LEGENDARY US hit maker Stevie Nicks has had her first taste of success as a racehorse owner.

Nicks part-owns a thoroughbred with leading promoter Andrew McManus (both right), his wife Jacqueline and business partner Patrick Prendergast.

The speedy four-year-old gelding, called Illume, won his first race at Wyong in New South Wales on Thursday.

Illume was bought as a yearling for $240,000 in 2005, and has had just four starts.

Originally trained by Gai Waterhouse, the horse had to be spelled for 18 months after contracting equine influenza during the outbreak that closed racing in Sydney in 2007.

Now trained by John Hawkes, Illume started a short-priced favourite when it saluted in the 1000m maiden handicap at Wyong.

McManus said he called the famed Fleetwood Mac singer after the race.

``She is pumped. She is wrapped,'' he said. ``She is getting a photo done and has been watching a replay of the race on the internet.''

Nicks was bitten by the racing bug when she was a guest of McManus's at the Melbourne Cup in 2005.

Yay, congrats go out to Stevie, Illume, and the jockey!

watching the replay over the internet?... um, we are talking Stevie here, that sounds so funny to me.

Maybe Stevie has been fooling us all these years about being internet and computer phobic.

Congrats to the team! That's so exciting. I know nothing about horse racing... does this mean they won some money - a "purse" or something? Wonder what the photo she's getting done will be and if it's something her fans will be able to see also.

I never believed Stevie was 100% computer phobic, though I don't see her using Google or leaving MySpace messages. More like somebody tells her she can find something she's interested in on the internet and Karen cranks up the computer, finds the item and hails Stevie into the office to look at it. So aristocratic.

Karen probably found it and was like "here Stevie watch your horse win..." :D

I love horseracing! How cool that Stevie owns a racehorse and better yet that it's a winner! That doesnt usually happen!

Off to see if there is any mention of this on the racing message boards!

Here is an older race by this horse. Not a winning effort.

I think that it is funny that people think that she cannot operate a PC. Come on people even a 5 year old can master the internet. Give her some credit.

Computer phobic . . . that's a cute term for some reason. Of course she goes onto Google (and Photobucket and Snapfish and - esp - YouTube) and leaves msgs. on MySpace (and Facebook) Come on . . .

My mom is an educated and intelligent woman who has no idea how to use the internet. Some people honestly just don't care about it.

With regard to Sheryl Crow, she did once mentioned that she "emailed her." So we know she knows how to email, okay?! ;)

Yeah, she goes through and rates all her videos, lol. I bet Lindsey reads those things. I doubt very seriously that he doesn't obsess over them. That is why I like Lindsey. He wants to know what the real people think, and what they expect. I bet Stevie has someone report to her about what goes on her... By the way... back on topic, Way to go, ILLUME!!!!

Some of the original lyrics to Illume:

"I'm alone now...with my horse...how we could race it...how we could win it...

Considering that Stevie told us of several horses who have tried to kill her, it's a bit surprising that she's now the proud owner of one.

Snapfish? What's that? Never heard of that one. I'm on Myspace and Facebook, but I've never heard of that. My kid seems more computer literate than me, lol... but kids are amazing on those things anyway.
