Having just seen Lindseys house article in his forum( and thinking it wasn't for me), I was wondering ,.... if money were no object, and in an ideal world, what kinda house/garden I'd have...this could be fun..so to start here's mine...7900
and I'd have one of these 7901
and one of these..7899
Ideal house? I think I live in it, honestly. The size is perfect, the back and front yards are pretty large, and my neighborhood is pretty suburban-hip with museums, restaurants, and good shops in fairly close proximity. Plus, not too long of a commute from work/friends/parents.
However, my DREAM house would not even be in this state. And it would probably look something like this:

I'm not getting into how realistic such a scenario is. All I know is there's an ocean in my yard.

I would absolutely love just a small modest house in a nice beach community!
I would love to teach at The University of Hawaii, or somewhere in Florida :)

but seriously, I would like a house on a lake or some sort of body of water where I can fish and with a decent amount of space to hit golf balls.

Well, you are heading out into "hobbit" country are you not??? ....I'm sure NZers are open to alternative housing and your ideal wouldn't go amiss :wavey:
After looking at everyone elses back yards, I'm beginning to think my vege patch is quite modest!!!! glad everyone who has replied have great imaginations :blob2:

And a lot of people here think its a cool house and I was about to say that I'd like to live in a normal place like this cause I like the houses in Australia they're much more modern

yeah I can appreciate its beauty but to live in the suburbs here in nice little houses is a great feeling. Its really nice inside but not the kind of place you can live in like you can in houses here cause its filled with historic things that you don't dare break or even touch sometimes because its got lots of noble history. And its so huge and empty on the inside at night and the main room is giant and echoes. But yeah its really pretty, I can hardly complain when some people grow up in slums. I still want to live in the hobbit place though!

TOP THREE IN THIS ORDER:
3 7905
2 7906
1 7907
I hope that you like them as much as I do... There was a house for sale in Phoenix that I wanted, really bad. It was gorgeous, but has since been removed from the site. Guess someone bought it... :( Oh well... Any of these would do!

I love everybody's tastes! This is a house I grew up loving in Raleigh, NC. When I was a kid, it was abandoned, run down, and had windows broken out... it was fantastically spooky!

Here's a group of Mansions in Rhode Island. They are all beautiful! I think it was the Breakers where True Lies was filmed.

....some nice houses..........
My favourite is the very old house I was born in. It's just a few miles outside Oxford, UK and I hope to spend my retirement years in it...........

It is a pretty typical Cotswold village house. It's been empty for a while and I'm looking out for a William Adam, Palladian style mansion in a few acres of beautiful parkland, ideally near Edinburgh........:)..... so if you have one, we could swap!:)

Have you been to it btw? it kind of creeps me out (not that I'd mind if you had) if you google it and see random people that have been in it. There are more impressive ones so I would recomend going to those instead ;)

Are you serious!!! omg I just went red and am so embarassed. See what I mean though about not being able to just run around like in a normal house, like you can't accidentally scratch a wall!
That'ss so weird though, I'm giggling. I feel like being spied on. Please don't tell me you've met my mum!

I was sponsored through Uni by BP and I worked on the Scottish north sea oil rigs during the summer holidays and then on other projects of theirs during other college holidays. BP invested a lot of money into the Scottish Mining Museum and I repaired and installed the winding engine................... I think they still let the public go up and down into the coal mine in it. Your secrets are safe - don't worry.......

lol that's kind of scary in a small world kind of way. I didn't know there were people who would know that area on this message board, I thought everyone was pretty much from America. That's really funny. I know strangers go through the house but to randomly meet up with someone whose been inside on an internet forum when I'm moved on and living in Australia, that's kind of weird to think I might have been talking to someone whose been through it. haha. You are right, I shouldn't have posted the picture!
