, but I already forgot it. Was it "I'm not a witch, so just forget it!"?
*Loved that she talked about NOTS - seemingly in a positive light. She knew that each year they choose a different Stevie "era" which was cool. Karen must have told her.
*Noticing that AJ's face seemed to have a brief flash of jealousy when she showed him the BN album & how that made her feel a little bad since he was old & never made it in the music biz & had a rough life.
*Specifying that Rhiannon is NOT a witch & she knew that after she read the books, but that she decided to do the "Welsh Witch" intro at early shows because it sounded cool.
* I'm thinking we got our answer about plastic surgery when she specified she went to one with her "hole in the nose" concern in 1985, rather than an ENT. I highly doubt she never went back to have "a little something" done later.
*Chris telling her the BN album would have sold more copies had her & LB switched places on the cover. She did not look amused, but replied "well, you're probably right."
Oh my I am watching this now and its fantastic. Stevie talking about the night of 1000 stevies's is pretty funny and being a witch and all kinds of good stuff.
"Some 6'4" dude will walk out wearing white lace & chiffon..." She's talking to you, Strandinthewind.
She is still talking about the klonopin and how she gained weight and stuff. She was also taking decrodon shots (sp?)...
She made it sound like that wasn't just in the past. It hit me that she probably neeeded some steroid shots during the SYW tour - it's pretty common for singers, if they have asthma and/or are ill & their voice is shot. Certainly would explain the puffy face & weight gain later in that tour. Why didn't I think of that before? So obvious to me now.
Gosh... Mama is really pimping the DVD like something fierce. She basically said that this DVD is the definitive rock and roll show, captured on film, that youngsters will learn from since they weren't around when Janis Joplin was around.
Yes, I noticed the constant plugs. Good for her, though. There hasn't been much promo, so I say go for it. The comment about it being a definitive R&R show like the Joplin days made me guffaw, but whatever. it's all subjective I suppose.
ha ha she said karen puts the music on the ipods
i thought i heard her say she must have been a doctor or a nurse in another life.
now talking about red river valley and something about AJ Nicks. I kinda missed that part. Playing Red River valley now.
funny thing from before when she said she writes on a typewriter and her journal and how she has no computer and no cell phome. chris then says about how he sent her an email and she was like oh karen does the email and if its important she prints it out, HA HA!
AHA! We knew damn well Karen was filling them with music & not La Nicks!
And yes, Stevie, I'm sure you were a doctor once. You just love blood & guts & puke & ****. Yup. She cracks me up.
See, I thought it was pretty fresh & original, considering it was mostly the same old topics that have been discussed to death. He seemed to catch her off-guard a few times & she just had to spit something out without having much time to think about it & formulate an answer.
Exactly. Although I doubt Tower records was open on New Year's Day back then. :)
Was great to see them perform Red River Valley..anything spontaneous or new from La Nicks is a treasure these days.
That performance was incredible. She hit some amazing notes, seemingly without difficulty. Nice vocal inflections - definitely NOT monotone. Incredible harmonies from Chris - I love the way they sound together. I will be DLing that tune for sure.
Solitary Man w/Chris from the AHI benefit is one of my favorite performances by Stevie ever. Love it. Woulds have loved to see it again, but ITA. What we got was good. Even It's Late, which can bore me, was impressive - she sang the high notes! :blob1:
And no, she said it was about her boyfriend of 3 weeks when she was "15&3/4 years old", NOT her music teacher.

She said it was about a 3 week love affair, not a love affair with her boyfriend of 3 weeks. Although, we'd always been told it was about her first boyfriend (who I guess was Steve) before.
What got me was she was starting to talk about her teacher having left for Spain again (although that subject had been completed) when Chris cut her off. Why'd she revive the topic at that spot? I'm linking the Spain to the love affair and, again, I say: arrest him!
She also said that she put her collection on the ipod and started to describe it as road shows she's been collecting for decades. We need those on our Ipods. Once, because people online praised U2 so much, I bought a whole U2 package from Itunes. It had 400 songs of theirs on it and I downloaded them all at once. That was years ago and I don't think I've listened to 10 of those 400 songs.
But I wish FM would put up an Itunes package of demos and soundboards and such. Wouldn't sell a lot, but it wouldn't cost a lot to make available either.

^ I rewatched & you're right, it was a "3 week long passionate relationship." She seemed to be almost rolling her eyes, as if to say "yeah, right, everything seems passionate at 15." I don't think that the song has anything to do with her teacher though - seemed to me that she was implying that after just those 6 guitar lessons, that she was able to write her first song. Like, "That's all I had were 6 lessons but I learned so fast & I was so innately talented that it's all I needed."
Her mix tapes/CDs she makes for going out on the road? No thanks. Have you seen the list of **** she puts on them?

Stamp that  . It's going to be nothing but a bunch of Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake and Maroon Five. I would rather be deaf than listen to that crap.
Also, does anyone find it peculiar that as much as Stevie reviles the internet and bemoans the tragedy of illegal filesharing, that she has no qualms about filling up iPods with other people's music? I mean, is she actually paying for these songs, or is (Karen) simply transferring the same iTunes playlist a bajillion times to different iPods? Unless she is paying for each and every one of these songs (which I would find hard to believe), isn't she herself contributing to the "death of music?" Or does she somehow think it's okay because they are being given away to wounded heroes? I would love to ask her to explain that!

Oh, no I thought she meant the tapes she makes of her own concerts when she's on the road, not the stuff she listens to on the road. Yeah, I could do without those, although I like Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake and Maroon 5 well enough, so maybe . . .

But don't Apple and DRRM stop you from doing that? It doesn't let you download onto lots of different Ipods. There's a limit to how many Ipods, Iphones, ITouch machines you can authorize, I believe. Unless you get special software for illegal copying . . . In which case Karen and Stevie should be sued.

Well, that's assuming you buy all of your files on iTunes. One could easily buy the CD legitimately, rip it into mp3 files (using iTunes software) and load them onto iPods. These files do not have DRM.

Not quite. You are only allowed to use your iTunes account on (up to) five differenct computers. So, you can authorize use of your iTunes account on your two home computers, work computer, etc. However, I don't believe there is anything stopping you from plugging in a gazillion iPods to one of your authorized computers and putting music on it.

I guess that makes sense, because the one difficulty I have encountered doing that (just adding my music onto a friend's ipod if I don't want to synch his ipod with my library and wipe out everything else he has on his) wouldn't be an issue if you were dealing with new Ipods. They are blank anyway. There's nothing to override or replace. So, if you synch up with an existing library that wouldn't be a problem.
I guess I just didn't think you could do it because I was not trying to synch the other person's ipod. I was trying to put my songs on in addition to the ones he had on his and I couldn't do it.
Someone should ask Stevie about that, if she's paying for the music in addition to the Ipods. She would shoot them a priceless look.

All you need to do is disable the automatic synch option in iTunes. I never synch. I drag my files one-by-one onto my iPod.

Stevie looks and sounds fantastic! Her storytelling on the couch is wonderful and engaging, even if some of the subject matter is things we've heard a thousand times. She has a natural excitement that occurs when she sings songs such as 'It's Late', which further fuels the flames of the type of 'intimate-setting tour' I would love to see her do (as described in my 'Stevie Retirement Alternatives' thread that bombed;)).

It did seem natural like a conversation between her and her friend. My favorite moment was when she said that Karen prints out her emails and Chris got a look on his face and said that some of the emails he sent her were very private, but ok . . . Chris and Kenny are both natural comedians. They could be actors. They had two professional actors on their sitcom with them, but they were as funny as either of them.
