Stevie is featured for the Q&A in the March 5th issue of Rolling Stone (Taylor Swift cover) on Page 28. No new photo, though they used that really nice recent one of her in the black buttonup jacket and white hat. The featured quote from her is: "Little girls think it's necessary to put all their business on MySpace and Facebook.....I'm all about mystery."
The magazine also claims on Page 10 that Austin Scaggs (the interviewer) wrote a piece for the online Smoking Section regarding more details of the interview, but I'm not seeing it posted there yet:

BOLD WORDS, Ms. Nicks- BOLD WORDS. My friend keeps saying to me, "What kind of trouble would Stevie be in if she were living in today's world? With internet, phone cameras, and sneaky photographers???" I have no answer for that. She may have been in all kinds of craziness... Who knows? Anyway... is the Q&A featured on their website?

In today's world there would be no Stevie Nicks as she was in her glory years. She is of a time when you could still have some mystery and her mystique depended on that .She arrived near the end of that time .Imagine if the likes of Greta Garbo tried to be a film star today with the image she had in the 1920 and 1930s ..it would never work.

No no- I mean, if they had all of the technologies then, as they do now... She would have all sorts of trouble. She would be the Amy Winehouse of that generation. Her business would be EVERYWHERE...

I knew exactly what you meant..That is why I said there would be no mysterious Stevie Nicks today as she had been back in the day..It would be too easy for all her business to be spilled in the mass media like it is now.We fans did have a very good inkling then that she was very hedonistic ..it just did not come out in the media at least until she went into Betty Ford but that was late 1986.Also I believe at least the late 1970 were still a more innocent time .If La Nicks turned up today with her witchy image she'd be harder pressed to have the type of career she had then IMHO.As for Winehouse she went off the deep end after one hit album. it took La Nicks over a decade to get near that point.

I have to agree with you about the 1970s being a more innocent time. We've gone from a culture that truly idolized celebrities (then) to a culture that tries to scandalize and mock celebrities (now). If a young Stevie appeared on the scene today wearing lace doilies, curtain sheers, legwarmers and platform boots (or anything that wasn't trendy or hip) she would be ridiculed savagely instead of being held up as a fashion icon. It was easier to suspend reality back in the day, when it was still cool for rock stars to wear spandex, capes and goofy hats- it was theatrical, kitschy and fun. Now everyone takes themselves so seriously for fear that they would be mocked or, heaven forbid, accused of being gay or, at the very least, irrelevant.

The word, "irrelevant" is used a lot when people talk about Stevie or Fleetwood Mac (In the circles in which I travel.) I don't understand that. I just don't. Honestly, I feel as though FM & SN are legends and once you are a legend then you will always be relevant. Mainly, because you are inspiring so many new people. Your music lives on- you live on. When I saw the trailer for Stevie's soundstage package I felt as though she couldn't be more relevant. Are they irrelevant?
More so- leg warmers are coming back, as is spandex, from what I am told.
I look at musicians like Tori Amos, who is insane, and Ani Difranco, who is a different breed all together and I think, "They may not be huge on the charts, but they are making music that means something-that speaks to people." That is our FM... That is our Stevie Nicks.
In my opinion, Stevie could come back today, as she did in early '75, and be accepted. If we remember it was before all the chiffon... (Reference Largo '75) So maybe she could make it. Not likely, but maybe. I think her performance skills and Lindsey's musical talents would make it- somehow.
I definitely feel they would have more staying power and success than say James Blunt. I would definitely perfer Buckingham Nicks to John Mayer!

I think Stevie voluntarily placed herself out of "relevance" back in the early 90's. I think the jumping off point for her was recording "Sometimes it's a Bitch," which she supposedly recorded under protest due to record label pressure. Ever since then I think she basically decided to do her own thing at her own pace, regardless of whatever was going on around her. Accordingly her productivity fell off a cliff! Sure, her recording sessions with Rodney Jerkins and Dallas Austin may have hinted at a whiff or two of desperation, but ultimately she has elected to stay out of the mainstream, which I think half of her fanbase applauds and half of her fanbase derides. On the one hand, it means that Stevie maintains everything about her "Stevie-ness" that makes her unique. On the other hand, it means that she is considered as something of a relic who lives in the past ala Baby Jane Hudson. Yet the notion that she is considered to be so out-of-touch makes her that much more interesting to the hipster set in a very ironic way. I guess when you have been around as long as Stevie has, and when you are as unique as Stevie, you are bound to inspire a broad spectrum of opinions.

I believe it's much more important to be unique and able to touch people deep in their soules than to be on the top of the charts. Number 1s are just songs everybody's listening to. I think Stevie would always do it no matter what happens around here, she would always find people she's not "irrelevant" for. And I wish it was possible to be more witchy and mystical today...Such people are much more facinating than the ones about you can find everything on the internet.

Q&A: Fleetwood Mac's singer on their new tour, turning 60 and making mixtapes
By Austin Scaggs
"It still gives me goose bumps, and it still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up," says Stevie Nicks, who is eagerly anticipating the first Fleetwood Mac tour in five years, which kicks off on March 1st in Pittsburgh. And later in the month, Nicks is releasing a DVD, Live in Chicago, and a concert CD, The Soundstage Sessions. With her dog barking in the background, Nicks checks in from her home in Los Angeles: "We still feel like Fleetwood Mac have a lot to give to the world. In this time of trouble and turmoil, I think the world needs Fleetwood Mac."
What's the latest from the Mac rehearsals?
I don't want to give the set list away, but it's pretty exciting. The fact that we haven't been on tour since 2004 makes every song sound fresh. It's just bang, bang, bang- all fantastic songs. We always start with the staples: "Go Your Own Way," "Gold Dust Woman," "Rhiannon" and "Dreams." We will play one song we've never done at all. If I were going to see Fleetwood Mac, this is definitely the set I'd want to see. It's like a big steam locomotive that doesn't stop until we walk offstage.
How are you getting along with Lindsey Buckingham?
When Lindsey and I aren't getting along, nobody's getting along. We haven't had one disagreement since we started rehearsing. And instead of treating me like his miserable old ex, he's treating me like his difficult but beloved older daughter. He's been very sweet.
How often do you speak with Christine McVie?
We check in with each other, but we can't hang out, because she lives in England, and she won't fly. The only time I've seen Chris since 1998 was when we did three nights in London in 2003. I miss her every day. But we've all finally started to accept that nothing could make Chris go back out on the road.
Last May you turned 60. How do you feel about that?
I don't feel any different at 60 than I felt at 50. Age is a state of mind. You can either get old or not get old.
On the "Live in Chicago" DVD you're joined by Vanessa Carlton on a couple of songs. What other artists of her generation do you mentor?
I love Vanessa - I feel like she's an adopted child, in a way. And Michelle Branch and I had dinner the night before last. I have a lot of information for all of these women. I should do a "Dear Stevie" column in Rolling Stone. When Mariah Carey was going through her craziness a few years ago, I wrote her a long letter telling her how everybody else is crazy - not her. I saw her recently, and she told me she keeps the letter with her jewelry! I love that.
What's wrong with the record business today?
The internet has destroyed it. I miss buying an album and lying on the floor for three days and going over it with a magnifying glass. I still go to the record store and spend hours there and buy a big bag of CDs. I don't have a computer of a cellphone, because I don't want to be that available to anybody. I'm all about mystery. Little girls think it's necessary to put all their business on MySpace and Faceboo, and I think it's a shame.
You've always made mix-tapes on cassette. Do you still do that?
That's how I do it. Cassettes sound so much better. And I'm deaf as a doornail, so I like to crank my little boombox.
What songs are worthy of a Stevie Nicks mixtape?
I was just in Hawaii, and I made a mix called "Lahaina Twilight." It's got songs by the Goo Goo Dolls, Jackson Browne, Sting, Coldplay, Tom Petty, the Fray, Snow Patrol.
What albums do you love in their entirety?
I don't, usually. In the beginning, I was inspired by songwriters like Jackson Browne, David Crosby, the Eagles, Neil Young, Buffalo Springfiled - those are the people I learned from. And I probably listed to Joni Mitchell's For the Roses, Blue and Court and Spark a hundred million times. But now, I can't listen to a whole album unless it's a Fleetwood Mac record, where I made sure that every song is spectacular. Sequencing is my forte. I sequenced Rumours. Lindsey doesn't like to admit it, but he will admit it.
Last year, Sheryl Crow claimed that she would be part of the 2009 Fleetwood Mac tour, but Buckingham later denied it. What really happened?
It was absolutely discussed and she was absolutely invited to join. The reason was because I missed Christine [McVie] so much, and I wanted another woman in the band - it's hard to be in the boys' club. I explained to Sheryl what it was like to be in the group - that it's all-encompassing. Like, on 2003's Say You Will tour, we went out expecting to do 40 shows, and it turned into 135 shows. So Sheryl called me and said, "I'll have to pass." As Stevie Nicks, I was disappointed. As her friend, I told her she made the right decision. Sheryl Crow passed on Fleetwood Mac - I want that out there.
What are the origins of your patented onstage twirl?
A lot of ballet and a lot of dance. I wanted to be a ballerina, but I realized I was not going to be Pavlova, so I became a rock singer instead.

Oh, my goodness! She's still priceless. His beloved, but difficult older daughter. I am going to have that framed.
I can't believe they haven't had one fight since rehearsals started. They must not have been rehearsing very long.
So, why do we hear she does (limited) things with computers if she says she doesn't have one? Oh, maybe she doesn't personally have one, but Karen has 12.
Thanks for posting this. It is magical.

When Mariah Carey was going through her craziness a few years ago, I wrote her a long letter telling her how everybody else is crazy - not her.
 Mariah WAS crazy. It's not like it was made up in the press - she cracked, admitted it, got help & got better.

So true.. I always think she comes off a bit shallow when it comes to Christine. She makes a point to say how much she misses her, but in fact does not do anything about it.
I am sure that on some level they do have a special bond together. They went through things together that I am sure no one knows about.

I find it interesting the heavy emphasis she's placing on the setlist and not wanting to "give it away". Personally, after the ugly Vegas episode in 05, I don't believe a word she says but it's still interesting to me that's she's making such a point to tell everyone the reason to see this show is because of the fabulous set list. I also wonder why they can't do more than just one song that they've never done before. Is that rule in the Rock and Roll handbook or something?

I think "ugly Vegas incident" may be overstating it but basically, before the tour, Stevie was speaking about how she and Waddy had gone back over all her old material and were digging out some big surprises for the Vegas shows. There was a lot of speculation on what never performed songs from the Nicks archive were going to make the setlist but, if I recall correctly, the big surprises were If Anyone Falls and Beauty And The Beast, songs she had performed on many solo tours before.
But anyway, that's why people here are cynical when Stevie or the band make big promises of new or never-before-performed material.

I Bolded the important words. She said something to the effect of we MAY open with talk to me" and "we're looking back and MAY bring out some of the "old outfits". So, when she didn't open with talk to me or sing i cant wait, or wear that white fringgy thing from the gypsy video people were disappointed. ( She DID for soundstage come through with afew "Surprises" though, IE "SARA" and the FULL-ON cream-booted scarf-and-tophat Rhiannon.) AND my other complaint about people not being satisfied was that If anyone falls and Beauty and the beast may have been done on one or two tours waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay Back-In-The-Day, but in 0'5, it was a surprise that they had dusted them off and brought them back. Same with How still My love, which was also Resurrected from back-in-the-80's-tours-of -the-past obscurity and brought back into the set for the vegas shows. So, there were afew "TREATS", but because she didnt do i cant wait or talk to me or wear sea-foam green, people complained. (In between gushing about how Beauty and the beast "gave them chills". ALSO, As i recall, MOST of the people who actually WENT to a Vegas show LOVED IT, it was only some who were here waiting for an update who gave the "eh" response.

Well, I agree those initial Vegas shows were fantastic. Certainly she was more inventive with the set for those shows, bringing back those few songs, than she has been since.

Dear Busty,
No, I would not.
Love,
Stevie
Ok. But what about album covers? Is it ok if I lose my top for just a one-off cover?

Dear Busty,
Yes - a one-off cover is acceptable, but you have to promise to bitch about it in interviews for the next 40 years.
Love,

I love this, "In this time of trouble and turmoil, I think the world needs Fleetwood Mac." She's really selling it.
Yeah. Listening to Mac while you're in line at the unemployment office probably makes it all better.
How dare you forget How Still My Love, Sharon.
For the record, most of us who went were actually pretty satisfied - seeing her in such an intimate venue was great, and B&tB alone was worth it for me. BUT, lots of people felt she made promises she didn't keep & I could see why they were disappointed. Lesson learned the hard way - take everything the woman says with a grain of salt.

I was debating whether or not to start a new thread for this, but I assume it's part of the same RS article:
Stevie Nicks wrote Mariah during ‘craziness’
The first Fleetwood Mac tour in five years begins March 1 in Pittsburgh, and Stevie Nicks wants everyone to know that Sheryl Crow passed up the opportunity to join.
“I explained to Sheryl what it was like to be in the group — that it’s all-encompassing. Like on 2003’s Say You Will tour, we went out expecting to do 40 shows, and it turned in to 135 shows,” Nicks told Rolling Stone. “So Sheryl called me and said, ‘I’ll have to pass.’ As Stevie Nicks, I was disappointed. As her friend, I told her she made the right decision.”
Nicks, who turned 60 last year, is a friend and inspiration to other younger musicians, including Vanessa Carlton, Michelle Branch and Mariah Carey.
“When Mariah Carey was going through all her craziness a few years ago, I wrote her a long letter telling her how everybody else is crazy — not her,” she told Rolling Stone. “I saw her recently, and she told me she keeps the letter with her jewelry! I love that.”

She also wrote or called Sharon Osbourne after Ozzy Osbourne was injured a few years ago. Sharon had a talk show and mentioned it.

Before the 2005 Vegas shows she also mentioned she would perform The Highway Man live. Never happened. She also promised a completely different setlist. Never happened. I was at the first show and yes she was great, but besides the screen behind her with photos and flying birds and such, it was the same ole same ole. Anything to sell tickets I guess...

I think many of the "celebs" today court the attention.

There had to be more to the Crowe thing. She is making too much of a point to say they Crowe made the decision. I have a feeling that Linds had more to say on the matter then we know.
She has said that she wanted another female to bring some balance and to have a "mediator" there but she and Stevie are such good friends that I can't see how Crowe could mediate betwenn Stevie and Linds and be impartial.
If I were Linds there is no way I would agree to her being in the band.

Well, as mentioned above, the way Sheryl announced her collaboration with the band also had a lot to do with why she got the boot. Stevie is just trying to help her friend save face, which I can understand, since Lindsey ran around saying unsavory things, in a manner that was uncalled for.
I didn't want her in the band (though having her as an opening act would have been fine). And I never want Lindsey distressed about anything, but he just got entirely carried away with himself. He's a menace. I can see why Stevie decided to put her own version of events out there. It was the gracious thing to do. However, the Mother's Day story is rather stupid. I don't believe those people called Sheryl to rehearse one single thing in May 2008. Michele

Agreed. She promised to bust out the old clothes etc. And BATB from those shows was the best I've ever seen live. Also that nice little four part harmony at the end of If Anyone Falls made up for the great parts of that song that she didn't sing. And the band did the best job of playing that song since The Wild Heart Tour. Thanks to Waddy it was very true to the original version. I was delighted to hear it in '90 but didn't care for the sax.

Thanks for posting, can't wait to buy that magazine! And as you said, if Stevie would be like celebs are today, there would be no Stevie Nicks. She is and will always be that gypsy queen of horses and laces, you know...and legwarmers, hehe! I wear legwarmers often and I love it!
