Thought it might be nice to start a thread to say how Stevie has influenced our lives and why she means so much to us. I don't have time to write my bit at the minute - but i will!!!!

Hope we get a nice long thread from this!!!

Where can you start on something like this??? There are so many things this woman has done for me through her music and her life that I can strongly relate to. I won't go into specifics, but I will say that I haven't seen anyone else like her. She has this charisma and magic about her.....she's one of those women that you grow up wanting to be like in those fairytales that you heard. She looked like a princess to me when I first saw her when I was little. Her face is one of those that looked like someone from the golden age of Hollywood. Very classic, and very gentle. But it wasn't so much the way she looked that got me hooked, it was her sound. It was different, and the way she expressed her creativeness on stage and off stage. She knows how to take an audience and cradle them in her arms like one of her own children. That's why she didn't want kids in my mind, is because we as an audience and as listeners are her children. She is our teacher, and our mother, and there aren't that many musicians out there that catch my eye and make me listen, but she does.

Welll, as some of you know I only discovered Stevie/the Mac last year, but it's the most intense connection to someone's music I've ever had.

In my life I was at a point were everything was changing for me. I graduated in the summer and I had absolutely no idea what to do with my life at all and I was feeling really sad. A new chapter of my life, so to speak. Then one day, I discovered Stevie and Fleetwood Mac. I watched a couple of her videos on YouTube and it was like a relevation, because I was so touched by that music. The lyrics, the voice, the athmosphere. Everything. I knew there was a connection from the first time I watched Sisters Of The Moon - the one where she is speaking in tongues -.

In a sense she/they gave me a direction in life- which sounds a bit cheesy, I know. But her/they music just motivates me to actually do things and accomplish something. I sometimes feel like she is like a guardian angel to me, and just an inspiration.

Other than that I think Stevie is just so beautiful and has a fantastic style. ♥

My favorite quote:
"I tell people all the time that they should keep a journal, even if it's just, 'I had a terrible day today and I don't want to talk about it, love Stevie,' or 'I dreamt last night...' Even if it's just three sentences because at the end of five or six days, you would have created a habit and you will find that over a month that you have a whole story growing. Whether it's just for your own memories, so you can go back at any age, or if you are a writer or a singer, or some part of the creative business. You can be creative ~ anyone can be creative if they want to ~ you just have to want to."

I was instantly hooked on stevie when I first heard rhiannon, since I was 9 years old back in 1979 and the first album i bough or wanted was Tusk my mom belonged to columbia house for a while so I asked her to get me the album Tusk and have been hooked on Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks since, Everyone back then said oh its just a faze i am going thru with fleetwood mac and stevie nicks i still feel the same way about them as i did when I was 9 years old. I love the music the vocal harmonies fleetwood mac has and also stevie has solo wise with the sharon and Lori and sandy stewart on her solo work as well and the writing of her songs i do get her stevie messages in which help me get thru the rough and bad times they and stevie's music puts me in a better place when I am not feeling so good or upset its like stevie said in the past that her music is like a pain pill which takes you to a place for a moment of happiness and that holds true to me this concert coming up to the mohegan sun will be my 21st concert seeing stevie solo and with fleetwood mac since 1986 since I have been 16 years old I have been going to the concerts now will be hitting 39 years old..ugh.that I can attend too and hope there is more to come after this tour as well. Stevie's music takes me to a special place that holds true in my heart that I am hooked on her so I am a lifetime fan i have been lucky enought to have shaken her hands at 2 shows one a fleetwood mac show and the other a solo concert and never though i would be able to do that and also be at a taped concert dvd soundstage with fleetwood mac was definetly a high light in my life had a memorable night and have a dvd to look at saying I was there is prescious to me. So through thick and thin I will always be there for fleetwood mac and Stevie Nicks.

I will tell you the whole story about how she became my idol. It was in athumn 2007, so she hasn't been my idol for so long, like she has been for many fans...
I was at home and my dad came home after being out in the town, shopping food or something, and he had bought the Fleetwood Mac Greatest Hits album. He said "This is a group called Fleetwood Mac" and he put on Dreams, and I thought it was awesome! Stevie's voice was incredible! I listened to some of Christine's songs too, Little Lies and Everywhere and I very much liked Seven Wonders, by Stevie. I looked at the photo in the booklet and read about them. I don't remember it very well, but I know that I was looking after facts and photos of Stevie Nicks the other day. I was on youtube.com searching after songs and it's how I became a Stevie fan. Like 4 months before I became a fan, Linda Schönnberg gave me a CD to me with different music on it and I thought "Isn't that Fleetwood Mac?" when I, 4 months later, heard some of the tracks, and yeah, it was, now I know that they were from The Dance concert :) I liked Kate Bush back then, in spring 2007 and she also liked her music and she gave me the CD to discover other music like Kate's and she gave me a CD with only Tori Amos songs on it. And I became a huge Tori fan and was a fan the whole summer and bought all her CD's etc...And then, in the authumn, it was Stevie and since then, I have been a Stevie/Mac fan :) I also want to tell you that when I heard Fleetwood Mac, some days later, me and my little sister Maja, dresses up in 80's style with big hair and strange clothes (LOL) and danced and sang to Little Lies and Seven Wonders in my room!!!!! Maja said "I want to be that one with the greates voice!" and I said "No, I want to be her!" Can you guess who we wanted to be??? Haha, Stevie of course! I tured out to be Chriss, she has a good voice to, and Maja was Stevie! That was really fun! No, Maja and my other sister Klara, kind of hate Fleetwood Mac and Stevie...:( And all Maja's friends too!!! The christmas, 2007, I performed Blue Denim, Edge Of 17 and Sorcerer live. It has been a year and a half since I first heard her wonderful voice and she has been a huge inspiration. She was the one who made me write my own songs and my first song was named The Rock'n'Roll Woman and was dedicated to her. She has also been my inspiration when it comes to painting, 'cause the only thing I paint is Stevie portraits, hehe! Now I got almost all the Stevie Nicks/Mac stuff...All Stevie's solo CD's and some in vinyl, all Fleetwood Mac (from 1975) Lp's and CD's. I got lot's of photos and almos all the dvd's. I have spent a lot of money buying their stuff in a year, I think, haha!

Well, that was my story and I hope you enjoyed reading it :)
Stevie is the Queen Of Rock'n'Roll and she will ALWAYS be in my heart, no doubt.

Hello everyone! I am new here but I have been a fan for a while now. I acutally started out just a Fleetwood Mac fan... back when I was 10 or so.. I had some of the Greatest Hits tapes/Cd's and loved almost every song. Then a little over a year ago I began *really* loving Stevie's solo stuff. I don't know why all of a sudden in early 2008 it hit me and she has been my idol ever since!

Well actually it was during that time I heard on tv a split second of a Fleetwood Mac song that I couldn't remember... but I loved that short preview of it. (CD advertisment maybe?) So I got on Utube and searched for it and within a few minutes I found it. It was "Silver Springs" and I'd never really heard it before and I fell in LOVE with it. So happen I watched the one where Stevie and Lindsey are very emotional and share a kiss.. I was taken away by the emotion!! So that video led me to read ALL about the Stevie/Lindsey relationship. (Let me tell you I am a very 'shippy' person when it comes to couples on tv shows and this was the real deal story so it made me that much more into wanting to learn about them personally) So I read everything possible (and still am to this day buying anything I can for my collection) I really loved all I read about Stevie and I watched tons of utube videos of her solo songs and demos so I bought every FM cd and Stevie CD I could get and listened to them every minute I could and learned every song I could. It also made me realize how much she had been through and how she had made it in the Rock and Roll world. She is such a strong woman. The first thing I bought of hers was the Enchanted 3 disc set and I loved every single song I heard! I have never felt that connection and emotion with any singer before. I usually like a few of their songs but not 99% of them! So happen I find that she was going to be in concert 2 hrs away from me in June of 06 so i got tickets and to see her live.. she was just so sweet and talked to the audience like she was an old friend. It was amazing. So I still listen to her and FM everyday and now I have a 'Stevie Room' :) Just listening to her songs puts me in a whole other mood when I am mad or sad. It's really like my therapy that I so desperatly need. (LOL) But anyway I just wanted to share my story too. She and FM will ALWAYS be my favorite!!! I hope there are more concerts to come. I have my tickets for 'Unleashed' and I am ecstatic!!! Thanks for this topic! I love reading everyones story.

Everything. Stevie Nicks means so very very much to me. Those times when I am lost? Her music is my guide. In my darkest hours? Her work is the light that shows me the way. There are no words to describe how indebt I feel to Stevie and THE MAC becuase of what they have done. Their work has influenced my life. Her story has shaped my understanding of what the world could be like because of the decisions that we make. She is strong. She is sexy. She is enchanting- by definition. She will bring you to tears. One day I will be able to tell her how much she means to me. It is virtually impossible for me to say why I think so highly of her. I tried to explain it, I hope that it made sense.

Stevie means so much to me that I could fill 64 pages of reasons why. Instead I will tell you that it was Stevie who inspired me to learn how to play the piano. In 1980 while watching the Fleetwood Mac special on the tv show 20/20 she played Sister's of the Moon on an upright piano in her hotel room to the interviewer. From then on it was my mission to lean how to play piano. In 1982 I took a few lessons to teach me how to read sheet music. Before I could fully read sheet music I would play SOTM with two fingers. Eventually I learned how to use many fingers and both hands to play it and it is the first song I play everytime I sit down at a piano that belongs to someone else, as the first song. On my piano it was always the 1st song I played until last year. Now the first song I play at home is Rooms On Fire.

Stevie reminds me of being a young kid again. I wrote up a small post about this on my blog, it's not that long, if anyone wants to humor me and read it...

Stevie's music means so much because when you are having a bad day you can listen to it and it just makes you feel so much better. I love the fact that Stevie can be so vulnerable yet so strong at the same time. I often wish I could be like that. I love watching her live performances and the emotion she puts into it. She is just one of those people who has that it ya know? She has that thing that just draws people to her. I hope she continues to perform for years. I enjoy her live concerts so much with FM and Solo.

I am about Stevie's age and I relate to the themes of many of her songs and appreciate how she's managed to get through the craziness she took on when she chose this career path. Not many women (or men) have survived and thrived in this business running at her speed for so long! Stevie's behavior over the years has provided numerous examples of how I can be the best I can be with persistence and imagination, how easy it is to fall if I'm not paying attention, and most importantly, how I can get back up after a fall if I really want to. Stevie just put herself out there for all to see - the good, bad, indifferent, and ugly, i.e. her humanity. Through it all she keeps on singing and dancing and moving on, just as we all can do no matter the obstacles or distractions we stumble over on our own journey.

Mines a strange one..

Stevie reminds me of my best friend Ashling, who passed away last year. Let me explain why..

When I became pregnant during college, I had nobody and no-one. The father didnt want anything to do with the child, which I respected, because we were both quite young, and my parents told me that a little money was all I was gonna get from them because they had invested so much time and money into my education and I had stupidly thrown it all away (even though I was still in and remained in college till I got my degree, but nevermind, thats not important). All my friends drifted away from me, mainly because I pushed them, but Ash was the only person who stood by me. She had this wonderful spirit about her. This unique, magical presence that lit up every room. And of course, was a huge Stevie fan. Her name (aislinn is the real spelling) is the Irish Gaelic for Dreams, and when she found this out aged 10, she spent the next 14 years of her life telling everyone about the connection she had with Fleetwood Mac and why she was a massive fan.. It was Ash who got me into FM.

I remember when i was nearly due one day, Ash turned to me and said, "You know about the Robin Anderson, Stevie Nicks relationship, right?" and I said "Of course!" Then she said something that I'll never forget."I'm your Stevie, babe. The second that child is born, I promise I'll do whatevers right by her if anything happens to you. Don't ever forget that."

2 years later, Ash got cervical cancer at the very unfair age of 22. She battled it hard but even with all the Chemo she could muster and 3 operations to try and stop tumours, she was told she had 3 months to live. Needless to mention, those last months were filled with Stevie related things. Me and my daughter moved in with her while she redecorated her home filling it everything mystical, writing lyrics in 3 feet high letteer across the kitchen ceiling, and so on and so forth. She died last July. Landslide was played at her funeral and almost everybody that was close to Ash wrote "Bella Donna" on her mortuary card.

Stevie Nicks, was my comfort when Ash passed. Listening to Bella Donna and TISL especially, gave me huge strength. Whenever I'd hear Stevies voice, I'd imagine Ash running through the sitting room dancing and singing, it was like she never left. There isnt a day that I dont giggle silently to myself about all of Ash's crazy stunts. Stevie is my medium to her. I feel like we're connected whenever I play a Stevie record. I love Stevie so much for this. She'll never know the effect shes had on me (and my little girl's!!!) life.

I know this is an old thread, but this story really tugged at my heart strings. That is sad and unfair what happened to your friend, but am deeply touched at your friendship with her and your connection to Stevie's music.

My story is not as inspiring.. but just fell in love with Rhiannon and Edge of Seventeen on the radio around 1980/1981 and could not get enough of hearing Stevie's unique and beautiful voice and the lyrics just spoke to me in her songs like no song has ever before. And as stated before, Stevie can be so feminine but yet so strong at the same time, great role model for women to still be strong but feminine at the same time. A hard balance to achieve at times but she has done it so eloquently and with class.

I was only 11 years old when Stevie's music got me hooked, but today at 40, still rocking out and dancing around my living room to Stevie and will for years to come. :)

That story also made me really sad. Tears definatly welled up in my eyes.

My story also isn't very inspiring either, but here it is...
It was September of last year. I was stuck in traffic with my dad on the way to his house and Tusk came on the radio. My dad turned the volume way up and since I didn't feel like going deaf I paused my ipod and listened to the song. I really liked the song and my dad kept talking about it and how the USC marching band was on the song. I knew my stepmom had a Fleetwood Mac cd so I decided to put the song on my ipod. It was The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac. I ended up just putting all the songs on and I sat there and listened to them all. I was hooked. There wasn't a song I didn't like. After that I did some research on the band and I came across the Seven Wonders video form 1987. I fell in love with that song and whoever was singing. I thought she sounded amazing and was absolutly beautiful. I found out that that person was none other than Stevie Nicks. I just kept researching who she was and getting her music.

Throughout these months I found a role model in Stevie. She has allowed me to find myself. My real self. The first thing I started was writting in my journal every night. I haven't ever done that. I got really into music that I actually liked and I didn't care. I was always kinda ashamed of the music I listened to because I've never liked the type of music everyone else liked. In the 4th grade I loved Cher and Celine Dion and everyone made fun of me so I forced myself to like what everyone else liked. Eventually I just gave up music. Now I don't care what people think. You ask me who my favorite singer is I will tell you it is Stevie Nicks. She also got me back into my art. when I found out she drew and painted I just started back up again and she is my inspiration when it comes to my sketches. I got a keyboard and I'm learning how to play it.It's something I always wanted to do. I started wearing the clothes that I like. She taught me to embrace who I really am and I don't have to change for anyone.

Her music also got me through the ton of stress I have been feeling this year as a senior in high school. All the college stuff and constant homework kept me stressed pretty much all day everyday. Just going home and listening to her music just made me feel so much better. She has gotton me through so many hard times this year because she is always there if no one else is.
She is such a strong, unique, beautiful woman and I've never found anyone like her. There is no one like her. That is why she is my role model and I don't care what anyone says. I will forever dance around my room like a complete idiot to her music and I don't care. :)

There are such beautiful stories here, i love it !
Why she means so much...
I could write a lot here, but i think it's more about me than Stevie. She came in a moment of my life when i had noone to love, being a lonely person. And because of that, I've always related to a lot of idols, there weren't any time of my life when i wasn't a fan. I simply need it. Then, I found out that Stevie is "my match" :D. I'll never stop to love her, because, believe it or not, it's something so intense, that for once in my life, i almost think that destiny has something to do with all of this. (c'mon, Fleetwood Mac hasn't come in France since 1977 or so, and the exact year i become fan, they visit us ! DES-TI-NY )

What I really admire about Stevie is her individuality, and how she has stayed true to her image over the past decades. Even in the 70’s when she was criticized for being too ‘airy fairy’ as a songwriter, and in the 80’s for not being not fashionably hip (like Pat Benatar with her spandex and headbands - LOL), Stevie has continued writing music in her inimitable style and wearing what she damned well pleased! That she is generally held in higher esteem today than many of her female peers, and that she has been recognized as a fashion icon are testaments to her mojo!

On a more personal level, being gay, I’ve gotten inspiration from Stevie as she has not been afraid to be who she is. She inspires me to be true to my own self, and to look at the world – one that isn’t always easy to get by in especially in these depressing times – with more optimism and hope through her sense of the romantic. Certainly I’ve had hang-ups about being who I am, but one thing I’ve gotten from Stevie’s music is to ‘just chill’ – it’s never as bad as it seems (as she sings in ‘Think About It’).

Probably my favorite Stevie song is ‘Nightbird’. The lyrics and eerie atmosphere of it are just ‘so Stevie’ (with thanks also to Sandy Stewart of course for the excellent music). Yep, it is a sad song (written for her late friend Robin) but there parts that are hopeful. To me, ‘And when I call, will you walk gently through my shadow...’ has always been about having that someone who is willing to be ‘one’ with you through thick and thin. And as the song fades out, there’s the comforting line ‘Don’t be afraid…’ All in all, ‘Nightbird’ (at least how I interpret it) is about going through a difficult time but still managing to get through it, whether it’s by drawing strength from within yourself or by reaching out to another person.

Anyways, so that’s why I love our Stevie!
